Great neighborhood dry cleaner and tailor - Suzy, the owner, is very nice and does excellent work at reasonable prices. A few examples of her amazing work: Dry-Cleaning/Washing I had been storing a small keg of a home-brewed porter - unknown to me, it sprang a leak and over the course of a week it transfered its contents into our formerly sparkling white down comforter. Suzy to the rescue! 3 days and about 35 bucks later we had our comforter back, good as new! I've also had a few shirts dry cleaned here and have no complaints. Alterations Since the comforter incident, we've been back several times and have had equally good experiences with her alterations. We've had a number of items altered here including jeans (pretty basic hemming) and tailoring my fiancee's cocktail dress (little more complicated). She also did an excellent job on very significant tailoring on my fiancee's bridal blouse and lengha (traditional Indian skirt) - given all the heavy embroidery/beads and the unknown tailoring from India, we were especially impressed by the quality of Suzy's work. We've since gone back to get other Indian outfits tailored with equal success. All in all great work - highly recommend checking Suzy's little shop next time you need something cleaned or tailored! read more

Ive been giving them a chance for 15 months and I only go here if I'm desperate! But now I'll remind myself that I'll never be desperate enough again! They are double the price of anyone around and offer doubly LESS customer service. They never even say "thank you". I take full responsibility for recently forgetting to pick up my dry cleaning for a week and a half. However, what's the point of asking for my phone number every time I drop off if they're not going to use it? Customer service is very important to me. I want to spend my money in places that appreciate my business. BTW, they charge $12 for a suit and $5 for sweaters and blouses. If you don't care about how much your dry cleaning costs and customer service is the least of your worries, then they do a quality job; Just not worth it to me. read more

Oh how I want to give Suzy 5 stars, she is the sweetest lady, but she has ruined way too many of my suits! I went to this place because it is right near home, very well priced and of course friendly. About 3 months ago the buttons on my shirts (3 of 10) were burnt off. I took them in and she agreed to fix them, I had already lost the spare buttons for them but they were pretty stock. When I picked them up a day later the buttons were ALL WRONG, they were two sizes too big and a totally different color!!! She said she could not find any that matched. Considering this was the first time and the convenience of the place I gave her another shot, and just last week she stained a BRAND NEW SUIT! There were water marks and starch all over the front and she said that was normal. I am sorry but that is NOT normal. Sorry but I will not be back. read more

I brought in three white dress shirts for dry cleaning. It was a little more expensive than I expected but I wanted to support a business in my neighborhood. When I came to pick the shirts up, I found that the shirts had the exact same stains and wear they had to begin with. I brought this up to the lady that runs the shop, she hesitantly agreed to have the shirts re-cleaned and blamed it on the company she outsources to. When I made yet another trip to the shop to pick up my shirts a 2nd time nothing had changed with them. The lady cited that there are no guarantees on results and refused to offer a refund. I'd think twice before taking anything here for cleaning, especially if it's more complicated or delicate than a white dress shirt. read more

I've been coming to New State Cleaners since 1994. Back then New State Cleaners was under different ownership. The current owner is a wonderful Chinese woman (Sorry, I don't know her name). I stopped in a couple months ago and explained my dissatisfaction with "Rinse" and "Crystal" Cleaners(See my previous reviews about these businesses). I specifically asked if she could do wash and fold with non scented detergent, something the two previous companies said they could do but were unable to do, I was assured she could. I'm happy to report my wash n fold has arrived scent each time I have taken it in, I have also had some alterations done on a several pair of trousers, very good work at a fair price. Just wanted to publish a positive review about a laundry service that understands some of us don't like scented detergents. I only wish this business accepted credit cards, it's a cash only business. read more

Do NOT go to this cleaners with your good quality clothes. Do NOT go to this cleaner with your good quality clothes! I was there only once, and New State Cleaners dry clean ruined my favorite, expensive red sweater coat (it is 80% silk+20% cotton material)! First, they charge higher than other cleaners I know. I don't mind paying higher if the quality is good. However, after a week, I went back there to pick up my coat, she said it was not done well. There were still stains not been taken off, and she had to send back to do it the 2nd time. She told me to come back the week later. I was feeling bad already when heard her say "stains", because, the day I brought in my coat, there were NO visible stains at all. I remember I could not find any stains right in front of her and told her just dry clean the whole thing. "Where these stains come from?" The next Monday, I went back there. My heart was pounding, hoping nothing had happened to my favorite coat. She brought out my coat, and, to my great disappointment, it was not the shinny red color like it used to be. It turned pinkish, AND, there were multiple obvious stains on both sides of the coat, AND, she even had the guts to ask me for $9 dollars! I wonder what kinda chemical they use in dry cleaning. Dry Cleaning usually should be able to take off the stains on your clothes. How did they manage to add more stains on your clothes?! How did they even get the license to run this kinda business?! I was outraged and thinking of suing them. read more

This place is a hidden gem! I've had two bridesmaid dresses tailored here and they do an amazing job. These dresses were silk chiffon & taffeta, etc. I've had the bust taken in and multi layer full dresses hemmed. Each time the dresses fit perfect! I've moved to a different part of the city but I will still make the trek to here for my tailoring needs. read more

New State Cleaners lost my very favorite pants. While this is a big problem and frustration for me I really do understand that sometimes s**t happens. However, the way that this business handled having lost my pants is simply inexcusable. First, I was lied to for two weeks - continually told to come back and that they just weren't ready. Then I was told that they were lost but they were looking for them and I would be called. No one ever called me. When I finally went in to get some resolution on this, the woman in the shop made no offer of any compensation. I asked for the $120 that I had paid for the pants and the alterations to them. That's when the real dramatics began. She couldn't possibly pay that and I needed to make a "reasonable" price. Frankly, I don't know what would be a more reasonable price that what the pants had cost me. Then she said the "manager" had to approve it. After she had a loud dramatic phone conversation in a language I don't understand, I was put on the phone with a very aggressive man who called me unreasonable, yelled at me and threatened me with having to go to small claims court. When I still didn't back down, he then claimed not to be the manager. After a little more arguing he offered me $80.00 and asked to talk to the woman again. Another long, loud, yelling conversation that I didn't understand. She finally hangs up the phone and starts crying. Yes CRYING that he says she has to pay for half of the cost. I'm sorry, you lost my pants, lied to me, yelled at me, refused to pay the cost of the pants and now I'm supposed to feel badly for you? Finally, after more conversation and empty assurances that they continue to look for my pants, I was completely exhausted and agreed to just take the $80 and leave. At that point she tells me that it's too early in the day and that she doesn't have $80. At this point I just left. No pants, no money. Nothing. Basically, my belongings were stolen. I'm still deciding whether I'll go back again to continue the fight, but I would tell everyone I know to NEVER trust any single thing you care about to this business. I don't think they're intentionally losing or stealing clothes but I know for a fact that if something goes wrong they won't make it right. There are a lot of dry cleaners. Pick a different one. read more

The people here are very friendly, and the location is extremely convenient, so it pains me to write this, but my most recent experience has forced me to write this place off as yet another cleaner that it isn't worth going to. I brought them a comforter with a small tear and asked them to fix it and launder it. I made it very clear that I did not require a quality fix - I just needed the seam restitched so the batting wouldn't come out. I just went to pick the comforter up with $20 in hand, only to discover that they were charging me $25! For 2 minutes worth of sewing and some laundering! That is beyond outrageous. Compounding the problem, they don't take credit cards at all. Most cleaners allow you to use plastic if the charge is greater than $15 or so. I ended up leaving without my comforter. While I appreciate how nice the people at New State Cleaners are when I drop stuff off, the prices are completely unjustified. read more

Suzy is the best! Prices are great, and she even alters my waistline (darn, it's not getting smaller). Her turnaround is very quick, and never, ever in my life have I ever seen more neatly folded laundry. My Drill Sgt. would be proud.
