I love this place! My husband and I have been here at least 8 times for dinner in the past year and a half. We've come here on dates, dined with coworkers here, and we've brought our families here too. Everyone agreed the food is great. I've enjoyed every dish I've ordered here, but my favorites are the Carne Mas Alla Del Sol and the Chipotle Shrimp. All of the carne dishes are delish - the grilled skirt steak is so tender! The guacamole and the picaditas are great appies. The Pastel de Tequila is an incredibly moist and unique cake (so save room for dessert!) Service is consistently friendly and attentive, the margaritas are fantastic, the restaurant itself is comfortable, and on weekends there are some yummy specials. Yummmm. This just became our new go to Mexican spot in the neighborhood. Service was great! Drinks were strong and flavorful! We both ordered the chicken enchiladas. Hands down the best I've had in years. They were cheesy and gooey and the chicken was cooked to perfection. This place reps Mexican food sooooooo well. Legit, so damn good! I ordered a Mexican Coke to wake me up. Sugar cane and caffeine, always hooks up the necessary jolt. I had the chilaquiles Yucatecos. Yucatan, represent! Habanero and roasted tomato salsa blessed my chilaquiles in the most extraordinary way. I ordered egg whites and black beans to finish off this epic dish. Whew, just the right amount of spice factor, creamy black beans made out with my palate, and avocado loved on my taste buds. I'm a fan. Really good restaurant - the quality and authentic taste of the food, the ambiance, and the customer service were all very good. Prices are reasonable. The biggest problem is finding parking in the area! It took us about 15 minutes to find a space and then we had at least a five minute walk. Definitely worth a visit. read more

There is outdoor seating, but in my opinion it's not ideal since it's right on Broadway without much to block the sun or noise. Nonetheless, I would definitely go back for the food. One of the best Mexican brunch place. I've ordered Enchiladas Verses. It's very good and this made this place one of the best in my opinion. The steak is perfectly cooked. The enchiladas are just about right. The salsa verde is also very good. I also asked them for chips because they don't normally serve chips for brunch. And I found out that their salsa is very different from other salsa I've tried, in a very good way. I asked the waitress and she said it's because they are roasted. I also ordered sopa de tortilla. We came here for Cinco de Mayo with reservations. It was quite busy so we had to wait for while to get seated anyway. We were then seated but away from the lively, colorful atmosphere downstairs to a drab ordinary area upstairs. It felt little like we were the bad children being put away cuz we can hear the lively music and sounds from the main floor but can't be apart of it. The restaurant was nice enough to send up the 9 person mariachi band to entertain the 3 tables upstairs (only 9 customers). This was actually pretty good band...I'm no expert though. I don't remember seeing this at Los Nopales. As we were seated upstairs and it was a busy night, it took a while to get our drinks and to order food. it took some time to get our food too. Service was quite hospitable and apologetic throughout dinner. A lot of us got the mango margarita - quite tasty. The food was pretty darn great (this is coming from someone who doesn't prefer Mexican usually unless it's authentic). I was a little torn about the menu and prices since I rarely want to pay a lot for Mexican food....I am one of those people that like tamales and tortas from the local places in Pilsen. Anyways, i had the camarones chipotle (shrimp with chipotle sauce and rice) and it was soooooo tasty! I got to also try the costillas (baby back ribs smothered in some fusion bbq sauce) which was just fall of the bone tender. We were thinking to order dessert (I remember liking the guava cheesecake as their sister restaurant) but we opted against it as we felt that it may have taken a while to us upstairs :( In the end, the food was good and the service was hospitable. Our party of 6 dined here on a recent Saturday night. Our waitress was delightful and spent lots of time helping us navigate the menu and made some great recommendations. The seasonal guacamole appetizer was especially delicious with a sweetness from the pomegranate seeds and mango topping. I had the pollo en mole which was delicious and my wife enjoyed the pan-seared sea scallops in creamy chipotle tortilla sauce. All of our friends also enjoyed their dishes. Not only does the food arrive hot and delicious--and faster than most other places--but the young women who answer the phones are role models for excellent customer service. I'd been there once before a year or so ago and found myself with my friend and her toddler. Where could we go with a nice ambience, terrific drinks and food to feed a baby who wouldn't be out of place? I recall my other friend and I took her few months old baby there so this place won! I had sopes and a rum horchata which I requested to be watered down but then I realized wtf am I thinking? And I got a second, regular horchata when I was done with that one. My friend had a couple of tequila-seltzers and she loved them. The baby has quesadillas and all the beans and made a controlled mess so everyone was happy. The ceviche lacked flavor and tasted as though they put cooked shrimp in tomato sauce. The beans were almost white and tasted like salt. Rice no flavor at all, mostly fat in the steak. We've eaten at Mas Alla Del Sol a few times and each time the food has been delicious. My husband is from Mexico and we took his mom who is the authority on Mexican cuisine, she loved the food! Slightly pricey but definitely worth it. We've had the same lady serving us each time we've been.. (we must ask her name) each time she is so friendly and accommodating. Even after the brunch menu had finished she asked the chef to whip up some pancakes for my son today! I tried the salmon with a habanero salsa today and it was cooked perfectly, hubby had steak and chile rellenos which were also delish. Enchiladas are fab, also the chilaquiles with salsa verde are super yummy ... we are slowly working our way through the menu!! The head chef came out to greet us today which was lovely! The reviews on this place drew me here but I was not as impressed as id hoped! Igive it 3.5 for the following reasons, the mole was said to be sweet yet spicy but fell from it. The sauce was too thick and smokey that left a weird taste on your mouth. The Costillas were dry and not as juicy and soft as described. The corn mashed potatoes does not accompany well some of the dishes so id reccomend to remove this from a mexican restaurant. Service was good but id suggest fixing a few things. read more

I love Los Nopales so I knew this place had to be good! It was pretty empty on a Tuesday night, so getting a table was easy. I liked the selection of margaritas and cocktails, but I needed a marg! I tried that chile basil mango one which was good, but I thought it would have more of a kick. The size was disappointedly small for the price, too. Mole is my go-to item at Mexican restaurants, but the scallops sounded too good to pass up! There were only four, but with the rice, salad and tortillas, the meal was filling. I loved the chipotle sauce! I was able to try my friend's mole though and it was tasty. There weren't any leftovers, but the portions were just right. And that guava cheese cake! So good. The decor is great and service was good, but there were a few small setbacks: wrong drink order the second time around and the bus boy took the chips and salsa when clearing the dinner plates. I would like to have munched on them some more while having my second drink. Overall I wouldn't mind going back, but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

We had dinner here twice and the menu definitely has some stand out options that you may not find at other restaurants. There were some typical Mexican dishes that they didn't have which I was expecting, though. The service was really prompt and friendly. The whole staff was very accommodating and answered any questions that we had. We really enjoyed the cocktails and loved their margaritas. i would definitely come back for more of those and some appetizers. I had trouble finding something that i wanted to try on the menu and there seemed to be a lot of spicy items. I don't know that I would come back unless my friends really wanted to go. I also found it to be a little expensive for what it was. I'm so so on going back- but not for any strong reason. My partner and I have been here for breakfast and dinner. It's wonderful at both ends! The breakfast and brunch dishes are very authentic and the coffee s for real lovers. I've had a hard time choosing anything else on their menu. The staff is so friendly.
