We ate here after hiking all day in Waimea Canyon. The food was awesome and the service was great. The only downside is they have no seating inside nor a bathroom. It was super hot and humid outside so eating at their picnic tables was a bit uncomfortable. That being said it was still great food and would return no problem. read more

Came here from the airport on the first day of our honeymoon. We randomly picked it and couldn't have been happier. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The beers and wine available were amazing. And the food, don't even get me started I had the tempura fried ahi. It was fantastic and the portions were large for a appetizer. I wasn't blown away by anything in particular but you can definitely share some plates with others - for sure the Korean chicken: they pile it on! I don't know if it's because I'm spoiled from the available great food in LA or if it's just that this is as good as it gets in Kauai, but I have to say this place is not really deserving of anything near 4.5 stars as it currently is rated. The food here is pretty similar to the quality of a Panda Express. I'll say the only redeeming dish I had was the Loco Moco which wasn't fantastic, but it was decent. But I tried the Korean chicken and the beef teriyaki as well and they were average or below. I do have to say that in general, my food experience in Kauai seemed like the bar in general is set much lower here so maybe it's just relative. read more

It is hidden gem is tucked away in the industrial part of the city and seemed like a very local spot. We got the Mark's famous mixed plate which is comprised of chicken katsu, beef stew, beef teriyaki, rice, and macaroni salad. We shared this plate and it was just enough. They have picnic benches outside where you can hang with the chickens and roosters that roam around Kauai. The best part of the plate was the beef teriyaki, very well flavored and tender. I was craving local food and the yelp reviews led me to Mark's place. This place is located in a very industrial area so if you think you're getting lost you're not. There was a lot of good local eats to choose from and I didn't know what to order so I ordered the mixed plate. The mix plate had chicken katsu, teriyaki beef, beef stew, rice, mac salad, and under all that there was noodle. This plate was no joke. When it came out there was so much food staring at me. I did what was most familiar to me and therefore stabbed the chicken katsu. The chicken katsu was crispy and tender. The meat from the stew was also tender and hearty. The Teriyaki beef was teriyaki beef and nothing special. Surprisingly this meal was not salty and actually pretty decent. We stopped off at Mark's Place after trying to find good local food in Lihue. To quote my dad, "the best kind of food in Kauai is served in a styrofoam box". After going to Koloa Fish Market and now Mark's Place, I can honestly say that his statement is most definitely true. The restaurant is tucked away in an industrial park, and to be honest, I would probably write the whole thing off if it weren't for Yelp. Anyway, we ordered two plates of the Korean Chicken and one order of that day's special - Char siu and soba noodle salad over baby greens, soy mirin vinaigrette. The salad came with kamaboko, cha shu, and brown soba noodles. We all shared it, but if I were to get it again, I'd probably ask for another side of dressing to go with it. The plates themselves were definitely large and very generous. After splitting it between four people, we had an entire plate of Korean Chicken left. The chicken was most definitely my highlight of the meal. These bite-sized pieces of chicken were fried and smothered with a sweet sauce over a bed of chow mein, with a side of mac salad (or potato salad), and white rice. Absolutely incredible. We also walked out with a ton of pastries from their bakery. Some cookies, and huge cube of butter mochi (YUM), and some other different types of desserts. The BEST plate lunch I've ever had in my life!!!! I had the 2 item combination and chose chicken katsu and loco moco. It was super ONO!!!! Sooo good!!! The chicken was moist and white meat too..this place totally owns L&L cuz it wasn't overly crunchy..the breading on the katsu was perfect and served over a bed of noodles. The loco moco was the best I've had on the trip so far..and I've tried loco moco at several different places on the trip(L&L,kalapaki beach hut, shack shop..) They definitely make their own hamburger patties bc there's onion in the hamburger patty so its not some storebought burger. And most importantly the mac salad is really awesome!!! Its definitely home-cooked kinda stuff..REAL local food,great plate lunch for a great price too! My plate lunch was $7.75. Its a little more than what you'd pay at L&L but it is definitely worth it!! They also have "mini" size portions. Also be sure to take home a slice of lilikoi chiffon pie! Thanks to YELP we had a delicious lunch and dinner(left overs) from Marks Place. I got the Chicken Katsu/Teryaki Chicken Combo which came with lots of chicken and a big spoonful of that delicious mac salad and rice, plus some noodles that were very tasty.
