Ordered food to go. Hummus, crab cake, fish tacos, chicken shawarma plate and Baklava. I was really excited about the food since I've only heard great things. The hummus was really good with a nice presentation with a tomato, olive and cucumber. The crab cake was good with a hint of spice flavor. The fish tacos were a disappointment though, fishy tasting and really dry and the corn tortilla was really dry tasting like it was sitting out or something. The chicken shawarma plate was a little dry and tasted more like Indian food but still had a decent flavor. The rice and salad that it came with was really good though. The baklava was a little dry nothing compared to Mammas Hummus in Newbury park. The menu was wrong on their website and the person who took our order was really rude and abrupt. Luckily the lady that walked in and assisted me afterwards was extremely nice and apologetic. Wonderful customer service from her and another man even offered to carry all the food to my car. Went on yelp to find some food and saw this place had a great rating. Walked in and was greeted by Kelly, the sweetest server who really made my moms b-day lunch so special. Even the owner Marilyn was amazing. On top of impeccable service the food was phenomenal. It was all so fresh and flavorful. Wish I took a picture of the chicken shawarma and fish and garlic fries, but we devour it on the spot. We left overly satisfied and will definitely be coming back! Came here 7 days ago for Dinner Date, Both tried out new restaurant and although I was satisfied with my yummy shrimp pasta.... someone else was not a fan of the smoked salmon salad. With that said, probably asking why the five stars?? I tasted the Salmon was Delicious but it was on the cold side given was part of the salad. Wish I took a pic was pretty salad anyways I like sushi so the taste, texture did not bother me others prefer more cooked or warmer. Originally I offer switch plates and refused on his behalf he ate part of it and " mama " owner of the restaurant came out with a new beef dish and rice so he can leave more content and full belly! The food here was absolutely delicious. I ordered the seafood entree. I had my choice of fish and sides. I picked the halibut with vegetables and french fries. The fish was a hardy portion that was perfectly seasoned and the fries were delisiously crispy. The vegetables were nicely seasoned . I have a garlic allergy and everyone , from the waitress, to the cooks, and even the owner were very accommodating to this. My husband ordered the ceviche and the fish tacos and said they were both delicious. We also got a chicken kabob to go and he said it was some of the best prepared chicken he has ever had. You know, its too bad when a place has such good food, and has the ambiance of a takeout place. Sure there are tables and a drinks menu but its so plain and "cold" inside, and the kitchen, which is behind a pony wall, is so loud that its no wonder that they did a good takeout business tonight but almost no dine in customers besides us. Checked yelp for a restaurant in the area and noticed the good ratings and comments. Very happy that we did. This restaurant is in a fairly nondescript strip mall so it would be difficult to see. However, it seems to have many loyal customers and a steady flow of business. Evidently the owners of the restaurant either own or are affiliated with a fresh seafood shop next-door. Obviously their seafood is both fresh and they have a wide variety of dishes. This is not a fancy restaurant but very clean and presentable. The staff are friendly and eager to please. The reason it is so popular, I am sure, is because the food is outstanding. We had both a Mediterranean dish as well as fish tacos which were the best I have ever had. Our favorite restaurant is expanding and is closed at the moment for renovation. So, we decided to try Marilyns and it was good, but not as good as our favorite restaurant. We ordered the baklava and I'm sorry to say, it was terrible! It was hard and dried out and isn't light and flaky as it's competitor and it's not cheap! It's $5!!!! Looking for a quick lunch and found this place based on Yelp reviews. Our experience was entirely underwhelming. Our beef and chicken shawarma lunch specials was an oily pile of oddly-seasoned meat, one pita cut into quarters, green salad, and tasteless hummus. The portion size was good and the salad/dressing was decent (for a lunch special plate), but this didn't make up for the lack of authenticity or inspiration in the food. I had high hopes for Marilyn's after reading the reviews. I found the food to be hit and miss after visiting for a lunch then later in the week for dinner. Lunch for me was a cup of clam chowder and Ahi tuna salad. My daughter had the crab cakes and beef shawarma with rice and hummus. - The clam chowder was just ok for being homemade - The salad dressing was good but the tuna presentation was lacking as quarter sized pieces flesh were strewn about and not seared as advertised - The crab cakes were bad, the flat thin shape is all wrong with too much breading/deep fry oil, the delicate flavor of crab was completely lost. It could have been tofu and I wouldn't have known. - The beef shawarma a little on the tough side. I thought the flavor was ok, but my daughter preferred Ali Baba's. - The rice and hummus good I thought I'd give it another try for dinner thinking maybe the evening chef was better. More hit and miss with this meal too. This time it was clams in tomato base, ceviche, lamb and beef kabobs and beef gyro with hummus, Greek salad, rice and vegetables. - Clams were a bit tough from either the size or over cooking. Flavor was good - ceviche I thought was good but my wife didn't care for it - Greek salad was the best thing we ate. The dressing was fantastic. (would love the recipe) - lamb was ok, just overcooked (requested medium) - The beef kabob was tough, overcooked (requested medium rare), my wife couldn't finish eating some pieces after chewing for a while. - The gyro plate was tasty when combined with the pita and tzatziki. - Rice and hummus were good - The vegetables were so over cooked I could easily mash them and did with my fork. The people that gave good reviews either had never tried authentic middle eastern food, or there is something wrong with their taste buds. The food is very badly marinated. I got sick for 4 hours after eating here. I strongly suggest you try real authentic mediterranean food before you eat here. You will see the difference. Hummus is great, fish and chips not on the menu but they make it for you. Used to have a hard time getting the hubby to Mediterranean restaurants but he always says yes to Marilyns.
