First time here and ive been missing out. Ordered 1 pizza, 2 main course, 2 appetizers and 3 desserts and all of them are amazing! Great service too! Ambiance is ok. Servers are all nice and their ravioli is amazing! Will go back here again soon. My only issue is hope you guys can fix the lounge chair because i was seated next to it with a sticky tape and the glue got stuck on my pants. read more

The Wild Mushroom Ravioli was fantastic! A huge thanks to the chef because the flavor was impeccable. The taste of the mushroom really popped with every bite, and you could tell that the ravioli was prepared thoroughly with intention and care. On the far end was a daily special consisting of a delicious duck ragu over pappardelle pasta. The duck was so tender, the sauce was so abundant, and the noodles had soaked up all the external flavor. Everything about this dish was perfect. Together, they became a perfect balance of flavor, leaving us very very satisfied. Plus, the service was excellent. We requested a table switch since we wanted to move to someplace indoors and the staff were quite accommodating. It's a great place to at least try once! We went to Mario's for our anniversary and everyone who reads my reviews knows that I am not pleased when the front of house sits us by the kitchen, service areas or the bathroom. This time we were seated in between all three! I would understand if there were no other seats, but the restaurant was 1/4 full and we passed several booths and tables. Every time this happens I take a star off. As far as the rest of the staff, we were greeted with a smile by the staff serving food and bread. The food, was okay. I ordered a soup starter which was bland and lukewarm. The DH's salad was good (I had a bite) and the clam pizza was very good. Overall, our dining experience was not the best. It started off not to great because the front of house chooses to place people in undesirable spaces. No reason for it. read more

I have been through most of the menu over the years and it is all excellent and authentic. For many this will be a small matter for most but not for Italians -- the bread is excellent. Although we missed the window for the batter fried squash blossoms the shashimi appetizer more than made up for it. We sat in a booth between the bar and the main dining room. Best seat in the house. The waitstaff moving seamlessly through the rooms filling water glasses and describing dishes. By the time that our waiter described the specials, I was ready for one of each! We settled on the crudo shashimi and the calamari fritti. The calamari is accompanied by a butter sauce and a tomato sauce. Unmatched in the IE. While the appetizers were being prepared, we ordered martinis. My wife had an apple martini. The other couple had Grey, goose martinis and I had sapphire Bombay with blue cheese, stuffed green olives. To prove we didn't need a second round our server, switch glasses and gave him the gin and me the vodka. We both recognized it immediately. We passed the test. I had the oxtail pasta (penne regatta). The rest of the table had the salmon. It was enjoyed by all. We finished the meal sharing cheesecakes with dark berries. Enjoyed an epic dinner with a group after work, and enjoyed every moment. As a table we shared a variety of appetizers, all of which were excellent, but I'll mention the calamari specifically as among the best I've had. I enjoyed the bucatini, a colleague's rack of lamb special looked excellent, as did the mushroom ravioli. You'll easily find something on the menu or a special that will suit your wishes. We also sampled a variety of desserts. Excellent cheesecake. They have live music on occasional Fridays, which would be an additional pleasure. I lived in Riverside for 25 years and I heard of Mario's Place from my friends and Colleagues but never attended. I finally went and experienced this excellent place! The service,presentation and quality of the restaurant were superb! This restaurant didn't compromise or cut costs to there Patrons. I ordered a large shiitake Mushroom ravioli for dinner with homemade Mozzarella cheese it was absolutely unique and delicious. It was very creamy and fulfilling. It was a great choice. My Friend ordered the Steak dinner. It was so tender and delicious that he cut it with his butter knife. We also ordered a Arugula Salad with Homemade Mozzarella with a cream sauce and thinly sliced Italian Meat. It was delicious. The salt from the meat and cream sauce was unique and great tasting to my palette. For dessert we shared the trio. It was a fun dessert. It consisted of Tangerine Sorbet, Chocolate cake and Espresso Cake. My favorite was the Tangerine Sorbet. After visiting the Mission Inn, we decided to find a place to eat. We walked across the street and saw Mario's Place. We went in and the hostess asked if we had a reservation. We told her that we did not. She said they were booked but if we could find a seat at the bar we could have dinner there. Luckily, there were two spots available. We were greeted by Adam. He was attentive, friendly, and provided us with fantastic service. PIC got his usual Jack n' coke. I selected the Le St. Germain: Absolute Pear Vodka, St. Germain, & fresh grapefruit juice. It was excellent. I love the combination of pear and elderflower. After Adam prepared our drinks, he brought us each a plate with a thick slice of sour dough bread. The butter was placed in the center and was topped with a parsley leaf. It was thoughtfully presented. The bread was good and the butter was soft and spread easily. (Cold, hard butter is annoying.) I loved the ambience of the dimly lit bar and the retro cover of the cocktail menu. We started with the Arancini Crisp Spheres of Saffron Risotto. Whenever I see Arancini (Italian rice balls) on the menu I order it. Arancini are a staple of Sicilian cuisine. Mario's specializes in Northern Italian cuisine, so I was surprised to see them listed. Bravissimo Mario! These did not disappoint. The breading was crisp on the outside and not greasy. The risotto interior was moist and flavorful with a dab of melted mozzarella in the center. They reminded me of the ones I had when I was a kid. We asked for a side of marinara sauce to dip them in. Adam said it would be a few minutes. The sauce was prepared to order. Being that I am Italian (Sicilian) I am very critical of marinara sauce. This was delicious. My PIC ordered the Grilled Revier Ranch Angus Beef Tenderloin. He said the steak was outstanding - tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. (He likes it medium.) It was topped with caramelized red onions and piled high with thinly sliced pommes frites. The presentation was impressive. I tried the pommes frites and caramelized onions and they were both scrumptious. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent and the smells coming out of the kitchen were amazing. We had a wonderful dining experience. If I'm ever in the area again I would definitely return to Mario's place. read more

If you're looking for a romantic Italian restaurant outside of the standard chain places, look no further than Mario's Place. Make a reservation ahead of time on weekends, as this place can get packed. We unfortunately didn't get a reservation in on time, but got lucky with seating at the bar and had a great view of the live music playing that night (last weekend of the month, there are live bands performing). No entree pics, as I forgot to take them (rack of lamb off menu special & Linguine Checca-- both were amazing). We also tried the roasted fingerling potatoes and a corn soup as appetizers, which were fantastic as well. This place wins for ambiance, service and food quality. read more

I don't believe the quality and taste of food can be superseded by the service. We went to Mario's last night to celebrate my mom's 91st birthday. She is a very with it 91 year old except she has trouble hearing. When Jeremiah was rattling off the specials at a rapid pace my mom asked if he could slow down because she can't hear well. He looked around the room and told her that he had 5 other tables to take care of and he was going to tell us the specials as fast as he could. My mom felt scolded. She dropped her head and was quiet. Then she told us she thought he was extremely rude. I agree. If I ever go back there I will make sure he is not our server. That's the second time I've been to Mario's and the second time I've experienced him as our server. Do better. read more

We started with a refreshing Hamachi yellowtail crudo with microgreens and gazpacho with prawns, calamari and cucumber. Our main course consisted of a clam pizza redolent with aromas of garlic and olive oil and tagliatelli bathed in shredded duck ragu, kalamata olives and shaved pecorino romano cheese. This place was excellent from the moment we walked and were greeted by a kind friendly hostess. The service was great our busser Eduardo was the best busser I've had. Our waters were always full and plates taken away promptly. That with a friendly smile was great. Our server Drew was also super friendly and great. The food was amazing and the ambiance was perfect! What a great find. We were staying at the mission inn and couldn't get a dinner reservation and I'm so glad we didn't so we found Mario's which exceeded our expectations. Mario's is amazing, always. I usually hit up their happy hour during the beginning of the week because it's not super busy and happy hour is a fantastic deal. I will say the drinks there are always worth the money regardless of happy hour or not and so is the food. Mario's is a classy place and intimate. It is by far one of my favorite places to eat here in Riverside. I have tried a range of things on their menu, all have been delicious. Byron is the bartender I am most familiar with and he makes a fantastic drink, whatever your drink of choice is he makes it well. All the bartenders are great as well as the servers. read more

We ate in a small room called the " elevator room, " there were only 5 tables. We split our dinner since we wanted side's with also. We ordered the Beef Tenderloin with shoestring potatoes on top, it was very good. We also ordered Cesar Salad which was plenty big to split. My husband also ordered the mushroom Ravioli to eat with the steak. The food was very good. Our waiter was great at checking on us and telling us all the specials. Happy hour was absolutely fantastic great recommendation of the Four Roses Old Fashioned and the Aviation martini. We called for reservations so we went to the main dining room for dinner where we ordered the minestrone soup, spaghetti bolognese and mushroom ravioli, we also had the desert special which features the hazelnut Kit Kat, salted carmel creme de pot , and frozen orange served in a literal orange ( fabulous ) . Mushroom ravioli was honestly the best Iv'e ever had and my husband enjoyed his spaghetti as per usual. So why the 4 star? The minestrone . For $21.... It's just not good . Prawns were the best part but the soup itself was lack luster and heavily lemoned. I let her know we would only need 1 bowl to try ( it's honestly too expensive for both of us to have one ) and she assumed we wanted it split. A soup? Really ? This was indicated by the $4 charge on the bill. Again , I assume this charge is for splitting entrees and not implied if a customer simply says " I'm just going to try a bite or two " . Walking down the street to this place was a delight- righty across the street from the mission inn- gorgeous to look at and magical. We were seated right away, and our server was very knowledgeable of all the food and drinks. For the appetizer I ordered the crab and avocado, the crab was so sweet and soft, along with the avocado it was a wonderful combination. I went with my girlfriends and we shared the cheese platter, the cheeses on the plate were all so different and delicious! We all really enjoyed the cheese plate. We had a good start for dinner with the appetizers- the entrees were hit and miss for a few- the mushroom ravioli Was good, the salmon my friend said was a little dry, the lamb pasta was okay. So next time we will try to order different entrees. And the last Friday of every month they have live jazz!!!! So amazing! I really lucked out being there for this event! They said they hadn't played since the pandemic, so definitely try to eat dinner around 8:30 because I believe they play around 9! Really positive experience and great ambiance! read more

My girlfriend and I were finishing our great dinner off with a couple of desserts. I ordered the panna cotta and she the trio of ICE CREAM, which was 2 coconut and salted caramel. We both thought the ice cream was icy. It had pieces of ice it in and was not creamy at all. So when our waiter came by to give us the bill we mentioned that to him. He said he would let kitchen staff know. And we thought that was the end of conversation, it was just bad ice cream. While we paid for the FULL amount of the bill, the GENERAL MANAGER, approached us and proceeded to tell us the reason why the coconut ice cream was icy was because it's sorbet and you can't get creamy consistency with coconut milk in the most DEGRADING TONE when he spoke to us. My girlfriend and I then proceeded to tell him that it is listed on the menu as ice cream and not sorbet. If we had known we would not have ordered it because she does not like sorbet. He then said, " well I like it." That's not the point! I told him again, it's wrong on your menu. As this rude conversation continued, the waiter brought us a complimentary second serving of the ice cream. The GM, in his rude tone said to the waiter, " they don't want it! Just leave it there." The waiter was confused. It was extremely awkward. At the end, it left a horrible taste in our mouth, literally. We told the waiter how he treated us over freaking ice cream that apparently is sorbet. The waiter apologized profusely saying that the GM overheard him in the kitchen asking for a another ice cream. He was like, "I'll go talk to them." This all over ice cream! Why argue with us? We did not ask for a second serving, we did not ask for $10.50 refund, we only wanted to tell you that the ice cream was not creamy! My husband asked me where I wanted to go out for dinner. And I told him Mario's place since we hadn't been back since before our summer vacation. The place was empty for a Saturday night and I wish I had known what was coming and I should have selected to be seated in a dining table, but I opted to sit at the bar. We were greeted by a very kind bartender made an amazing cocktail. And we ordered an appetizer (picture shown). We asked for the menu as we came from a distance for dinner. We ordered and we had our conversations about work and family. I was speaking to my husband about our daughter's ceramic project. (I did not know that a staff member was listening to half of the story). Turns out he listened to my husband's commentary on how it is important for her to have clean hands and nails. (She works at a coffee shop). So, he told my daughter to make sure to clean her nails since they had dark clay on nails. Logic. Right? Was my husband wrong? I mean even if some audience thinks "it's okay"? My daughter can get infected. Hello hygiene. Well, it turns out that the staff member made a comment to my husband and told him "I don't care about nails being dirty if they are cutting potatoes...". That's when my tummy got a strange feeling that this staff member did not like my husband. He looked at my husband with a very downgrading smirk. It was awful. My husband is Caucasian and I am brown. I could not believe I was in a place where this staff member was using the race card. I could not believe it because the clientele at Mario's in Riverside well you can judge the demographics on your own. It was more than an hour when we noticed our dinner was not coming in and two parties next to us were getting their meals. We were getting humiliated and gaslighted. To the point that we ordered a wine bottle for a dinner that we did not receive. The kind bartender (not the staff gentlemen) he brought us these courtesy (not good) mini drinks as a courtesy for a "misunderstanding on our order". And he was not letting us know if we were or not getting our dinner. I was broken hearted inside for how that staff member approached us. I asked if the manager would allow his guests to be told if we were or not getting our dinner. He replied " am the manager". That is when I saw his "eyes" and they looked at me like I was a nothing and to my husband he humiliated him to the point that other guests really thought we were in the wrong. If you look at the video footage you will see what this "manager" did to us and how he treated us with his so much privilege attitude and he made us feel like we did not belong there. He was never nice or never showed humbleness or kindness. And I am woman and the way he looked at me like I was nobody. Mind you I was properly dressed. I did not come with sandals or jeans. I was asking with "please" and "thank yous" all evening. If you look at the footage you will see this higher management not at all GREETFUL or KIND or WELCOMING. The gentlemen looks like he hates his job. He was not nice at all from the very beginning. And you can sense that. We work hard and we know you do too. I have my bad days at work but my coworkers or guest would never be at fault. Respect your duties don't just cancel our order because we were not your cup of tea. That was very unprofessional. I have shared this experience with our friends and families. Mario's place your team and staff minus "your manager" will always be my number one but you need to give "staff" some training on how to treat everyone from every color or social class with respect. This was my worst date night in my entire life. And some may say why the one star for one person. Well one bad apple ruins the entire environment. I cannot imagine how he treats his employees if they are not at his standards. Thank you bartender because you were a 5 star. The manager had blonde bleached hair. I really enjoyed the ambiance in this restaurant. They open for a few hours in the evening and if you have a reservation you are set to have a a wonderful enjoyable time. My daughter ordered the oxtail dish and I tried it. It was delicious and cooked to perfection. I ordered the chicken Alfredo and I enjoyed it as well along with their moscato selection of wine (I like sweet wine). We went to celebrate my parents anniversary our party of 7. The rating is for the poor service and subpar food. We waited approximately 45 minutes for pasta. Parties seated after us received their food before we did. When our food did arrive, my fiancé's pasta was undercooked. My pasta, although edible, was too salty. The red sauce tasted like it came from a can. We have had better Italian food elsewhere.
