Best burger made to specifications and a brioche bun! Perfection in a burger. I haven't had one but I hear the Bloody Mary is the bomb.

5:30p Tuesday. Quickly seated. Great service. Bread bowl was tasty. There were many large chunks of artichoke in the dip. The chips favored popcorn to me. I wanted a cup of the jalapeño wing sauce on the side. It was thinner than anticipated. Chicken and waffles with the caramel sauce was good. I had a Cesar salad also and I saw too many brown spots in my greens soI didn't eat it. I was told the burger with Shrimp wasn't a winning combination. They said it was a bit odd, but this person doesn't like Mayo or ketchup. I ate a shrimp and I thought the sauce was a bit tangy and over powering. The bun was good though. read more

First off, my family and I have patronized this restaurant for over 14 years. It's always been a neighborhood treasure, until they switched ownership. Some things have changed, like the quality of their fries, but overall it was still a nice place to go out as a family to eat. Today, I took my 5 daughters to eat dinner. When I received the check, I noticed an 18% gratuity added on as a LARGE PARTY. I have never had this happen and asked when they began doing this. The waitress said they'd always done it, but usually it's 7 of us (my husband, my self, and our 5 girls). Oddly, I normally tip 25%-50%, so in the end I did save money. Will speak with the owner asap. I don't find this practice to be logical at all. read more

Do yourself a favor and GO TO MASONS FOR BRUNCH. Mason's has a long-standing tradition in BR and they will not let you down. The atmosphere is very down, home comfort. You can tell it is a staple place for locals. Very clean with great friendly service. They are gonna be busy so be prepared but we did not have to wait hardly at all for anything. We really had high hopes about this spot because the parking lot was full and there was a decent wait for a table with many people lined up before us. The menu looked promising with mouth watering pictures. It took a while to get waited on but she had been busy with a big party table too. It took a while to get our drinks and she didn't remember we also asked for water too. We started with our Sunday standard Bloody Mary, their award winning Bloody Mary, called the Bloody Mason Mary was not disappointing. We placed our orders and waited and waited...when the food finally arrived it looked like it had been sitting for quite some time...you know when the melted cheese and the scrambled eggs look plastic and waxy, they looked cold...and all the food was barely lukewarm (that's generous). Finally, somebody else came to check on us and I let her know that all our food was cold and our waitress was busting her butt and she was given several tables and a party at the same time...no one appeared to be helping her or each other. The prices are actually a little bit on the cheaper side, the restaurant could probably raise their prices ever so slightly, and hire some expediters to get the food out to people faster. I would rather pay a little bit more and have my food hot when it comes to the table then to pay for slightly cheaper food and it's cold. Our meals were OK, but not anything to write home about, the kicker in this whole thing is that all three of us had significant digestive upset (diarrhea cha cha cha) within an hour of leaving the restaurant. I love brunch! Ive been here before and it's always the best. The only negative is that there will be a wait because it's always busy and packed. Oh and the parking lot is small. The food is worth the wait and the staff is great. I had the 3 meat omelette with bacon sausage and ham. Nice portion I couldn't eat the entire thing. Let's start with the bad and then I'll get into the good. Cons- Bottomless champagne (not mimosas), you have to buy the OJ separately. It's an hour plus wait time, even if you call ahead. It's so loud you can't hear yourself think, let alone the person sitting across from you... Cramped- squeezed in the corner while trying to not hit the couple behind you makes for an extremely uncomfortable atmosphere. Subpar service, we literally couldn't hear our waitress so I believe she stopped trying and started using hand gestures to communicate. Pointing at bottle for a refill. Point at the check signaling she was ready for us to leave. Food- nothing special, my stuffed French toast was 60% cream cheese, 35% hoagie bread, 5% strawberries. 100% disgusting. It's the exact opposite of what you're looking for on a Sunday morning. Pros- the lunch and dinner menu looked awesome! I'll definitely come back to try other items when it isn't a busy morning. Five of us went out for a birthday celebration. The service was excellent. Three of our group had fried shrimp in some fashion. All of them loved it. My grandson had a burger with a bunch of stuff added on. He also greatly loved his. I had the seafood quesadilla. I was disappointed that the cheese flavor overwhelmed any other taste. Not even any jalapeno taste. We will probably come back, but I will try another menu item. read more

My partner and I went to Mason's for brunch and it was excellent. We chose to eat on the patio so we didn't have to wait 20 minutes for a table. This place is very popular on a Sunday. Protip, there is additional parking towards the back. Our server seemed a little overheated, her face was flush, but she was friendly. I had the breakfast burger with a side of house potatoes. My partner had the chicken fried steak and eggs with a pancake and french toast for her sides. Warning, the burger is huge and messy, but delicious. It is topped with, two eggs, bacon, sausage, and american cheese. This burger is tied with my favorite Baton Rouge burger, the barbie burger from Curbside. The potatoes were flavorful and well seasoned. My partner and I shared bites so we could each get a taste. Her chicken fried steak was juicy and cooked well with a nice white gravy. Her pancake was very tasty. The french toast was my least favorite, but it was still quite good. The french toast a nice butter sauce i particular. In summary, Mason's is a great place for brunch or a good burger. We will have to return again for their dinner entrees. read more

This place gets 4 stars simply because bottomless champagne is $4.50. As an out of towner I have a special appreciation for this low price that is clearly unappreciated or maybe that's the norm in Baton Rouge. I had the Acadiana benedict which I wasn't over the moon about. My friend had the crab Benedict which she wasn't over the moon about either. Perhaps there's something that's even better that I have yet to try. But I'll be back to find out because the bottomless champagne is only $4.50!! read more

Only has margarine, no butter, and cook doesn't seem to understand how to cook a medium steak & eggs. First order came out well done, both steak and eggs were supposed to be medium. Second steak came out RARE. If you can't cook a steak right at a "grill" restaurant, why do you call yourself a Grill. Service was responsive, but cooks need to go back to school. Today I had the breakfast tacos and a Belgium waffle and bottomless champagne with pineapple and orange juice mixed . I love Mason's. I really do. There are some things I am not a fan of. Have you ever seen the receipt books stuck in the back of one of the waiter's pants? Or the constant refill drinks like water or tea sitting off to the side with waitresses resting their hands on top of them when they stop to talk? Other than that, I love Mason's. Great brunch. I should have listen to the reviews!! And not have tired this place. I ordered the fish tacos $18 which arrived with brown slices of Avocado. The hush puppies were raw in the middle. The MAC & Cheese was cheesy but somehow no salt or seasoning. The bake potato would have been good but I guess sour cream is a rare commodity these days because I barely had a dollop of it and they didn't give me the extra sour cream I ordered. I called and spoke with the manager and he recommended I go back so he can give me new slices of Avocado. Not fresh tacos since there fried fish!! Never again read more

Everything was okay until my wife received her order of French toast it was cold to the touch. When order was intially made we asked the waitress to be sure the French toast was made fresh yo order and thete was no batch cooking and then reheated. The manger was called over and he refused to remove the French toast (which was not eaten) off the bill. I went on a Sunday around 11:30 and the parking lot was packed!! There was a 45 minute wait for a party of 4. The restaurant was lively with a variety of sports playing. I had stuffed strawberry French Toast that I didn't care for. It was mushy. I also tried the spinach and artichoke dip and it was ok. It came in a pretty large bread bowl with plenty of chips. My mom had the baked tilapia and mixed veggies. She really enjoyed it. Maybe I need to try something different. I'm sorry to write this because my last review was a rave and I really want to be supportive of the new owners, but prices have doubled, which I totally get, life is expensive, but portion size have drastically decreased as well as food quality unfortunately. Everyone is still pretty friendly, but the last time we were there it wasn't even busy and our waiter missed half of order...twice. And if this was the only time this had happened recently I would have kept my mouth (fingers??) shut, but we have tried to go 6 times in the last 4 months and nothing has changed so... This is an old review I forgot to post. give Mason's Grill 4 stars straight up for food and drink quality. Most recent visit was very enjoyable. Went there on a Saturday night, after the early evening rush. Wife and I split an order of their fried mushrooms- yum! They are so good. I dip mine in Mason's ranch dressing. I had one of Mason Grill's world famous Bloody Mary. Excellent. Then my wife and I split a grilled chicken salad and it was outstanding. There are some really good salads around town and this one can compete with any of them. I've never been disappointed in anything I've ever ordered at Mason's Grill. New owners have raised the prices tremendously. They call happy hour two dollars off of the mason jar bloody Mary's which run $11 regularly. That's insane! I was wondering why the place wasn't packed like it used to be. I learned after I got my small plate of food and my ticket. Never again. They do not make their food fresh to order as indicated, and the management will not refund or anything once it's made even if it's incorrect or cold or disgusting.
