Awful place. We arrived (after calling first) with a group of 11 after a day of travel. We were told to come and "if you arrive in 20 minutes, you won't worry about a wait." We arrived in exactly 24 minutes (we checked). The hostess seemed absolutely livid and said it's been more than 20 minutes. We were confused and said we think there has been a misunderstanding, she said "let's talk outside" and then ... slammed the door in our face. Just utterly bizarre. Not sure if the Jewish star necklace is what made her act like this. We will never return. read more

Just left this restaurant. We liked our food, but the dining experience was super uncomfortable! The older waitress felt the need to scream loudly at some of the customers for apparently no reason at all and then felt the need to snarkily address the entire restaurant asking if everyone was happy now. I have never witnessed such a blatant display of disrespect toward customers in my life. We love Indian food but would never recommend this place nor will we ever dine there again if that same waitress is still there. Many of the reviews we have read online have made the same complaint. Terrible and unfriendly customer service. Did not provide menus but expected us to know what we wanted. So we asked how the beers tasted and were told they taste the same. Slow to bring out drinks. Update: So basically this place hasn't really gotten worse or better. It's about the same and we eat it because sometimes it's not worth the drive up to Chesapeake for better Indian. My gripe is that I called to get take out and was told no because their chefs are too taxed cooking for the buffet service. Sorry but that's a lame excuse, maybe up your staffing on those nights to accommodate for the buffet and regular service. The prices they are charging they should be able to handle this. We stopped at Masala Bay Grill as we returned home to DC from an OBX trip. We wanted our desi fix :). We ordered chilli fries, chicken tikka masala, and chicken korma. Chilli fries were good, but salty. But the curries were just not good. They were poor quality, really small servings, but high prices that we usually see at higher end Indian restaurants. We've been going to this great place for 2 years. The Tomato Soup is possibly the best soup I've ever had. We love the Garlic Shrimp appetizer, the Chicken Saag, and the Naan are delicious. I try something different almost every time, so I can't mention them all. I would strongly recommend stopping on your way to or from the OBX. Stop and grab a bite on your way to pick the kids up at the Waterpark. Have a great dinner on the water while having a nice cold Taj Mahal beer. Enjoy!!!!! read more

Very bad customer service! They did not pick our call when we were calling to reserve a spot, and when ended up droving for more than 45 mins to reach the place, they were extremely rude and shooed is away! This is not a good way of dealing with customers, they could have given the same information by picking the call in the first place or by at least telling it to us in a polite manner We were left with hungry elders and toddlers. Maybe the food and other reviews are good but I would rather go to places where they respect and are happy to have us We ended up going to THAI ROOM, they were very sweet and extended their working hours for us and the food in Thai room was so delicious as well. read more

The only good meal my husband and I have had in the OBX. Unfortunately, we were disappointed each and every day of our week long trip with the food in the Outer Banks. We've been to every well reviewed, five star restaurant found on yelp in this area and Masala Bay Grill was the only restaurant worth five stars. Sweet waitress, AMAZING food and great views. My family and I frequent this place alot as the OBX is our summer family vacation spot. We arrived to the location with a server who was nothing but rude. As a restaurant manager myself, I was thoroughly unpleased with their "service." The staff and "manager" was rude and disrespectful to my father, uncles, and grandmother. The only explanation I can possibly give is that we are of middle eastern descent and none of the wait-staff wanted to serve us at 8:15pm (when it clearly says their kitchen is open until 9pm) This was supposed to be a nice family dinner with members who have finally gotten together after several deaths in the family whilst also traveling from different states and this "customer service" left us completely distraught. We do not plan on returning and if you are of "foreign" descent, I recommend you do not visit as well. Hopefully the restaurant staff, owner, and managers are able to re-train and learn what customer service really is because unfortunately they seem to have missed the memo. read more

Great place for Indian food! Great location beautiful views of the water. Food to match the place. We were a party of 6 with kids toddlers! My benchmark is if the kids love the flavours chances are it will have good food! I ordered the garlic shrimp which were spectacular! We also ordered the mutton roganjosh which was amazing! The palak paneer and the Chicken biryani was good. The butter chicken though was not on par with the rest of the offerings. It was a solid 4 in my book compared to a solid 7-8 with respect to the other dishes. To sum it up come here early watch the sun go down, drink beers have good Indian food. Good flavors, family sized portions. We started off with the hot chai tea and samosas. Then we shared the saag with paneer, butter chicken and naan. We had a party of 10 people ranging from age 7 to 96, and with two adults that had never had Indian food before. The inside is casual but nice, with a great view. They can easily accommodate large groups. We ordered the garlic shrimp and samosa appetizers, along with the assorted breads. Everyone loved them, the 7 year old especially loved the garlic shrimp and used the garlic naan to soak up the sauces left on the plate. For the main course, we ordered quite a few dishes and ate them family style - butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh, salmon tandoori, malai chicken tikka, seafood combo curry, chicken korma, vegetable biryani, and the aloo gobi masala. The table favorites ended up being the chicken korma, malai chicken tikka, the biryanis, and lamb rogan josh - but everything was excellent! They have some simple kids options (chicken tenders, etc.) and we ordered that because we weren't sure if our child would like all the food, but he ended up eating with the adults so we snacked on his fries a bit (very good) and took the chicken to go. Great spot off the beaten path in popular Kill Devil Hills. The outdoor seating offers beautiful views of the sound and Wright Memorial Bridge. There is a large kitchen garden on the side of the restaurant. It appears this is an all-hands-on-deck family operation and it's evident by the cleanliness and presentation of the food that they take enormous pride in the business. My 13rd old who it typically hesitant to try new plates had the lettuce wraps with a minced chicken spice medley and loved it. I had Samosas as an appetizer and they were fried to perfection. Perfect portion sizes for the entrees. Server was great; a young Ukrainian women who offered some friendly sightseeing advice. Enjoy! read more

First off: Yelp, you suck. Your new format sucks. Stop trying to make this a "community." I just want to review food I stuff in my food hole. Always a bit precarious when we're the most Indian thing in an Indian restaurant. As a few others have mentioned, the (non-Indian) wait staff wasn't prepared to answer Indian questions. (and definitely not in Hindi!) The food was good, better then expected based on 1st impressions. And the place smells like an Indian restaurant. Where'd you really win? The chai. Yup the cooks are Nepalese, and the recipe is simple and clearly Nepali. I'm not sure if the owners are from Rajasthan or Gujarat (the food recipes are), but the chai isn't from either state... and as maker of the worlds greatest chai: this chai did not disappoint. Growing up on this island I remember the cultural apprehension about the Thai Room. And then almost 20 years later when sushi first arrived at Taiko. Finally made it to Masala Bay and we were so happy we made the trip across the bridge. The restaurant was squeaky clean, the view is amazing, service excellent and food was delish. We don't have much experience with Indian food so we needed some help. The waitress helped guide our selections and we loved them all. I think anything you order here world be fantastic. March 2021. Pleasant deck view, tasty food, generous portions, and a very personable waitress - great way to soften the ending of our Nags Head mini getaway. Tables inside and out are spaced safely apart, w/window screens allowing fresh air if you sit inside. Heads up though --esp. in heavy fast traffic, it's easy to miss the small road leading to the restaurant. Dep. if you're driving towards or away from the outer banks via the Wright Memorial Bridge, the turn off road will either be IMMED on your left before the Wright Memorial bridge or IMMED on the right, after exiting the bridge. Such a surprise to find excellent Indian food in OBX. The staff was friendly and attentive. They don't have a cocktail list but we're able to craft an excellent negroni from their well stocked bar. We had the chat which was crunchy and flavorful. The lamb josh was really rich and had tender chunks of meat that. My only criticism would be to add more colorful decor but do check this place out. read more

We had a delightful dinner there last night. We started off with samosas and pakora which were both delicious. For dinner we had the chicken vindaloo, lamb rogan josh and tandoori chicken. The vindaloo was ordered medium-hot spicy and was perfect, just enough heat to make it interesting but not so much it was a problem. The rogan josh was ordered mild and was also very good with lots of flavor and tender lamb in the wonderful sauce. The chicken was ordered for the least Indian food friendly member of our party and it was good but needed a little yogurt sauce added to complete the meal. We also ordered some garlic naan and it is not too be missed, but be aware, there is a good amount of garlic on it, but it was quite delicious. Rice was also served with the entrees and it was perfectly prepared basmati. All in all, a wonderful evening at a beautiful little spot. When I walked on the outside deck, I noticed that they had a fine spice garden behind the building. The freshness showed in the food flavor. The location is the best in the area... stunning! Our large group last night, about which we had informed the restaurant in advance, was treated with unparalleled hostility by the hostess. I can understand a restaurant being understaffed, but this is hardly an excuse for rudeness and incivility. Looking at the reviews, our experience appears not to have been uncommon at this place, and perhaps not the result of the Jewish symboled necklace I was wearing. We travelled 16 miles to get Indian food . They served buffet only in afternoon . We wanted to pick some extra food for my 3 yr old son . So we asked the waitress whether we can buy some Togo ... she said that she needs to check with her boss and they usually don't let to-go... she came after a while saying that a box would cost us 14.99 and we were ok about it . But later the waiters and owners started having conversations that she should have told us 19.99 so that we wouldn't have order it at all and they started reacting in front us and they behaved as if we took free food .. they were very rude and had a very bad attitude . On our way to Duck, we stopped by at this charming little restaurant just next to the bridge over Currituck Sound. We were able to get outside seating and , much to our surprise, our dogs were welcomed and given a bowl of water. The mango lassi was both large and truly tasty. All our entrees were generously portioned. I perfected alu gobhi which had a unusually large tomato component and was consequently much moister than I expected. My wife ordered a tomato cheeses dish and my sister had a chicken curry wrap. Our waiter, a young Ukrainian, was very attentive and knowledgeable. Lovely, lovely location...the food and service are no slouches either!...We wanted to sit by the sea and have our dinner. This restaurant has four types of seating - by the bar, inside, patio and a picnic area with picnic tables. Car and Boat Parking and lovely views of Currituck Sound - not exactly the ocean but quite close - huge body of water anyway. We were there on a Friday evening around 7.30 pm. Sunset was not for another couple of hours and it was still hot and humid outside. So we sat inside after trying out the Patio. We ordered some Indian beer and vegetarian dishes. The Basmati rice and garlic naans that accompanied the dishes were very good and the dishes were quite mild (we asked for Medium - next time it would be hot!). There were some minor hiccups with the service but the host lady was apologetic and the Indian gentleman (may be the owner) made his way over to us to make sure everything was good! Loved the whole experience. We finished dinner and went down to their docks and spent some time there taking in the ambience! Would definitely be back and what a great evening! The location on the water front is fantastic! There's both indoor and outdoor seating. Definitely try to sit out side and btw the food is decent too. On the downside our naans were half cooked.
