Definitely one of the hidden gems in SW Portland. Very cozy atmosphere with fun, indoor options and inviting outdoor patio space. This place is popular, so be prepared to park a few blocks away in the neighborhood and take a short stroll. Once inside, you will often be greeted by a line. That's because this place is a local favorite and the options that a you are definitely enticing. I had a small Americano and I tried the potato breakfast bowl. Both were excellent. The portions are a bit on the small side, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. All of the baked goods are exceptionally good. I do see that they offer adult beverages so I imagine the space transforms a bit as the day goes on. One of my favorite places to grab a coffee and walk around the neighborhood. If you end up staying, you'll be more than delighted because this coffee shop fits like a glove. read more

Maplewood Coffee & Tea has it all! The drinks and food are handcrafted and delicious. I've never had a better cardamom latte. I love that they make their own house syrups that are full of deep flavor. So many places serve mass-produced syrups that taste synthetic, and many places that make their own fall short of flavor, but this is not the case at Maplewood. I finally caved and got a pumpkin spice latte this past weekend (close enough to autumn, yeah!?) and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. Is it corny to say this pumpkin spice latte was transcendent? I don't care; I stand by this claim. The drinks are a bit pricier than other places, but I don't mind the extra charge for truly exceptional handcrafted flavored syrups. The food is equally fantastic. Over our few visits, I've sampled a few of their offerings: * Cardamom bun with orange glaze (yup, you guessed it, I'm a cardamom fangirl) * Focaccia breakfast sandwich (absoflippinglutely flavorful, but dangerously messy, you have been warned) * Earl Grey shortbread (deeeelish!) * Seasonal "slipper" (mine was a jalapeño and corn situation that was super flavorful) * Taste of the olive oil cake, which was tender and delicately sweet Oh, and for those of you with an eye for such details, the food is often served on adorable, mismatched vintage plates. Who knew a cardamom bun could taste extra special when it's served on an enchanting little berry plate? I may be too old to state it like this, but here goes- the vibes are immaculate here. The cafe is in a vintage house, and the space is cozy, comfortable, and welcoming with plenty of seating inside and on the sweet patio. The staff and service are lovely. For those of you who enjoy an adult beverage, they have beer and wine as well. This little gem is tucked into a residential neighborhood very near a school with parking along the "bike bus route", so time your moves accordingly during the school year and be mindful of your parking in this adorable neighborhood. Went to meet up with friends for morning coffee. Maplewood had a very warm, homey vibe with it being set up as a true coffeehouse. The staff we interacted with were kind as we got our usual standard drinks. The to go cups that they gave us were very interesting, never used them before. I wasn't the biggest fan of them, although I understand trying to be eco-friendly it's just not for me personally. Other than that, good experience. Our friends got food and it looked really good so may have to comeback to try it! read more

I am new to the neighborhood and my neighbors gave me a gift certificate to Maplewood. Tucked in a neighborhood, I never would have found it if they had not. What a treat! From the front it looks quaint and small but it is surprisingly large with three rooms. Feels very much like. Cozy neighborhood spat with lots of regulars - which it is. The quiche was outstanding and the bean and ham soup looked great. I'll be back many times! I love my new neighborhood! read more

One of my favorite coffee spots in Portland! You can always count on Maplewood to have exceptional drinks and food. Their potato bowl is superb. Prepare yourself for a long line however, as it has become a popular spot as of recently. Maplewood is located inside of a repurposed home in a neighborhood near Multnomah Village. It is so charming, and is a great spot to come do some work or meet with a friend. There's lots of seating across the whole space, however parking can be tricky since it is in a neighborhood. Make sure when you go that you aren't blocking someone's driveway! read more

Environment: I'm pretty sure it's a house that was turned into a restaurant lol so it's fun and creatively renovated. It was still cozy and with different kinds of chairs and tables. There's also outdoor seating too if the weather is nice. Staff: they took our orders and everything else was self serve so, yep. That's all. Food: I ordered their beef and barley soup and it came with focaccia. The bread was nice, bouncy, and seasoned well. The soup was sooooooooooooooo salty!!! I ate all the bread they gave and it was not enough. I had to drink water between the soup. The barley was on the harder side, it was my first time trying barley and my jaw was sore. Anyways, the saltiness of the soup was too much- couldn't finish it and just ate the beef. The beef was also not very tender. For $14, it was not worth it in my opinion. I also got a cappuccino and that was nice, strong, and flavorful. But I wanted to eat too and sadly the soup was disappointing. read more

I can't believe I didn't know about this gem of a cafe after living in SW for 15+ years! I was researching nearby cafes and added this to my "want to visit" list and it still took me a while to get in, but I'm so glad to know about it now. They have coffee and food, inside seating in a few different areas and both covered and open outside seating. It's located in a residential neighborhood (so jealous of the neighbors!), so be mindful of parking and carpool if you're bringing a group. I had a coffee and a pastry. My savory pastry was just what the doctor ordered. My companion got a bagel and coffee and had no complaints. The drip coffee variety that day wasn't my favorite, but I'm planning to come back for an espresso in future and will check for what variety of coffee is on drip. Once I figure out my preferred drink here, this place will probably be on regular rotation. read more

This place is probably what you imagine when you picture a neighborhood cafe. Nestled amidst winding, greenery-lined streets, in a quaint old building, and decorated with lots of lovely local art. Indeed, I was quite smitten with Maplewood when I first came in, and found some great fare inside. They have all sorts of wonderful things on the menu; ranging from baked goods to sandwiches to breakfast bowls. So you are certain to find something to your taste here. I went with a "Classic", a yummy bagel sandwich of eggs, cheese, bacon, and greens, and I also tried one of their outstanding (and coincidentally, vegan) almond cookies. This really hit the spot, especially accompanied by a refreshing Golden Milk Latte. On the whole, I found everything was delicious, the portions were good, and the price ranges were decent. The setting and aesthetics of this spot are very nice, but keep in mind it is a popular joint, so the ambiance is busy, kinda noisy, and you might be out of luck finding a table, though there is some additional overflow seating on their outside deck. The staff were fantastic and stayed on top of things, and were serving up orders fairly quickly. Also, if you are driving over, be aware it is all street parking, and you may need to go a few blocks to find a spot, so definitely park with caution and be sure not to block any driveways. So all in all, this is a delightful little breakfast spot. And I think the chances are good I might swing by again when next I'm in town. read more

I liked the place first but then was disappointed. I happened to come to this cafe twice yday- first for a morning coffee w/ friend and then returned for lunch w/ my husband. The coffee and pastries were very nice but avoid the seasoned potato breakfast bowl. It was a pathetic bowl of over spiced over cocked potatoes with an over fried egg on top. The bowl was smothered with very spicy chili oil which gave me a stomach ache for the rest of the day. The whole bowl was overpriced and not nearly enough for satisfying meal. Finally Yelp really came through! This place is a super find, a hidden gem! We were staying at an Airbnb near downtown Portland and were looking for somewhere charming for breakfast. Totally worth the 13 minute drive to the Maplewood neighborhood. (We wanted a place to go play pickleball afterward, by the way. ) Friendly, confident, knowledgeable staff and delicious food, creative espresso drinks. Lots of food options including options for vegans and vegetarians. Coffee drinks are solid. I had an iced vanilla almond milk latte. Fantastic! Also tried the vegan breakfast sandwich.... Yum! And I'm not vegetarian nor vegan. I just wanted to try it. It's small but packed with flavor. WiFi worked great! I was able to get some work done before meeting up with my cousins. We came to Maplewood to get breakfast. I ordered the veggie sprout bagel and vanilla latte. The bagel was okay but I feel like it was very overpriced for what I got. The vanilla latte was really good and I enjoyed it. The reason why I took stars off was for several reasons. They have baked goods next to the counter. There were flies that were sitting on the muffins and cookies. I was planning on ordering some but I instantly lost my appetite once I saw these flies. I don't understand why they would just leave their baked goods out in the open. Our food came out so late when we literally ordered bagels. I feel like this restaurant is overhyped for what it is. read more

I've only come here once before and had a great experience - great food and beautiful place. This time was a completely different experience. A worker (older man) asked my friend and I to move from a table to a different area because they have a "limited laptop time policy". Looking around, that clearly wasn't true - 90% of their customers are on laptops. We chose this table by the window because it's the only one with an outlet nearby in the front room, so it makes sense laptop users would want to sit there. When we were asked to move, we had barely been there an hour, we ordered food and drinks, and were occupying a space we thought was welcome. No one else in that room had been asked to move or given notice about the "limited laptop time" so I can't help but feel it was targeted. Again, everyone around us was on a laptop with headphones on. It was a weak excuse to get us to leave for whatever reason. I was hoping this would become a new regular spot for me to come weekly and work (like everyone else here) but this is no way to treat customers who want to support your business. read more

I have a friend who lives in the neighborhood who introduced me to this place. It's adorable and reminded me of one of my favorite places on Scholls Ferry that's also a cute little house. The service is great! They are super friendly. They have pastries, a menu of food items, and really good coffee. My favorite thing is their orange cardamom twist. It's a beautiful pastry. Their breakfast sandwich was pretty delicious too. I love that they put an omelette on there instead of scrambled eggs. I can't wait to try more of their menu! I also really love their vanilla latte. WIFI DOES NOT WORK!!! Seating is extremely limited and line is huge due to lack of staff. I waited a long time for my overpriced food, only to find out I can't even stay because their WiFi is down. The staff member denied that there was anything wrong with the WiFi despite 2 of my devices and 2 from other customers not connecting. I tried for 45 minutes to restart my computer, run troubleshooting, etc. and nothing worked. Don't waste your time and money here. They blatantly lie about turning the WiFi off to get customers to leave so they can make more money. read more

8/10 Pros: Spacious interiors for individuals, pairs, and small groups. Large open windows and clean aesthetic, general tidiness. The chai was very good and not overly spiced and overpowering, which is a something I usually struggle with in general with chai, though it was a little sweet for me. I would definitely recommend giving it a try. The food smelled delicious and I overheard others exclaiming how good it was, so I'm willing to bet it's very good here. The cafe was very accommodating for people doing work or studying. This is an excellent atmosphere. Cons: They do close early for a coffee shop that serves food at 3pm on a Saturday and saw many people scrambling in at 2:55pm while I had to look up a new spot. I understand shops close at this time, but I find many more close later. The staff was a little too cool for school/seemed cold and unwelcoming when I was ordering so I gotta mark them down for that. read more
