We also got a Peach Iced Tea, we needed something refreshing. I wasn't thrilled with it, I tasted green tea too much, which I am not a fan. I will skip their iced teas for now on. Loyal Customer, but This Experience May Have Lost My Business I've been a loyal customer of 85°C Bakery Cafe in Sherman Oaks for quite some time and buy virtually all of my baked goods here, so it's disappointing to write this review. Yesterday August 6th was my dad's 99th birthday, and I wanted to make it special. At around 10 a.m., I ordered his birthday cake through the app for a 4 p.m. pickup and used the customization option to request "Happy Birthday" writing on the cake. I arrived around 4:30 p.m. and initially there was no one at the counter. I could see an employee off to the side drinking a coffee. He saw me waiting but didn't acknowledge me and instead went to the back and sent out another employee. From the moment she came out, the interaction was surprisingly unpleasant. I explained that I was picking up the birthday cake I had ordered that morning and gave her my name. She retrieved the box and then abruptly asked, "Where's your confirmation?" I explained that I wasn't sure what she needed because I only had the email I received. I showed it to her, and after looking at it for quite a while, she said "fine" and pushed the cake box toward me. I asked whether the Happy Birthday message I requested was on the cake. She said no and that the person who does the writing wasn't there. I explained that I had placed the order that morning specifically for my dad's 99th birthday and really wanted the birthday message included. I showed my request on the order email. Instead of trying to resolve it, she began helping other customers while I was left standing there. After waiting and explaining that I was already late for my dad's birthday, she eventually went to the back, returned with a small chocolate "Happy Birthday" piece, and placed it on top of the box. That solution was perfectly fine with me--I just wish it had been handled graciously from the beginning. I then asked for a cake cutter and candles, which employees here have routinely offered with cake purchases in the past. Again, I was ignored while other customers were helped. When I repeated that I was late and needed to leave, she rolled her eyes and told me to wait until she was finished with another customer. Eventually she brought them over and simply piled everything on top of the cake box rather than putting the items in a bag. Everyone can have a bad day, and I try to be understanding of that. But the dismissive attitude, eye rolling, repeatedly ignoring me in the middle of our interaction, and general lack of courtesy were unacceptable. What should have been a simple and happy pickup for my dad's 99th birthday became unnecessarily stressful and put a real damper on my afternoon. What makes this particularly disappointing is that I wasn't an occasional customer--I've been very loyal to this bakery. I love the baked goods and have consistently chosen 85°C over other bakeries. But customer service matters too, and after this experience I'm seriously considering finding another bakery for our family's cakes and baked goods. read more

It was mid day and girl was tiredddd. Had to stop into the. mall for something and walked by 85. I am obsessed with Vietnamese coffee so it was an easy decision. It is only available as a large and I got an extra shot. While it was DELICIOUS, it was literally just a few sips. The cup was so light it was like nothing was even in it. I finished before I even got back to my car. Didn't get to try any of the bakery items but it smelled soooo good! read more

They also had a promotion where you buy 2 strawberry drinks and get a free magnet. Looks like the magnets were pretty nice too. We actually had a big order. 8 drinks and 4 of them were strawberry. First, I had to actually ask for the magnet, otherwise I wouldn't have received it. Second, they only gave me one, because the magnet is per order, regardless of the total strawberry drinks. The employee did mention if I split the order I would've received 2 promotional magnets. I would say thats terrible marketing lol. After some shopping, we decided to grab a couple drinks, some pastries and relax -- 85 was calling! All the baked goods were packaged and arranged neatly. I can't get enough of the sweet scent of fresh bread. We picked a few of our favorites and a couple new ones. We then ordered the Strawberry Matcha Latte and Mango Green Tea. Both came out quickly. They were so refreshing and so good! Interestingly, we found them more flavorful than the Santa Clarita location. Where to begin with today's interaction with an employee by the name of Axel? We wanted to get a birthday cake and saw that we had coupons in the app. We asked the employee if he knew what the 50% in the app qualified for as it didn't state anything but "VIP Birthday SL 50% OFF" in the description. We asked if he could scan it to see if it qualified for anything we purchased. He hesitantly scanned and said it didn't qualify for anything that was rung up. We asked him if he knew what the coupon qualified for and he said you have to use the points. Points for a 50% off coupon? We told him the points usually qualify for a free item (drink, toast, cake, etc.) not for a percentage off an item. Flustered and annoyed, he just walked away and said, "I don't know. I don't know what it's for." Maybe ask someone? Asking for clarity, he said, "do you want me to ask someone?" Yes, maybe you should. When he finally asked his manager, he said the coupon was for 50% off a slice of cake. That's all we needed to know. We were ok that the items we were purchasing didn't qualify. We just wanted to know what it DID qualify for. For the time it took for him to be annoyed and not answer, he could've just simply asked someone. It could've been a teaching moment so the next person he helps who might have the same question, he would've been able to answer them. If management is reading this, please teach/train your employees on promotions and offers as this will help with efficiency with the line and ultimately the customer experience as this wasn't a great one. read more

Consistent bread quality. Brioche is my all time favorite and the marbled taro comes second. Their new mochi taro is also ridiculously good!! Calories written on all bread signs Sometimes people will mess up the signs so make sure to read them and match. Service is always quick. My all time favorite drink here is the sea salt jasmine milk tea! Their grapefruit green tea is also very nice. They offer season pastries and drinks that are more unique like pumpkin spice milk tea, YUM. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On sundays they close at 7pm with the mall :( so early. There are multiple locations of this business and I've been to several of them. They're consistent and their pastries are fresh. I believe their iced Vietnamese coffee is delish! And so is their iced strawberry matcha and iced taro lavender latte. They do a nice job at what they do. Staff is always friendly. Like they're beautifully presented but the taste is just mid. Hands down BEST coffee I've had in la. I've been trying to find somewhere to that has coffee that is strong, delicious, affordable, and doesn't taste like every other coffee spot and I've finally found one. I got a large Brown Sugar Oat Milk Latte and it was made with the right amount of everything, perfectly sweet and flavorful, while you can still taste the espresso. This is a MUST try! I got a large which was a good size and it was $6.50, which is a great price for LA. I also got a garlic pastry which was soo good I should've gotten more given they are only like $2.50. I've been to many 85 degree bakeries across LA, and this one is not the best. Every time I come here, I feel like the selection is lacking compared to other locations. Last night, we stopped by and they were out of boba. We ordered Thai tea and taro smoothies anyway. The Thai tea was extremely watered down, to the point where I couldn't even finish it. The taro smoothie was better but definitely on the sweeter side. The servers are nice but it takes quite a bit of time to get your drinks even though I've never seen this place busy. Oh no the app booted my wife out and she has no idea what the login is and the forgot password form does nothing. Ok I'll sign up for an account. 10 minutes later after passing the password requirements, email verification, etc, I try to make the order in the app. Wait why no discount? The cashier explains to me that the discount only works a DAY AFTER creating the account, a detail conveniently not mentioned ten minutes ago. Seriously the worst experience and a horrible waste of time ordering a bunch of drinks THREE TIMES (kiosk, app, then finally, at the cashier). The baked goods were fine, but the customer service was disappointing. My partner bought two boxes of taro rolls and a few other items. After paying, we noticed the total was unusually low. The cashier had rung them up as two individual items instead of two boxes. No problem. We went back to the counter to correct the mistake because that's the right thing to do. During the refund process, the card machine gave an error multiple times. Instead of calmly explaining or troubleshooting, the cashier became rude and repeatedly insisted my partner was not using the same card, even though he was. There was no acknowledgment of the original mistake and no appreciation for the honesty, which made the interaction completely unnecessary. Mistakes happen, but how staff respond matters. This experience helps explain the poor customer service mentioned in other reviews, and based on this interaction alone, we will not be returning. Since I had my eyes dilated, I had trouble seeing some of the items. My daughter pointed out what the items I was interested in were. I chose the red bean paste muffin. It was unbelievable! We went to Sherman Oaks on a shopping errand and wound up treating ourselves to some glorious treats. If you're in the area, treat yourself. I'm a big fan of 85 and all of their locations. This one is located inside the mall. But right at the entrance near the parking structure so it's cool. The wait was a bit long because they only had one guy making drinks. My order was wrong. But I just mentioned it to the barista and he fixed it. I got what I wanted and I was out quick. We've gone here many times, hoping that we'd get one...just one...experience like the ones we always have at the Glendale location. Here's what we've gotten thus far: 1) a hair in our pastry. I took one bite and thank goodness I missed digesting the hair by centimeters. The employee didn't apologize or anything, heavens no, so we stood there awkwardly and the standoff ended with us asking for an exchange (same pastry of course). She immediately said, "fine but you need to leave the other pastry here." Yes lady, we who buy $15-$20 worth of food & drink whenever we come here are trying to finagle a free treat (eye roll). 2) I order a latte with 3 Splenda every time I come - keep in mind this place usually opens 30 minutes before the Starbucks down the way. And every time...there's no Splenda. So I ask, and they give it (it's not out, you need to ask for condiments), and I take the little stirring stick and do it myself. Sounds petty, but lattes aren't cheap, so if I ask for the sweetener inside the coffee as I like it, I really mean it. One time I asked if my 3 Splenda were in the latte and the same employee who was delusional about the subpar hairy treat situation replied, "Yeah, I put one." 3) The selection of treats at any given time is always lacking. Stuff isn't stocked or labeled. One employee came out to put some treats on the line and I asked if there were any tarts in the back, or if any were being made. She shrugged, stepped away, and said she didn't know. Look, 85 degrees isn't a bad establishment as an overall chain. I just think this location is the worst I've ever been to. Last week I watched 3 teenage girls from the local high school open their cake boxes, only to find that the employee gave them the wrong cake slices. So today, I just walked around the mall before they open since I came early. When they finally started opening the store, I was the first customer inside. I got my wife her jalapeno cheese bread because they will sell out quick since it's popular. I stopped by this location which is in the Sherman Oaks mall and wanted to grab a snack. Like most responsible adults I wanted to wash my hands before eatting. I asked for a bathroom code and was denied saying I would need to buy something first... I told the worker I was just washing my hands and planned to buy after - and she again denied so I suggested your rule is I have to take food into bathroom? How healthy is that? I don't believe thier management realize they are in a mall with plenty of free bathrooms and to deny a shopper access when you have a bathrooms and Starbucks down the hall is bad business. This 85° bakery is located inside Westfield Fashion Square and it was different from all the other 85° bakeries I've been to. This is the only one I've seen inside of a mall. I'm sure there's probably others in a mall, but this one is a really small location. Parking is not an issue and in a parking garage and then the bakery is really close to the parking garage, so there's not really a long walk to the entrance. When we visited it was about an hour left before they closed down the bakery and no fresh bread was being made. They did not have a lot of options to choose from since the lines were a little long and they were no longer making any new fresh bread. I can understand if they did not have a lot of customers, but this one is in the mall and they have a high traffic so it's weird that they wouldn't still be making fresh bread. I was bummed because I wanted to take home bread to the family. We were able to get bread to take home, but they did not look as fresh as the other locations. I don't foresee us coming back to this location any time soon. If we want 85° bakery then we will probably go to another location. If you just want a couple of items then this would be a good bakery, but if you're like us and like to bring home baked goods for family and friends then don't stop at this one because they don't have a wide variety, the lines are long, and the store is small so there's not a lot of elbow room.
