I brought in my jacket to get some holes in the pocket and the inner lining patched. When I picked it up and got home, I realized they hadn't patched the holes on the inside at all. And instead of cleanly sewing the end of the pocket with a machine, it looked like they tried to hand-sew it quickly -- messy stitching, bunched fabric, and the holes still there. My girlfriend brought it back to ask if they could fix it. They took it and returned it with the bare minimum effort: they only patched the inside liner holes, and even that looked sloppy. Loose threads everywhere, uneven fabric -- honestly looked like something I made in 7th grade Home Ec. When I went back again to try to get it corrected, Sam acted like the work was fine and told me to just take it somewhere else. They also botched a hole repair in a pair of pants I brought in previously. They're okay for basic cleaning, but they're not tailors and they don't seem interested in doing things the right way. Instead of saying, "Yeah, that doesn't look right, we'll fix it," they'd rather push you off to another shop. If you need repairs done well, either do it yourself or take it somewhere else. read more

My family and I have been utilizing their services for years now. They are a great tailor/dry-cleaning spot with fair prices which can be rare to find in the city. I have used asked them to tailor a variety of my clothes and have always come out of it satisfied. Most recently, I had them clean some white pants to remove dirt on them, but they were not able to fully hence the deducted star. This drycleaners is one I would avoid personally. I do empathize with the owners of this place because the Fillmore has not always been as quiet as it is now but the overall vibe I got from here made me keep searching for a higher level of professionalism from my dry cleaners. I had brought in a few items to be altered and although we did discuss at length the style I was looking to achieve when I got the garment back it was not what I expected. I did not argue at all simply paid and left it as a lesson. Essentially what I was attempting to accomplish was to make a pair of track pants into a more modern cut. What I got back was high water pants which were essentially useless to me and I believe I ended up donating. I also brought in a suit that I wanted altered and I was upsold on how I should just buy a new one. Not exactly what I like to hear when I am able and willing to spend money... Overall this place is a place I would be weary of being of African decent. You're as likely to get your items done incorrectly as you are to have them not do them at all. Clean and press I would bring by for that only but any sort of alterations I would shop around. As you can see from my other reviews I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately in The Bay Area...However! This is by far the absolute BEST dry cleaners in the city! I grew up in the neighborhood so my family and I have been loyal customers for years. Customer service is impeccable. Sam is the nicest guy ever and is always asking about my family and how I'm doing. It really makes me feel there's still a piece of my original hometown left. I have a lot of clothes that require dry cleaning because I love delicate fabrics and I have NEVER been disappointed! I no longer live in the immediate area but will drive all the way there to drop off several items at a time. From dresses, pants, blouses, skirts, heavy coats and light jackets, my clothes are always clean, nicely pressed, smelling fresh and like new. They do a great job with pleated items, leather, lace and silk. I occasionally need to replace a zipper, fix a hole or add a button and it's done without issue. I went to a cooking class for a team offsite and silly enough wore a white sweater to the event. My coworker ended up spilling red wine all over me and my favorite sweater. It was quite tragic and I was concerned that my favorite sweater was permanently DOOMED. Literally there was red wine stains all over the sweater and it looked like I was part of an aftermath in a horror film. I took my sweater over to Progress Cleaners and Sam was beyond helpful! I showed him my wrecked sweater and surprising enough, Sam was confident that he can fix it! A few days later, my white sweater is completely spotless with zero wine stains. Talk about a miracle! I have been coming to Sam's cleaner for more than a decade. I haven't experienced any problems. Sam and his family are all super friendly! And the results are great every time! This is a local business I would want to support. My office actually moved out of the neighborhood. But I drive back to Fillmore when I have dry cleaning laundry to do, because their work is consistently good. I know some Yelpers are just overly dramatic. Buttons....I don't know how one does it, but on multiple occasions, they have broken the buttons on my shirts. And these are nice dress shirts! At first I thought it might be the shirt, but it's happened to multiple shirts - different brands. And without the buttons it really doesn't matter if you have a crisp ironed shirt at work or any other formal event. Does anyone know how to sew? read more

This is the worst alteration experience I EVER had! I brought them one pair of pants I wanted hemmed. It was $15, which would've been reasonable if the job was at least decent. Instead of sewing the pants all the way around, the seamstress only sewed a couple of stitches on each of the pant legs. Although the length is good, I'm pretty sure the stitches will come out after just one wash, which means I'll have to pay someone else to redo the job. I haven't tried their dry cleaning, but I wouldn't go back to this place even though it's only a couple of blocks from my house. read more

I used to go to European Cleaners, in the Safeway parking lot mall a block away, and Progress Cleaners beats them hands down in all respects. In comparison, the collars are better pressed, the cleaning more thorough, store much cleaner, communication better, and service much better. And the price is the same. It amazes me what a difference there can be between two cleaners within a block of each other; it seems that the probably-hourly employees at European have the "don't care much about doing a good job" attitude, while Sammy at Progress has an owner's attitude of providing good personalized service with a smile. This isn't to say all is perfect; the alterations are not as sturdy as they could be, and occasionally collars aren't pressed just right. But I can tolerate those minor issues much more easily than walking a few blocks out of my way to the more expensive cleaners further north. read more

Awesome! The only Place on Fillmore that had the capacity to press my black shirt without making it "shiny". I was running late for work (on my day off) and I had to wear a shirt that was balled up I. The back seat of my girlfriends car from days previous. Frantically running around in dire need of an iron these lovely people were able to press my black shirt on location in 10 minutes and truly saved the day. Like really I can't work with wrinkles on my shirt. I will go crazy. I have opted to have them clean my shirts and they were willing to let me take them a shirt at a time so I can just grab one and go into work.. Amazing. It's like that moment in life when you feel like you have everything finally figured out. Did an excellent job ironing my shirt and they did lint roll it. It seems a lot of cleaners in the city give you back your black shirts and expect you to lint roll them? Not these guys 10/10 read more

Super service at this dry cleaners! Sam always greets you with a smile even when he has a line out the door. They are always on time with your cleaning and they have always done an outstanding job. When you go in they ask you detailed questions regarding your items and they give you your receipt- which you must keep to claim your items... I don't think that is too much to ask. The prices are very competitive with most other cleaners but I choose to give them my business. One thing they can improve on is the hemming/altering. Great service and high quality. Out of all the places I've been to, these guys have had among the most consistent quality. My shirts always come back in good shape, the collars well cleaned, and they have never caused any damage to any of my clothes. I see some reviews about damaged buttons from around 2009 and that's a big worry of mine, but it seems like they've resolved that and I can testify that that problem has not occurred in the many times that I've been there. Leave your clothes at your own risk is right (quoting another review). I used to live around the corner and brought my things in because it was convenient. Then I moved to Oakland and came back a few times because I had left some things there, the price is reasonable, etc. Two visits ago I came in days after my items were supposed to be done and they were not ready. Wasted a trip to San Francisco, bridge toll, time, etc. and did not get my items before heading out on a vacation for 3 weeks. When I picked up the items, one of which was a chenille throw, they had hung it over a wire hanger for a month and when I unpacked it there were lines seared into the fabric from the hanger. Sam's advice was to brush them out or use a steamer. On that trip I also brought in a king sized bed skirt that had been custom made and match some other bedding I got from a designer who had decorated a home in NM for me. I SPECIFICALLY POINTED OUT THE TAG THAT SAID "LINE DRY ONLY" to Sam the owner. He assured me that the way his laundry dried things and ironed them it would not shrink. Made another trip back to the city to pick it up, and when I put it on my bed it was noticeably shorter, handing inches above the ground! I texted Sam and he asked me to bring it back in and he would be able to fix it for me by stretching it. So, another trip to the city where I also brought back the chenille throw he damaged. I also dug up my receipt for the purchase which showed the price, and the fact that it was a 15in drop and told him it now measured 13 inches! He had the nerve to ask me if any other drycleaners had washed it previously and may have shrunk it. I believe he did the same thing to one of the other reviewers here. It was on a king sized bed for gosh sakes,not exactly easy to whip off and wash/dry, and then was in storage when I moved here. It was wrinkled when it came out which is the main reason I took to it be laundered, not because it was dirty. When I went to pick it up today Sam tells me he didn't measure it! But he tried to stretch it he claims. I got it home and before going through the effort of getting some neighbors to help lift a kind sized mattress, I measured it myself and it is still 13in! I let Sam know I was going to contact the woman who made it and ask if she could make me another one to replace the one he ruined and have him pay for it. He had the nerve to say he didn't do it on purpose (why would anyone think that is a good excuse to get away with damaging your property...it wouldn't work if I slammed into his car for example). He then had the nerve to ask me to bring it in again so he could wash and line dry it in his shop and so we could discuss it further. I told him that there was nothing to discuss, I gave him a chance to fix it so why would I expect this time to result in different results, and I could not just "stop by" to chat at will as I didn't live in the area any longer, and unlike one unlucky reviewer here whom he told he would not replace damaged items without the original receipt, I had my receipt which also contained documentation on what the length was before he shrunk it. PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT TO THIS BUSINESS. They do not take responsibility for the damage they do. Ruined jacket, then put us through hell. My wife brought in her favorite jacket to be cleaned before an interview. It was black before but stained brown everywhere afterward, ruined. Not a cheap jacket, $100, Mango brand. We went back to complain. They claimed not their fault, probably cheap material. No. She's had it dry cleaned before and this didn't happen. After a lot of trouble, the guy said he would do some research and give us a call. Eventually the call came, and he said we could order another jacket similar to the ruined one. Another was currently on sale for $60, and he said he would reimburse us. Great! We go back to the dry cleaner with the $60 receipt. We ask for the $60 that he told us he would pay. Now he says he forgot to tell us that we need to get him a receipt of the original jacket. Simply ridiculous. We've already gone through so much trouble and we cannot get a receipt for the jacket bought years ago. No longer a member of the bank. We tried to explain, but the guy just never wanted to pay. We were angry enough with the jacket ruined, but he made us buy another one promising he will pay. Then he refused. It's just unbelievable. read more

This place has super friendly staff, but like most people here, they've destroyed and cracked every button on all my nice work shirts... so I've been looking for a good dry cleaner even tho I live 3 steps from the place.. Wow, this place doesn't get many good reviews does it? Something about buttons... Fortunately, they've never took out any of my buttons [knock on wood]! So they guy, apparently his name is Sam- super dee duper nice. He's so friendly and he always suggests how he can "wash" them. For instance, I would be like okay I want to dry clean this (because I think it looks/feels like it needs to be) but he goes oh yeah, well this doesn't need to be dry cleaned. So I end up saving up a dollar or two. They also washed my blanket really well with a good, clean smell to it. They also do same day service but I always just pick it up some other time since I'm usually in no rush. The location is right near my apt so it's convenient. read more

Absolutely awful in every way. They ruined a dress of mine worth over $400 by leaving an ink pen in the machine. Refused to pay for it or give the dress back to me. I asked them not to treat with silk with chemicals so I could dye it but they ignored me and ruined the material. The female owner is abusive to customers and to her son who runs the desk.
