Fantastic! We have been to many many Mexican restaurants in Chicago and the surrounding area, and this is one of the best. Top marks for both the essentials: 1) the food and 2) the service. Menu goes well beyond the typical Mexican stand-by dishes - we tried queso de panela appetizer and had to order a second one for our table of four. I had verdolagas salad for my main which was outstanding! Never seen either one on a menu before. Others at our table had enchiladas, tortilla soup, guacamole, and one of the beef dishes and everyone was impressed with the quality of food and preparation. Darcy, our server, was prompt, efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Ambience was comfortable and welcoming. The family has another restaurant, Nopales in Lincoln Square, which we will also try. Stopped by for a late lunch last weekend with my fiance. It was a Saturday afternoon, so it wasn't super busy. The dishes are fantastic - the mole is spot-on, and you get good bang for your buck. This is not simply a burrito and taco place - you get actual entrees, and they are delicious. Be prepared for most dishes to be from $10 and up, but it's well worth it. Excellent upscale Mexican dishes. I had a grilled pork and mashed potato dish and my friend had the mole enchiladas. Both were excellent. We ordered the seasonal guacamole this last visit that had mango and pomegranate seeds in it. Everything was excellent. The food came out fast without feeling rushed. My only complaint was that our drinks took forever due to only having one bartender working and they kept delivering food to the wrong tables. Small glitches I hope they work out soon. read more

Went here last minute based on Yelp reviews and proximity to where we were staying while visiting from St. Louis. Service was excellent and very attentive. Had specialty margarita and sangria along with guac, fish tacos and calabacitas. All were fresh and delicious. Would recommend if you are looking for good Mexican in the area. read more

I've only been here a couple of times but I've enjoyed it thoroughly each time. If you love heat you will enjoy the salsa here - habañero salsa. And not mixed with anything sweet. This is probably my favorite restaurant salsa. Their Carne Asada is the best skirt steak I've had - they season and grill it to perfection. The jumbo grilled shrimp in their skirt steak/shrimp combo was totally on point too. I love that both meals came with beans, rice and tortillas. Such a hidden gem in Edgewater!!!! The food was great, rich in traditional Mexican flavor! If you've been to their first sister restaurant Los Nopales you will enjoy this place. The chef was really nice came around the tables to talk to some of the patrons. The only thing I would say is that it's a little "pricier" compared to their sister restaurant Los Nopales; however, I will definitely go there again to try some of their different speciality dishes. read more

Excellent service and the food was terrific. Loved the guacamole; get it fully loaded and you'll have a fiesta in your mouth with every bite. I ordered the Camarones al Chipotle which had very good depth of flavor. Margaritas were very good as well - get the blood orange margarita when they're in season. The chef came out to greet us after our meal which is always a nice touch. He was very friendly and appreciative of our business. I've seen some reviews here about slow/bad service, but that was not my experience at all. I guess some nights are just not as good as others. Mas Alla Del Sol is the best around. More high-end and very authentic. I wish blood oranges were in season year round because when they are, you will find them here in the best "special" margarita you've ever had. And the "loaded" Guacamole (forget what they call it) is topped with jicama and pomegranate seeds and, has, I think, habanera peppers instead of jalapenos (as does their house salsa) and it is so good. I've had the skirt steak: excellent. the red snapper: divine. Baby back ribs with ancho chili sauce: delicious (the corn mashed potatoes were a nice side and so yummy). Enchiladas, Chiptole Shrimp: equally excellent. Daily specials and everything else: excellent! I lived around the corner from this place for three years before I discovered them and am still kicking myself for not trying them sooner. Family owned and operated, and all wonderful people.
