I believe Marker 32 was the first of what is now a three seafood restaurant chain around Jacksonville, with the other two being the "Fish Camps" in Ponte Vedra Beach and Atlantic Beach. They are all very good, but this one seems to be a bit more expensive than the other two, which a waiter recently confirmed. Not exactly sure why, as this can't be their most expensive real estate location of the three and none use tablecloths, tho Market 32 is on the water next to the marina where I keep my boat. However, once inside, the "feel" of this restaurant is bit more formal than the other two. Anyway, the food is excellent and creative. I recently had deviled eggs & fried oysters, which I had never seen anywhere before. Seemed like an odd combination, but I like both so what the heck? I tried the appetizer and it was damn good. Being served by Cheryl the lovely bartendress helped make everything all the better as she was so cheerful and pleasant...easy on the eyes as well! This is a tough one. My wife had been out of town for awhile and I wanted to do something special for her. We had dinner at Marker 32 tonight and up until the end it was great. We liked the environment and the food was good. At the end of the dinner I ordered a glass of wine. After a pretty long wait I decided to cancel the wine order. I went up to the bar where my waiter was and told him I no longer wanted the wine. To my surprise he said "They already poured it." At any nice restaurant they would have simply acknowledged they took a long time and taken the wine back. Instead, he brought it to my table. A few minutes later I asked for the check and at that time I said I wasn't going to drink the wine. The waiter said he would take it off my bill. When the check arrived I noticed the wine charge was not removed from the check, as he had promised. I asked the waiter about it, saying "the wine charge wasn't removed. Did you mean to leave it?" to which he answered "Yes." So, that ruined an otherwise good night and soured me on returning. It was such a simple thing and the waiter blew it. The wine order was late so I asked to cancel it and instead I was forced to pay for it even though I was promised it would be removed from the bill. Just not high class and very disappointing. This place really got my attention bc i viewed their menu and upon reading, i saw they had an entree which i normally would get but make minor adjustments to it. That dish would be shrimp and grits! Now I'm my world, if available, i always sub out the shrimp for something else out of the sea and is usually like crab or.......scallops!!! One thing i got from momma is the love of those things. She was a fan as i was growing up and now me! Needless to say, they had it as an entree! Scallops and grits,(hold the bacon)! Now before all that beautiful-ness, we were greeted nicely and was seated in 1of the best seats in any house, window seat! Especially if the view is great,which it was! We're Talkin right beside a body of water I'm gonna go with calling the intercoastal part of the ocean! Then we had an app on the house thanks to wonderful management they have there, like wow! It was tuna poky! I usually am not a fan of this but it was dope-a-licious and im serious! For app #2 was fried green tomatoes and those were like i never had b4, i definitely suggest if u love fgt! Went 3 or 4 courses on em and last but not least was dessert to top it off and that too was tasty. Absolutely wonderful food! Great atmosphere - the only downside was all the windows were covered in condensation so you couldn't see the view. Our group got tuna poke and oysters as a starter - loved the flavoring of the poke sauces. We also ordered crab cakes, which were some of the best we had ever had. For our entrees, we had halibut with mashed potatoes, scallops and grits, and the salmon with pea risotto. All were delicious, but the halibut special was hands down the favorite. read more

My friends brought me here as I'm from out of town, and I was so glad they did! We started out with scallops on pork belly, and oysters with spinach...both were quickly devoured! The flavors were amazing. We also tried the tuna Poke (which I've never had, only heard about) and wasn't disappointed in that either. I had one of the specials, halibut, with light sauce over cavatapi pasta, and it was cooked to perfection. Not to mention the bartender (who's name I didn't get) made a wicked old fashion, of which there were several made for the table. Happy Hour was great! I had some unexpected free time so went to the bar at 5:30pm. The deviled eggs were so delicious. Then tried the calamari that was sweet and spicy deliciousness. What happened to the crab cake entree??? In April I had succulent crab chunk cakes with a bit of moist binder. Last night my friend and I both had the SUPPOSED CRAB CAKES - actually two blobs of SPICED BREADING with bits of crab! UGH!!!! $26 for two cakes of bread, a small pile of greens and some boiled potatoes with butter and herbs. Hmmm. What do you think happened??? The rating that I am giving Marker 32 may come as a surprise from the overall rating so many have given it. But it is a reflection of the experience me and my wife had. We went to M32 for special night out. The restaurant looked nice. We were greeted by a friendly host and quickly seated as we had made reservations before hand. We sat down excited to see the beautiful view overlooking the water. We then proceeded to order an appetizer that was on the specials. It was an octopus dish. This was the first sign that we were not going to enjoy the rest of the meal. The octopus was over powered by an excessive amount of andouille sausage and the sauce that it was served in did nothing to help tie the two together. The dish was not terrible but it was not worth the price and was very much a let down. The main dishes went along the same path. My halibut was over cooked and flavorless and my wife's scallops were run of the mill. The waiter was a little over bearing which is normally something I never mention, but on this occasion he consistently interrupted our conversation instead of just topping off our drinks. The food would get a 3 out of five for it was not bad but it also was not good. The service would get a 3. But what brings this review down to a 2 is what we paid for this meal. Without drinks the total came out to over 100$ for two. I do not mind paying a decent amount for a meal but it better be close to worth it. Do not order the Bistro Steak. It was the worst steak I have ever eaten. I ordered it medium rare, it came medium rare, however, it was almost impossible to eat. Super tough. I even had to spit some pieces out which almost made me gag, to much fat. I will never eat that steak again. read more

I heard a lot of positive comments about this place so I figured I'd give it a try. I attempted to surprise the wife by celebrating our 26th anniversary somewhere quiet and quaint. To MY surprise, it was quite noisy. It was so loud that the server attending the table next to me had to literally belt out the daily specials so that the couple could hear him. My server Tate was excellent. He was prompt and attentive and apologized for the loud noise. Everything from the calamari to the banana pudding cheese cake was delicious. Unfortunately, my evening was overshadowed by the resonance of loud laughter and chatter. We enjoyed this restaurant very much. Very close to the water which is always nice as is the friendly cat on the steps as you walk up to the entrance. The atmosphere is relaxed but not really casual- everyone dresses nicely here. The restaurant was crowded on a Saturday evening but not unpleasantly so, and not overly noisy. We waited at the bar for roughly 20 minutes for a table- not bad for having failed to make reservations. Service was fast polite and professional. We started with oysters, both raw on half shell and grilled with a light sauce. For our main course we both enjoyed the scallops- large and fresh and cooked nicely. A bread pudding and a flourless chocolate torte for dessert; again very nice. I'd absolutely recommend the restaurant and recommend reservations- we were lucky to get a table. Husband and I went there to celebrate my birthday. Based on reviews and photos it looked like the perfect romantic place. Unfortunately the dining room was very loud. My husband ordered his fish bites without the sauce on top. It came out covered in sauce and had to go back. My beer cheese soup (which I was super excited to try) was very watery and so salty. My steak was cooked perfectly but again so salty that I could only take a few bites. We left paying $120 and very disappointed. And I can't believe I would ever complain about salt, as I would eat a bag of chips over something sweet any day. Birthday ruined. read more

We stumbled upon this place during visits to the Mayo Clinic. I'm rather a critic and can't find one thing negative to say. We eat at the bar. 5-7 weekdays a terrific selection of appetizers for $5. The menu is wonderful and everything is fresh, expertly prepared and presented. It may not be the cheapest place but guarantee you will have a memorable meal, great ambiance with water views and excellent service. Fresh catch is always spot on. The arugula fries great and fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese are exceptional. Just minutes from mayo. This is a MUST TRY! read more

Holy MOLY! I have been to every classic, new, swanky, fancy, foodie restaurant in this town and I can honestly say this was the best experience I've ever had. This might have been the first time in my life I looked at the bill at an expensive restaurant and thought, yep, totally worth it. The food was orgasmic, the service was impeccable and the pricing is very honest. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation, with the intention of enjoying some drinks at the bar first. At our reservation time, the hostess apologized for the wait...that we created by showing up early!! That's class. Our waiter was very pleasant and personable. We decided to start out with the salmon mousse for an appetizer and it was the best thing ive ever tasted (at least until that point in my life). The mousse was served on top of potato pancakes with chorizo, dill and caviar as accents. These rich flavors combined so well with the salmon and came together for a delectable dish. Then came the bread basket. Yes, I'm writing about the bread basket. A mixture of honey wheat, sundried tomato and spinach foccacia breads, they easily could have charged for this delightful app! And now, for the entree. I decided to go with the tuna special, not like it was much of a choice, served with kumquat and olive chutney, kale and bread pudding. Normally when you go to an upstanding restaurant, you can expect your entree to be no bigger than the side of your fist. Sometimes, you're still hungry. Not here. This entree was huge. The chutney was a perfect accompaniment to the seared tuna and the sautéed kale was so flavorful, I couldnt believe I was eating kale! Oh, remember those breads I mentioned before? The ones that were infused with amazing flavors like sundried tomato? Yeah, those are the same breads that were used in the bread pudding. With gruyere cheese. I'm still thinking about this dish. The entire experience was amazing, we even got a visit from the chef himself. And even though we didn't order dessert, we received two bites from one of their desserts with the check. People, pay attention to what I'm about to say. If you like great tasting food.. If you like servers who can tell you each and every individual experience you'll get from your wine selection.. I am not much of a fish eater, but my parents came up for the weekend and lets say they like finer things, and I wouldn't hear a shriek when the bill came. Our server was Chad. You must have Chad. Make sure you get Chad. He works every night but Thursdays. So don't go on Thursdays. There are six other days, so go on one of those so you can get Chad. Chad was like servers you encounter in Italy; they take their job seriously, they are experts on meat and fish selections and the wines that go best with each, they can compare flavor experiences about any individual wine, and my favorite.. quite frankly tell you NOT to get this particular wine because it's crap, "I don't even know why it's even on the menu." Chad was fantastic. 5 stars for Chad, alone. We tried the fried okra for an appetizer. Dad loved it, then again he's the one that ordered the weird stuff. I just picked at the blue cheese on top of it. Chad (oh Chad) sold us on the warm spinach salad and it was soooo gooooood. Dad ordered one as a "small salad" and my mother and I split the regular sized one, and oh man was that plenty. If you're thinking "oh salad, that's a light start." There aint nothing light about it. ENTREES: Father: got the Fresh Catch option that was trigger for the day. He'd never had trigger but when I started explaining to him that it was a milder fish, he decided "Well if Sarah likes it, it must be good because she never eats fish!" This is a true story, I NEVER eat fish. My Mother: got the caramelized scallops on a bed of the creamiest most tasty grits you'll ever eat. Amazing. So delicious. MYSELF: I got the Beef tenderloin because Chad wouldn't shut up about it and now everyone at the table knows why; BECAUSE IT IS SO PERFECTLY PREPARED AND MELT IN YOUR MOUTH GOOD. This restaurant is my new favorite in Jacksonville. I loved it. I cannot wait to come back here. A friend of mine wanted to celebrate getting a raise and we thought Marker 32 would be a great choice. Based on the outside of the building, we didn't think to dress up. This is, after all, Jacksonville. Can you say jean cutoffs? But, regardless, I didn't really appreciate the look from the hostess when we walked in. Additionally, she said, "If you don't have a reservation you'll be forced to eat in the bar." Ok, so force me. In the end, I was glad I let her force me to stay and help her make tips. My server was over-the-moon-helpful and happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. My companion order the ahi tuna and I ordered the daily special (can't recall, but it was definitely fish). Both meals were served timely and definitely worth a rave. The decor needs updating but the food speaks for itself. If they could get rid of one bitchy hostess, this would be a 5 star review! (This makes the "Hidden Gems of the ICW" list because it is JUST BEFORE the ditch (the Intracoastal Waterway). I have to start by saying this is my first ONE STAR review on any social media outlet. Also need to give a shout out to our server Todd; he was great! Now to the review: we got there 30 minutes before the restaurant opened to be sure we could get a table with a view of the water. My wife had been going through radiation treatments at Mayo and I wanted to take her somewhere special. We did not have a reservation however we were told by all the other people locals waiting there that there were plenty of tables and it should not be an issue. When we walked in we were first at the reception and please note that the couple behind also had no reservations. I asked for a table with a view and as the young lady started to look at the computer screen a "Chef Michael" approached her from behind and said "no, put them in that table" pointing to a table behind the bar. I tried to reason with him that I would take any table with a water view even if not next to the windows but he said "no, that's the only table we have", No apologies or anything. I was put in a table behind the bar with zero view of anything except the bar. The people behind us got a table right on the windows with a great view to the water. As I started to see others being seated one by one on the side with a view, and there were many empty tables on that side, I looked around and saw no one being seated on our side, it felt awkward and so I asked to speak with the manager who simply apologized bit did not suggest we could be moved to one of the many still open tables on the side with a view. At this point "Chef Michael " walked by and I flagged him down and asked him why he sat us here but the people behind us without reservations got to sit by a window when we were first in line asking for a water view, he stated that "people in that table has just got up". He literally came up with the biggest BS lie he could conjure. There was no one sitting there because we were the first ones in when the door opened. Suffice to say I asked for my check, paid for our drinks and took my business elsewhere. We will be never go there again. One note of interest if you're Hispanic, beware of this place. I can honest think of no other reason why we were treated the way they treated us there other than we looked different- Hispanic. read more

My husband and I are so glad we found this restaurant. We love fine seafood and we don't mean the fried kind. We've always had a good experience there with the customer service and food except for the last time. Our waiter was a little slow and lacking on the customer service department with us. It wasn't too busy since we came at an odd time. He didn't refill our water or brought us bread. We sat there for half an hour with a plate of butter, just staring at it. Everytime we tried to get him, he was all over the place. We had to tell another guy who came to refill our water about the bread and finally got it after our dinner. Kinda' pointless now. Other than that experience, we still enjoy the atmosphere and food... the atmosphere, to a certain extent. There tends to be a few loud rich old men there who thinks they own the place over talking everyone's conversation. I think it makes you speak louder when you own a yacht. read more

The wife and I took our families here for one of those potentially painful get-togethers. We'd heard great things about M32, but had never been, so figured we would experiment on our folks' dime. Turns out, it was a fine idea. The restaurant itself is crap -- the building is so dated, I kept expecting Herb Tarlek and Dr. Johnny Fever to come traipsing out of the bathroom. It also overlooks a low-grade marina -- 32 foot Bayliners as far as the eye can see. Get past all of that, though, and you're in for a decent time. The waitstaff was duly attentive to my need for social lubricant and kept the drinks flowing. The food -- heavy on seafood -- was all well prepared, fresh and tasty. In balance, go here with people you know, are not trying to impress and who can appreciate good food whereever it is found. Ahoy, matey. read more

Love, love, love seafood! I'm from Phoenix so anytime I find myself on a coast I go on the hunt for some great shrimp, crab and/or scallops. This place is a good one, with one important caveat. It's a little tough to find the 'turn' to get there but it sits right near the water (*caveat warning!) and you have a great view from just about anywhere. The prices are fair $40-$50 or so will get you some really good food. Presentation was beautiful and everything was great. I did a little surf and turf action... grilled shrimp, scallops and a filet. They were perfect! Large, plump, amazingly flavorful with great texture. I took my time and savored every bite. So... the caveat? Well, when I first arrived I pulled into the parking lot and parked towards the water. When I came out about 90 min later the tide had come in and I HAD TO WADE OUT TO MY CAR!!! It was about 3" deep, just enough to pour over the sides of your shoes. I squished all the way back to my hotel. Park in the back! read more

As always Marker 32 never disappoints. This was our third time dining here and the food just seems to get better each time. We had a reservation for 8pm, but had to wait about 15 minutes before being seated as they were incredibly busy (Saturday night). Our waitress was friendly, courteous and very knowledgeable. We both enjoyed entrees from the specials menu and they were excellent. I enjoyed a couple well made Old-Fashioneds - a staple drink that seems tough to have prepared properly, but they were tasty here. Dessert was the Milk Chocolate Tiramisu was amazing albeit a little bit over the top, but we shared it so it was manageable. Definitely not something most would take down on their own without a shotgun full of insulin nearby. As others have mentioned, the decor could certainly use some modernizing, but it is nothing that could distract from the delicious food. My only other caveat is that they can and will get busy, and this can mean that you may wait a little longer for your food. Reservations are a must if you go on the weekends. We look forward to bringing our family here for a social meal the next time they visit. We don't splurge too often, but thus far I'd say that Marker 32 is our favorite Jacksonville choice for when its time to "go nuts". read more

Went here to eat and sat in the section behind hostess and our waiter was a red headed guy with a reddish beard didn't get his name but horrible service if it wasn't for me worrying about karmic debt in this world I wouldn't have tipped him one dollar!! My wife and I went for our 5th anniversary. It was an absolute home run. I put a note on our online reservation that we were celebrating. As the hostess seated us, she congratulated us on our anniversary. The waitress began by doing the same. And then proceeded to bring us complimentary glasses of champagne with our water. After a wonderful meal we ordered coffee and desert. The deserts came out with a special message. I really can't say enough great things. Food, service, atmosphere, all just top notch. This restaurant has a great water view but the interior ambience could be I improved, especially since the prices are high. It has a strange handicapped elevator that should also be upgraded. There are stairs leading to the restaurant that are not easy for older people, the ones who can afford to dine here, to negotiate, We found the base menu to be quite good but the special that one of our party of four ordered was just plain weird. It was a fish dish with some collard green and tomato comfit sauces that propeled what was intended to be a culinary tour de force into a panoply of cognitive dissonance. This attempt at haute cuisine was actually slightly nauseating. The martinis were perfectly prepared and the service was better than adequate. We would return but our guest who ordered the special would not. We do suggest that folks who dine here stick to the menu and hold on to their wallets. Overall Marker 32 is not a particularly good value for money. Try it for lunch when you can actually see the view. read more

This was my first visit to Marker 32 and it will be my last. I've been a Jacksonville resident for several years and there are much better restaurants at the beaches with the same ambiance even at the same price point. Try 619 Ocean View Restaurant, Eleven South Bistro, or Azurea at One Ocean. The entire dining room was so noisy, that I could not have a conservation without asking my guest sitting next to me to repeat themselves. I was told soundproofing was recently installed, so obviously the owner(s) and management are aware of this issue. Even though I asked about the excessive noise more than once to others besides our server, management never stopped by to discuss it or apologize for it. The food presentation and customer service was good, however, the noise completely ruined the entire evening. read more
