Very disappointed! My wife and I were looking forward to trying Marmo for a while but left disappointed. The service was pretty good but felt rushed to order when they made us order our meal when we ordered our appetizers. The meatballs and charcuterie were the best things we ate while we were there. My wife ordered the chicken parm and it was very thick and chewy, and the sauce was almost flavorless. I ordered the wild boar lasagna and it wasn't very good. It's not like any lasagna I have ever had. I don't know if it had any sauce or cheese in it I couldn't make out the flavors. Since it's not like a regular lasagna they should really put a description on the menu. read more

We had reservations for our anniversary dinner. Valet was nowhere to be seen and when they finally showed up, they were in bad moods and didn't seem to want our business so we parked in the garage. The hostesses were so nice and wished us happy anniversary and promptly led us to our table. The restaurant is beautiful. We loved our table and the giant menus are great for anyone with impaired vision. Our waiter arrived and we started to plan the meal. The music was really loud and our waiter had a soft voice so communication was an issue throughout the evening. I don't blame him - the waiter shouldn't have to shout at the customers. Turn down the music! But the the music was great! The piano player and his wife are so talented but I came to eat, not for a concert. Back when Marmo first opened, I was SUCH a fan. Spent multiple anniversaries and birthdays at this restaurant. But after my visit yesterday evening, I was SO disappointed. 1. They decided for that day only they wouldn't do their daily happy hour. (Huge bummer, but it is what it is). 2. We use to love their beef tartare, but we loved it when they had 4 pieces of delicious bread with the beef on top- it was the perfect ratio. But idk WHO had the idea to change it to a slab shaped like a raw patty on a plate with the most stale tasting crackers need to be FIRED. (Also not enough crackers for how much beef they give). 3. The "glass" of wine pictured. It honestly speaks for itself. How embarrassing to serve a glass this light with a straight face. Like come ON. I looked around the restaurant to see if I was being targeted, but it appeared to be consistent with everyone else who ordered a glass of wine. 4. The serving portion- for my pasta and my boyfriend's duck dish. These dishes are our go to every time we go, so it was OBVIOUS they aggressively downsized their portions- like is the economy THIS bad?? 5. Took a noticeably long amount of time to receive things we ordered and the wait staff were overwhelmed. Our waitress was doing the best she could. After already sitting for 45 minutes, the server comes back to the table asking if it's our first time in and giving us a rundown of the restaurant. Which I thought was strange as typically that's the first thing said when first sitting down. My drink was ok, not strong enough in my opinion. The bread was unsalted along with the butter. I didn't understand the pairing with the Parmesan? The Caesar salad was very salty and peppery. My date asked for ginger ale, they brought out what tasted like tonic water mixed with ginger. The lobster ravioli had an overpowering taste of lemon and my dates steak had a glaze on top that he was not informed about prior to ordering. I highly recommend Marmo for their great service and delicious food. We started off with the charcuterie board which was really good and our waiter curated the cheeses he thought we would enjoy. We got the ribeye to share which was so good and cooked to perfection. The sauce honestly I felt like we didn't even need (we got the bone marrow steak sauce). Then we ordered some pastas and honestly could've all ordered the half portions because the full was a lot of pasta. Especially if you are doing family style and sharing plates. I mainly ate the spicy vodka pasta which was delicious and definitely had a kick! Overall, great ambiance with live music. The dinner rolls are the soft white bread type almost like bread off the store shelf. I'm sure they are made in-house but I prefer something a little more substantial and "bready". Also note that the establishment is extremely loud. A tremendous amount of background noise I think due to the acoustics of the room and if you have issues hearing conversation when there is a lot of background noise, then beware. Both were scrumptious and perfect openers to our meal. We each order a different steak, one a NY strip mr, another order filet mr, and I, the Wague special mr. I was torn between the duck and the special. But who goes to a steak house and orders duck? Me the next time. My steak is, unfortunately, overcooked and challenging to chew. This was first time coming to this restaurant and I was not impressed. We had reservations a week in advance, yet still waited 45 minutes without any compensation. There was an empty table that they said they were preparing for us but after 15 minutes of watching no activity, we had to fuss at them to please prepare our table. Service was slow. The menu was not extensive, only 2 pages which is ok with about 10 unique pasta dishes. I spent a long time at home exploring the menu and picked two dishes. When I tried to order them, they were both sold out and the only excuse was "it's the weekend". So 20% of the menu was sold out. Had we been seated on time, maybe I would have something I actually wanted. The dish that was substituted was flavorless and bland(lamb). The beet salad was so salty and my daughter's Caesar salad was soggy. Cocktails were unimpressive and cake was dry. At approximately $100/person you would expect better. My husband and I always wanted to come here since from the outside - the vibes look great. Unfortunately this place disappointed on a few marks. Starting with the upsides, the service and ambiance is spectacular. We went during Valentine's Day - and the service was still great even though it was so busy. The ambiance was perfect. The decor and vibes of this place is beautiful. They had a great pianist covering songs and it was gorgeous. Now onto the downsides of the food. The food to me was just not worth the high price tag for the ambiance and service. The oysters were with subpar at best since they were more room temp or even warm - if I'm having raw oysters it taste significantly better and fresh if it's served over ice/cold. The bruschetta bruschetta was amazing tho! For the pasta, the lobster ravioli again was sub par - the filling wasn't that great or creamy and the sauce wasn't that flavorful. On contrary to this, the squid ink pasta was quite good. I just don't think a hit or miss on dishes is worth the $300 meal we had here. read more

It started off great with easy parking in the garage underground. The Stella Rose was yummy and the octopus was delicious but the gnocchi was not so great. The texture was off, dense and it was very, very dry. I had to ask for more of the pesto sauce and that still did not make it enjoyable. In my opinion, the pesto sauce was not very flavorful. We went to Marmo for happy hour and we were so happy we did. We ordered almost all of the happy hour menu items and our favorite by far was the meatballs. Terrific service, far and above what I've come to expect in post-pandemic Houston. Truly top notch and I'm already planning my next visit. The steaks are amazing, if not a little rich. All of the pastas are individual and show how good handmade pasta can be. The squid ink pasta is a home run. The desserts are oddly not great, but so much else is good it still gets the best review. They have valet parking and it is a disaster, but I think the parking is provided by the building and not the restaurant. Either way, the valet situation needs some help. I absolutely loved the food and ambiance Marmo had to offer! From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the manager and sat down by our friendly host. Everything thing we ate was delicious!! We started off with the Crab Bruschetta and also had the Beef Tenderloin, Squid Ink Campanelle, and Tortellini. All was tasty and we cleaned out plates but I must say the Beef tenderloin was my favorite because it was cooked perfectly to my liking thanks to the suggestion of our wonderful waiter Cole. He made our dining experience enjoyable. He was able to answer all my questions about the menu and make great suggestions. He was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Marmo 7:15 PM: Valentine's Day I was impressed by the ambiance. The dining room was well lit and the ambiance was warm and inviting. It wasn't too loud and the bar and wine room are very nicely situated and add to dining experience. The Waiter came by quick enough and was friendly but we did sit without bread and water for close to 15 minutes. When bread did arrive, it was a slice of cold bread no larger than my palm accompanied by what appeared to be crumbs of parmigiana regiana which were quite uninspiring as they served absolutely no purpose. I'm otherwise they complimented absolutely nothing. CORSINI This gin drink was just poorly made or just a poorly executed concept. It was just a very muted lemon pineapple drink that just tasted incredibly sour and off. There were no hints of sweet that you would expect from the supporting layers of the drink. This added with the fact that the drink, which is made with egg whites, was mostly foam, is definitely a reason I will be recommending forgoing this drink if you chose to dine at Marmo 0/5 TUNA TARTAR The tuna tar tar was just plain awful. I'm not sure if this was a Valentine's day creation or a regular menu item, but I truly hope it is not on the permanent menu. The dish was Incredibly acidic and tasted of straight vinegar. The topping was two thin slices of plain red radish that seemed incredibly misplaced and just had no flavor. They just did nothing for the dish, if the chef was trying to add a crunch element to the dish he would have been better going with almost anything else. The avocado was speckled and appeared to be a bit aged and not in good way. The Fresno chili added provided a good amount of heat and accompanied the fish well, but on a dish that was a complete flop this is not saying much nor was it enough to save the dish 0/5 LOBSTER RAVIOLI The lobster ravioli was ABYSMAL! Abysmal, disgusting and the reason I will be forgoing Valentine's Day dinners in the future. The dish was incredibly lack luster and the filling was dense and completely riddled with shells. The sauce was just lacking any form of seasoning, no salt whatsoever. There was a hint of lemon that would have paired nicely with the ravioli, but for the fact that it was devoid of any other seasoning, just made the dish taste like it had gone bad. I did not finish this dish because it was so under seasoned and just gross. While the dish was completely worth being sent back for the amount of shell I pulled out of it alone, the very minor positive note was that the chefs were generous with the presentation of lobster meat that covered the top of the dish. This lobster meat was pretty decent, it was still under seasoned, but better than the other parts of the dish and it was cooked to the right consistency you would expect from a good poached lobster. Additionally the other minor positive was that the portion was more than most restaurants of this caliber usually provide which would have garnered incredibly high marks in my book, but it was simply a large portion of bad ravioli 0/5 TIRAMISU I would like to preface this section by claiming that I am not typically a desert person. It takes quite an exceptional, unique, or nostalgic food item for me to get excited about desert. In full transparency I also consulted with my boyfriend before reviewing this item to give it a fair review, as he is quite the fan of tiramisu and one whose judgement I trust completely. I thought the dish was ok, he agreed that it was ok, but there were problems with the dish that we both agreed on. When eating, the dish is served in a chilled bowl. This choice in presentation resulted in the dish being much more saturated in the middle than the rest of the dish, so the desert was dry on the sides and completely inundated in the middle. This error was compounded by the fact that the liquid component of the dish, traditionally espresso, appeared completely watered down and was not strong at all. It just tasted like watered down coffee. So the conclusion that we both came to was, that the dish was ok, but that individuals that typically enjoyed tiramisu, would be disappointed 1/5 Overall, for the quality of the food this restaurant really seems like it is more of a "prestige" spot that is not necessarily worth the price you are paying for the quality of food you are receiving. Food is PHENOMENAL! I got the pistachio tortellini and I cannot recommend it enough! The oysters are fresh and delicious. There's usually a pianist and singer across the bar. The ambience and location is great as well. Marmo is located in a new shopping center in Montrose area. There's all kinds of shops around there that you can explore before or after your meal. You have a great view no matter where you're sitting There's complimentary valet but it's usually VERY busy so expect a little wait. I had a glass of red wine & my friend had one of the tequila drinks. We both enjoyed our drinks. For apps we had a half dozen oysters, the horseradish concoction it's served with was really good, plus a little bit of lemon juice goes a long way. For meal I got a half order of the rigatoni alla vodka pasta & a half order of the smoked ricotta gnocchi, was impressed by both although the gnocchi was not what I was expecting. My friend had the special steak, it was very delicious. Also tried the mushrooms which were just ok. The service was good, waiters always came by to check on us & refill waters. This was my experience at Marmo: My friend and I (People of Color) had an early reservation. We were seated on the smaller side of the partition that divides the dining area roughly into three quarters and one quarter. At the time, there were several open tables in the main dining area. On the smaller side of the partition, there was one other table seated (4 women of color). As my friend and I left the restaurant roughly an hour after our reservation, we noticed that on the other side of the partition (the main dining area), every table was occupied by white patrons. Regarding the food itself, I found the prices to not reflect the value provided. We were charged $16 for sparking water for two people. The full serving of the scarpinocc ($46) provided roughly 6 bites of food. Similarly, the crescent duck was decent did not fit the price tag. Marmo charges upscale prices but doesn't quite fit the bill as an upscale restaurant. Hopefully in the future, their waitstaff will be more mindful of how they seat people of different demographics. I would not return to Marmo based on my experience and the value of the items on the menu. read more
