Four of us went here for dinner. Overall, pretty amazing. A couple of us had the citrusy mocktail which probably the best mocktail I've ever tasted. Two others had a couple of the special cocktails on the menu and loved them. We decided to order six appetizers, two main courses, and two desserts. We split everything four ways so it ended up like a nine course tasting menu experience. Who knew cabbage could be so good? Haha!!! Standout dishes were the qual, clams, borscht, warm salad and the desserts. The place is small so reservations advised. Wait staff and cooks are friendly. Aside - one person in our party wasn't enthused about Eastern European cuisine and was a convert by the end. If you enjoy well-prepared, delicious food full of taste, check out Molotov. Number ONE is Sean; our waiter. He was so excited that we were excited about our first time at the restaurant. He gave us recommendations and was proud of how much food we ordered between two asian women. The affirmation paired well with the food. Our favorite was the Clambasa. I was worried the kielbasa would overpower the littleneck clams but it was perfect together. You can taste all the ingredients in the dish well. The bone marrow was gone before I could take a picture---rightfully so. But the horseradish mustard blew my mind. The ONLY reason I'm not raving anout the Shuba salad is because a good friend of mine makes it so much better. No skin off of Molotov's back at all, homemade at custom to me will always win. The quail was a disappointing. I didn't notice that the sauce was listed as BBQ. I could not taste the quail. By the time the Porchetta came, we were readilly full...but that didn't matter. Crisp, fatty and flavorful. I recommend the horseradish horilka for all the dishes. Lastly, the pistachio blintz. "Not too sweet," is the Asian's highest praise to any dessert and this deserves it. LOVELY and light. A perfect end to a rich and savory dinner. And no, do not pair this with the horseradish horlike (just in case you were wondering). For this visit, my sister and I decided to sit in the patio area and sit under their local resident regular, the squirell in the tree (his name is Vlad, but his street name is Chad). But next time, I would op to sit inside. It is very cozy with PLENTY of things for your eyes to scrutinize. The first visit was not enough to take everything in, both visually and gastricly (no more room left). A repeat visit is warranted and highly recommended. read more

OMG. First, I have to apologize for not writing this sooner, as the menu is seasonal and has already changed. This place is TINY, like $5million-"apt"-in-Manhattan tiny. We were very wedged in a corner, which, thankfully, we're all small. Just an FYI. Having said that, the space is cute, kind of has to be haha. The staff was very friendly. Everything we had was next-level delicious. We had the borscht, which, when I return, I'm getting my own because sharing is a waste! I would have licked that bowl! We shared 3 or so small plates and were all going to get mains until we discussed with our server, and paired down to 2 mains as they are large. Not a crumb went back to that kitchen on any of those plates. They also have a small, well-curated wine list. We got a couple bottles. I'm pretty sure we also got dessert, as I'm a 3-course girl. We returned to Molotov Kitschen because we saw they were a participating restaurant for Dine Out for Ukraine. We already knew the food was good but didn't realize their menu rotates quarterly which keeps things fresh, creative and interesting. The pelmeni was a special standout but everything was a palate explosion of flavor! This intimate space was nominated for a James Beard award, but we think they deserve a Michelin star!! This may be one of my new favorite restaurants in Denver! Everything from the service, food and ambiance was a 10/10. It's a very small space so reservations are needed (and require a deposit which gets refunded once you visit). The dishes are elevated takes on Eastern European dishes, some with a spin. We tried their braised lamb dushenina which was melt in your mouth good. their French onion borscht was the best take on a French onion soup I've tried with beets and the best croutons. Their duck holubutsi (essentially cabbage rolls) were also the best I've had. I can't recommend this spot enough for a date night or slightly elevated occasion. No parking lot but free street parking (note some of the streets only allow for residential parking during most times so read the signs carefully) read more

I took the opportunity to experience a Chef's 5 course tasting menu from Molotov. It was interesting. Everything is well prepared and follows the Chef's memory of his grandmother's recipes. Nothing stood out as exceptional - everything was pretty darn good though. The pierogi was a nice start, comforting and tasty. Borscht was an interesting twist with cherries. The stuffed cabbage with fish was very bland. The rabbit was bland as well. Blintz was sweet, but nothing special. The Chef is passionate about his Ukrainian heritage and culture and the ambiance inside exemplifies it. The place is small, so a reservation is probably a good idea. Tough to park anywhere nearby, especially with the construction on E. Colfax. So if you want to experience really good Eastern European food, please give Molotov a try. read more

Came here for date night - small intimate space. Staff was welcoming. Started off with some cocktails that honestly I can't remember the names of but you can tell were each crafted with care, and I always love one with theatrics (lit on fire- see pic). Food wise our appetizer was the Venison tartare- SO WORTH IT. If you like tartare in general, this was done to perfection. For mains my wife had the roast pork shank which was MASSIVE- we had to take a box home; I'm pretty sure she got 3 meals out of it. I chose the Ukha and I am always thrilled to find a place so inland that can do fish right; the broth was everything. Chose the Dark Forest Torte for dessert which was as decadent as you can imagine; for me this was excellent as I don't feel like you can ever have too much rich chocolate but if that's not your jam there isn't really anything to cut it with. Tried to go for dinner with our Ukrainian family. could not make reservation online ( 10 adults and two young kids). Did not work, so I called directly. Was footballed to a couple different people, and then was told we had to prepay $40 a person and agree to $85 minimum again per person. Molotov recently popped up in my lists for places to try as Ukrainian food isn't all that common to find! My partner is Czech and has been looking for similar cuisines here in Denver so we needed to give this place a try. The parking was a bit tricky with the construction on Colfax and since we came in the evening and the closest street parking is permit only. We found parking not too far though. There's also a lot across the street. The interior is small but very cute in the inside! It was floral heavy with touches of modern art. We came on a Tuesday and got a table for two without a reservation! Okay, let me start off with that, Molotov has good food and the drinks are even better. However when you are at a higher price point, the grading scale is going to shift a little bit. I will say I love when a place does a seasonal menu! For drinks, we got Molotov (chai edition), Peasant Uprising, a bourbon cocktail, and a gin cocktail. The Molotov came with a flaming sugar cube. It was divine. I love chai. The Peasant Uprising was like a dirty martini. It was fabulous. I can't recall the other two drinks but they were fine. For food, We ordered the Rabbit Kielbasa, the Lamb Shashlik, and the Quail Satsivi. The kielbasa was savory and came with a pool of beans. The Quail was delicious and seasoned well. All the food was good, but I had expectations coming into this because of the price point that it fell flat. The seasoning on the quail and all the other meats was good, but it felt like it could be on any type of meat. It didn't feel as complimentary to what each meat was. Great place! It was our first time trying Molotov , and we got a chance to experience their menu through Denver Restaurant Week. First the ambiance of this restaurant is amazing. Molotov is quite a unique find on Colfax. It's a vibey restaurant with a very eclectic menu that seems to take a creative spin on Ukrainian food. My friend and I enjoyed everything we had, which included the smoked trout dip, rabbit in a clay pot, the arctic char, and chocolate torte. The rabbit was definitely enough for sharing, while the fish seemed to be a normal sized portion. The dip was way too expensive for what you got. Same for the dessert. I think that's my one complaint - that the restaurant is pretty pricey for some of the things that you get. I know things are expensive these days, but the restaurant in a way feels it's pricey for being pricey's sake, versus actual value. We also had a couple of cocktails, which were also very creative but also on the pricier side. It's hard getting used to the fact that $17+ cocktails are the norm these days. I think they change their menu based on season and ingredients, so it's quite possible we'll be back because it was an enjoyable meal. Service wise exceptional. Finally, a Ukrainian restaurant in Denver. Now, this isn't your mother's Ukrainian food. Chef Bo takes Ukrainian classics and puts a twist to them to elevate them and truthfully, make them more palatable to non-Ukrainians. Many have noted the small space. Im sorry but if you're looking for a massive table and a huge restaurant, go to a chain restaurant. If you're looking for a thoughtfully cozy home feeling then that is personally what I look for. Now, the menu changes seasonally plus Halloween. We've been multiple times and RAVED about the menu and we've also been and felt okay about the menu. But what we can say is that each time it's thoughtful. They don't just toss a meat and mashed potato's and call it a day. If you didn't like a certain season, try again. Chef Bo is also a treat to watch and dine with in the kitchen / bar area. Worth getting a chance to chat with him. Lastly, try the horseradish Horilka. You know when you have the kind of meal that just makes you happy? That was this meal. My husband and I do a date night once a month that he plans and he chose Molotov this month. The space is warm and inviting and service was immediately friendly. We started with purple potato bread with sunflower seed butter - hot, tender, delish. Then we moved on to beef tongue salad. Perfect blend of salty, sweet, savory, crunchy. My husband went for the rabbit and pork meatloaf with parsnip mash but the mash was silky smooth and did an amazing service to parsnips which can have a woody and sometimes bitter flavor. That was not the case here and I snuck a couple bites. I did the schnitzel with celeriac and fennel with pickled cabbage. Seriously good vegetarian dish that I'd get again. For drinks we both opted for the pear spiced old fashioned riff and split a Madeira for dessert. 10/10 - would recommend! read more

We ate here while in Denver last week. It was a small restaurant, decorated with nesting dolls and a flower border across two walls. We ordered several things to share. Our absolute favorite was the beet croquettes. The charred cabbage was way too spicy for me, after I mistakenly assumed that green chili in Colorado was the same as green chile in New Mexico. The manager offered to have another order made with less spice but I declined as I'd had enough to eat and it was my fault for not asking, but she ended up comping us the pistachio blitz which we had ordered to go as we were full. Ok heres the thing, we had an absolutely amazing meal until..... the main dish we ordered was served raw. The Beginning was good, we had some great cocktails that were really interesting, I ordered the st. Olaf's fireball twice - great watermelon drink that wasn't overly sweet. I'm celiac so they gave me a menu with the gluten free dishes highlighted. The golden borscht, the radish salad and the smoked route and cabbage were so tasty. My friends really liked the progenies too. But I will say for a place that pushes you to share, the bites are really hard to share. The croquet was just one piece that was hard to split. The main dishes we ordered were the lamb ribs and the pheasant. The lamb was delicious and savory. They subbed the pasta for rice for me, and the rice didn't seem out of place, just really solid dish. But they made it hard to share again there were six ribs and we had to cut them ourselves and they didn't give us a good knife, just the butter knife's. The pheasant was in this nice spicy sauce, but it was so thick and the room was fairly dark that we couldn't tell that the meat was basically completely raw. I'm taking not a little under, but the outside was still pink when we shone our flashlight on it. A few of us had eaten quite a few bites before this was discovered. The waiter was apologetic and comped that dish and what ever we wanted to replace it with. Which was ok I guess. To be honest we thought the chef should have come out and we should have gotten a better apology and a better offer to fix it. But we didn't give them a hard time and we probably should have. The meal ended up being $400 even with the comped food. For the money we weren't sure it was all worth it but it's hard to say because we're now worried about getting sick and raw food just brought down the night. Unsure if we'll give this another go unfortunately. read more

Does 6 stars exist on Yelp? We walked in on a Saturday night around 8 and didn't have to wait to be seated at the bar. The place itself is very small and cozy. The chef himself was working the kitchen and helping to plate the food. We got the babka, varenyky, summer radish salad, stuffed cabbage, borscht, lamb porchetta, and carrot cake. And man, let me tell you...we were STUFFED as a party of 2. The highlights were the babka, stuffed cabbage, and lamb. I considered getting a few babka to-go to enjoy later! Definitely get the horseradish shot or peppercorn or any for that matter. They were perfectly executed and so delicious. Also, they change their menu seasonally, so every 3 months so be sure to check their website for the most recent. If their menu changes that often we will certainly be back every 3 months. read more

Perfect Trifecta: Food, Drink, and Service! The unique elevation of Ukrainian dishes is one not to pass up. My first visit to a Ukrainian restaurant & it was a success! We made reservations & showed up a little early with no problem. We did move from the table that was immediately against the window - it looked super cramped for a party of four. We tried all the small plates and my favorite was the Red Cabbage Holubtsi (fire roasted eggplant ikra, buckwheat stuffing w/ smoked pepper ajvar, rye bread crumble). For the main, we tried the NY Strip & it was so tender! For dessert, we tried the honey cake & the cheesecake. The honey cake seemed a bit dry & the cheesecake was a huge favorite. I've had my eye on Chef Bo Porytko since we moved to the neighborhood and checked out the inventive and delicious food at Misfit inside Middleman Bar down the street. Truly believe his restaurants are breaking ground in the reinvigoration of the food scene in Denver that I've been watching the last few years ( and why I happily moved from Chicago knowing I'd be a fulfilled foodie after leaving my beloved Tryzub Ukrainian Cuisine on the west side behind) The atmosphere is pretty posh yet cozy, and our server was very attentive and laid back. I'm sober and was happy they offer a lavender lemonade or can whip up a mocktail of your choosing. I think it'd be neat if down the line they offered a cbd mocktail or NA wine. For zarkusky or apps we ordered the herring in a fur coat and Lima bean varenyky. The former was my favorite dish, with herbaceous beet and carrot blanketing creamy, possibly smoked herring? So good! And beautiful too. The varenyky were also luscious-the pickled rhubarb was a bit too vinegary but it didn't affect the pillowy perogies. The slow roasted poussin was so juicy with crispy skin! I loved the squash and accompanying sauce. My boyfriend ordered the lamb porchetta which was cooked perfectly and the pickled watermelon rind complimented the dish well. Great portions and presentation too. For dessert we split the burnt honey carrot cake, which was wonderfully rich and spongy. I must confess I am not a huge Eastern European Foodie ( is there such a thing?) That being said we all had a wonderful time at Molotov: The ambiance and service are divine. Nice food and wine albeit limited. Great overall time! The space is very cozy and encompasses two store fronts. As you walk in you are hit with the Kitchen and coocoo clocks. You can actually dine watching the chefs do their thang or dine in the adjacent dining room. The ambiance is warm, funky eclectic and not boring. I liked the food and thought there were some good dishes. If you are a picky eater this aint your place. Loved the Gravlax, Pork dumplings, Herring. The Elk was a bit funky but good. The Salmon served with a puff pastry on top was quite good (delicate flaky moist fish). Desserts were spot on and delicious. Place was busy for a Sunday night ( gee I guess getting featured in the Post helps!!!) Fun experience with very unique dishes that you will not find easily elsewhere. I was pretty excited to try Molotov when I heard it was taking over the old To the Wind Bistro space, and the positive reviews it's garnered since certainly didn't hurt either. For those of you who were familiar with the prior setup, Molotov has taken the still small and cozy space and added a sexy dark color palette with some Eastern European flair thrown in. The cocktail menu was thoughtful and included some infused "horilka" options as well. I had the Generous Aristocrat which I really liked and a friend of mine had the beet cocktail, which was excellent too. (Despite asking to hang on to our drink menus, they were shuttled away at some point, and we were never asked if we wanted another round...the service was not super attentive throughout the night despite the small size of the restaurant.) We made a point of trying and sharing a number of dishes in our group of four, including the Rye with Corned Beef Butter, the Sausage of the Day, the Veal Piroshki, the Parsnip Varenyky, the Rabbit in Claypot and the Lamb Shank. Of the smaller plates, the piroshki was the clear winner amongst our group. The corned beef butter was an interesting feature (but the rye loaf a bit small). The sausage was sausage (nice but nothing earth shattering), however, I really enjoyed the accompanying beet horseradish. The varenyky were artful but divisive. The pickled flavor of apple overtook the whole dish, which was disappointing since we ordered two orders to better split amongst our group (only 3 per order). As for the mains, we definitely liked both the shank and the rabbit, but I personally found them a bit oversalted, and it was tough to get much flavor contrast from the other components. (I'm not sure if that's just because we were sharing...maybe the other ingredients were more of an accent--but admittedly, the dark vibe made it sort of hard to see the food, so I'm uncertain.) All of that said, I would dine here again. I appreciate that they're bringing something different to the food scene in Denver (even if a modern, less authentic take). That said, these were also fairly pricey bites given portion size, and not all of them were hits. So it's probably a 3.5 star place in my book for now. Pro tip: there is apparently "Blue Bird District" parking in a lot just across the street. (I realized this as I was walking the several blocks over from where I eventually parked my car. Ha.) As this area of Colfax gets more and more popular, this is something that will certainly make a dinner out here easier. read more

Love this place! Warm, quirky, creative, and cool. It's a blast every time! If you go, be sure to lean into the vegetable dishes. They are among the most creative I've had in Denver! Also, the staff is absolutely lovely. We were devoted to the restaurant that used to be in this location (RIP, To the Wind), and were so sad to see it close, but Molotov has salved the wound. Food was meh! Way over priced for food that wasn't cooked very well. Fish was dry with a dusty, flour like consistency on the outside. If you are just a little adventurous about your food, you MUST add this to your list. I have been to Ukraine once but the food was not memorable (unless you love borscht). This was featured in the post but the article didn't do it justice. Go early and sit at the counter before it gets too crowded. Interacting with Chef Bo and seeing the joy he puts into each dish was a treat. We tried their specialty cocktails and both were very good. They infuse their own vodkas which you can order by the small glass (picture a stemmed shot glass) or mixed in the their drinks. At their recommendation, they mixed strawberry and honey vodkas between the appetizers (bites) and main course..told it was the Ukrainian way to cleanse the palate (when in Rome). We ordered 2 Zakusky (Bites) for the 2 of us. The Spelt Pelmeni was a WINNER. Was told its the Ukrainian version of a pierogi. The Rutebaga Latke is like a cured salmon plate...tons of flavors from the fish to the capers and cream sauce. I want to try their caviar service and of course borscht. The name "Rabbit in a clay pot" doesn't give the meal justice. Amazing! The chef told us that they get the rabbits from a local farmer. Very meaty and cooked to the point that it falls off the bone. We also ordered the Coulibiac which is cooked in a small pot and the pastry is added to the top. I hate soggy pastries so I like how the pasty is added to the top of the dish to keep it fresh. I saw a rave about this restaurant in a roundup of new Denver restaurants, so we gave it a try. First, be aware that you have to make a deposit for your reservation ($15 per person) and you forfeit it if you cancel within 24 hours. It's a small space but we knew that from the previous tenant. We ordered mocktails (blood orange spritz) which weren't on the menu but available when we asked. They were tasty but shrub or drinking vinegar based ... and I can't stand vinegar. Then we started with the parsnip varenyky, which say they come with "parsnip chips" (chunks of parsnip) and in a savory apple broth with pickled apples. The small dish had 3 sad dumplings with a dough that didn't feel cooked enough, basically floating in a pool of apple cider vinegar. After I finished dying, we asked the host (our server had vanished) to be sure my main wasn't vinegary and then asked the server who said it wasn't. They nicely swapped out my drink at no additional cost. For mains, I got the stuffed delicata squash and my husband got the rabbit in a clay pot, which just came in a bowl. The rabbit was super bony -- he was picking bones out of his mouth the whole time. It tasted OK but he said they could have subbed overcooked chicken without it making a difference. My squash was adequate. It was atop a pool of gravy with what we thought were some kind of cracker (?) but maybe were the fasoli in the menu? It was extremely dark so we couldn't really see anything; it just looked gray. There were pomegranate seeds. Everything was extremely salty. I felt like I was eating at someone's grandma's house where I just wanted to be done please. I had been interested in dessert but we opted out since everything else was not good. Everything is plated beautifully. The house infused vodka flavors are interesting and one is used in a delicious flaming cocktail. The staff encourages you to share several small plates and larger plates. We enjoyed the Celery Root Schnitzel very much! Some of the other plates were less interesting. read more

We've been watching the menu for a while waiting to give it a try! We made reservations for a Thursday evening and when we got there, there were only two other groups eating. We ordered drinks, the Molotov and the Island Bo. They were fire! (Literally for the Molotov) 7/5. The first dish up was the gazpacho, it was alright, seemed to be missing something that left me longing 3/5. Next up were the stuffed squash. It was a beautiful plate and tasted good 4/5. The lamb was up next, it was flavored well and presented well but maybe a smidge overcooked 4/5. The baby poussin was an utter catastrophe, over cooked and so dry that it made me devastated thinking that I could have gotten 6 rotisserie chickens from Costco instead -100/5. We got some other things... but then I got the burnt honey carrot to wallow in my sadness and let down but it was amazing, the true star of the meal! 20/5. What a rollercoaster of a ride. It's a cute place with beautifully plated dishes but sadly it is middling at best. read more

For the entire time I've lived in Cap Hill, I've driven past Molotov and never made it. It was only when I moved outside the neighborhood did I come try this place with a friend and I wished I had come sooner! When you walk in, you immediately feel the cozy dining environment. It was raining when my friend and I went which made it extra cozy. Their menu ranges from appetizers to huge entrees. If you are coming here with a small party, I would recommend a variety of their apps, which they call zakusky. We ordered the rye flatbread, corn + crab varenyky (pierogies), sauerkraut stuffed squash, and elk tartare. All were delicious and I would recommend all of these dishes. The standouts for us were the rye flatbread with pork liver terrine and the sauerkraut stuffed squash. The varenyky would have been a standout, but it was too salty for us. If you're ever in the neighborhood, definitely check this place out! read more
