We went at 7:30 on a Wednesday night and we didn't get to leave until after 10. It took at least 15 minutes to get water, and then when the waitress did show up she made a huge deal about how my friends and I apparently don't look old enough to drink (we are in our mid-late twenties so while I understand her questioning it, she didn't have to make us feel like children). She brought us bread and no plates so we got to sit there holding the bread in our hands like idiots. We finally ordered our appetizers about 30 minutes in, and didn't receive our drinks or appetizers for another 45. She then took our orders for our entrees. My husband and I both asked for half orders, and our friends asked for full orders. I ordered the soup of the day. When I finally received my soup 20 minutes later, she brought me a different soup than I ordered, stating that they did not have the first one and she figured I might want this other one instead. I thought it was very weird that she didn't bother to ask me what I wanted first, but at this point I was starving so I accepted it. On the plus side, the soup was delicious (broccoli cheese). Our food finally showed up around 9:30, but she brought my husband a full order even though he ordered a half, and my friend a half even though she ordered a full. She laughed and gave my husband the full order and said "Well here, I guess you get a full." When we finally got the bill around 10:00, surprise, she charged us for a full. When we pulled her aside to tell her about this error, she played dumb and said "oh I didn't hear you say half" even though we brought it up to her upon receiving the food. It took 20 minutes for her to reconcile the bill, during which we discovered that she ran our friends' credit card for someone elses' bill, which then had to be voided out. When we finally all had our bills and were getting ready to add her tip, she came over and stood there awkwardly, telling us that it was only "like my third day" and that they "didn't even really train me at all." The whole situation was awkward and I can't see myself ever coming here again. There was hardly anybody there for the last hour and a half, so I have no idea why everything took so long or why the manager was not helping this employee. The food was fine but overpriced. Great place for Italian food. The moment you step in you notice how nicely done the decor and interior is, the staff is wonderful, very attentive and everyone looked like they enjoyed it there. I really liked the bread they serve you as well as the olive dipping sauce. We tried their calamari which was tender and crispy as well as their egg plant with crab, which was also tasty. Also drinks were always refilled and there was never a time that we had to get a waiters attention to get a drink. Service was phenomenal. I ordered the Gulf red snapper dish, the Sauce was light, creamy and very wonderful tasting. The snapper was pan seared and was moist and crispy. The garlic spinach was soft and cooked really well. We were celebrating a birthday so they brought out a slice of chocolate cake and to be honest it was one of the best chocolate cakes I've ever had, simply because it has that natural chocolate taste and it wasn't too sweet like most other chocolate is. Overall I was thoroughly surprised how everything from the service to the food was exceptionally executed. I would go back again and would recommend it to anyone who hasn't been. read more

I recently visited here with some dear friends for a birthday celebration and was never so disappointed in my life. One of the people in the party didn't receive her food the way she had requested and thus brought it to the attention of the waiter, who by the way was ok, and he proceeded to correct it. Way done was unprofessional but at least he tried. Came back way over cooked after just being dropped on her plate, so she again brought it to his attention and it was taken back again. Everyone was all but done by the time they got it right!! Problem was when the bill came there was no credit given for their error after being told there would be, and to make matters worse the manager in charge came over and actually argued with her in front of everyone. How unprofessional can you be? He finally discounted it $1.00 what an insult. Needless to say I will NEVER go back or recommend it to anyone. Their prices are high for what you get as well. Service: Lousy. Had a party of 11 for my wife's 50th birthday. Stopped by in advance to drop off cake and flowers. Told them how I wanted the table set up in the wine room, "no problem", they said. When we arrived nothing had been changed. Had to move the tables myself. Server was a young man (Garrison?) who was more interested in chatting with the hostess than clearing empty plates, did that myself as well. Had to track down a knife myself to cut the birthday cake. I NEVER leave less than 18%-20% gratuity and dine out several times a week. I left this guy 15% and should've left less. No management ever came by to check on us until we were walking out the door, wow. Very disappointed. Food: Okay. Tomato Soup was really sweet and thick, I think it was tomato sauce, not soup. Vegetables in the Italian Wedding Soup were raw and I mean completely uncooked AND there was a $1 upcharge for that selection which the server did not tell me about. So, paid an extra buck for crunch vegetable soup. Entrees were good, not great. I know Mr. Harrera and have eaten at his other restaurants for years (Alicia's, Dario's) and have almost always enjoyed them. This was our third visit to Marvino's and likely our last. Perhaps the Herreras are getting spread a little thin and top line revenues have become more important than quality and service. read more

Walked in at 6pm and was immediately greeted and seated. Decor is pleasant, but the stone/faux stone is a bit much. Just not my style. Server was very pleasant and attentive. Drinks were brought out quickly along with bread. The bread seemed to be just sliced and definitely not out of the oven. Had a very spongy texture, and wasn't very appetizing. For the meal I ordered the Red Snapper on a bed of spinach while my wife ordered the chicken fettucini Alfredo. I thought the snapper was cooked well and it was tasty. I don't exactly think that it was worth $25, but maybe the one shrimp and few bits of crab bumps the price up. $15 to $20 would have been more appropriate. The entree came with a house salad that was limp and not chilled. The fettucini was above average, but the chicken had a processed feel and taste to it. It was sliced as if it was carved, similar to turkey. The half order was $7, and the portion size was appropriate. I'm giving 3 stars. Food overall was average, bread was below average as was the salad. Fish was good but the chicken was definitely not. The server did a great job and the ambiance and decor is nice. I would put the food a step above Olive Garden but several steps below Carraba's. Would have loved for it to be better since I live in the area and Cypress needs more dining options. My husband and I went on Saturday for lunch and we are so happy to say that finally a good Italian restaurant has arrived to Cypress! We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer - loved the made from scratch marinara sauce! For the entrees we got the chicken piccata - the artichokes and capers made this plate exactly what it should be, amazing lemon flavor! Also got the homemade jalapeño fettuccine with shrimp called Sacampi a la Costiera it was so unique and seasoned to perfection. Everything was absolutely delicious. The service was on point and the server knew exactly how the food was prepared, and she knew the ingredients that were used. We could tell she was very knowledgeable and passionate about what they offered. My husband loves beer on tap and he said that the beer was exactly the temperature it should be, super chilled. This is our new go-to spot just around the corner from our house. In fact, we'll probably have it for dinner tonight! P.S. It took less than 1 hour for lunch. read more

The food here was mediocre at best and not fresh on any level. The prices are high for what I consider a small portion compared to other similarly priced restaurants. We ordered a kids fettuccini Alfredo and it was barely enough to feed my 9 year old. We can usually split a kids meal between our two kids. My daughters both commented that the sauce was very watery both in texture and taste. My husband ordered the linguini with sausage and meatball. Again small portion, one meatball and a small link of sausage. The sauce was bland and there were stem pieces in the sauce. I ordered the mussels Marvino's and it was easily the worst mussels I've ever had. They were very chewy and tasted weird making the broth have an odd flavor as well. The manager came over and I decided to switch to just spaghetti and marinara sauce. Can't go wrong there right? Wrong! It had no flavor, like it was dumped out of a can and sent to our table. The bread they bring at the beginning is very good so maybe a table full of warm bread is the only way to go. That being said the food was extremely quick coming out (hence the lack of freshness). My husband and I have lived here for a couple of years and this was our first time to try Marvino's. Let me start on a positive note, even though we came in late, close to their closing time, we were getting food to go and service was relatively good and prompt, but there were not that many patrons inside at the time so I'd say that this could be the reason for prompt service, if I omit benefit of the doubt. The reason we decided to give it a try is that they're opened late and we were on our way to the airport to pick up a family member visiting from Boston. Choice of food on our side was a bad idea considering that Boston probably has some of the best American-Italian restaurants and food in the U.S, I guess it would have been a better idea to offer and impress our guests with some of the much better Texas culinary staples. Now the negative, let me say that all of us who ate the food had the same opinion. The food was, to say the least mediocre, that any self taught home "chef" can outdo by far. These are the menu items that we have chosen and they're pretty basic meals to create: Fried Calamari, Chicken Parm, Veal Parm and Lasagna, each entree came with a soup and there were three options to choose from. Calamari were to rubbery and with too much breading, Chicken Parm dry and hard with about half an inch of breading on either side, Veal Parm not tenderized and full of gristle and just like the chicken half an inch of breading on each side, Lasagna was under cooked, for the soup I'd say that Campbell's tastes better cold out of the can. It is not my intention to skew the graph of Marvino's business in a negative, but even though we came in late and we are first time customers I think that they should be consistent with their food and if that was what their food tastes like I would not recommend this place to anyone who cares for Italian food. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my dining experience at Marvino's. I've only been there once, which is why I can't give it a higher rating, but I have to say, my first visit was above par. The carnivore in me is rarely impressed by salads but their Cesar salad is like no other I've ever had. The delectable dressing was beautifully balanced with the crisp lettuce...not one overpowered the other. For kicks, I had the eggplant Parmesan because this dish is usually hard to screw up. I was beyond surprised by how they got the texture and flavor right. Not too greasy, not over or undercooked. Pretty solid. Additionally, the service (which is usually a thorn in my ass when it's simply adequate, let alone flat out bad) was above average. My server's small errors weren't her fault as the restaurant is still overcoming opening glitches. The constant smile and willingness to do well made up for all of it. I will return and maybe enjoy a cocktail next time, along with a more complex meal to help me justify a 4 or 5 star review. Congrats to the establishment. Great job. read more

Went for lunch with a party of four on Sunday around 1pm. Business was slow, approximately 5 tables with customers. Our waiter seemed to hate his job. He never smiled, gave eye contact or attempted any casual conversation. We ordered shrimp bisque, chicken parm, lasagna, ravioli, kid pizza and got tiramisu and tuxedo cake for dessert. None of us were impressed with our food. It was bland and room temp. The chicken parm seemed like it had been sitting around under a poorly working heat lamp. The best dish was the kid pepperoni pizza. The desserts were pretty good but not $8 a slice good. One of the people in our party had been before and said her waiter was very rude as well. She thought it was an isolated incident, unfortunately this wasn't the case. This is obviously a management issue. I would suggest a complete overhaul of your management team, new chefs and immediate training for your staff. It was a complete waste of $88. I will never be back. read more

Been wanting to try Marvinos for a while. Finally tried it last night. 25 minute Waite for a table for 3. That's to be expected on a Friday night at 7:30 pm. Was first presented with heavenly oven warmed Italian bread with a wonderful olive oil and herb dipping oil. I'm feeling real good at this point. The calamari appetizer was prepared to perfection. The house salad was acceptable. Your basic oil and vinegar dressing generously mixed with crumbled feta cheese. We had the lasagna, the cioppino and the daily special, osso bucco. The osso bucco was excellent. Ok here comes the bad. The lasagna was a big disappointment. I expected much better in fact, I've had better from the frozen section at the grocery store. I had the cioppino. I'm Italian and I 'very had chopping many times. It's one of my favorites. The cioppino here was TERRIBLE! It was watery and had absolutely no flavor. I'm talking dish water. If you don't know how to prepare cioppino than take it off the menu. That was a $25 bowl of disappointment. read more

First time to try Marvino's and ordered through door dash. Fettuccini Alfredo was ok but bland and the sauce was thick like pancake batter. The lasagna was very meaty but not very cheesy. The main flavor was salt. It didn't taste like any lasagna I've ever had. I also tried the calamari. Unfortunately, it wasn't edible. The flavor was ok but bland, but the calamari itself was chewy like rubber bands. No matter how much I chewed it, I couldn't chew it up enough to swallow it. I should have just thrown a $10 bill away. I ordered the soup of the day with the lasagna. I don't know what the soup was. It tasted like meat ravioli processed in a food processor. The consistency was thick like a pudding and had what I think was pieces of chicken? The flavor was ok, but consistency was pudding, so overall not appetizing. Wasted money. I'm not inclined to give them another try because I've read other negative reviews about food and service. Just thought I'd try at home and skip the service. There are other much better Italian restaurants in the area that charge less!!! read more

I placed an order for Christmas dinner which was supposed to be ready at 6pm. The order was placed over six hours in advance. I arrived around 5:45pm and it wasn't ready over an hour later they begin making the meals... That's ridiculous. The service was terrible and it was a low crowd Sunday evening. We got bread and oil, but no plates and no drinks. FINALLY, the original waitress came when I flagged her down. She said we were now getting a new waitress and she would get us plates. Very nice since she should have done that before she passed us off. Eventually our drinks came with the new waitress. Then the food came and it was very good. Mine was Chicken Marvino. She asked if we wanted dessert. We made the fatal mistake of saying "yes". We waited 10 minutes to SEE the desserts because someone else had the cart. FOR 10 MINUTES? We ordered and waited another 10 minutes for it to come. When I asked her why the delay this time, the waitress said it was waiting for her to come get it. NO KIDDING. We ordered a white cake with strawberries on it that was not fresh and not exciting. Grotto's has nothing to worry about. 20 minutes waiting for a subpar dessert. I felt like we spent most of our time looking at the kitchen wondering where food and plates were. This could be a good restaurant, but who has time to wait for the wait staff to finally get around to serving their customers properly? I noticed what looked like a manager standing talking to someone who apparently was happy and drinking wine. So glad he was concerned about them. read more

Tried the restaurant for the first time with a group of 7 friends. We were seated after a short wait. We were not greeted by a server for an extended amount of time. It took approximately 90 mins from the time we sat down to the time we received our food. I ordered eggplant Parmesan and received chicken Parmesan (after our server verified my order before serving my dish). A couple of entrees were served to the wrong people at the table. We've waited 1 hr. 20 mins., and we're still waiting, after being told that we would be seated in 30 mins. Groups have walked past us, been seated, and finished their meals while we wait. They don't take reservations, so we are simply being bypassed. We have asked multiple times for an update, but we can't get a real answer. They just say they're "sorry". We enjoy the food, but we will not be back. I will also warn others that there is a real 'policy issue' in regard to searing guests. Disappointing, to say the least! read more

This was mine and my friends first time here. I would always drive by it when I am out in this area and today I actually had time to stop and try it out. I live in Bellaire and this has to have been the worst service we have experienced. First of all we were the only 2 African American females in here around 5:30 pm that we saw. Our waitress Martha was so not attentive to us. The tables before us she came by multiple times to ask if they needed anything, gave refills on drinks and even the dessert tray. We had to keep flagging her down each time she came to the other tables to bring them refills and whatever else they needed. They were 2 hispanic ladies at one table and then a white lady and man couple. I told my friend that it must have been a reason why I never had time to stop due to the bad service. If I would have known this we would have waited until we got back to Bellaire and went to one of our many favorite spots to eat. Where we get excellent service!!! I had told many clients about wanting to try this place but after tonight I have told them how the service was and they said maybe if I was with you wonder if we would have gotten better service because we are white.... Not sure but we will not go here again!!! read more

I was a little nervous as I had read some previous reviews about staff not being the greatest and food not tasting the best but let me tell you I am SO GLAD we gave them a try. The waitress we had was super friendly I wish I could remember her name to give her a shoutout! She was very knowledgeable with the Menu and always had a smile on her face. Oh and the food was amazing. We both ordered the chicken parmesan and had their soup of the day and both were incredibly delicious. I encourage everyone to give this place a try. Sometimes a restaurant just has a bad day, and yesterday, July 17, was it at Marvino's for me. I had eaten at Marvino's twice before and it was good, not write home about great, but good, so I took my family for a birthday celebration yesterday. My son-in-law and I had the veal cannelloni which came out slightly warm. Almost sent it back to be heated. I can best describe it as almost tasteless. Glad it was described as "veal" since there was no evidence of any. My daughter had the veal scallopini which she said had more coating than meat. My wife described her eggplant parmesan as disappointing, eggplant under cooked. Only reason for the two stars rather than one, was an absolutely delightful server, Sharon, which made the meal enjoyable even if the food wasn't. Sorry for such a poor review, but four disappointing meals was a complete and unexpected surprise. read more
