This was a nostalgia trip. The first time I ever had Marble Slab ice cream was in Galveston with my then boyfriend who became my husband. Amaretto is my favorite flavor, but I hadn't had it in years because I am lactose intolerant. I also haven't had a waffle cone in years because of a wheat intolerance. But I was visiting Galveston for a college reunion, and missing my now late husband, so a trip to Marble Slab seemed appropriate. The store has expanded and now houses a Great American Cookie Company counter as well. The place is brightly lit and very clean. I tried the amaretto and another flavor, and decided to get my old favorite in a classic waffle cone. I sat at a table inside and enjoyed my delicious ice cream while reminiscing about the past. Wow! We love our local Marble Slab. I work hard not to leave bad reviews. But come on! For $16.00 plus tip for an ice cream cone train your teenage staff and manager to live up to the fabulous and expensive ice cream standard. We love in the dead of winter the family who owns the business waits on us. But today? Not so great. We wait in front of ice cream cases as two teenage girls and an apparent older (still young) giggle and tease one male employee. We wait. We are the only ones. Finally one girl asks "Are you Ready?". Well I am a taste tester and was waiting to try new flavors. They can not stop giggling and so the young boy steps up. And I request my taste tests. But while he is working to get me my samples they are untying his apron and poking him! So finally I saw, "maybe quit teasing him until there are no customers." They glare! We get our ice creams and my husband asks to use their restroom. The door won't open. They say, "stick your fingernail in the lock to open it". Good lord REALLY! I wish I had checked the reviews before we went to this location! We are big fans of marble slab normally, but this one was lacking in several areas. The prices are high (3 ice creams ran us about $21), and the employee who made them added little mix-ins and didn't give very large scoops. The overall atmosphere is also not great, we were the only customers in the building and the employee still rushed to complete our ice cream leaving us with disappointing treats. While I would return to a marble slab in the future, it will not be at this location. read more

He walked in without his face mask and the employee behind the counter told him to put his mask on. Let me begin at the fact that when I asked to taste a certain flavor, one of the workers responded snarky, however I paid it no mind. I was then moved to the employee who mixed in toppings, who wasn't friendly. I pay that no mind considering it was the end of the night, near closing, but I was charged $8.95 for a cup of ice cream with toppings, whereas my friend paid $7.00 and had the same amount of ice cream and also had toppings. This was the worst marble slab I have ever been to. It was way over priced, they are not using the marble slab cones! They are some very small cones and they try to charge you for them even though it says they are included. I wouldn't go back to this place even if the ice cream was free. I love Marble Slabs, however, I was very disappointed in our trip there today. Maybe it was just the day, but the service left a lot to be desired. The girl who wound up helping me stared at us for maybe thirty seconds before I asked her if I could try something. As she was helping me I just felt like I was being rushed and was a burden to her. Mind you, it was only my husband and I in there, and they still had an hour till close. My husband, who was helped by a fellow I assume was the manager, wasn't even asked if he wanted add-ins, which if you go to any Marble Slab, is kind of a big deal. When I paid the girl who had been helping me was very annoyed by the fact I wanted a receipt also, which was awkward. I am giving this place a three because though the service was not on point, it was tidy and still had the flavors I love. read more

This was probably one of the worst experiences I've had at Marble Slab. My family and I got there after celebrating my mother's birthday since we were looking for a sweet spot to have dessert at. There was no one at the store but the two employees who were clearly annoyed when they saw us walk in. They had no patience for us and wanted us to hurry. At the cash register, she threw the change towards my hand which made all the change fall on the floor, in which she said "sorry about that" and just walked away (which was also later done to another customer and her family). Hopefully better staff will be hired to work here because I don't plan on spending over $30 on ice cream with terrible service read more
