First off, the baby gem "caesar" salad is to die for. I would die for this salad. Marigold is a gem. We were visiting from out of town and came in on a busy Friday night and sat at the bar after a long day of travel. Loved the ambiance; cozy, chic, intentional and hip. A table opened up, but we opted for the intimate bar setting with Amy (the bartender) and enjoyed the view of the exposed brick walls and original wallpaper above. In addition to the salad, the marinated olives were the best I've had. The cantaloupe with ubriaco was an unexpected delight... and the burrata on corn, mind blown again. We barely saved room for the the rigatoni, which exceeded all pasta expectations. We finished our meal with the panna cotta, which was the cherry on bottom ;) I wish Marigold would transplant to Pasadena! read more

If you want delicious food, come to Lyons. We enjoyed the best meal at Marigold this evening. They've only been open 3 weeks, but every part of our meal was excellent. Service was attentive and their prices are reasonable. Cocktails were tasty and all the wine thoughtfully chosen. Also, all wine is available by the glass, which I love. Meal highlights included their take on Caesar salad, homemade potato chips and dip for starters. Their homemade pasta was excellent as were the "fall off the bones" pork ribs. But honestly everything was exceptional. This is a gem and a restaurant not to be missed. It's small, so make a reservation or try to snag a seat at the bar. We will be back! read more

Every aspect of our experience at Marigold exceeded our expectations! The weather was favorable to sit outside. Despite the traffic moving through Lyons, we loved the ambiance and charm of the vibe along the sidewalk, admiring the stone buildings as the sun set behind the hill. Our waiter, Jason, did a marvelous job, had perfect timing and great recommendations. After some very unique appetizers, we enjoyed our main course. I had the Monk fish, my wife had the Campanelle and both were amazing! Glad to know about this gem and will return soon! read more

The memory I left with is different from the memory that lingers on... TEN DOLLARS ($10) for a quarter of a round piece (4-5 tapering slices) of a pretty delicious, but not "out of the ordinary or outstanding" bread with a towering dollop of whipped butter. Ten dollars for bread that most restaurants do not charge for, especially considering that this is a $$$$ place, that, is the only thing I found memorable and I am confused. That said, I enjoyed the brick-flattened chicken; it was tender, perfectly seasoned over beets and carrots with a dairy sauce, and flat! My father enjoyed the rigatoni which he kept commenting upon because of the size of the noodles and that it was spicy-hot. He ate almost all of it! I took home the leftovers and they didn't last long. (And yes, it is assertive with heat). The brandade, with blue crab, salt cod, potatoes, a poached egg and 2 wide triangles of thick buttery bread, was tasty but unusual to my non-cultured palate. I keep wondering why it's being served with bread, to dip, not something else. I guess it's probably a traditional winter recipe in a potato loving country. I regretted purchasing the bread. Marigold has a cute Main Street storefront next to a real estate office. It's cozy, white wood, natural wood, green, gold, decorated for Christmas. I can't stop looking up a the several gold/brass metal chandeliers with frosted glass hanging from a tall, white ceiling . Inside, a long wooden serving table with nuts and olives for "starters" (they charge for that as well), is out in the open from where they serve you. Old style European practice? The first thing you notice is the bar area (maybe they should really only charge the bar customers for their nuts, olives and bread). I didn't see any bar patrons tonight. To the right and left of the bar are the smallest and closest dining tables I've ever sat in. I don't know if it's that way so that a group of friends could sit closer together; I would have been very, very uncomfortable talking about anything but the weather and even then you'd have someone next to you giving you an ameteur weather forecast. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, and perhaps it was strategic as no one ever sat at the empty tables next to us. The establishment is small and so were the tables; we spent a lot of time playing "musical plates"; keep the candle away from the wine! My choice of highlight of the evening has to be our waiter... he was knowledgeable, accurate, attentive, human-natured and humorous. Excellent! So I'm a little mixed in thoughts, but I did have a very nice meal. And it was memorable. read more

I can't explain how disappointed my friend and I were at Marigold. When we arrived, we were greeted with a rude pointing gesture to our table, which was sticky and unclean. We waited a long time for service. Having placed our orders, my friend finished her salad 5 minutes before mine even arrived. No apologies or explanations. Then the steak was absolutely raw although the order was for medium rare. We were afraid to send it for additional cooking because the waiter was so dismissive and arrogant. We had heard good things about the restaurant and the ambiance looks inviting from outside but it is the last time we'll go there. Patron beware. read more

I visited recently on Father's Day. The food we got was absolutely awful and inedible. No straw in our drinks.

3 out of our 4 appetizer/mains were significantly over salted - it takes a lot for my husband to say this, as he LOVES salt. The 'soft egg' on our salad was so undercooked that the white was liquidy and didn't even hold together. I had to send my pasta back because it was markedly on the wrong side of al dente. Our server was a bit slammed and didn't have time to check back with us after serving the mains, and we had to wait 10-15 minutes for her to come back; then said she would have to 'ask Chef' if he would re-fire my dish. I guess he decided I wasn't a Philistine (a lá the great food movie 'Big Night') and agreed to do so. Meanwhile, my husband's dish got cold as he waited for mine to come back. I don't remember an apology for the undercooked pasta. If the dish hadn't cost $28 I probably would have just chewed through it, but at that price , especially for the small portion size, it needed to be right. The farinata was interesting and delicious. The coconut rum cake for dessert was thick and claggy and oddly textured with all the grated coconut in it. The raspberry syrup could have saved it, but there was not nearly enough of it, so we had to leave half of the dry cake on the plate. All in all, it was disappointing to spend so much money on a meal that had so many issues. read more

I have never been so rudely treated at a restaurant my whole life. I'm from NY but now live in Hawaii and was there with a lahaina lawmaker and fire victim to help heal and learn about the recovery efforts in CO (Marshall fire and Lyon flood) and it seems the vultures came in, took the land, and enabled this establishment for the newbie "glitterati" of the area. They made us sit at the bar despite plenty of tables; and then they asked us to move again. I watched them serve everyone else and ignore us every time we tried to get their attention. I asked them what they recommended and they said the "skate". Gross. I think they were trying to dupe us. The native Hawaiians don't eat skate - they would have figured it out if it's good over the centuries. And in no way it'd be fresh - in middle of landlocked CO. I think they treated me bad because I'm brown. But I'm also a licensed attorney and successful business woman and my money is just as good. We learned A LOT from the visit on what to avoid in the recovery of lahaina. These people were Disgusting, rude, and racist! read more

This has a lot of potential, but there are some details that are missing. The chef very much understands flavors and wonderful combinations of ingredients, but the cookery was off on many of our dishes. We ordered the steak entree and it arrived under-seasoned and very rare, medium-rare on the edges and very raw elsewhere. If the service wasn't so slammed (we were informed of multiple "communication errors" in the kitchen which resulted in our mains coming out 30m late; we were comped a Caesar salad in fairness for the long wait) we would have asked for the dish to be re-fired. We had the bucatini and the pasta was undercooked, far too toothsome. Seems the food was rushed out due to the kitchen errors, or else it is not being checked at the pass. All that said, the non-steak dishes had great flavor, seafood items were beautifully prepared. Desserts were very good. For $100 a head and a James Beard nominated chef, I expect better attention to detail and execution. Get it right and you'll have one of the best restaurants in the state. read more

to begin with, our waiter was arrogant and condescending. He did not really know about the food and he acted like we were idiots for asking about several of the appetizers and entrees. The swordfish was cut very thin and was tasteless. the only flavor was the topping. The burrata was bland and skimpy after the waiter talked it up as incredible. Additionally, the waiter did not ask the women in our party what they wanted for wine with their entree, only the men. When asked why he said " I was waiting for them to ask" even though he brought the men samples of wine without being asked. The desserts were less than stellar, the cannolI being essentially sugar free and flavorless. The pannicota was equally underwhelming. The bolognese was good although not particularly warm. Overall, I would say the food was okay although seriously expensive and the service was awful. Will not go back. read more

My family and I stayed in town for a couple of days while on vacation and found Marigold the first night in town. What an absolutely fantastic gem, everything that we tried was absolutely delicious and the attention from the staff was world-class. We ended up eating all three nights and it has become a destination restaurant of choice anytime we are in the area. read more

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. and I like to dine out. Found on the last "main" block of the tiny town of Lyons, CO, I feel sad about how many people drive by on their way Estes Park not knowing about this gem! But yay for us in the know! If you read this as a tourist, make a reservation and time to stop. The ceilings are high in the restaurant (I'm told that the space was part of an old hotel?) which makes for an airy and open atmosphere even though the footprint is small. It is comfortable, has a great bar, and boasts outdoor tables when the weather is good. The menu is a la carte with a mix of options including in-season vegetables, cheeses, and/or meats as appetizers, pastas, and "mains" like a 1/2 chicken or NY strip. Vegan and vegetarian options of course! It's Lyons, CO. I absolutely love the chef's take on the Caesar salad. I've had all the meat and pasta dishes. Nothing disappoints. Cooked right, excellent flavors, served hot. People dining here often like to share. The serving sizes of all items are perfect for sharing or for a hungry individual. Price to size to deliciousness seems fair (full disclosure, if the food is good, I don't care about "how much," quality is more important to me than quantity. This restaurant seems to manage both well). The wine list is extensive. The cocktail list is classic. I've always adored the staff. Good at their job and not pretentious. I feel like everyone knows it's a great restaurant ... that is also in a town known for having a laidback lifestyle, a stellar music scene, and is a gateway to rocky mountain outdoor adventure. Such a vibe makes for a calm and down to Earth dining experience that boasts the food experience of a fancier, more stuck up city. read more

I've had the pleasure of dining at Marigold several times over the past year and always found the food delicious. My meal last night was truly outstanding - the agretti fun and tasty, morels decadent, farinati yummo, bucatini with crab addition out of this world divine, and rum cake with passion fruit ridiculous. Marigold is a wonderful restaurant, great addition to the local (Lyons, Longmont, Niwot, Boulder) food scene and if you do not live in Lyons well worth a drive. The food is creative but accessible, a wonderful fusion of italian and french influences. The menu is thoughtful, the balance of flavors in the dishes stupendous, and service and atmosphere very, very nice. We enjoyed the olives, bread and cantaloupe for appetizers - really delicious. The olives were a wonderful mix of varieties, flavors and seasonings. The bread was light and crusty with fabulous whipped butter and the cantaloup with hazelnuts, basil was so refreshing. For dinner we had the cod with potatoes - OMG delicate yet so flavorful and satisfying - and the hanger steak also clean your plate stupendous. We had panna cotta - melt in your mouth creamy with an amazing peach compote on top - and cannoli - real ricotta cannoli with a crunchy shell, creamy but not too sweet filing and the incredible addition of cherries - just wonderful. Wine, cocktails and mocktail were great too. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly! read more
