    Balandra - shrimp ceviche
    Sylvia H.

Mmmm I'm glad that even though we ordered so much food from Tuetano Taqueria that I decided to go for some ceviche because it was so yummy! Opted for the Shrimp ceviche (Balandra) and it was a good sized portion. It was so flavorful and also spicy, I loved every bite of it. It came with 4 tostadas and those were delicious and perfectly fried and crispy. My only complaint was that not only us, but everyone that ordered from Mar Rustico ended up having to wait a really long time for the food. In fact, we had ordered and finished all our tacos from Tuetano Tacqueria and still had to wait for the Mar Rustico which we ordered at nearly the same time. It probably took 45 minutes. I was really glad we at least had the tacos to eat to fill us up, otherwise, I'd be quite unhappy with the wait. Plenty of outdoor seating and not too crowded for a Friday lunch!

Always on the lookout for new places to dine. Came to Old Town and checked out the food hall on the corner of Congress and found this cute outdoor spot. We ordered a birria quesadilla and fish tacos up at the counter and sat down in the covered patio area to wait. About 10ish minutes our food was ready, the food was all delicious, flavorful and piping hot. The birria was my favorite, juicy and tender! Fish tacos came close though I must say! They were flaky and fried just right, crema was delicious as well as the pico de gallo. It's a bit pricey but worth it! Good food, chill atmosphere, come see for yourself!

After getting off the train in Old Town we walked a couple blocks looking for food and found this location. Lots of outdoor seating and fresh options. The portion size for the shrimp ceviche (La Paz) was huge and easily shareable. The flavors were delicious and very fresh. Would definitely visit again.

I had the Balandra ceviche and a Michelada and both were AMAZING!!! So so good!! The ceviche has mango, serrano peppers, tomato, onion, avocado, lime, and shrimp. The shrimp is just nearly cooked with the lime, which is how I like it. The Michelada is full of flavor, I got the one that has Clamato for added flavor and it's so so good. One of my new favorites!! The chamoy and Tajin rim with tamarindo stick just make it perfect.

Didn't get any food but popped in for a drink with friends. Got the watermelon marg and it's the best thing I've ever tasted for a marg. Super sweet and tastes like candy so be cautious :)

Nicest place to sit in the new food court - and you will probably end up sitting/waiting longer (and paying more) than you expect. But music is good - and so is the food (when it eventually is ready). I decided to try their smoked Marlin burritos (to compare with those I often order in Puerto Vallarta - where I am used to paying less than half the price for more than twice as much fish). Here you get 2 skinny burritos. As most people probably order ceviche here, I'd recommend they consider offering a mixed-seafood burrito (Marlin + shrimp + octopus). Drinks include cocktails, beer, horchata, and Jamaica - or water (at no cost). IF prices were lower and wait for food shorter I'd add a star.

Twice I got complimentary soup, twice did not. Maybe end of day is better in terms of what they give out. Sometimes there's condiments. Their outdoor eating area kind of changes too a bit sometimes. I get the OG taco usually and my gf gets the ceviche. Never had complaint although on most recent trip the ceviche seemed smaller portion. The taco was 5.99 each and fish seemed bigger than usual. I kind of suspect that as they close down they give bigger portions of what they have left. They had sold out of octopus and other menu items. Do try get there before 6:30pm cause they do start packing around 6:45 ish. Quality is good, tastes fresh. Tacos were filling for just $12. I had been to SD twice before and wanted to check out somewhere I hadn't been. Enter Blue Water - the reviews and pics looks great, and the weather called for seafood, so I decided to head here and check it out. This Blue Water is located on India St in Mission Hills, though they have another location in Ocean Beach. Parking can be a little tricky, as there is no parking lot they are on a main road close to a split in a residential area. The interior is pretty spacious - the fish market is towards the front, and the ordering counter is in the back. Seating is spread out between the main area where the market is, a side room, and outdoors in the front. Decor and aesthetics are casual - very seafood restaurant-esque with straightforward design. The foot traffic set up so you order first and then find a table before they serve your meal to you. The menu is extensive - they have a large selection of fish that can be prepared several ways. It's a little overwhelming to take in, but there was no pressure for us to order; if there's a line all the more time to explore. I ultimately decided to get their mini shrimp tacos - these were served on a corn tortilla and topped with cabbage, tomatoes, onions, white sauce, and cheddar cheese with a side of tomatillo sauce. The tacos were great - super fresh, they didn't skimp on the shrimp, and all the flavors and textures worked really well together. I also ordered a cup of NE clam chowder which was good - not the best one I've had but for being in Southern California it held its own. Service was good - I'm seeing reviews of long lines but I think I came at the right time; there are barely a line to order and my meal was served shortly after that. Overall, Blue Water is a yes - I had a great experience here and wouldn't hesitate to return next time I'm in SD.

But every once in a while, hubby has a special request & we make it happen. His San Diego wish? Thursday night all-you-can-eat lobster dinner at 100s Seafood Grill Buffet. And when I say seafood extravaganza, I mean it. Beyond the lobster, there were crab legs, oysters, sushi galore (maki, nigiri & sashimi), lots of Asian specialties plus plenty of American comfort-food favorites to satisfy just about everyone. Now, full disclosure: my feelings were a little mixed, but hubby? He was living his absolute best life. The lobster is served cut in half & broiled, which unfortunately made the meat sort of melt into the shell. Each half ended up being only a couple bites & you did have to wait in line to grab one when fresh trays came out (one half per person at a time). That said, credit where it is due: the kitchen brought out lobster trays pretty regularly, so the wait never felt unreasonable. Meanwhile, hubby proceeded to eat what I can only describe as his body weight in crab legs. His only critique was that he prefers them served hot rather than cold, although the hot butter on draft definitely helped make up for that. I also appreciated how many unique dishes were available beyond seafood, making the buffet feel more interesting than your standard steam-table experience. And for me, the dessert section was a standout, especially the gelato station, which I may or may not have visited more than once. At $56.99, my personal preference would probably be to spend that money at a really good sushi restaurant. But if your dream scenario involves unlimited lobster, crab legs, oysters & a seafood feast where you can try a little bit of everything, this place absolutely delivers. Final verdict? Maybe not my personal seafood fantasy but hubby was THRILLED & sometimes that's the most important review of all. NOM NOM NOM #YUM
