If I could give zero stars I would. We live down the street and have given them business the last time when I called the woman was extremely rude on the phone. When I go to pick up the order it was short one item. They asked me to wait but the whole meaning of calling ahead is I order not to wait especially when I have a 5 month old with me. We found them one day and really enjoyed their pizza but over the past decade and a half they have never failed to make a great dish - from their hero sandwiches to their pasta and of course pizza. Growing up Italian, I hardly went to Italian restaurants because why would you bother if your mom made the best meatballs this side of the Atlantic? But Mario's has been a favorite of mine for years. DO NOT go there! Food is not fresh or good! I had the worst experience with the owner. We used them a lot for take out lunch for office meetings. Three times a month for a couple of years. I had a small problem and mentioned it to the delivery guys, they said call and speak to the owner (adding-good luck) She was the rudest person I have ever spoken to. I told her about all the business we had done with them and she said she could care less. Wow, talk about attitude. After speaking with several other offices they had the same problem with her. This place was a great stop on a long trip. The food was AMAZING we got the pizza, mozzarella sticks, and salad to split among our family of 5. The mozzarella sticks were well made and he sauce was great.. the pizza was cheesy and crusty SO good. There was a large variety on the menu and the service was average. Very disappointed in this place. I used to come here with my parents years ago and enjoy it. I went with a couple of co-workers for lunch on a snowy day. First, it is not owned by Italians, most likely Albanians who all sit at a table and look at you like you shouldn't be there. After some decent soup and a cheaply made salad, I received my tomato basil pasta with meatballs. The sauce was pretty watery, but the taste was okay. I cut into a meatball, and a long jagged piece of thick aluminum foil was inside of the meatball. It reminded me of the razor blade in candy apple myths. I gave them back to the waitress, and refused to get a different batch of meatballs. The waitress apologized, but didn't take anything off the bill, not even offer a coffee or dessert on the house for something that could have sliced my intestines up. I'll never go back there again after that. read more

I have been eating their pizza since I was a kid. So good! My favorites are the sausage and the bacon! Nice crust, not too thick or too thin and a good sauce! Pretty small place though so it can get crowded and the parking lot could be bigger. read more

The service was horrible. The waitress didn't introduce herself and when she brought our drinks she spilled it all over the table drenching 3 people . She mumbled an apology. The food was lacking flavor and not worth the prices. The servers were texting and joking around infront of people. In addition the atmosphere wasn't great. It smelled bad, it seemed dirty and old. Last night my fiancé's sister joined us for dinner here. She lives out in the Midwest and misses GOOD Italian food and pizza! We started off with the hot antipasto: clams casino, mussels in garlic/wine sauce, shrimp, and fried mozzarella....and dinner was our usual large half pepperoni, half cheese pizza....I enjoyed a Caesar salad with grilled chicken (yummy) and had a slice of pepperoni. His sister enjoyed the pizza immensely, she even wanted the leftovers sent back home! Dessert....we all split a cannoli. Good size, enough for everyone to enjoy. I haven't had a cannoli in ages and this one was delicious! May I add that if you order a large ice water as I did, you get a carafe of ice water so you can refill at your leisure? Great idea! Our waitress was terrific, can't recall her name but she was great! Quiet for a Sunday night when we were there but it was okay as it was a holiday weekend. I just may get the grilled chicken in the Caesar salad next time we get take-out :) read more

It's hard to come by New York style pizza in Connecticut, we're so happy we found this place,especially so close to Trumbull. It's not Napoletana style like Pepe's, it's more like that pizza by the slice style. Would like to try some real entrees from here. read more

Went with family on a Saturday night,it was busy..waited 15 mins for table, which was ok.sat down,no water,no bread,no waitress for another 15 mins,finally ordered,salad and bread came out quickly,but no drinks for another 10 mins..main courses came out about 25 mins later,wife had stuffed shells that came to table cold, I had veal park that came with undercooked ziti,kid had a pasta dish that was also Luke warm..disappointed with this place,and won't be going back.. read more

we ate at Mario about once a month, I always ordered the shrimp, scallop, broccoli rabe and cavatelli special, the most expansive item on menu. Tonight the dish came out with small pieces of cut up shrimp, and scallops were cut in half too. When I asked the waitress she told me I am getting the same amount of seafood the chief just cut them into smaller pieces. I would have accepted it if she tell me instead of raising the price they did this thinking no one will notice. But don't insult me, I know I am not getting the same amount of seafood. Think about it if you are the chief why would you cut up big jumbo shrimps and scallops into smaller pieces, I will not go back, they lost a good paying customer. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try this restaurant because it has such good reviews. We were very disappointed, however. We went on a Monday before the dinner rush and when we walked in the waitress looked at us like we shouldn't even be there. We received terrible service from her the entire time. We were her only customers and she paid no attention to us, preferring to have her face buried in her cell phone. I had to call her over twice to ask for the check and a box. On top of the poor service, the food was mediocre and the cooks messed up our order, giving us a red pizza instead of the white pizza we ordered. The pizza crust was soggy and the "hot Italian sausages" i ordered as a side were bland. Big Y hot Italian sausages from a package are better, frankly. The whole experience was pretty bad but the worst thing? The most unacceptable, egregious offense? THEY DON'T HAVE FREE SODA REFILLS!!! We spent $2.00 each on a soda and it came in a very small glass that not even a can of soda would fit in and then wouldn't give us free refills. I mean really, what kind of place these days doesn't offer free refills? Needless to say we won't be going there again. read more
