Looking for some place different to eat? Me too, so we chose Mariposa in Neiman Marcus, Ala Moana shopping center. For starters, there were lots of parking because of the shopping center. They asked for our Covid vaccination card and ID then sat us outside. We had the option to sit in or out. It was a nice day so we chose outside seating. Besides I got to check out the surf from where I was sitting, bonus! Our waiter Blaze was really helpful and knowledgeable on their menu. We started off with the Mariposa Poke. This poke was off the chart. I could have just ate a plate of this for my lunch. My main entree was their Smoked Brisket Sandwich. The brisket was tender, then you add the sauce on the side, which kicked it up a notch. The French fries was the bomb. I love fries and these were like furikake fries. My wife had the Lobster Club. This sandwich was loaded with crab meat!! My wife was in heaven. The icing on the cake was the dessert. A macadamia nut pie, full with Mac nuts! I had to order coffee to wash it down. Worst customer service on island. I won't be returning. Not with friends, not for business, and not for Santa. We walked through two floors, even browsed the Japanese omiyage, and not a single employee offered assistance. I politely said "excuse me" to two staff members who walked right past us -- both ignored me and continued chatting with coworkers. One even looked at me and deliberately made a u-turn. When we arrived at the restaurant just before 11, it was less than half full. Servers were standing around talking, yet when we asked for a table for three (two adults and a child), the staff's reaction was dismissive. They looked at our stroller, made a face, and told us -- "per my manager's request" -- that they were "extremely busy and understaffed" and we should come back at 1:50 to put our name on the list then. Busy? The restaurant was clearly not, most of the staff was chit chatting and more of the groups appeared to be finishing their food. The message was unmistakable: families with children, or perhaps locals, are not welcome here. For a place that positions itself as a destination for dining and shopping, this exclusionary attitude is unacceptable. read more

Enjoyed our light meal of oysters, smoked salmon salad, and kahuku corn chowder here. The view is beautiful and atmosphere is airy and calm. The oysters were okay, a bit lacking for the price but the chowder was delicious and I'm a huge fan of the fresh and deliciously salmon salad. Those Maui onions yum! Since Ms S had an errand at Ala Moana, I quickly checked Open Table if there were any open tables for lunch... Yes! So we started with a round of cocktails, the Afternoon Sunset - a twist of an Aperol Spritz - for Ms S and the Brother's Sour - like a refreshing whisky sour - for me. We always start with the Hurricane Seasoned Fries - I love my fries with a mayo-based dip while Ms S is all about ketchup and the fries are always plated with the ketchup on her side and the mayo on my side. It's been years since I've wined and dined at Mariposa! They've been closed for over a year the pandemic began, and this past June they've finally reopened! With high demand of reservations via OpenTable, it was sort of difficult making a reservation for a lunch date. For now, Wednesday's are closed until further notice. This past Sunday, my friend was off the hook from being on standby, and I immediately looked online for the next available lunch slot. I was able to get a 2pm seating and we met up at Neiman Marcus. Our first steps into the restaurant, how I missed this place. High ceilings, large overhead vertical fans spinning at a slow speed, and an unobstructed Pacific Ocean and Ala Moana Beach Park million dollar view that residence at One Park Lane have bought into. It was quite a busy afternoon with families, large and smalll groups. The hostess offered lanai or indoor seating. We chose indoor because it was a hot day. Once seated, we were greeted to our waiter, Preston. We were offered their famous pop-overs with butter and chicken broth for our palates. Menu was simple with daily specials, specialty cocktails, appetizers and entrees. It took a while to make a decision on our drinks as we were catching up at first. We couldn't decide on their special drinks, so we both were in the mood for Moscow Mules! Sunday's Special Benedict of the Day were sold out which was fine. For our starter, we shared the Mariposa Poke. Fish was extremely fresh and chilled, dressed with chili soy and wasabi mayo, also loved the fresh limu on top. My friend ordered the Chilled King Crab Salad, it was a generous servings of crab meat and avocado slices. I went for a Steak Frites which was good, considering this isn't a steakhouse, but Mariposa served a decent flat iron steak. It came with home made French fries and a salad, I should have asked for second serving of fries. Customer service is top notch and all their staff create an environment that is worth your time and money! Restroom facilities within walking steps from the restaurant without having to step back into the store, they also have a designated elevator from NM's ground floor parking lot which takes you straight up to Mariposa. In a matter of time, they'll return to daily operations, serving dinner at later hours, and accommodate larger reservations for groups. read more

Our recent college graduate daughter had not yet tried a Mariposa Pop Over so we made a reservation for a Sunday Lunch in August. Reservations were a bit hard to come by so plan accordingly. Food: Of course to start you get that amazingly pillowy pop over and the little cup of rich and savory chicken broth (or consommé if you are fancy). That pop over is dangerous as they will provide an additional one if you finish off your original..I could just eat that! Since it was lunch we decided to skip the cocktails this time and ordered a King Crab Salad, Seared Ahi Salad, and a Lobster Club. Each dish was generously portioned, presented well, and tasted great. Finished off with a slice of decadent pie..who doesn't order pie after eating a salad right? Service: Solid service, attentive, friendly, checked on our table often and kept our glasses filled. Bonus for spotting me finishing up my pop over and offering a me a second. I was taught it was impolite to decline when offered so I blame my upbringing for scarfing down that second pastry! Atmosphere: Located on Level 3 of Neiman Marcus, it's a bright, airy, restaurant where diners can choose to sit indoors or out on the lanai. It was a bit warm on this summer day so we choose to sit indoors but I can imagine cocktails on the lanai during sunset would be quite relaxing. Value: I struggle with this one, it is pricey but then again to be fair we did order probably the most expensive items on the menu. Food was solid, portions were generous, service was spot on but you do pay a price for it! What?! How does Mariposa only have 3.5 stars? I have reviewed before because my mom and I love having lunch here. The setting is spectacular with sweeping views over Magic island and the ocean. The decor is lovely with ceiling fans and very open. This time we enjoyed the chef's special of lightly seared ahi with fresh green veggies - it was spectacular!!! The island side salad includes tons of avocado, grated beets and a diving dressing. And please we must never forget the fabulous popovers and strawberry butter and small cup on chicken consommer included in every meal!! We had a terrific server. I love Mariposa!!! read more

I appreciated that the wait staff were quick to replenish the popover, but I didn't really enjoy it. Surprisingly, though, our water glasses were never refilled. The pork chop wasn't tender. It was my first time, but my friends dine here often, and it seemed like none of us were really happy with our choices. The waiter was nice, but honestly, a bit over the top with his service. With the restaurant being a big outdoor covered patio in the third floor, it is very cool and breezy, with amazing views on Ala Moana beach park. It was a perfect setting for dinner with my family. We went on a Wednesday and they had live music playing next to the bar. It was loud if you're on that side of the restaurant, so keep that in mind if you care how loud it is. Overall, service was great. All the workers were super friendly and made our experience enjoyable. They were always walking around making sure we were taken care of, and the hot bread basket that went around was nice too. The food here was very delicious. The waiter said they're good as shareable but we felt it was better as individual meals than as shareable, but we made due with it. Regardless, I would definitely go again and try to get seat on the actual patio. Pro tip: Hilton Hawaiian villages has a firework show every Friday around 7 and they have the perfect view from the patio of the show. read more

I've been to Mariposa many times over the years for impromptu lunches, business meetings, pau hana fun. . .even goodbye parties and galas. I was so sad to see the recent changes. The staff, as always, were spectacular. The popovers still come with the whipped butter and are handed out without hesitation by the same friendly servers. The menu and the food changes are awful. I arrived with my boyfriend and two friends for an early dinner around 5 pm. We were celebrating and catching up before the UH game. We went to the website and looked at what we were planning to order, but were shocked when the new menus were handed out. These menus were not the same ones on the website. First, the size of the menu, hardly overwhelming to begin with, has been whittled down to maybe a dozen items. A few salads with two options to add a piece of salmon or a piece of chicken. One person in my party was so confused, she thought the side protein order was an entree and asked what it came with. There was then a choice between risotto, a whole fish and something else. I was completely perplexed. The whole fish was described as coming with pickles and some sort of Vietnamese vinaigrette. . .there was a cheeseburger and a chicken sandwich. That's it. Two of the items on the menu of 12 included truffle. I hate truffle, so I went with a house salad and salmon. One friend did the same. My boyfriend and another person in our party got the fish. The fish looked awful. It was a whole fish, supposedly seared, but it looked unappetizing and flaccid, with a tiny cup of pickled onions and another cup of what looked like herb sauce. No sides. No starch. Nothing. Is this Hawaii or what? The two guys asked if they could have two sides of rice. The poor server said, she would have to ask the new chef who just "revised" the menu two weeks ago. The chef said no. So, they guys, desperate to wash the taste of the fish down, decided to order the risotto. They ate about four spoonfuls. The salmon was fine. The green salad was fine. My coffee at the end was the best part of the meal. Our friends took us out here and they spent an insane amount of money on two salads and two boiled fish along with a couple of desserts and coffee. I am not sure who the new menu was designed for, but I can tell you that it definitely does not have local people in mind. I'm not even sure if it has visitors in mind. There seems to be no synergy, presentation, variety, or thought to what is being served. I used to go for the crab salad, the beautiful consomme starter, fabulous fries, magnificent ochazuke. . .and even the tasty seafood curry. I came for the view, the music, the popovers, the service. More than anything, this change makes me sad. I mourn the time that I had and know I will never eat here again. read more

Turned out new chef there, has completely changed the menu, no more shrimp, lobster, crab dishes - still had the pop overs, corn chowder and even the burger but that was it. Had an 12:15pm appointment arrived at 11:59am wasn't seat until after complaining that people who arrive after were seated 12:24pm. Also they were seated in better seats as you can see with the wall? So you place handicap and elderly out of sight of the rest of the room there were many tables open in plain sight in the middle of the room but ended up near the restroom? Poor service by front desk especially when you have three people up there which could be helping out with serving tables if it's that busy... They have an appetizer cream of corn soup but sorry vegans, sorry vegetarians if you want anything additional. so i haven't been here since pre-covid, and my mom and i used to eat here basically every month. ever since they changed their hours, we haven't been back until today. unfortunately, it's just not the same. our server was very good! no complaints with our server. service itself was a little slow, and other tables that sat after us got their food first. didn't really bother me. food was alright. i got the wagyu cheeseburger and fries, my grandma got the chicken milanese, and my mom got the scallops. burger was mid (i've had better), chicken milanese was lowkey giving shake n bake with tomato sauce, and the scallops were okay. they also changed their bread rolls which i wasn't really a fan of. BUT their cookies are gonna EAT DOWNNNN every time!! OKAY, i booked at 1:45 reservation on OpenTable SOLELY for the reason of sitting INSIDE. girl it's october (one of the hottest months) and it's peak temperature during 1-3pm. the available times before (which i would've preferred to pick) only had outdoor seating and that was not a choice for me. we get to the restaurant, and they sit us outside smh. i told them i specifically booked indoor seating, and they said they didn't have any available and we would've had to wait 30 more minutes for an indoor table. there were a few dirty tables inside that could've been clean AND they proceeded to sit people inside like 5 minutes after we got seated outside. i had to go to the restroom mid meal just to feel some air conditioning. i am writing this in my outdoor seat. it is hot as a mf. overall, just an okay restaurant. pretty views from the outside, okay food, and decent service. not somewhere i would eat at again. read more

The view is amazing! It was a beautiful day today so we enjoyed sitting outside looking at the ocean and blue skies. I enjoyed the smoked salmon salad. My two friends didn't enjoy the special of the day which was a lobster pasta dish. They both said it was dry. One sent it back for a chopped salad instead. First thing you should know - this restaurant is inside Neiman Marcus. I got the Mariposa salad with grilled chicken and it was DELICIOUS. The view was beautiful (ala Moana beach). With the meal they also serve their Yorkshire pudding with strawberry cream cheese AND consumme (chicken stock as a palette cleanser?) and both were surprisingly good! I just had a great meal and great time at Mariposa Restaurant. We were a party of 9 and together we tried the pork chops, lobster roll, pulled pork sandwich, scallops and seafood pasta. The lobster roll was the best I have tasted and I tried my friend's pork chops which was also so tasty. Another "gotta try" is their Kahuku corn chowder. So creamy and tasty. The staff was very accomodating, our waitress, Risa put up with the rowdiest bunch celebrating birthdays and I thank her for her service and patience. I didn't get the names of the other servers but they were also so friendly and helpful. I want to go back and try their laksa curry and salmon chazuke. Also, the pastry chefs made the best desserts. The haupia cake was so light and delicious but you have got to try their cheesecake - it was the BOMB!!! Light and creamy. I am definitely going back!!! read more

We are a family of 6. We ordered a burger, a salad and 4 kids meals (spagetti and grilled cheese). I will never know why it took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get our food. Usually places get our food out right away because they understand how kids can get hangry and difficult to deal with when they are hungry. Server kept saying kitchen was backed up but other customers that came after us were getting their food. The 1 hour and 15 minutes later I expected hot, freshly made food... just the opposite. A wilted salad and the steak on the salad was not edible. The rest of the food was not good and slightly warm. At the very least an explanation of what happened would have been better from this 3 dollar sign restaurant. read more

My friend and I had a wonderful lunch at the Mariposa today. I haven't been back for a couple of years and was so glad that we did. We had the choice of being seated inside or on the veranda. The view from the veranda is beautiful as ever, but we decided to stay indoors. It was a bit humid. The popovers and chicken broth were served soon after being seated. They are still as wonderful as ever! I selected the Chopped Salad which was very tasty with cubes of watermelon and mango. My friend had the Braised Duck. She raved about it! We also shared the Mariposa poke, which was also amazing. To end the meal we went for something light, mango sorbet, very refreshing. The service was very attentive and courteous. Can't believe I've been sleeping on Mariposa for so long! Came here for the first time for lunch with a friend and the overall experience was amazing, if a bit pricey. I appreciate that they do complimentary popovers with strawberry butter + a cup of bone broth soup to start -- the popover was just okay, but the bone broth was really flavorful. We got the salmon ochazuke and laksa curry -- both came out with super short wait times and were delicious. I'm used to my laksa having more of a kick and with noodles instead of rice, but still enjoyed the creaminess and taste of the curry + all the seafood components were perfectly cooked. My friend loved the salmon ochazuke as also perfectly cooked and on point for Japanese comfort food. We split the macadamia nut tart for dessert -- crust was yummy. Especial points go to the service which is attentive without being intrusive and they were so kind to let us sit and catch up in peace without feeling rushed at all. We held my friend's bridal shower here today and everything went so smoothly. The Manager, Justin, was highly responsive and executed everything that I had requested for the party, including a very specific food order due to health restrictions, to perfection. In fact, when they delivered the food, he brought it out the dish himself. Amazing!! The service we received from Hannah and the rest of the staff at the restaurant today was above and beyond. Four stars My family and I came in just yesterday for their Sunset Lounge and we had an amazing time. From the entrance the staff was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. We made a booking for an outdoor table, which I advise reservations for since they do get very busy on weekends, and the hostess was very polite in greeting us, great hospitality. Our server was amazing, food was amazing. My husband got the ribeye and I got the smoked salmon salad and both were incredible. For dessert we got the Mac nut pie and it was divine. Exceptional service from the staff and our amazing server and exceptional food. I took away a star on the basis that later on after our meal I overheard who I assume to be a manager via the different button down aloha attire and different style name tag using harsh and foul language to the hostess who was helping us at one point. Lots of harsh F-bombs for the host that night....... Stressful night perhaps? Regardless, it definitely was hard to witness, and not what I was expecting to witness at a Neiman Marcus. That's probably the only thing keeping it from a 5 rating. Will be visiting again but we hope we don't have to witness that again. read more

Raves all around over the huge delicious salads we three had for this year's annual birthday luncheon for my wonderful, lovely two daughters-in-law whose birthdays are only days apart. Mine was the Crab & Shrimp Louie Salad and it was heavenly, the best I have had in years, it even tops the famous San Francisco Crab Louie's I grew up with. One of our girls had the Smoked Salmon salad, the other the Vietnamese-Inspired Lemon Beef Salad, all of which were fabulous. Our waiter, Kyle, was amazing, impressive! He's an excellent attentive waiter with the nicest warm welcoming personality. It was obvious he enjoys making sure his guests are happy with their whole dining experience. I am already planning to go back to Mariposa this week with my husband to have my new favorite, the Crab and Shrimp Salad. Please Mariposa...make that a permanent menu item. A group of us went to Mariposa for a girlfriend's retirement. We had dinner and talked story. The ambiance and food was outstanding. Of course, we ordered more than we could consume. Chef Lance does an awesome job, and the staff was attentive and very nice. My personal faves are the truffle fries and the salmon chazuke. The salmon dish is so delicate and comforting to eat. Even though you're full, you can't stop from putting more in your mouth. Hands down my top place to eat. read more
