My partner and I decided on this place while driving around in the area. The property faces the sidewalk and is located in a "touristy" spot surrounded by many other food options and shops in Kapa'a. This is lunchtime and the place isn't very busy. A younger gentleman said we could sit anywhere. A different gentleman (who was older) came to see if we were ready to order. I didn't think he was really nice. No Aloha spirit from this guy at all. Lol... This restaurant is open-air, so there were flies here and there. Saw a chicken pecking at a nearby table. To be fair, there are many of them wandering around on the islands (Kauai having the most I've seen). I just don't think they belong in a restaurant where people are trying to eat. I went to the bathroom and came back to chips and salsa, which were complimentary. The ratio of chips to salsa was off. There were too many chips and a tiny dish of salsa. Chips were warm. Salsa tasted bland and watery to me. There was also a long stem of cilantro in the salsa. Hey, I like cilantro, but I don't want long stems in my salsa. My partner asked for hot sauce, and we got squeeze bottles of red and green sauce brought to our table. The red and green sauces both had great flavor. The red was my favorite, and I think it had chipotle peppers in it. It had a smokey and spicy flavor. Green one was tame but still delicious. Our food came out super fast. I ordered a combination plate, which I selected an enchilada and carne asada taco. My plate also came with a side of rice and beans. My partner ordered chicken nachos. I did clean my plate up lol after all, I was pretty hungry after our flight here.. enchilada was good, same with sauce. However, I have to say as far as criticism goes... the meat was hard. My tortilla fell apart towards the end, but I appreciate that it seemed homemade. Guacamole was bland. I snacked on some of my partners' chicken nachos. I think it was lacking on some of the toppings listed from the menu. It was still okay. The lady from behind the bar I saw when we first walked in came to our table to ask if everything was okay. She was very sweet, smiling, and made eye contact. We told her everything was fine. Shortly after, the younger gentleman who seated us came to get our plates and get our check. He was really nice. We didn't see the older guy anymore during our lunch. Let me also mention there is only one toilet for women and one for men. I would hate coming here at night if the place is full of people drinking. I'm sure there would be lines of people waiting to use to the bathroom. This place is pricey but expected, not only because it's Hawaii but it's in a busier location. The salsa in the squeeze bottles and enchilada were the best parts of the meal. We loved Mariachi's. We went for breakfast twice during our vacation. The service there is great! And the food was delicious. We had the chorizo burrito & pancakes. Both were fantastic. We returned a couple days later for breakfast again. I had chilaquiles and my husband had the big breakfast- bacon, eggs and pancakes once again. Everything is so tasty there, but the pancakes are super incredible. The unexpected surprise was the family that sat next to us & paid for our breakfast. What a wonderful treat! That family is so incredible. I hope he reads this review to let him know how grateful we are for his generosity. And a huge thank you to Mariachi's staff for making our vacation a wonderful experience. Highly recommend you enjoy a meal there! read more

I live here, This is my "Go To" for breakfast! Mariachis has the best Huevos Rancheros on the island! Perfect fried potato's with peppers & onions. Friendly staff, who get the order right & are attentive to the customer. Someday I'll try something else in the menu, can't get past the Huevos Rancheros for now! The Carne asada plate with the corn tortillas is excellent. The burritos are some of the best that I've tried. Fried ice-cream? Oh yeah. Not far from the airport. Indoor and outdoor seating. Came by for an afternoon Margarita on a Sunday afternoon. Honestly, the drinks suck. They taste like a bottled mix...nothing fresh about them. We ordered a shredded beef burrito and it also was simply bad. The meat was grisly, fatty, and the other ingredients were not tasty. My suggestion: If you're going to say you make great margaritas, use fresh lime juice, not a mix. Also, stop with the 20+ varieties of margaritas until you perfect the basic margarita of 2 ounces tequila, one ounce triple sec, and one ounce of fresh squeezed lime juice. read more

Authentic Tex-mex food with a decent take on Loco Moco. Service is friendly, Alejandra is a sweetheart! Love the open windows, it's like eating outside with rain protection. Nice to have TV's with sports to watch. This review is for breakfast, but we did also eat lunch here. My husband had the avocado toast as there weren't a whole lot of vegan offerings. It was okay, but would have preferred the guacamole they served for lunch. My son and I had Loco moco, which was very tasty. I had mine with scrambled eggs and my son ordered sunny side up, which came more as over medium. ‍ still delicious. The coffee was great!! Definitely a little pricey but most places are on the island. That being said, pricing was on or with other places. We will definitely be back! read more

I don't usually give bad reviews but after several visits to Mariachi's, the experience has been slipping steadily downhill. I am giving it two stars for the location (open air out to Kapa'a's busy old town) and their happy hour ceviche. They have happy hour margaritas at $6, nothing special (but they are only $6 on Kauai!) However, despite visiting during happy hour and ordering off of the HH menu our server brought out two different margaritas. Mine was the standard $6 HH version but my partner's was obviously larger and fancier. When we asked why the difference we were told that he had ordered the $10 Paloma Margarita, (he hadn't.) Our server took it back and I watched him pour it out in the sink! I hate to see liquor wasted like that. The HH ceviche at $9 is very good, the rest of their Mexican food is pretty "meh." We won't likely go back again. Try either El Rey Del Mar or El Taco Feliz (both are food trucks in Kapa'a) and bring your own cervezas. read more

Wow! 5 stars. We were visiting Kaua'i for my birthday and came here for dinner. My boyfriend got the steak fajitas and I got the beef enchilada. The steak was flavored perfectly! My enchilada was great too. We also got the guacamole and it was very fresh. I would 100% come back here. We thought about going back the next day but wanted to explore more restaurants. Not a fan. Ordered the nachos and they looked and tasted like Taco Bell. Chips, beans, a little beef and cheese and a thimbleful of guacamole for $22. No tomatoes or onion or jalapeno. 3 person walk-in "foodies" at 2:30 pm Cinco de Mayo. We all have different preferences but know a good or bad meal when we try it. We were acknowledged immediately and told it might be a wait. Less than 5 minutes later we we were seated in an open air window table with house and special menus. We received well-prepared meals that arrived much faster than we expected. All 3 were beautifully plated and tasty. Service was attentive and friendly, better than expected considering the crush of diners. The stand out of the meal was the specially featured ceviche. It was OUTSTANDING! A mix of fish, squid, shrimp and I'm not quite sure what else, but it resulted in a light pink, smooth and satisfying taste that delighted each of us. By far the best ceviche any of us have tasted. A once in a lifetime experience ceviche. I know where I'll be next Cinco de Mayo. Hoping to see it on the menu! read more

I'm really surprised at the poor reviews. We must have gone on a good day, because we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was hot, presented beautifully, and delicious.
