Be very careful when purchasing here if you want fresh bread. The last two times my husband and I have bought here. We get so disappointed when we get home. Bc half of our bread is nice and soft fresh of the day. And half stiff possibly yesterday's bread. It's very frustrating to get home and want every single kid to have the same experience with what they're about to eat. Even myself. If you ask me. I am not from the area but I found this gem of a bakery. I went in to possibly buy 5 dozen bolio rolls. They had them and they were fresh and delicious. I also brought the jalapeno and cheese rolls, equally delicious. The lady that helped me was very nice and helpful. The owner, Ms. Martha herself, is very rude and cranky. She can be extremely aggressive and downright insulting if she's in one of her moods. Maybe it's her age, but that's definitely no way to act when it's your own business you're representing and when you're interacting with patrons who are supporting your business. The pan dulce itself is nothing special. I've had much better conchas at other bakeries in the nearby area. I feel like it's because the next nearest bakery is in the same plaza as the Jon's that a lot of my fellow Van Nuys residents put up with this mediocre bakery. read more

It's been a while since I shopped at this bakery. And today , so disappointed ! :-/ disappointed by the quality of the bread. Their "conchas" are now so light and hollow on the inside, feels like you're biting on paper lol. No lie !!! Bolillos too. Great little place. They have much better tasting tamales at lower prices than anywhere else in the area. Everything is fresh and the owners are bilingual. Worth checking out if you want cheap sweet bread, tamales, tortas, and they even have flan and other desserts! This is also the only place that I know of that carries the larger Guatamalen/Peruvian style tamales wrapped in banana leaves in addition to the regular ones. read more

Late post. My husband and I went to this bakery yesterday around 8:30pm. There was a long line. Thankfully, people got their order fast and were on their way. The only man I saw working there was very nice, patient and welcoming. The pastries are very delicious, fresh and there's a large variety of sweat bread. I live in Glendale and I have to say I will drive to this place. The prices are awesome. I spent 10 dollars worth of bread and got over 10 pastries. I heard of this place by a Friend, they say they are happy with the location because it's well maintained, sanitized, and decent. I couldn't agree more. The navigation system took us directly to this place without issues. It is semi hidden in plaza so, keep an eye out. I wish this place nothing but, success. I hope they continue to provide sweet bread for a reasonable price. read more

I came to Martha's bakery because a customer of mine recommended it. He said the bread is so soft and sweet it melts in your mouth. After he said that, I had to check it out. I went in Sunday morning around 9 am. The line went fast. Each bread is a different price and very reason able. I got about a dozen of mix sweet bread and 6 Bolios. The total was $8.50! I was like what a bargain. When I tasted one of my many breads I was so glad i checked them out. I had my bread with some coffee and it was to die for. I am definitely coming back here. One of my favorite Mexican Bakeries! They have a variety of breads... they are all DELICIOUS!! Oh and when it comes to special occasions their cakes are of the top. I love their 3 leches cake, their chocolate mocha, and their marble cakes.. YUMMMMM.. oh and their Rosca de Reyes is one of the best I've ever had! ..... For valentines day I've asked them to make me a heart shaped bread for my father, his favorite type of bread is the cuernito (croissant like bread) , Marthas Bakery has always made a large heart shaped bread made of the cuernito mix for me. Bince is incredible. He makes the best toast, if you doubt me, tell him Leo and David said to ask for the toast, it's off the menu but is the bomb. Alex, he makes things happen. The service is great and they seem to have an endless supply of bread all the time. It's warm, fresh, and cannot be beat.
