For starters, they brought our chips and salsa. Not the usual watered down salsa, but with body and tons of flavor. We were off to a good start! Companion ordered a Carne Asada Chimichanga. It was huge and stuffed with meat. It was ordered with green sauce and the flavor was nothing short of amazing. 1/2 of it resides in my refrigerator. For myself, I ordered a pair of Cheese Enchiladas Sonoran Style, which means they had a pair of fried eggs on top along with red sauce. The last time I had this was in Lourdsberg, New Mexico in a little mom and pop place. This was exactly the same. It also came with Frijoles Refritos (refried beans), and fried potatoes. A wonderful lunch but I couldn't finish it. Companions plate also came with a portion of Guacamole. Since companion does not care for avocados, I felt it was my duty to devour it. Unlike most guac's, this one had lovely flavor and the avocado was chunky. It was so refreshing not to have a baby food Guacamole. This is a mom and pop restaurant. It isn't fancy, but it is real. It's clean, service is excellent, and the food it tops. Several minutes later my main arrived. My wife is still waiting. Once again, attractive presentation. The flavor was pretty good, but the boiled shrimp were over cooked and pasty. Not the freshest. For 36.40, I was expecting so much more! I finished my what I wanted of my food. My wife is still waiting. AFTER 40 MINUTES, her order arrived. This was the only saving grace. The fish (Talapia), was well cooked, moist and good flavor. I think 22.00 is a bit high for Talapia. It came with fries that were well seasoned, but limp, and a pretty scarce salad. I love the booth and chairs with colorful Mexican scenes on them. The colored banners strung across the ceilings and the metal, life-sized Mariachi figures are so fun. The colorful floral mural on one wall is a perfect backdrop. They use colorful fabric napkins which only add to the festive feel. The surface here was really good today. Our server was spot on with orders and our food came out relatively quickly. Our group of six can sometimes be all over the place, but she kept up. The food is always good here. We ordered a variety of things from hard tacos to nachos too shrimp ceviche tostadas. The consensus is always that the food here is delicious. I even like the rice here and I am one of the pickiest rice people. We arrived at happy hour when house margaritas are only $5. We will be lifetime fans of Casa de Juana. Up until recently we had at least a handful of Mexican-style eateries from differing regions in our neighborhood that were our go to locations for us, so we decided to conduct a review of these fave locations in preparation for this dinner, and low and behold, in our opinion most of their status' abruptly changed from fave, to non fave! I have come to the conclusion, that many of the resto industry's woes are founded in today's economy and other mitigating factors. One of our faves over the past ten plus years, we had the opportunity of visiting quite a bit, where as it became one of top five go-to Mex eats. Garcia's Mexican Grill made the grade in more ways than one! As I've previously mentioned, it's not the finest Mexican Cuisine in Phoenix, it does a great job putting some very, very superb flavors on your dish and of putting together some selections that are well worth the visit. They offer delectable Carnitas, an incredible pico de gallo; fantastic Enchiladas whether Chicken, Beef or Cheese, and a fantabulous green sauce, the terrific Chicken Tortilla Soup and some fab homemade tortilla strips, just to mention a few items. If you've never visited Garcia, I recommend El Magnifico Sampler is a great bet since it gives the novice to Garcia's the best of everything! It was not difficult to make a choice as to who would do our catering. Our catered dinner consisted of magnificent renderings of their beef and cheese enchiladas, the hard tacos were perfectly crisp and homemade, along with all the prepared accoutrements that go with it, and without saying, their servings include rice and choice of refried, charro, or black beans and more. And as is always good, the catered food was as excellent as the restaurant's! Again, after deliberating between four other Mexican Cuisine establishments, we've concluded that Garcia's is pretty much our neighborhood Mexican go to place for a full lunch, dinner, deserts, drinks, and now catering. Kudos Garcia's staff and cooks. We hope it stays that way! Buen provecho!
