My mom had the fish tacos and she said it was the best she ever had. I see some reviews complaining about the chips and salsa costing $3 (*heavy eye roll*). Yes they do but worth it and I don't blame them for charging that with inflation and everything else. If you don't want to pay $3 for chips and salsa, maybe don't go out for dinner? I probably wouldn't order a drink here and lounge around - not that kind of place. But the food is fantastic! read more

Huge portions, just straight up huge. I'm used to downtown san diego portions of a small tostada for 12$. Not here, for that same price a got a mountain of ceviche on top of an already full plate of ceviche. And the quality and flavor was fantastic too. The tostada does get a bit soggy under all that, but with a side of chips it was easy to deal with. Aguachiles were nice and spicy, the shrimps did have some icy bits as if they were still defrosting though. Despite all that the experience was still great. We were going to try this place on Saturday, November 30. Sat down in a booth and was barely greeted by a waitress who apparently doesn't know how to smile or greet customers warmly. I wish I'd gotten her name because I would've posted it here. She could use a little training refresher. When we learned that not even the first basket of chips and salsa were complementary, we decided to leave. The place looked cute enough but the poor first impression and charging for chips left us cold. We will not be back to give them a second try. Food was decent, not as good as other places in town. Servers were all absent minded and more oriented to serve new guests rather than seated ones. Atmosphere was nice, price too high, asked for clarification on a few items was met with blank stares and thoughtless answers. My wife had to change her order due to a health concern and they messed up the order, we asked again for a correction and our server dismissed us completely. All this coupled with the fact that we waited over 10 minutes just to pay, Overall just a bad experience. If you want good Mexican food in town for half the price go to Mananas or La Cocina. So today while out while my dad and daughter we decided to try a place I normally see extremely busy on the weekends so I figured it was busy for a reason..well we arrive and first off I will start off by saying the salsa is from a jar. Quite literally tostitos salsa and to top it off we get our food it looked great and first few bites I was not disappointed that was until about 4 bites into my rice I found HALF A BUG. Bug looks small because i ate half of it can even see some bug guts at the end of it but regardless I ate a fucking bug and this didn't seem to bother staff too much. We did not pay a dime. This bug was cooked with my rice very gross. As someone with a background in culinary I'm absolutely disgusted and disappointed. Do better with food prep and cleanliness people. We had a large party of 15 people and called a week ahead for the reservation to celebrate an early Mother's Day. We arrived about 5 minutes ahead of our reservation time and were told that they would be cleaning the table and setting up for us and it would be just another few minutes. We were seated about 5 minutes after our reservation time which was great. Our server came over and took drink and appetizer orders which were brought to us shortly afterwards. I tried a spicy cucumber margarita, quite delicious although a bit hot for my liking (you know I drank it though ;) Our food was ordered and all was brought out quickly. I ordered the shrimp tacos with rice and beans, very hot and flavorful, lots of shrimp! Everyone also said they enjoyed their various beverages and food. This place can best be described as a "taco shop" wrapped in the comforts and service of a sit down restaurant with real plates and silverware. I recently had their Chilaquiles for breakfast, it was excellent! Fried corn tortilla pieces mixed with shredded chicken & eggs, smothered with house enchilada sauce & cheese. It was such a huge serving. I was filled for the rest of the day... Machaca plate is also very good. Shredded beef mixed with eggs, bell peppers and onions. Served with a side of rice, beans and hot tortillas. The beef itself was fairly bland. I've had some machacas that light up most of my GI tract. This one not so much. It sat fairly well. "Supreme Burrito" is a monster for only $6.99! Made with your choice of chicken or beef, filled with rice, beans, cheese, guac, sour cream, lettuce, kitchen sink, etc. This football sized burrito is then liberally blanketed with a flavorful chile relleno type sauce. The shredded beef was tender (albeit bland); everything else was well proportioned and tasty. Tortilla warm, soft and supple. Such an amazing value to get this huge burrito plate at an affordable price. I literally felt like laying down after eating this. Cheese enchiladas here, not that great. Held a conservative amount of an unknown cheese with an unappealing taste. I've had some exceptional cheese enchiladas in the day and this one didn't come close unfortunately. The beef enchilada on the other hand was very good. Filled with a generous amount of shredded beef mixed with a few peppers/onions. Sauce was dark and rich looking although had very little discernible flavor. The cheese enchilada did begin weeping a small pool of grease towards the end. read more

Have always gone here everytime we come through Ramona. Loved it pre-covid. The last few times we've been have almost been unbearable with the smell in there. It's really awful and very off putting! We tried it anyway and the food was so- so. Not at all what we remembered. I ordered a Chile Verde burrito weet style. The peeled was not cubed but looked more like carnitas was mixed with some green sauce and stuffed with raw onions. The sauce looked too be the green sauce from a can and the taste was pretty plain. My burrito cost $20. ($4. extra for wet style). But $16. dry style. The chips and salsa used to be brought when you say down, but was $3. We were asked if we wanted chips and salsa when we sat down but weren't told they charged for it now. My husband ordered the carnitas plate. It was full of fast and very bland. What topped all of this off was that we both got an upset stomach that night. We're in our RV, so we had to fight for the bathroom. I slept with a trashcan next to me as I felt so nauseated and didn't want to throw up in bed. At one time (a few years ago) their reviews were high and is why we chose them. Now we see so many more with higher reviews. We will be trying a new place next time! The smell though was soooo off-putting. Almost unbearable. read more

A great place for breakfast if you're not feeling American when in the area. We ordered the breakfast burrito and the machaca with eggs plate. The machaca was EXCELLENT. Awesome flavor and texture. One of the better machacas I've had. The breakfast burrito was also filled with the traditional breakfast burrito fillings that made it so tasty. The restaurant was clean, gave me vibes of an authentic mom & pop in Mexico. I enjoyed watching ESPN on their TVs. Service was friendly, food was good, and their menu was large. Fantastic food but I wish the pedestrian salsa was hotter. I do get the hotter salsa ( you have to ask for it) but besides that the food is excellent and I love their chile relleno with beans! Friends love the Chili Verde burrito and the Carne Asada burrito but I do not eat red meat. Also, they have a delicious sea bass ceviche tostada...rivals the Marisco's in Tulum! Also, I wish they would update the menu prices. A lot of things have gone up $2+ dollars and they now charge for chips and salsa. So the people in front of us got asked by a waiter if they wanted more soda and we've been waiting for at least half an hour and she still didn't ask us for more soda. Now for our food we waited 45 minutes for our food and yeah I get it's busy but we were here for 1 hour and 26 minutes we got here at 5:20 and the people in front of us got asked 3 times for more soda. This restaurant is unethical in how they charge for what they consider "extras". I ordered a chili rellano plate and asked for a little extra sauce. The waitress brought a small 4 ounce bowl of sauce on the side. She never once said there would be an extra charge for it. When the bill came she had added $4.59 for the sauce. I told her that's not right. She should have told me it costs more. She said, "oh yes we charge for everything extra". But how would I know that? It's not posted anywhere and I wasn't told in advance. It's not right And I'd like to add that while we were eating this same waitress came by our table with a dirty 5 gallon bucket of corn chips, and then she proceeded to fill a chip warming machine with her bare hands. Not only is the restaurant sneaking extra charges on your bill but they don't practice sanitary food handling. I don't recommend this restaurant. read more

Stopped here because of being hungry after a long flight and drive from the airport. The parking lot was full so it looked like a good place to try. I ordered shredded beef enchiladas which comes with beans and rice and subbed guacamole for sour cream due to dietary needs. No problem with that. Food was excellent, quick and the atmosphere relaxed. The staff was very helpful and refilled tea and chips. I will certainly return here to try the seafood meals, which is a specialty if there is time, as we are staying in another locale. Definitely recommend! read more

I was greeted quickly and seated immediately by Brenda. The restaurant wasn't packed but it was comfortably busy. My fajitas were exceptionally good: They were almost sweet from the caramelized onions, the meat was perfectly seasoned, seared, yet still moist, not over-cooked, the portion size was easily sufficient for 2 (unless you're a Linebacker in the NFL). Brenda was cheerful, attentive and kept my soda cup filled (that's a big deal for me). To explain why I didn't give 5*'s, the salsa was not what I would have hoped for - tomato paste with plenty of garlic, chopped tomatoes, chili pepper, and green onions - the seating is very uncomfortable if you have a bad back, which I do, the decor is kinda dark and doesn't feel like it's been updated in a while and the prices are surprisingly high. I really wanted to give 5-stars, but I just couldn't for those reasons. However, my compliments to the chef and my thanks to my kind waitress. read more

On our way up to Ramona for the second time in as many weeks, we decided, for the sake of time, to try to find somewhere in Ramona for dinner. Not having any clue as to what was around (other than The Turkey Inn, which sparked neither interest nor desire), I turned to Yelp, and found this restaurant. It was the closest restaurant, with the best price range and rating. It was a rainy, cold night when we pulled into the parking lot (it was a bit dark, I don't think they have many lights in the lot. If they do, they were all turned off when we were there). The lot wasn't very full, but we figured the rain was keeping people away that night. We were greeted right when we walked in, and taken to a table close to the front. The restaurant is actually bigger inside than it looks, and it was bright and clean. They brought out chips and salsa right away, and we took our times looking through the menu options. They have the dishes you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant, and the portions looked to be fairly large. Towards the back of the menu, they have combination plates, so if you're like me (indecisive), or if you're in the mood for a bit of everything, the combo plates would be the way to go. I decided to get the enchilada/tamale combo plate, while my husband got the two beef taco plate. Food ordered, drinks in hand, we tried out their salsa. It was good, but it definitely lacked in the heat department. The flavors were mild, and it wasn't overly chunky (kind of a pet peeve of mine; if I wanted salsa fresca, I'd ask for it!) It paired with the warm, slightly salted chips well enough, but again, I would have liked to have had a little more kick from it. The food was delivered quickly, and the size of the plates...crikey! This is one of those, "if you leave here hungry, it's your own fault kind of places", for sure. The combo plates come with rice and beans, and they fill you up on everything. To me, the enchilada was the best thing on the plate. Both the enchilada and the tamale were covered in red sauce and cheese, but for some reason, it worked with the enchilada, and detracted from the tamale. The masa of the tamale was also a bit crunchier than I had expected it to be. The rice and beans were good, but way too much food. I couldn't even finish the "main" pieces of my plate, let alone the side dishes. My husband loved the two tacos, which were bigger than expected, and stuffed full of meat. They definitely didn't skimp there, which was nice to see. He had problems finishing off the rice and beans on his plate, as well, but made sure to finish off the tacos (wouldn't want to waste anything, you know!) I'm glad we stopped in here, instead of one of the fast-food joints off of Main Street. Aside from the food and the cleanliness of the restaurant, the wait staff was super friendly and helpful. They seemed to have a few regulars in there that night, and you could tell that they were genuinely happy to see and serve them. read more

I have ate here a few times now. Last time was just ok at best. Service sucked, food was just average and the fresh salsa was not near as good as it is usually. Also the chips and salsa are not free anymore and its not bottomless anymore either. The waitress acted like it was a huge deal that we needed fresh salsa with our food, and honestly the salsa was a big reason I go there. Tried this place out for dinner the other night. The service staff was very friendly and the place is clean. It's a bit dated inside and you can tell it caters to locales but they treated me very well with always a smile. The food was quite a surprise for a town with many Mexican food options. I've tried many of the other places and I must say this one Rocks. It's a true 3 1/2 Star place. Tried the Fish Taco Combo. Liked them allot. The Tacos are nice size and flavored well. The Beans and Rice are very good. Also tried the Rolled Tacos, The best I've had in a long time. The prices are very good for the food and quantity you get. The only drawback was the Margarita (Blended) was very week and tasteless. (Not Recomended) I will eat here again for sure as I'm in Ramona just about every week for one thing or another. Can't beat the quality of food, prices, and customer service. My favorites here are the adobada, shrimp ceviche tostada, surf & turf burrito, carne asada tacos and shrimp tacos. They have Keto items on their menu if you are counting carbs. They make a mean Michelada too. read more
