It is a privilege to have such a great Mexican food restaurant in Ramona... the rolled tacos are great, but the crab nachos (and the sauce that accompanies the crab nachos) are out of this world - something you would expect at a Mexican fine dining restaurant. BEWARE OF HIDDEN CHARGES... At MARISCOS MAR DE CORTEZ ON 10th. Waited for the manager to call me back today but of course never received a call to discuss this issue. Left my phone number on the charge receipt. Last night had an unpleasant experience at one of my best restaurants. I had my credit card on the table ready to pay and the server (will not mention her name) brought back the copies of the charge receipt for me to sign but didn't bring me the itemized receipt. I wanted to see it as I always do, but this time I thought why is it higher than I calculated? This server strangely replied that most people throw them out anyway. I said I wanted my itemized receipt. Glad I looked it over. Hidden in the charge for the two dinners, were a $.75 charge on each plate for the guacamole and it was listed as a "GUAC surcharge"! In addition to that we ordered fresh guacamole which was $6.99. I questioned this hidden and unknown surcharge and that it wasn't shown on the menu nor did I know I was getting 2 tblsp of "pureé" guacamole with my MOJO DE AJO (octopus). They utilized very sneaky tactics and it was not appreciated. Needless to say, they have lost me as a customer for their hidden surcharges and I hope they find a way to get Rich over this but this customer isn't coming back! read more

Food was pretty good. I got the fish taco and my wife got the ceviche tostada. It was a little white washed (shredded cheese on my taco) but I like that sometimes. Like the white version of enchiladas. I love those too. Staff was super nice. And they were cool with us and joking around. Probably cause we were the only Mexicans in there. Chips were stale:( but we still ordered refills on them cause they're free lol..They do need better salsa for the chips. It tasted like pace or old El Paso. But it was aight. October 20,2021. Lunch Just had lunch here. The taco salads were very good, flour tortilla bowl was fresh and crispy. It was bountiful. I couldn't finish it. Lots of beef, my friend had lots of chicken. Both meats were flavorful. Beans were not the main ingredient. Topped with a generous portion of sour cream, guacamole and shredded cheese. The Tampiqueño carne asada plate was bountiful but the meat was thin and a bit dry. MY COMPLAINT has to do with new pricing, which I understand. HOWEVER, pricing on large menu outside restaurant and menus given are NOT CLEAR OR TRANSPARENT. OLD PRICES REMAIN. A YELLOW POST IT NOTE SAID "PRICE CHANGE". NO OTHER INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED. SERVER DIDN'T STATE NEW PRICES. NO WHERE ARE NEW PRICES STATED. ALSO, WHEN ASKED IF WE WANTED CHIPS AND SALSA, WE WERE NOT TOLD THERE WAS NOW ALMOST A $3.00 CHARGE FOR THESE. Everything has higher than listed prices. Carne asada plate was $6.00 more from $15.99 on menu to $21.99 on check. Taco bowls were $10.99 on menu but $12.99 for chicken and $13.49 for beef ON CHECK. Iced tea was also more expensive. I understand restaurants need to increase prices for food and employees. This is the only place I have eaten at that does not let you know ACTUAL prices BEFORE YOU RECEIVE THE CHECK. I have blood sugar issues so I ordered chicken fajitas. Sounds safe right? Wrong!!! It came soaked in soy and teriyaki sauce. Who puts that on Mexican food?!?! The waitress acted like it's common place and didn't seem to care what it was doing to me. Guess what. It's not common, I've never had that kind of sauce on Mexican food, ever! The two grilled fish taco plate was quite delicious however, I also ordered a shrimp a la diabla plate that tasted very strange. After taking the first bite I asked if it would be possible to order something else instead the waitress went back with my plate and returned to inform me that nothing was wrong with the sauce. I was told I would be charged for that plate but can order an additional plate and that my a la Diabla plate could be boxed to go. Considering the plate tasted strange I didn't see a point in taking it home with me. Two stars for poor customer service. read more

Average Mexican restaurant. Nice people but only average food. Some dishes are better than others. The fajitas plates are very good so that's what I always order now. I had a really bad experience once here when I ordered a Carni Asada plate and received a slab of the toughest Carni asada you could even imaging. Couldn't even cut it into tiny pieces and eat it. I have frequented or lived in Ramona for the last 15 years and hadn't ever stopped in to try out this establishment until the last couple of months. Was not disappointed. From the quick service, to the large portions, to the relative low cost, the visit begged another almost immediately - and the return trip was just as good. We've been to a few Mexican restaurants in Ramona and since I eat light, I'm not as particular, but Marisco's is almost always my husband's choice. This is a sit down restaurant, which lends itself to not be as quick as others, but I have never had a bad meal here. I enjoy the atmosphere, the food is quite good and they give great portions. It wasn't that busy when I came in and I was quickly seated. Chips and salsa were brought out promptly. The chips were warm and the salsa just the right amount of spicy. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas with beans and rice and a margarita. And it came to my table within a couple minutes. Very quick! The enchiladas were big and filled with onions, peppers, cheese and shrimp and topped with a delicious red sauce. The rice and beans were good. The margarita was a little water but acceptable. The server was nice but not attentive. She only came to my table only a few times which is a downer for me. Right when she delivered the food, I wish she asked if I needed more salsa cuz I was out! And she was gone like the wind! I couldn't finish my food and was waiting for attention from my server so I could get a box but that took awhile. All and all, good food. Not stellar. We have eaten here for years normally it has always been amazing. The other night we went in and we always get the cilantro chicken which has always been made with chicken brest one of our favorites. When are food came out the chicken cilantro was done with chicken thighs it was horrible very disappointing we asked about it and they said we ran out of chicken breast. I've been coming here for a long time. Food has always been decent with decent prices. Apparently since covid the prices have changed. Which is not displayed on the menu rather a hand written note on top of the menu that says price changes. So basically they can charge whatever they want. We ordered a kids rolled taco plate. Chimichanga plate, 2 flautas and 2 shrimp tacos. Brought us to $75! The upcharge was at least 3-5 a plate plus they now charge for chips and salsa which they do not mention. Pretty disappointing. I get a service charge or something, but normally that would have been way less. It's not even the prices that are disappointing. It's that they don't tell you how much it is because they still use their old menu. read more
