I don't recommend this place at all, over priced they charged me 140$ to get my jacket tailored, and they didn't do a good job and they had to keep it for an extra 3 days to fix one of the sleeves as it was so tight, eventually when I went to pick it up it was all wrinkly and dirty and was full of small pieces of strings, didn't even spend few bucks on getting my Jacket dry cleaned and ironed, terrible experience.! read more

I found Marin Tailor on Yelp. My dumb butt bought a bridesmaid dress 2 sizes too small, and they were able to take fabric (VERY VERY SUBTLY) from other areas and let it out. I owe them so much. They were so nice, quick, and did amazing work. You couldn't even tell. It did cost me a pretty penny, but it was my own fault. I will go to them in the future when I need alterations. AMAZING! I'm very happy that I tried these guys out! I brought some suit pants in to be hemmed, tapered and have a seam fixed. I didn't feel pressured to make any changes I didn't want, they listened to what I was looking for and made some suggestions on what would look good. I was in and out in about 5 minutes, and when I came back to pick my pants up they looked great!! I had a bad experience here when getting a pair of jeans hemmed here. I asked for an original hem and when I came to pick up the jeans, the hem was completely different. When I pointed it out, the tailor tried to convince me that it was the same. Unfortunately the jeans are now cut too short to repair the damage. I will not be coming here again. read more

I've been to a number of alteration spots in LA and this is by far the best alteration spot yet. Diego has a great eye for alterations and gets the job done quick! I have been going to Marin Tailor Shop for nearly two years. The thing I like about Diego is that he is not only pleasant to work with, but he is also committed to doing quality work. Everything I have gotten back has been on-time, and looked great. I used to go to another tailor, but he was quite far away, and, sadly, he is getting older, so I wanted to have options -- particularly since I am very loyal, once I find someone who is great. Diego did not disappoint. The dude is young, hip, smart, and honest. Diego won't sell you something that he thinks won't work. I have been in his shop twice when guys have come in, wanting to tailor either pants, or shirts that had reached the end of their wear ("life"). Having trimmed down lately, I can related to the challenge of "letting go" when it comes to old clothes. Diego could have easily made money, but he kindly suggested options --- while, respectfully -- and professionally -- leaving the decision in his customers' hands: He always states that he would do whatever the customer wants, but in "my professional opinion. . ." I ordered a custom-tailored Halloween costume off eBay and, perhaps unsurprisingly, it arrived with a poor fit. Marin Tailor Shop made it look GREAT on me, and you can't tell there was any alteration on the seams. I'm not familiar with pricing for alterations in general, but they took in the sides and sleeves/shoulders for $50. The work was excellent so I feel it was reasonable. Parking is metered in front, but look for the 1-hour parking on residential streets around the corner. read more

After reading these reviews I was ready to bring my slacks here to be altered, but I decided to call first and see how much they charge per pair. The person who answered the phone spoke broken english and could not answer my question. She said her boss was gone and asked me to call back in 5 minutes. At this juncture, I would like to make two suggestions: 1) Make sure your employees can answer the customers questions or 2) Have them offer to take a message and give them a call back. This place is fantastic! I feel like if you're going to do something, get it done the proper way. Diego does just that. I have finally found my personal tailor just like everyone has their own barber; a tailor is no exception. I have brought almost all my business attire and suits to this man and he has changed my life. My clothes now fit superb; it's almost like I bought brand new clothes. If you're hesitant, I recommend you bringing a single item there and see how the work is. I came Marin Tailor Shop to get a bridesmaid's dress altered. They did a fabulous job! The bust needed to be taken in a lot and also the dress need to be hemmed. It was $25 for each alteration, so at $50 total it was a steal--especially since the dress had a few layers and a structured bust. When I came in for a second fitting they already had the dress waiting for me in the fitting room and were very prompt on getting the alterations done in a timely manner. Not wanting to look like an insurance salesman at my friend's wedding, I decided to bring my new Kenneth Cole 'Reaction' suit (bought on the cheap) to Marin. Diego, the friendly proprietor there, measured me, suggested we shorten one of the jacket sleeves (apparently one of my arms is longer than the other?), adjust the waist, and bring up the legs. He then gave me an ETA. I told him the wedding wasn't for another month so he didn't need to sweat it. A couple of days before the scheduled pickup date, Diego called and asked if I could wait an extra day or two as they'd recently had an influx of work. I told him it wasn't an issue. He thanked me and he gave me a new date. When I went in to try on the altered suit, everything we spoke about was done to spec. However, I decided I wanted the legs to be more tapered because, for whatever reason, the 'Reaction' slim fit pants are shaped like a Levis boot cut. Diego said he also wanted to make an additional adjustment to the sleeve. (What the hell is wrong with my arm?) I was given another pickup date a few days away. I went in for the next fitting and the suit looked slick. Like Don Draper slick. (Except for the damn color.) Upon checkout, Diego not only didn't charge me for the sleeve adjustment (which he told me he wouldn't), but he also didn't charge me for tapering the legs, which would have been an extra $50+. I assume this is because I was flexible with the date, but Diego didn't say a word about it. He just smiled, nodded, and thanked me for my business. Total Don Draper move. (I've actually never seen the show.) At the wedding, my suit really shined. At one point, I was standing next to the bride's brother and the groom asked if we bought the exact same suit. I'm not sure what his was -- something with 'g' and 'ironi' in it -- but considering his Burberry tie cost more than the totality of my 'Reaction' ensemble, I'd say I got quite the compliment. And I give Diego all of the credit. Despite the color, I've decided to keep the suit around. Fingers crossed it doesn't disintegrate at the dry cleaners. read more

So I had this idea getting Married in a white tuxedo jacket with black lapels. I searched all over town and couldn't finally came across something close but it didn't have black lapels. I brought the jacket to Marin Tailor to see if they could some how add black satin lapels to the jacket I brought. The Pros at Marin advised against modifying the jacket even though there was nothing in it for them. I still wanted the white jacket with black lapels so I figured I try my luck online. I finally came across the jacket on Gilt.com, but I knew that the FIT would be a gamble. Well I lost that bet but I took the jacket to the guys at Marin Tailor and they Nailed it! I had bought a new suit and brought it here to be tailored. I didn't know exactly what needed to be done, but I just knew the suit could look better. Alex (I believe was his name) was very helpful in pointing out what could be done to the suit but was not at all pushy in suggesting expensive alterations. In the end, I had the pants hemmed and the sleeves shortened and was pleased with the quality and the price ($55 total). I brought in the suit on a Monday, and it was ready by that Thursday.
