We started with the smoked trout dip, which came with crisp, refreshing slices of watermelon radish and saltine crackers for dipping. The tuna crispy rice was also a big hit among the group and disappeared quickly! My partner absolutely loved the crab cakes and said they had a fantastic sear while being absolutely jam-packed with crab. I especially appreciated that they weren't overwhelmed with breading, which can sometimes be the case with crab cakes. Since seafood isn't really my thing, I went with the Caesar salad and was very happy with my choice! It came with a generous amount of Parmesan cheese sprinkled throughout, and I added crispy chicken, which made it a much heartier meal. The portion was also surprisingly substantial for a salad! And of course, we had to finish with their notable lemon meringue pie. We split one slice four ways, and even with that, there was enough for everyone to get a good taste. It was incredibly smooth, creamy, and decadent with that perfect lemony flavor. Overall, Buck & Rider seemed like a lovely place with a great atmosphere and plenty of options for both seafood lovers and those of us who aren't as into seafood. There were so many parties getting cocktails around us. We were offered the water options of bottled sparkling, bottled still, and house filtered and even the option of a dark napkin cloth or their standard white napkin cloth. The person next to us was eating the Collosal Shrimp Cocktail and the shrimps looked HUUUUGE so we had to get it. They charge $13 per shrimp so we ordered 2 each for a total of 4, the Pacific Yellowtail Hamachi, the Wood Fired Spanish Octopus, Loaded Baked Potato, and the Cookies and Cream Cake for dessert. We were served the chilled and raw seafood dishes before the cooked and baked dishes which is the best way to enjoy your meal (light to heavy). First up was the Collosal Shrimp and they were MASSIVE!!! I included a photo with my index finger for size reference. They came with cocktail sauce, spicy mustard, and "atomic" horseradish. My preference was mixing the horseradish with the cocktail sauce. Both my boyfriend and I were highly impressed by the Collosal Shrimp, 10/10. The Pacific Yellowtail Hamachi came up next and this was also another favorite of the night. The yellowtail slices were large and they actually wrapped around thin slices of heart of palm (artichokes) and topped with something crunchy which gave it a nice contrasting texture against the soft and smooth yellowtail. I really loved the added ponzu and wished there was more of it, 10/10. Next up was the Wood Fired Spanish Octopus which was cooked to perfection, it was soft and did not have a chewy/rubbery texture. It came with fingerling potatoes, roasted tomatoes, and chopped up bacon bits in the creamy sauce. But the creamy sauce it came in lacked citrus to brighten up the dish. We actually asked for a lemon to squeeze over it. I think I've come to the conclusion that I don't like creamy sauces with my seafood since I didn't enjoy the spicy mustard with the Collosal Shrimp and also the creamy sauce with the Octopus. I give it 7/10 but my boyfriend gives it 8/10. Lastly for the savory dishes came the Loaded Baked Potato. It came pre-built with butter, cheese, thick cut bacon, chives, and a side of sour cream. I liked the sour cream so much that I asked for more, and the bar back dropped everything he was doing to go grab me some. The service here is UNMATCHED, I've never had a request fulfilled so quickly!! We wrapped up our dinner with the Lou Lou's Cookies and Cream Cake which was also massive. It was like a bougie ice cream sandwich with beautiful peaks of cream which I had assumed was a not-so-sticky and not-too-sweet marshmellow. We were so full though we took half of it home. My boyfriend and I both agreed that this time the entire experience (and our food selection) was way better!! He provided exceptional service throughout. I also appreciated the manager's stopping by to make sure that everything was perfect, and it was. Our evening started with a nice card wishing us a happy anniversary. I thought that was a really nice touch. It looked even better surrounded by a glass of wine and Norwegian Crab Legs. They added a pan of their signature rolls to complete our delicious appetizer. For our main course, we had a petite filet, perfectly cooked to medium rare, two lobster tails, a crab cake add-on, mashed potato and roasted brussel sprouts. Truly a meal fit for a king. I did not appreciate this. CLAM CHOWDER- creamy and more on the fluid consistency, being made with fresh clams makes the difference. Not the best chowder i've had, but was pretty decent. The fish variety can vary with seasons, but it is nice to get different choices throughout the year. There are limited offerings here compared to the bigger location across town, as far as menu and fish selection. We received a phone call 2 days later, which I thought was a nice touch. We frequent Mastro's, Maple & Ash, Fleming's, and Steak 44. Food wise I put it in my Top 3. Unfortunately. I would put waiter service at the bottom. If you are going for food alone it's a great choice. If it's for service. I would suggest Mastro's or Maple & Ash. They are the best!

Went in December for girlfriends birthday and holiday brunch, great service, food and drinks. Dj was fair! But was excited to bring my Dad for his birthday today. What a huge disappointment! We were seated appropriately for our reservation and server introduced herself and Fresh beignets came to table. She proceeded to pour the espresso martini to welcome us. And started pouring the alcoholic drink to my 13 year son! Yikes, he looks 14 at best. We stopped her and stated these twin boys are only 13. Gezz, are you not looking, and if in question, you don't card! What if the adults were in the bathroom and you never explained what you were pouring. Horrible and puts a company liable for a lawsuit serving underage children who never asked for anything. After that she left and never appeared for 25 minutes. We were sitting there, not addressed, and asked if we wanted to order any beverages. As the espresso martini just comes complimentary but never saw here again for 25 minutes! Then we just ordered everything at one time. Online, I reviewed the menu which was the same as I remembered from December. Then we get there the menu has changed! No bacon on the menu! The chicken and Waffles plate gone. It can only be ordered as a tower for $90! But the previous just waffle tower was $25 in December. So I asked is there a way we could still order just the chicken and waffle plate that the four of us wanted at the table as the waffle tower may be too much. She agreed! So low and behold, four waffle towers come out. Requested to send back two as this was ridiculous. The chicken was horrible! Idk who's idea was to change from delicious chicken breast they had before but TODAY! TODAY this was big, heavily breaded chicken drums and bone in thighs - cheap meat for a $90.00 tower. And best of all my chicken was jumping with BLOOD! Raw chicken. Disgusting! Flavor profile all wrong. Batter so heavy my plate was filled with big goopy batter. Then when I initially tried to eat my chicken before I realized it was raw - batter all came off, and the under skin was like rubber. It's horrible for a place of this caliber! So next you get the potatoes, beignets, seasonal scones, and filet mignon slices. Well potatoes were just boiled and flavorless. Not like before. And the steak was so raw blood was floating at the top of the cast iron service plate. Had to send that back too and now ask for well done. Then I ordered the second Understood the Assignment cocktail. Well, my second drink was a different color, no flavor, not consistent of the first drink. Send back! Also, they brought out the Happy F Birthday to my Dad after initially sitting there for 25 minutes with no service or drinks. He got nothing special no candle in a dessert, no special cocktail NOTHING! I have been for dinner and I think that is their sweet spot. I was horribly disappointed in my food, service, and drinks today. The part of the server to pour an alcoholic drink without asking for age verification blows my mind! You guys have a lawsuit waiting to happen with practices like that! Me spending over $900 for a total of 6 people for brunch ya'll should have blown my mind with a wonderful experience. Also the DJ's music is not clean, it was filled with cursing, The N word, also songs about being eaten out explicitly! Music should have been clean versions. Horrible DJ its not a night club. Oh Maple & Ash, how it pains me to have to leave a mediocre review! I had been dying to dine at Maple & Ash for 4 years now - since the Chicago location opened. I missed my opportunity during my last visit to the Windy City so imagine my excitement when I learned a new location was opening a mere 2 miles from my home! A celebratory occasion arose this past week and I knew I would finally be able to experience Maple & Ash. I visited during Golden Hour this past Thursday and had no complaints. Appetizers and cocktails were great, bar crowd was friendly. I then made reservations for my friend and I to have dinner Saturday at 9:00pm. My second (and considerably more expensive visit) unfortunately had more misses than hits. We were quite disappointed in both the service and food. Upon being seated, we waited close to 10 minutes before receiving waters and menus. Bar drinks took 15 minutes + to arrive (we were told the bar was "very backed up"). Water glasses also went empty and took a while to be refilled. Our candle burnt out while we were dining and we had to flag someone down to get a new one . I have worked in the restaurant industry before so I get it, they are busy. However, they have a very large staff and when guests are spending the kind of money you spend here, I expect a higher level of service. We ordered the shrimp cocktail as our appetizer. This is something we always order as a starter and again - disappointed because they shrimp were not very cold and by the time we got to the last one, it was room temperature. On to our main course: we each ordered a steak as well as the "pillows of love" and the Yukon gold gratin for our sides. We added the beefed up butter to our steaks for some additional flavor. While the sides were nicely seasoned and flavorful, the steaks were actually quite bland even with the addition of the butter. This was certainly not the worst dining experience I have ever had, but was it worth $300? Probably not. Perhaps management and staff should visit their competitor down on 44th Street and Camelback where waters are constantly full, food & drinks arrive in a timely manner, and steaks are seasoned to perfection! This won't be my go-to spot for a high-end dining experience. I'll stick to the cocktails and apps in the bar. I really wanted to love it, but they Maple & Ash just didn't live up to the hype. read more

I have never made a review before but I have to after my humiliating experience at the Scottsdale Maple & Ash on September 18! We have dined there before about 6 times and the first 5 were fine. The 6th time in June my wife had to return the lamb because it was undercooked (raw) and there was a problem with my swordfish that had to be returned. A manager came by to ask how our meals was so we told her and to give them credit they comped the entire meal. So now it is a few months later we turn up for our reservation, my wife was checking in when a guy who never identified himself by name or a manager told me I could not be admitted because I didn't meet their dress code! I told him that I was wearing the same thing I always wear (shorts, sport shirt and sandals) and he said that open toed shoes were no longer allowed for men (sexual discrimination??). They didn't have a problem with my wife's open toed shoes or other ladies but just with me! He actually told me to go over to Nordstrom's and buy a pair of shoes (maybe next time if I ever go I'll wear my old oily steel toed work boots since they are not open toed). Well we were flabbergasted, humiliated and embarrassed. I'm in my 70's have worked/lived all over the US and the world and have never been refused admittance to anywhere. We were so shocked that we just walked out and didn't think to ask for a manager or GM. All this guy had to say was that they changed the dress code but since you've dined here many time I'll let you in but next time don't wear sandals. The next day I tried to call and talk to the GM on their local phone number and got a guy in Chicago who took a message for the GM to call me. When I ask for the name of the GM he said he didn't know so what does that tell you. Now it is a week later and I have yet to get a call from anyone and don't expect I will. So the long and the short is just like many other restaurants they start off great then fizzle out and their customer service/appreciation is very lacking! I'll even be surprised if they read this!! Anyway we have crossed them off our list and will go to the other great restaurants that Scottsdale has to offer where we are known by both the managers and staff who bend over backwards to accommodate our requests, give us our favorite tables and appreciate our business. I would be remiss if I didn't commend Sarah and Daniel Hernandez, the remarkable individuals who made my experience at Maple and Ash truly memorable. Whether it was the succulent, perfectly cooked steaks or the innovative and imaginative vegetarian options, every plate delivered an explosion of flavors. Quite like some other reviewers, it just needs to be said... the food stands alone because we were hurried through our entire meal. We were asked about what entrees we ordered before we even got our first round of drinks. The food is too good to push people out the door. This isnt chili's, right? Why are you table turning us? We were a party of 4 who made reservations for 5:15pm. We made them super early for a reason. We intend to dine and dine WELL for several hours but it became a battle to shut down our server from trying to push us along in our meal. We lost the battle because ultimately, we felt disgustingly unwelcome. We would have likely spent double the money there but we were so uncomfortable we just wanted to leave. Menus were grabbed from my hands, plates removed in haste, our arrival complimentary drinks were taken from us before we were done. The bread was removed before we ate it all. Lastly, I clearly communicated our desire to chill out and savor the dining experience but this was ignored. In the end, it just came across like the a pretentious, nasty experience and although the food is good, the service is wildly awful and we will be letting everyone know this is not a restaurant worth trying on THAT basis alone. Behold, near the end of our meal, I ordered an cognac, neat and they were setting up a large party next to us... obviously, it would appear they just needed our table. I typically don't write negative reviews, but my dining experience was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share it in hopes of helping others avoid a similar situation. I went to this restaurant for a business meal with a party of six. We ordered a wide variety of appetizers, sides, and cocktails, both at the bar and during the meal. Three of us ordered individual salads, and we also ordered a tomahawk steak to share. When the steak arrived, it was beautifully presented, and each of us took two slices. However, after taking a bite, we all immediately noticed that the steak was overcooked. We alerted our server, who took the steak back to the kitchen. Shortly after, the manager, Andrew, came out and claimed that since the steak was "half-eaten," the best he could offer was a different cut of steak. We tried to explain the situation, but he insisted that we were lying and accused us of eating half the steak before sending it back. We pointed out that there were uneaten slices still on our plates, but he refused to listen. It was baffling and upsetting. Our entire party felt insulted by the manager's accusation. We frequent fine dining restaurants and have never experienced anything like this before. The manager stood firm in his refusal to understand, and it completely ruined the experience. The servers, visibly uncomfortable, mentioned that Andrew was new to the restaurant and that they had never witnessed anything like this before. We were seated within minutes of our reservation time, greeted promptly with water, and made to feel welcome right away. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, answered all of our questions, and gave thoughtful recommendations based on our preferences. We started with several appetizers, including the carpaccio, Japanese milk bread, dumplings, and hamachi. Every single dish was memorable and something I'd gladly order again. The Japanese milk bread lived up to its reputation, and the hamachi was especially fresh and flavorful. For our entrees, we ordered the roasted chicken, surf and turf, and a side of Brussels sprouts. The chicken was cooked perfectly, tender, juicy, and practically cuttable with a butter knife. The steak was equally impressive, and the lobster was rich, buttery, and packed with flavor. We came in to celebrate Birthdays. Gerard was our server and he was awesome. The restaurant was busy for Father's Day and there were 9 of us celebrating birthdays and Father's Day. The food wasn't the best as we remember it...the shrimp on the seafood tower was tasty but half were peeled and the others were not. Mud vein still in place. Not appealing. The bone in steak was not cooked to desired doneness and had to be sent back. The newly prepared steak was just ok. Something as simple as the wedge salad had too much of a mayonnaise taste to the dressing. Oh well..:it was very busy and maybe the kitchen couldn't keep up... The bus service was poor. Dirty dishes stayed on the table , water wasn't refilled without having to ask. The hostess had a top that was so revealing totally inappropriate. Hostess wore too short of skirts . Dress code doesn't apply to staff nor to everyone. Jeans, flip flops, etc allowed for guests??? There were also errors on our bill which they promptly corrected after we left and had to return and brought to their attention. We were charged for the steak that was sent back plus the new steak . As we were leaving we noticed makers mark bottles and asked who is getting these. They were for Father's Day and we had to ask for ours. Despite adhering to the restaurant's published dress code -- which prohibits items like athletic wear, baseball caps, and ripped denim -- we were denied service at the bar solely for wearing clean, professional black scrubs. Let me be clear: medical scrubs are not athletic wear. They are the uniform of healthcare professionals who serve our communities, often working long hours to care for others. Your website explicitly outlines what is and isn't acceptable attire, and nothing in your policy prohibits scrubs. Denying entry based on our profession, despite being respectfully dressed, was not only arbitrary but discriminatory. This kind of exclusionary and elitist attitude toward healthcare workers, who often come straight from serving patients, reflects poorly on your management and ethos. When you prioritize superficial appearances over decency and inclusivity, especially toward those in the medical field, you alienate the very people who help keep your community safe and healthy. Let this be a warning: treating people this way may preserve your "elevated environment" in the short term, but in the long run, it will lead to the demise of your reputation and business. I've been to Maple & Ash several times, usually sitting at the bar. Anthony, the bartender, is always fantastic - every experience with him has been outstanding. Unfortunately, my recent visits were disappointing. I was there on the Friday after New Year's and returned a few days later to celebrate my sister's birthday. This time, a different bartender was working, and I had an issue with being overcharged. I ordered a seafood tower during happy hour and requested a side of pasta. However, the bartender charged for three portions per person, which didn't make sense to me. When I addressed it, she explained that if one portion is ordered and there are two to five people, she charges additional portions automatically. This policy seemed unreasonable and unclear. She then mentioned that she had provided a complimentary dessert for my sister's birthday, but the way it was said made me feel as though I was being made to seem like I was fishing for freebies - it felt degrading. I spoke with the assistant manager, Louis, but he sided with the bartender. While he eventually comped the extra pasta portions (which should have been $10 instead of $30), I felt like my concerns weren't taken seriously. We came to celebrate my sister's birthday and were seated right away, which was a great start to the evening. My family brought balloons, cake, and presents, but we were informed that balloons couldn't be brought into the seating area. (Just a heads-up for anyone planning to bring decorations!) The staff stored the balloons in the back for us to pick up after dinner. Our server, Hannah, was amazing--so attentive and thoughtful throughout the entire night. The food was equally impressive. I have never been here and wanted to book a party of 13 maybe 16 max. I didn't want to book the private dining green room and pay a minimum because I'm not the one paying so I requested a table in the dining room instead. I figured two tables of 8 would be just fine. Suddenly it changed to a $1600 check minimum and an $800 deposit to sit at 2 tables in their PUBLIC dining room!? What!? A minimum check requirement for non private dining?! never heard of that in my life, there's not 1 other restaurant that does that. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Not to mention the $800 deposit. We probably would have gone over $1600 no problem but to put that as a requirement when we aren't even in a private room is RIDICULOUS. Either they really need the green room booked or they are hurting for money bad. Either way, the manager Victoria was rude and blamed this new policy on covid. Since when does covid have anything to do with how much money you spend?? I'm so glad I didn't book here. On Friday 03/19/21, we left Ocean44 and "walked" over to Maple & Ash Scottsdale. We were instantly greeted by management and sat exactly where we wanted to sit, at the bar! From the time we sat down to the time we left we were treated like royalty. Christina Demas and her bar team "Thayna and Nicole" made sure every need we had was met, I told them how I liked my drink "Tito's and fresh squeezed orange juice" and it was perfect and refilled at the perfect time! The Steak and potatoes I ordered was pure perfection and far better than the one I had been eating at Ocean44 for the past 2 years! Christina even pulled down a bottle of LOUIS XIII Cognac for me to see! I live next door to Ocean44, but my new destination every week for my friends and I is now Maple & Ash Scottsdale, I've never had a perfect meal and ambiance like you provided, thank you! Wow. Maple and Ash was absolutely incredible and one of the best and most fun dining experiences I have ever had. Over the top in every way. The service was absolutely AMAZING and was everything you would want from a high end restaurant but not stuffy at all. Very unique. The decor and ambiance are what I would expect from Joel Roubechon but with a laid back fun twist. The food was OUTSTANDING. We had caviar oysters which were incredible, fire roasted crab legs with a "pasta back" also incredible, bone in New York and the Spinalis which is the ribeye cap and the most flavorful part of the steak. Sides we had such gratin potatoes and fire roasted corn also both incredible. I really am at a loss for words to describe how great and unique our dining experience was and I can't wait to go back. We are very lucky that the best steakhouse in Chicago opened a location here. Do yourself a favor and go enjoy this incredible restaurant. read more

For dinner my friend and I shared the Camelback cactus roll. Wow! What a unique medly of ingredients! Tahin, cream cheese, cactus, raw salmon, charred corn and orange! Utter perfection. Best roll I've had in my life! After the roll I had such high hopes for the Wagyu fried rice but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The steak was dry and cut, thin. The rice was not memorable. It just seemed like regular rice flavored with a few ingredients that didn't stand out. For nearly $60, I wish we would've chosen differently, and no one checked on satisfaction once food arrived. Nevertheless, I'll assume this was simply a poor choice of an entrée, and was still overall impressed with the atmosphere, menu options, and that first roll. Prices are high making it less appealing to try a bunch of different things so more a place for a special night out than to frequent.

I hope it was just a super busy night but we waited over 35 minutes after finishing our Short Rib dumpling and Yellowtail Serrano. The taste of the appetizers themselves was a bit lackluster in when it comes to seasoning. Texture of the dumplings was new, not found at just any asian restaurant with it being firm and holding the filling really well while being an easy bite. But for taste, it was fairly basic inside. For our entrees, we had the Miso Cod which was really well done as a dish, Peppercorn Tenderloin, and their peking duck fried rice. Another dish I really liked from the night was the tenderloin because of how soft the meat was with its savory flavors hitting. I would avoid the fried rice because it was very disappointing with the small bits of duck that were overdone and little to no flavor in the rice itself..on top of it coming out cold. The desserts we got were the Ube Creme Brulee and Pumpkin Spiced Cronut, both were very nice touches to our dinner for sure! I preferred the Cronut just because the sweetness was a delightful treat and the soft warm texture of the pastry. I'd love to comeback another time and see if it was just a one time occurrence of really slow service, many other tables that arrived after us had multiple dishes flying out for them but not for us. Our server which will be un-named, had forgotten our order a couple times and asked for them repeatedly instead of just noting it down or however it could have been done. While not refilling our waters until the very end. Overall, I'd comeback just to see if we just got unlucky this time around or maybe not test that theory.

The top highlights of my night were the Pepper Me Mocktail, Pork Belly, and the Petite Filet. The Pork Belly is so rich in flavor while being melt in your mouth soft. No other place I've been has yet to replicate the cook on that pork like 333 does. The Filet I received medium rare had such a great top sear that was perfectly seasoned upon arrival and paired amazingly with the soft mashed potatoes. Finally, the desserts were heavenly, I especially loved the Banana Blondie because of its warm decadent bite alongside the ice cream and crumbs. Whether you come for the beautiful indoor seating, or to have a great meal with friends, you're in for a treat no matter what.

Disappointing experience, not what we booked!…read more I've been to 333 before and loved the dining room, so I brought two friends for their first visit. Unfortunately, it will be our last. When I made the reservation, there was no option to choose a room and no mention of any seating besides the main dining room. We were seated in a separate bar room. It was nice, but it had none of the LED screens or immersive experience that make this restaurant worth the price. When I asked the hostess and manager about it, they didn't apologize. They told me I hadn't requested the main dining room and that the second room had only been added a couple of months ago. There's no way for guests to request something they don't know exists. When the bill came, we each wrote in ti add a 20% tip when my friend noticed that gratuity had already been added automatically for our table of THREE. The menu states auto-gratuity applies to parties of six, and our server never mentioned it. It's the kind of charge that could easily be paid twice. Thankfully we noticed. To top it off, the restaurant is supposed to validate valet parking for up to two hours. Staff knew we had valeted, but no one offered to validate it, so we paid full price ($15 plus $5 tip). I didn't learn about the validation until the next day, when I received a follow-up message asking about our experience. So we each paid $20 for a very subpar dining experience that was over $250 for 3 ppl. We shared one appetizer (meatballs) which were not noted to be spicy but were very spicy for 2 of us so went unfinished. We shared 2 entrees ($69 each and came with no sides) and a basket of fries and shared one dessert. And we each had one cocktail. Very pricey for what we got. The lobster pasta dish was good but the sea bass bland. With entrées averaging around $75, small portions, and no sides, I expect the service and transparency to match the price. The Valley has plenty of excellent restaurants, and I won't be returning to this one.

I believe the outdoor patio offers a lighter menu option compared to sitting inside. The staff holds exceptional standards. Not only were they friendly and helpful but they worked as a team. While I'm asking the waitress questions, another staff member comes up and takes the dirty plates from her hands so sly. Now onto the food....words don't do the pictures justice. Everything I ate was amazing. I would absolutely visit again, again, and again! I'm still thinking about the insane flavors each item brought. I would have not ordered the sushi cubes but our waitress said I would enjoy it based on our convo, she was CORRECT! The chicken sliders still keep me up at night dreaming of them. If I lived closer I would order from this place frequently. The drinks were strong and a perfect balance.
