We were told to check out Maple and Ash on our whirlwind visit to Scottsdale. You need reservations and ours were at 9pm on a Wednesday, the place was hopping! This is definitely an event. Our waiter, Michael, started us off with a splash of a welcome libation. Prickly Pear followed by warm bread, breakfast radishes, olives and salami. We split the toasted golden beet salad that was a mouth party on a bed of burrata style cheese with a little marscapone, arugula, lemon vinaigrette, so yummy. Dude had the salmon, I had the Bolognese-equally fantastic. That said I was swilling a PURPLE, lavender gin fizz...the sides of mashed potatoes were SINFUL. The Brussel sprouts were great, and the onion rings had some extra flavor and finally a moment of silence for the lemon mousse. Such an amazing dinner and wonderful dining experience! read more

It pains me to write this but I've been a fan of M and A for many years and always thought of them as one of the best in Scottsdale. The problem is the last two times I went I've noticed a pretty big change it quality since like 2 years ago. The steak quality has really gone down hill. Both times the steaks were chewy whereas a few years ago this was never the case. The service is okay but used to be something really special. Please bring back the quality because it's noticeably different. Even the sides weren't as wow as they used to be. The grilled asparagus should just be removed from the menu honestly. read more

Ambiance was great, very romantic! Perfect date night, friend night out or anniversary type of vibe. We had soooo much food and everything was great. Waygu filet was good, not the best we have ever had but still tasty and cooked like we wanted. Very good but not sure how much better it actually is compared to their regular filet. All of the sides we had were all 10/10 and I would recommend every single one of them. Lobster Mac and cheese, ricotta agnolotti (pillows of love), dry aged meatballs, hamachi crudo, scallops and potatoes graten. So. Much. Food! Lol Everyone was extremely nice and friendly and our waitress was very sweet as well. We brought our 5 year old daughter with us since this was a vacation for us and didn't have a sitter. Probably not the best idea.. they have pictures of naked women on the walls and we happen to sit right next to one so we got a million questions about why there was a pic of a naked girl. This place is so good; I want to go to other locations of the restaurant. We went here to celebrate my friend birthday. This is my first time at this restaurant and I must say I loved it. I have a friend who lives in Chicago and it makes me want to try the other locations. I am form New York and they do not have a location in Mew York. Well let's talk about this food so this food is delicious I had the crab Benedict and the amount of the crab was perfect a good amount. Their bacon is amazing; I still think of this bacon. Their food is so delicious and their service is also amazing. They had a dj and it was such a lovely atmosphere. They also did refill my glass but I would say it was a little slow with the refilling. It was busy so it was not a deal breaker. This place was so wonderful as I write this review it makes me want to back. I do plan to go to the location in Chicago because I want to the seafood tower. I want a location in New York so I would can go their regularly. They also give you berries to put in your mimosas. The sides are all shared so I think it is great family brunch style. After an underwhelming first experience due to service. Maple & Ash invited myself and a guest back to have the opportunity to provide a better experience. My fiancé and I dined last night and we were seated on their patio area, which is so beautiful. The weather was perfect and from the beginning the service was phenomenal. We were greeted with a welcome cocktail, our server Sarah introduced herself and took the time to chat with us and make us feel welcomed. We ordered the I don't give a F**k which was 5 courses, chefs choosing and it did not disappoint. We had oysters paired with a shit of vodka, a seafood in chili oil amongst other spices, pasta, bone-in ribeye, mashed potatoes, pillows of love and a dessert sundae tray to die for. I was a huge fan of the experience and the food was something to rave about, that chili oil sauce was incredible I couldn't get enough! Sarah took the time to serve each entree that came out, interact with us and never did we lack, water or drinks. Now to the food - let me first say that each and every bite is what decadence tastes like and the flavors are expertly crafted. No matter what you order here you can't go wrong. There were four of us in here late on a Sunday, and we were looking for a night of excess! One to be remembered. Less of a meal than an experience. Well Maple & Ash exceeded expectations. We started with caviar and oysters, followed by the meatballs and foie gras, and ended with the roasted seafood tower. It was perfection. The best part was the seafood tower. The flavors were punchy and delicious. You could taste the wood fire, garlic butter, and chili oil, but it didn't overpower or detract from the sweet crab, lobster, scallops, and other seafood. First time here however I have dined at every similar restaurant around the valley. I expected more but finished completely flat. Had reservations which made seating easy and the valet parking is definitely a major plus in that area. Our waiter (name quickly forgotten sorry) was pleasant and had a great suit and a well done 3 point pocket square with a quality Windsor knot in his tie to boot. He is a great example for some of the other staff to learn from. We were quickly provided with a lemonade martini complimentary to start which was refreshing. Soon after the bread and an order of chips and dip also arrived which as a trio ended up being the highlight of my meal sadly enough. The wine made it to the table quickly and we had a good idea of what we wanted before we showed up as we don't stray far from our norm in these establishment types. Opening time is 5pm and our reservations were for 6. We started our order with Wagyu Carpaccio and it's accoutrements; king crab, truffle, and Siberian caviar sounded great. Problem was the item was limited in number and within 1 hour of open they were sold out as a large party spoke for them all apparently. We went with the Hamachi Crudo which was going to be my first choice anyway and raw oysters. Both solid choices although I prefer slightly larger oysters and both done well. The Crudo was a solid choice. Onto the main entrée I went with the classic ribeye medium rare while my wife did the surf and turf. We paired them with the mac & cheese with a lobster add on and the black truffle loaded potato. The surf and turf presented poorly. The trim on the 6 oz filet was ugly and it was probably the point end of the filet. Next time square it up. It looked like a meat nugget. The flavor on the ribeye was decent but the cut was gross. The meat was "loose" and somewhat dry for a ribeye and when paired with a completely dull knife I sawed away at it like lumberjack. When what I would assume was management asked me how the steak was he could not find the time to stop moving his feet long enough to hear my answer anyway as he did the customary "I'm going to ask you how everything is but I don't really care I have to keep moving" dance. I replied "decent but you really need to throw this knife away". He smiled and continued on without a care in the world. Potatoes and mac & cheese were as expected with butter being the overwhelming note on each. I did not finish the steak and HAVE NEVER not finished a steak. We left the remaining sides to with no desire to bring them back and relive the experience. With 24 million in sales in 1 location the extra charge for staff benefits is a complete and total joke. She went out of her way to show our expecting friend a list of mocktails. I'm sure you're wondering why I gave only 3 stars for such a rave review. I went to Maple & Ash with my wife and two friends last night I ordered the wedge salad, and it was excellent. However, my main course was hardly exceptional. I ordered the salmon, and it was way overcooked and dry. Instead of the couscous it had mushrooms with spinach that was so salty I could hardly eat it. And I love salty food. The asparagus side was also nothing to write home about. Very bland and boring. My wife had the Branzino and said it was also just ok. Our friends both had steak and raved they were the best ever eaten. Guess I should have had the steak. Service was great but for what I paid it was way too expensive for what I got. To end the night, I went into the restroom and there was a rather large roach on the urinal. The attendant took care of it and we laughed about it. Mostly came for oyster happy hour and they did not disappoint. $2 east coast oysters or you can dress it with caviar for +$5 (they give you a scoop so you can add to multiple oysters). Both raw and fire roasted were delicious. Things I recommend from the HH menu: sizzling beef ($16), blue prawn shrimp cocktail ($5 each), beef tenderloin steak tartare ($18). My fiancee and I visited Maple and Ash last week for her birthday. I really wanted to give it a better rating because they provided a great dining experience overall. We ordered the "I Don't Give a F@@k" tasting menu which is a little costly, but features a diverse selection of menu items. The service was attentive, the food was excellent and we had plenty to take home. Unfortunately after we got home, my fiancee and I both started to feel unwell. Half an hour after we got home, she threw up violently -- a lot, I'm guessing most of her meal. For my part, I did not throw up but had a bad stomach ache well into the next day. We were looking forward to coming back here but I'm hesitant after getting sick, and that makes the place tough for me to recommend. read more

We celebrated our anniversary at Maple & Ash last week. While our servers were mostly attentive, the atmosphere and food were less than perfect. The restaurant was loud, voices carried and there was a large table of 5 nearby that were making so much noise, we couldn't even hear each other talking. We shared the bone marrow appetizer, which left us underwhelmed. My husband had the filet and I had the salmon. We also ordered a side of their buttery potatoes, which was such a mistake. They were gritty and had the texture of powdered potatoes. Had our server came by to inquire after serving the meal, we would have requested something else instead. My salmon was also very undercooked, and came out lukewarm, it would have been better served either cold or hot but not some in between. The "custom" menu was a nice touch, but beyond that there are much better steak houses in Scottsdale to enjoy. read more

Returned on 2/17 for a birthday dinner for a few friends. This reservation was booked out 2 months in advance and we were super excited to return. I was EXTREMELY annoyed that we were sat on the "climate controlled" patio.... Which is literally the patio with like pull down shades that had big gaps and I could feel the wind blowing in on my back all night and it was freezing and u comfortable. Not to mention the floor is super slick and definitely unsafe in feels. I wasn't happy to be eating a 1000$ meal on a patio in the winter at an upscale restaurant. Also worth mentioning we passed many empty tables on the way through the restaurant. As for the food we didn't do the IDGAF this time because previously it was just way too much food. Dinner was good, kinda lackluster after experiencing the IDGAF I will say. The highlight was the dessert tower and Mac and cheese. Maple and Ash Where to begin. We had a Mother's Day brunch reservation. Upon arrival you will see a dapper looking crowd due to the dress code requirements (no cargo shorts, hats, etc) . Upon entering, the view of the inside of restaurant is somewhat out of sight from the hostess area. The hostess is smartly and modernly dressed to appeal to the "in" crowd. It seems more like you are trying to get into a night club than a restaurant. Once your name is called, she informs you that (insert name of the hostess assistant..let's use Jeffrey for this purpose) will be showing you to your table. Upon first view of the inside decor, you are walked through the bar area past the kitchen and to a fancy table set fully with numerous glasses, a plate, fork and knife. The table has a real candle burning in the middle. Larger tables have a 5 candle candelabra as well. There I are modern wall curtains, lights and other niceties that make up the decor. After being seated, Jeffery hands you a menu and states the name of your server (we'll use Amber for this review as a fictional name) will be right over. Upon first view of the brunch menu, it looks relatively typical to what one would find. What does stand out, however, is the price. More on that later. We were treated with a complementary small Mother's Day glass of a sparkling rosé wine and my daughter was given a fruit juice concoction that tasted like pineapple lime juice. We toasted mom and then were treated to some complementary beignets with a cinnamon butter. They tasted fresh and warm but were essentially small pieces of fried dough with a fancy name. Amber was a good waitress and built a small rapport by asking if it was our first time into the restaurant and then giving us the up-sale low down on how everything was a la carte and we should order an appetizer and sides with our main entree. She then took our drink order and realized we looked like we were ready to make our food order as well (good observational skill as a waitress). So we ordered. My daughter and I ordered French Toast while my wife had a steak and egg combination. Prior to our food coming out, Amber once again asked if we wanted any sides, like bacon. My daughter loves bacon, and my wife had no idea the cost so she said yes to that. My wife commented on my face after Amber left. I said, do you know how much the bacon is here? $12. In my mind I was expecting a couple $6 strips of bacon. Moving along, the original food order came out and we began to eat. Apparently they are very proud of their French toast. They charged $32 for four slices of bread with some berries, syrup, and butter...each. I don't care if you make the finest French Toast in the world. No where on planet earth is any style of fabulous French toast worth $32. Maple please. On top of that, one egg on top of a ribeye steak was $55. I didn't say a word because my wife picked this place as her Mother's Day meal. She also had a cocktail that was their version of a Moscow mule that they were also proud of for $21. The bacon finally came out and it was four giant hunks of pork belly that tastes somewhat like smoked bacon, but was essentially smoked pork belly, which most kids probably wouldn't eat as "bacon." It would have been nice if that was explained to us when we were being upsold, knowing we had never been there before. Once again, if the meal is amazing, I don't mind paying top dollar. The food was better than a standard breakfast restaurant, but no better than The Breakfast Club but was triple the cost. That being said, you certainly aren't just paying for the food at this restaurant. If you want to feel like a high roller and overpay to make yourself feel like you are making it in this world, by all means, this is the place for you. But at the end of the day, the food has to be the highlight of the experience, not the decor, well dressed attractive wait staff, or the clientele around you. The food was overpriced for what you get and once again--no French toast is worth $32. Both my wife and I agreed we probably would go to several other places prior to choosing this one again. I do, however want to try it for dinner to see if their fillet steak is worth it. As far as brunch, I would pass. You can leave that for all the people who like to overpay for things. read more
