I love the Nordstrom Café, however it has changed. Not sure why it converted to sit down. What I'm disappointed is the change in menu. My favorite salad used to be the shrimp salad with the polenta croutons and the arugula. You can get the Cobb salad with the shrimp, but it's just not the same. I originally rated my experience lower because I was disappointed with the portion sizes for the price, and the experience left a bad impression. I tipped on the handheld device she was holding, and she simply turned away afterward without even a thank-you or acknowledgment. It felt surprisingly dismissive. That said, the food itself was genuinely good, and I appreciated that the manager took the time to respond to my original review. I think it's only fair to recognize both of those things, so I've updated my rating to 3 stars. I still feel the portions are too small for the prices, but the quality of the food and the manager's response deserve credit. We lined up to order from the cashier, self served our drinks, and then found a booth to sit in. My cashier recommended the Roma tomato basil soup, and said it's the cafe's signature soup. My friend and I each decided to order a cup of the soup. We both really enjoyed it, and when the soup was served, it came with a piece of crunchy Parmesan garlic crostini. The pairing was delicious. I also shared a truffle mushroom pizza with my friend. The pizza came with six slices covered in Alfredo sauce, Asiago, mozzarella and provolone cheese. It was just the right amount of crispy. At the end of our meal, one of the servers gave us two Nordstrom chocolates. There didn't seem to be dedicated servers for each seating area, so we needed to flag down servers as they walked by. I want to start this review off by saying I would come back just for the service!!!! Thank you Pablo!!!!! From the moment we sat down, the service was next-level. Our server, Pablo I or L (can't remember the initial of his last name) was incredibly attentive without being overbearing--our drinks would get to about half done and he was already there with a refill. That kind of care really stood out and made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. The food was good. We had the salmon Cesar salad which was fresh and satisfying, and we also tried the turkey sandwich with fries. It was simple, well done, and hit the spot. For dessert, we hadn't plan on getting anything but Pablo made the cookies sound so amazing we ended up getting the chocolate chip and snickerdoodle. Both equally yummy!!! Sad to see this place go downhill. Grew up coming here and this past time might've ruined it. Hair in food. Now they do waiters/seated service instead of waiting in line but it took 10 minutes for a waiter to come and when he did he forgot different food items and drinks. Nordstrom Cafe was one of the most nostalgic places I love to eat at. Their tomato soup and salads are amazing. I've been probably 10 times and typically it's very good. It's somewhere I like to enjoy a lunch or dinner after shopping at the mall. This most recent visit makes me not want to dine there again. The ambiance has changed to a sit down (maybe they only do that for dinner, ok whatever) but it definitely changes the uniqueness of the experience. The food (tomato soup especially) was lacking flavor. I've never had to ask for salt and pepper while dining but I was highly disappointed especially after I previously had such high expectations. I decided to get the salmon with risotto... 1. The salmon was extremely overcooked. 2. There was no risotto! They served it with couscous, which would've been fine, IF that was what I expected. My boyfriend tried to order the Santa Fe chicken sandwich which we were informed it "changed a little" from what was listed on the menu, and then our server begins to describe a completely different sandwich. I'm not sure if their menu is just extremely outdated but it needs to be updated. Other notes: our table was dirty when we sat down. Clearly not wiped between guests, and one of our forks was clearly not clean (it had packaging/paper on it? How?) For a restaurant that is in such a nice mall, I expected (and had previously received) higher quality. They get 2 stars for previously good experiences but unfortunately I will not be returning to dine here again. I hope it was just an off day because I know those happen, I just feel like nothing about how I remember it has stayed the same. Very unfortunate. :( read more

This place takes me back to my teenage years after a nice day of shopping with my grandmother. We would make it a tradition to stop at the Nordstroms cafe for the best lunch. Everything on their menu is cooked fresh made daily. My niece works here so she keeps me in the loop. The best thing is their tomato basil soup. I can not tell you how amazing this taste. It's creamy it's full of flavor and these crustini's they serve it with are pure heaven. I started ordering their simple salad because this dressing is out of this world. I've had many salads but not one place in this city has ever served me a salad dressing this spectacular. This trip i didn't order their sante fe sandwich, but I would recommend it over and over. The servers were nice but it was rather hectic and messy inside. The food itself was good. The fries were good. It tasted fresh and homemade to me. They were already out of Clam chowder when we tried to order it. This is a great spot to eat at the mall, fast casual spot. It's fairly calm and great place to stop by after shopping. Prices have definitely increased at this place. $50 + for two meals where you order at the counter and you order and tip prior to getting your meal. They no longer give you the peppermint chocolate at the end of your meal (at least they didn't give it to us). Besides that complaint, the food is quite yummy and there are healthy options. Spicy Shrimp Pomodoro was good and tasted fresh. My fiancé got the pan seared chicken with salad and loved it. You also can't go wrong with their tomato soup! We ate here yesterday. Didn't know they changed the name from Nordstrom Cafe and now they are trying to operate like a "real" restaurant with you having to wait to be seated. No more walking up to the counter and eyeing the delicious deserts and placing your order. Anyways, the food has gone downhill and so has the cafe itself. The pleather seats are ripped and shredded and there was crap all over the floor near the back corner where we sat. Ordered a French dip with fries and both the sandwich and the fries came out cold as if it had been sitting there some time before it was brought to us. Also the salmon nicoise salad had a small half of a piece of filet that was dry and didn't have that "flake" salmon is supposed to have. Ladies who Lunch! The Marketplace Cafe at Nordstrom is a little more casual now than the olden days but it still has that Special Shopping Day vibes. You order at the counter but there is full service once you choose a seat. Our server even refilled our self-service drinks. Booths are super comfortable with plenty of room for your shopping bags. The tomato and burrata salad is SO GOOD. It's seriously perfect. Clam chowder is delicious and they also offer tomato and a soup of the day. Unfortunately, this place was a big turn off to me after I had wanted to go try it for a long time. I came in the door for the first time ever and there were two women standing in ordering behind the two cash registers. I stood on the left behind them and a different woman who worked their handed me a menu and smiled. Then, as the two women ordering simultaneously walked away. I did not notice that on the right there was a long line that had been growing because I had been reading the menu. The rude young woman at the cash register told me that there was a line that I needed to get into the back of and I explained to her that I had been standing there before any of those people and that I had never been there before and I didn't know it's the line formed on the right, not the left because there was no signage. When I told her that she was still increasingly rude, and I felt as though she was treating me badly because she thought that I was an entitled white woman. At that point I walked out because I was not going to get in the back of a long line after I had already been standing there for about 10 minutes. Although I did not get a chance to try it, it was kind of cozy in there and I am sad that they don't train employees not to be so off putting. read more

On the rare occasion I've been able to leave my house with my 7 week old baby, I've taken the chance to come to the mall. Today I hardly a craving for Nordstroms Tomato soup. After ordering I sat down and realized I only had ordered my salad. I was so grateful to have sat in Alejandro's section today, he was kind and welcoming and when I explained I had forgotten to order my soup, and I offered to pay for the soup from my seat (I had my baby in a very tight spot in the restaurant to keep him from making noise and disturbing others) Alejandro let me know he would bring me soup. He not only brought me a bowl of soup but extra bread crusties! I truly appreciated his unnecessary kindness in a world that today seems very dark and harsh. My meal was superb recently!! Ordered the Santa Fe Chicken Panini with a side of Caesar salad. It was perfect for me. Panini was toasted nicely on the outside with plenty of filling inside. On the third floor 3 of the Nordstrom's department store lies the bustling but popular Marketplace Cafe. Fashion Valley is my go-to mall, however, I've never thought to dine here. The cafe was nothing out of the ordinary in terms of decor, and I didn't expect much from the food. My opinions did change once I ate. Their biscuit and clam chowder was savory and makes for a great combo if you order both. My BLT was constructed neatly and they have a great aioli that makes the sandwich better. You get to choose a side option from a salad or bbq kettle chips, and I chose their house salad. A generous portion was given on the plate and was very filling. The servers in particular are so friendly and kind and felt like I was receiving service in a restaurant environment. Apart from other cafes that you see at the mall, I'd rather go to Nordstroms for better ingredients and more options! read more

Honestly i love eating here. The food is consistently delicious and for an American bistro style cafe it's actually pretty affordable. I heard there are people that eat at Nordstrom cafe 5x a week. On any given day you'll see happy customers enjoying the space - everyone from couples splitting dessert to entire families meeting for a meal here to solo diners enjoying a glass of wine. I've even tried their kids meals here and they're really decent and inexpensive. Come with fruits and a drink. My go to is either the grilled salmon (love the roast green beans and potatoes that come with) or their grilled cheese and tomato soup combo. I've also tried the nicoise salad, the corn shrimp arugula salad, and a February special for black history month - a shrimp burger. All are amazing and the fresh vegetables in the salads are always clean and fresh, never wilted. The food seems homemade with love. read more

This place has some delicious food but I don't think I'll return any time soon. The good: the food and the waiters. It was my first time here and I ordered the Roma Tomato Basil Soup and Simple Salad. Roma Tomato Basil Soup - 8/10. I can see why many people rave about this! The bread, in particular, is really tasty and has a great, crunchy texture. The soup also has a nice flavor but I wish it was thicker Simple Salad - 10/10. It's seriously underrated. I was astounded and how delicious they made just a few ingredients tossed together. The vinaigrette added a nice, light sweetness to it and the produce tasted fresh. Why I'm not completely sold: I, personally, think this cafe is overpriced. After tax and tip, I paid $27 for a salad and a soup side. That's steep for such foods, IMO. And when I went to order, the person at the register was doing some task on it even though I was called up to order. I waited several minutes before finally getting my order in so I was annoyed that I wasn't given the opportunity to order at another register since the person at mine was taking so long with their task. I normally do not shop at Nordstrom's, but I had a gift card to use. My husband and I wanted to try out their Cafe for lunch. We walked in and it was confusing if someone seats us or what we were supposed to do. We decided to go around the corner and ask someone. We saw a sign that said to go to the register and order. We took a quick look at the menu and we both ordered a French dip with fries. We also got a drink for each of us and we ordered a slice of Boston creme pie to share. The total was about $65.00 for everything. It was a little pricey but we did feel that it was worth the value. The roast beef on the French dip was so tender, the au jus was very flavorful and not overly salty. The fries were a shoestring style and pretty tasty. I did get some ranch for my fries, their ranch was delicious. The Boston cream pie was very delicious and not overly sweet. We will definitely be back, especially since I have money left on my gift card to spend. read more

So I walked up to the register and the gal hastily pointed back at the line at the entrance of the restaurant and says, "there's a line." I responded, "I understand & I did notice the line- I'm not here to order or to be seated, I just wanted to purchase a single chocolate chip cookie for my daughter." The lady responds, "you'll have to wait in line." It was a Saturday. The line, as expected for a Saturday, was a mile long... with people wanting to ORDER, and be seated at a TABLE. I just wanted a single cookie! I wasn't trying to pull "a fast one" by not waiting in line- it was literally just a single purchase at the register for a single cookie that would have taken less than 2 minutes! read more
