After spending the morning at Pike Place, and doing our own tasting tour, we were on the hunt for good seafood. Market Grill came up as one of the higher rated options so we decided to give it a chance. This small stand was located in a very busy area of the market and a constant flow of customers. I ordered the salmon plate which came with a filet, rice, side salad, and garlic bread. As we waited for food we sat on the side of the grill which had 4 seats(3 mounted and 1 stool on a slanted surface). I took note of how the cooks prepared the fish and noticed how it seemed like all they were making was salmon although there were other protein items. That told me just how popular the salmon was. I watched the cooks season the fish very generously so I had high expectations of how flavorful it would be. Once I tasted my food, I was confused on why this place is so popular. I was VERY disappointed in the lack of flavor on the fish. It was flavorless despite the amount of seasoning I watched them put on it. The rice was also not seasoned and didn't gain any flavor from the salmon being on top. It was easily my least favorite meal of the trip and I would not return or recommend.
Had the Blackened Salmon Sandwich, it's decent, includes lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions, and it comes with mayo. Also had the salmon onigiri chowder, I think it was flavorful but maybe not salty enough so I didn't get the full flavors. Almost like a gumbo, not a standard soup. Front counter lady was nice and their tables are out back and we only had to wait a little bit. The main seating is some tables outside but they also have a few counter stools as well
I smart man. I know word. Word like puffery. So when someone claims to sell the "World Famous" Blackened Salmon Sandwich for $23 freaking dollars, I raise one eyebrow and proceed forward with a healthy concoction of cynicism and doubt. That doubt vanished with the first bite. "World Famous Yelp reviewer Zen X. rates Market Grill's World Famous salmon sandwich a five-star delight."
Ok I'm really struggling to understand the hype around this place. The vibe is great, and if you're lucky enough to find seating, it's a really cool spot for a quick meal. However, I thought it was BEYOND overpriced. I got the salmon sandwich, which was almost $30 after tax and tip. The portion size is pretty small, and there is nothing special to the meal. I also thought the salmon was too dry and lacking any flavor. The service was great, and the vibe is really cool, but would def not recommend this place unless you're really craving a salmon sandwich.
After hours of exploring Pike Place, my friend and I decided to stop here for lunch. It was a busy Saturday afternoon and we were able to snag two seats at the counter- incredible, I have a minor ankle injury and quite literally needed to sit down somewhere. My stool was rickety, but I was glad to have it anyway since the counter seating at this stall is very limited. The line to order moved quickly, and they provided complementary water at the register. I ordered the blackened salmon sandwich. I was a bit blown away by the $30 price point, but I wanted to see why this spot is known for them. It was cool to watch them cook the fish on the grill right in front of me, and I just KNEW it was going to be flavorful since I saw the cook shake a hefty amount of seasoning onto the fish. Unfortunately I was wrong. I did enjoy the sandwich, but I can't say I'd get it again for that price. It was good, but not groundbreakingly so. It's ciabatta with tomato, lettuce, grilled onion, rosemary mayo, and the blackened salmon. I expected like a blackened Cajun sort of flavor, but I believe they're referring to the grilling of the fish when they call it "blackened." The salmon was definitely fresh (of course, LOVE), but it lacked flavor. It could've really used salt, or just more/a different seasoning in general. The rosemary mayo is what saved it for me, because I love a good sauce. But I think sans mayo, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the sandwich nearly as much. I also think the fillet could've been a bit bigger because I got a few bites that were just bread & veggie. It was definitely worth trying, but I don't see myself dreamily talking about it when I tell people about my trip.
Having heard so much about this place in Pike Place Market, I really wanted to love this place, but to be honest the food was just fine and nothing special. I feel you are paying for the experience of being in Pike Place Market and getting to eat there, but there are many other places one can get better fish sandwiches. We tried the blackened salmon sandwich and the shrimp sandwich. The shrimp one was more flavorful while the salmon one really needed to be seasoned more. Plus, the nearly $20 price point for each just really left me a bit disappointed with the small portion sizes and lackluster flavor. The service and ambiance are great, so really know that you are coming for that instead of for an incredible fresh seafood experience that you can get elsewhere.
The blackened salmon sandwich is the location is fun. Grabbed my Food and went out to the tables in the back for the views. The cashier was friendly and service was fast!
Really disappointed wit this place the only good thing I had was the service from the black dude at the register Food sucked!!! Like flavorless no flavor whatsoever! I basically threw 25 dollars down the drain. What a waste of time and money. The place is located inside Pike's Market amazing location wit lots of great things around but the food was so disappointing. Both clam chowder and Rockfish cod were absolutely tasteless. Really wish I could've given you a positive review but wit the subpar food no way I could. What a sad day
We were at the public market and wanted a good place to eat seafood just so happened when I mapped it we were like 20 feet from this place. Really friendly staff, service was quick, seating is a premium and very limited. I'm not usually a big fam of cooked salmon but their blackened salmon was really well cooked and all around good sandwich. Right in the thick of the market, you get a really good experience.
We ordered the clam chowder and blackened salmon sandwich to share for lunch. The front counter server was pretty rude given how busy the restaurant was but I appreciated he made sure we had seating outside. I preferred the clam chowder which was heady and warming. The blackened salmon sandwich was ok - salmon was very fresh, but I don't think the fish paired with the sauces very well such that the sandwich tasted disjointed
So we were fortunate enough to come by this place because when we arrived to the marketplace it was during the transition from lunch time to dinner time. Meaning that a lot of the restaurants were starting to close in order to get themselves ready for again the next set of patrons at night. The service was great, the person behind the register really helped us understand what were the popular items of the grill and even gave her a recommendation to make sure that we each got our own clam chowder because it is what they were known for. We also decided to grab a prawn sandwich and salmon sandwich. Of the two of them we actually enjoyed the prawn sandwich more because the seasoning really enhanced the freshness of the shrimp. The salmon sandwich was good, for us though it did need a little bit more seasoning after having the comparison of the prawn sandwich. The one call out regarding the atmosphere is you are definitely going to be seeing a lot of foot traffic which means a lot of fun people watching. The one thing that was a little hard for me was being so close to a fish market/fish stand. In general it would not have been such a distraction with the smell, but again we arrive when things are starting to shut down so they were hosing down and using a bit of cleaning products to get the area disinfected. So that smell did throw off my appetite just a little bit. Would definitely come back here because that chowder was amazing and we really enjoyed the prawn sandwich.
Highly recommend Market Grill to anyone looking for fresh, delicious seafood!! There was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly. The employees were friendly and after we ordered, they showed us to our table outside. They do have a sitting area that is for Market Grill guests (it's labeled as such), and they aren't afraid to kick others out so their guests can dine! It was pretty crowded, as we were there during peak lunch on a Friday. We didn't wait long for our two sandwiches. I had the blackened pacific rock cod. It was SO good. We will absolutely be back next time we're in the area!
Strolled by and place looks super busy so decided to try their clam chowder. Order and paid and sat down to eat on the counter on either side. Friendly service and super thick chowder. Came with 3 packs of oyster crackers and buttered charred bread. Not a whole lot of clams in the chowder but it was enough for me. Tasty and filling.

I love this dive! I have coming here for 21 years whenever I fly into Seattle. Not a big sit down restaurant, kinda open grill with a surrounding counter and some bar height stools. Entrees about $20. Chowder also available. I love the fresh fish & cole slaw. All very fresh! Clean eating. I will continue to visit. read more

The was definitely fresh as expected. The service nice and fast. The ambiance was typical for a market place. I giving four stars because I order my food and while I'm waiting, a gentleman orders after me and they tell him it's a patio if he wants to eat on the patio. ?????? I guess it's for a selected choice! But the food was delicious. read more
Finally tried out market grill over the weekend and it's now one of my new favorite spots for a quick seafood fix... Picked up a shrimp sandwich and cup of chowder to enjoy while overlooking the bay on a sunny day. The sandwich had a great ratio of large grilled shrimp to crusty fresh bread all held together by a rosemary mayo- it was delicious and as I write this I'm thinking about heading back over there for a repeat already... Also had the clam chowder, which I think has been one of the best I've had in Seattle. Flavorful, creamy chowder with lots of clams and large chunks of perfectly cooked vegetables that made me wish I had opted for a larger size. What an amazing find in the marketplace!! I went with the salmon sandwich and did not go wrong. I am not sure what is more fresh...the bread or the salmon?! They also have outback/outdoor seating and you can order online! I was standing inside at the counter when someone told me about out back and the chef comes out to check on orders out there! Like everything in Seattle, it is pricey but worth the experience. A sandwich, soda, and a tip runs you about $23.00 but it is excellent. read more
If you happen to be in Seattle you got to try the Salmon Sandwiches, I came here twice already this week (make sure to check their hours of operation before you come) their sandwiches are so good, the bread is toasty , the salmon is grilled, it comes with lettuce, tomatoes and grilled onions. The guys that work there are super nice, hard working always busy & multitasking but they take care of you !!! read more

The Pike chowder place line was way too long and we were running out of time on our layover. Decided to try this place as there was virtually no line present. My partner had the salmon sandwich while i went for the poke bowl with a side of the medium clam chowder. Salmom sandwich was good. They are definitely using wild caught salmon. You can tell by the darker orange reddish tint of the flesh. It was delicious with a hint of smokiness. Poke bowl had a nice citrus punch and the cubes of fish were tasty and refreshing. Chowder is okay. The cashier was very friendly and I forgot to purchase soda. He gave us one on the house! Also while we were eating, I really needed some water but forgot to get a cup. The same server who gave us the soda on the house read my mind and brought me a cup of water without asking. It really made my day. I am definitely coming back after such a warm treatment. read more

With so many great spots to grab a bite to eat at Pike Place, I somehow always end up here. My go-to is the halibut platter (rice and salad). I notice they sometimes run out of the halibut, so get there early. The blackened salmon sandwich, which they're known for, is also amazing. As the weather warms up I like to grab small bites from various places in the market, and food from Market Grill, and then take it to the not so "secret" garden, out on the overlook with the waterfront view, or the grassy area and eat it all. The people here are friendly too. read more

It is small shop with few seats . The freshness of salmon and quality of shrimps were outstanding for sure. The only thing that did not satisfied my appetite was the burned bread. But 2 young guys who were responsible for kitchen they were attentive, polite, and nice. The prices were over 10 $ for sandwich and plates. read more

This place is located inside Pikes Place Market and they have seating at a bar area inside and also an outside patio area that is sometimes far less crowded than the inside area so as a pro-tip you can skip the inside bar area and just go straight to get seated outside. The noted salmon sandwich here has some really great salmon served on a decent baguette but really I think I could do without the bread and would have preferred to have just eaten the salmon alone. The seafood stew was alright but certainly could have used some more seafood inside it. The server was actually pretty attentive overall with all things considered. Overall this is a decent spot to grab a quick seafood meal in a low key environment where you can watch quite a display of people walking by in front of Pikes Place. read more
Great place for nice lunch and to people watch at the heart of Pike Place. There's outdoor sitting, which I recommend if the weather is nice. We came specifically for the chowder.... Friday of Labor Day weekend and the market was busy. The line wasn't too bad better than the other line across the way. The cashier was very kind and generous, we really appreciated her enthusiasm and smile as I know there were a lot of people to serve that day. She was awesome. As for the chowder... my husband never tried clam chowder before and let's just say he's a fan now. Although I don't know if he'll ever get it that good at any ole place. read more
I found this gem on Yelp before I came into the city. Omg...everything is I ate on my plate was delicious. I wish I tried the clam chowder however what I ordered was plenty. I ordered the salmon platter with rice and greens. The salmon was grilled to perfection. It has the nice grill marks and the crunch texture to the fish. Since the rice usually fills me up first, I started in with the salmon and the toasted/grilled bread. They paired very well together that it could've been a salmon toast. The meal also came with sweet grilled onions which I ate with every bite. It brought that savory and sweet taste. The greens where you're average greens. It has a vinaigrette sauce which I didn't taste too much but it was refreshing. Seating is limited. It has a bar like seating around the kitchen. You'll see how your food is prepped and cooked. Of all the delicious seafood spots inside the touristy spot of Pike's Marketplace, this is the one to go to. The service is pretty good for being in such a busy, fast-paced environment. I got a halibut platter $18, which came with toasted buttered French bread, rice, and salad. I felt so healthy! But for something seemingly "healthy", the flavors were amazing. The fish was fresh, salad dressing was delicious, and rice wasn't too dry. I'd come back to get this again! read more
I really wanted a fish sandwich while I was in Seattle so we stopped by here. We ordered the famous Blackened Salmon Sandwich, Clam Chowder, & a side of garlic bread. The lady taking our order was very sweet. It was getting crowd around 12 but seats empty out pretty quickly! Blackened Salmon Sandwich: I didn't really enjoy the generous mayo (not a mayo fan) but otherwise, this was delicious. One sandwich was pretty big and perfect for 2 of us to share with some other sides! Clam Chowder: The day before, we went to Pike Place Chowder so this was a slight disappointment. It was still very delicious but it really made me understand why Pike Place Chowder does better. The garlic bread was a perfect side to the chowder. They had saltine crackers on the side for us to pick at but wished they had oyster crackers instead. Still, really liked the fact that the saltine crackers were within reach of the seats so we didn't have to ask for more. read more
Simple place to stop for a late lunch in Pike Place Market. Choose a fish, then decide between a platter or a sandwich for an extra $4 or $5 dollars. Our fish of the day, Copper River Sockeye Salmon with rice and salad, was a good option for lunch. They also have chowder. Small counter space with limited seating but each fish is freshly cooked to order. read more

Enjoyed the meal at this busy counter top restaurant in the market. The chowder was the best we have had. I don't have a picture because we ate it so quickly. But there is no reason to eat chowder anywhere else. This is the top. The world famous salmon sandwich was very good. Bread good, fresh wild salmon good. Nothing says PNW like a salmon sandwich right? Market Grill is highly touted across the inter-webs and the small counter inside is always packed. We've walked by this spot probably a zillion times but I've never actually tried it myself - until now. $23 bucks gets you a single blackened salmon sandwich with a small side of clam chowder - ouch. We opted to sit on their patio out back which allowed us to both enjoy the fresh air and exit the stifling heat from all the bodies crammed into the market on a sunny weekend + the grillin' happening inside. Service was just okay as orders seemed to systematically exit the kitchen. That being said, we were about halfway done with our lunch by the time hubby asked - hey uh - are we going to get our chowder? In summary, busy weekends cause for busy employees. It's crammed and people are tired, hot and hungry. The sandwich was good, perfectly crusty bun with the signature char for the 'blackened' portion of the description but probably not as earth shattering as I expected it to be and I felt the actual salmon portion was rather small for the price. The chowder however was very unique with an interesting blend of spices that my husband really enjoyed. Checked it off the list, just probably won't be back. read more

So so so so good!!! The blackened salmon sandwich is to die for. They make sure to let the quality of the fish show in this sandwich. The flavor of the fresh salmon really shines through without being masked by excessive seasoning. It is such a beautiful, simple, soul-pleasing dish! The place is a little crowded but it's all part of the experience of being in pike place market! They have seating in their open kitchen style restaurant as well as some outside. We must have come at the exact right minute because I was second in line as soon as I stepped up to get in line, which quickly grew in length to maybe ten or more by the time my order was completed. I ordered a salmon sandwich, which was a bit pricey at $16 for a sandwich but it's pikes place, what can you do. The salmon was actually the most delicious thing I'd had all day, paired with the crunch of the bread, the tangy-ness of the sauce, and the crisp flavor of tomato. I for some reason can't stand lettuce, but it wasn't hard to remove. Don't know if I would get it again because $$$ but I had a bomb experience with that sandwich, and devoured the whole thing like no one's business. Out of all the places I've tried in pike's place... I think I need to try more places, but this was up there!! read more
As seen on Delicious Destinations on the travel channel, this quaint little grill was on my husband's list of places to try on our Seattle trip. It's small and busy, we were there when they opened for lunch to insure that we got 2 of their 8 or 10 seats. The salmon sandwich was really good, we shared that and a cup of chowder that was also good. We ordered the blackened shrimp salad which was tasty but not worth the price for the 5 or six shrimp on bag lettuce. Overall good experience. read more
Maybe the salmon sandwich was the move, but it was sold out so I ordered a plate. Don't think it was fully worth $17, didn't even get all the goodies that come with the plate but I assume they just ran out, but the guy didn't really tell me. (Garlic bread and rice weren't there). The salmon wasn't that good in my opinion. I think I'm more of a fan of buttery, soft salmon. This is a little more cooked but that's up to preference. I appreciate the onions the most, and the portion of salmon is good. Just a little overhyped maybe? read more

Are you back open? Every time I stop by, y'all are closed? What are your hours?
They are for sure open I'm there every weekend. They are open 11am-3pm weekdays and 'til 4 on the weekends, but get there early in case they run out early which is a real possibility especially for the halibut.
