Second time coming here and as a local from Whittier I'll be honest, I was skeptical at first. The Downey location didn't live up to the hype for me, felt like it was more about the banda vibe than the food. But this spot changed that. The tostada mixta had really solid savory flavor and the tacos sinaloense were on point. Definitely worth it if you're looking for both good food and a good vibe. Ambience was nice, good energy overall. Just heads up, parking can be rough. You can try Main Street or the lot if you get lucky. There is usually a waitlist too. Overall, I'll be coming back and can see this becoming a regular spot. read more

This was my second time here and somehow the food was even better. The micheladas are insanely flavorful--perfectly balanced.The fried fish (Mojarra al Mojo de Ajo with sauce on the side) was spot on, and the Tacos de Pulpo Zarandeado were next-level: tender and packed with flavor. Each table got a generous helping of chips and salsa, which is always a treat! We also ordered a size of guacamole, which was a large portion and made with fresh ingredients. I don't usually write many bad reviews because even though I know what good Mexican food should taste like, I don't really complain much. When I saw the reviews I expected much better food that what I paid for. The waitress was extremely polite and friendly until she kept directing me to the best items on the menu according to her which were also the most expensive. I ordered a Baja Style fish taco. This taco couldn't have been further away from an Ensenada Taco and trust me, I've been to Ensenada many times and this taco wasn't that. $5.99 for a Fish taco which did have a crunchy outside but it was simple, no flavor, not enough crema to bring out the flavors one would expect from a Baja Fish Taco. I also ordered a Shrimp Ceviche Tostada which to be honest I really struggled to find the shrimp in the tostada. I know times are hard but when you charge $12.99 for shrimp, you expect to find shrimp. This could have been something that could have led me to their $23.99 Mix Tostada but after searching for shrimp, no way I was going to spend my hard earned money of more veggies with no seafood. I was torn to write this review because in the end the waitress gave me a manager card with a complimentary Free Aguachile. If they have to offer you a free aguachile which is not cheap to get you back a second time, I would recommend that they put a little more love into the plates they sell at a premium to get customers to return a second time. If you've made it this far you might feel like I am writing this review because I am a cheap ass, well let me tell you that I make over $200,000 and last week spent $1,000 on food alone in Valle de Guadalupe. This was one happy momma... Left completely satisfied in my craving for fried mojarra & michelada. When my daughter invites me for a late Mother's Day Lunch she gets a gigantic "YES PLEASE!!" She did not go wrong in choosing this place. It was our first time here and let me say it was a wonderful foodie experience, plenty of seating...
