Went here on a cruise. I had looked up for some places to eat & this is the one we wanted to try. Upon arrival the restaurant was closed! My was family questioned my planning, but I had gotten the info off google. I read the paper on the door entrance stating they were closed & would reopen at 4pm. Four is when the boat leaves, why would a place of business close when tourists are in town to spend $$ & open when we leave?? We experienced this too often in Key West. Do not order the Catch of the Day. This evening my family and I had dinner at Viva Argentinian Steakhouse. We've dined here several times, are part-time locals, and have always returned because the food has typically been well prepared. Tonight, however, I ordered the Catch of the Day (grouper), and it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. The first piece of fish was so overcooked it was hard as a rock. It was nearly impossible to cut with a knife. I sent it back. The replacement came out raw in the center. At that point, my family had already finished their meals, and I didn't want them waiting while the kitchen attempted a third piece of fish, so I told the server I no longer wanted it. As we waited for the check, another plate of fish was brought to the table. I again explained that I didn't want it. That's when the manager came over and told us he had it cooked some more and that we had only two options: eat it or take it home--but either way, we were paying for it. He said the restaurant had already spent money on the fish and added, "This isn't a free dinner." That comment was astonishing. No one was asking for a free dinner. I simply expected not to be charged for an entrée that was first inedible because it was severely overcooked, then undercooked, and ultimately never eaten - see photos of final serving. We paid the bill, left the untouched fish behind, and left disappointed. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding the Catch of the Day. The texture of the fish in the photos was stringy and rubbery rather than flaky, raising serious questions about its quality and preparation. Whether it was fresh or not, it certainly wasn't prepared to an acceptable standard. The food was disappointing and the manager's response was even more so. A restaurant's true measure isn't how it handles perfect meals--it's how it handles mistakes. read more

Why go to an Argentinian steakhouse just to have a key lime pie and prosecco? Why not? There's no law! And the outdoor seating looked inviting and offered a break from walking and views of lively Duval street. The pie was very good with slightly tangy lime, a thick graham crust, and decorated with powdered sugar, whipped cream and a fruit sauce. Not that meringue crap that seems to be the fashion in Key West. The prosecco was served in an authentic champagne flute, cold and bubbly, with the remainder in the small bottle enough for a second glass. I stayed for a while, checked on by the waiter once or twice, with no pressure to order more or leave, read, watched the street scene, and perused the menu. A very interesting menu, heavy on the steaks of course (and not outrageously priced as far as steaks go) but with lots of other offerings including seafood and vegetarian. And many interesting cocktails, standards and unique. Unlike most Argentinian steakhouses this is not the kind where they keep bringing trays of various meats around which you can choose to sample or not. I'm not into that. It's more of the typical dining experience of appetizers, entrees, and so on. Everything appealed and I would have loved to have a meal here but the timing wasn't right and I had other plans. read more

The coconut shrimp was good. The sauce served with it was tasty but wish they put it in a serving cup instead of splattered on the plate under the shrimp. Unfortunately, the Caesar salad was disappointing. The lettuce was brown, so I didn't eat it (1/5). The ribeye was also a letdown. It arrived overcooked and dry, not what you expect from a steakhouse (1/5). The mashed potatoes and carrots were solid (4/5). Service significantly impacted the experience. We waited 35 minutes for our food, and when it arrived the appetizer, salad, and entrée all came out at the same time. After finishing, our plates were cleared but we then waited another 20 minutes for the check before I finally had to get up and ask for it. Overall, between the food execution and the service delays, the experience fell short. There are far better options on the island. read more

Made a reservation online sat immediately to wait 10+ mins for someone to come out and once he did he asked if we had been waiting a while "yes" he said he was told to come to us not welcoming at all! We ordered our drinks which I assumed was a happy hour but it was not apparently. We ordered our food, the steak left a lot to be desired for a $50 filet it should be tender and not pulling pieces out of your mouth. When the waiter FINALLY came back to check on us asked my husband how was the steak he said "it's okay, not much" the waiter said I'm sorry I should have check on you 2 bites in and something along the lines of they tell us what to do in this situation and went to the bartender possibly a manager but nothing was done but offer us a key lime pie. Not expecting anything free but also maybe take the salad (8.00) or something off but they could have cared less.. spend your $$ somewhere else, sit at the bar (which apparently is only where happy hour is offered) or be sure not to eat more than 2 bites if you are not happy even if no one comes back to check in on you! read more
