We came here on a Friday night, and realized we booked our reservation for the wrong day. The host were so amazing, they ended up making it work for us despite the busy night. We got the ribeye -- medium rare and perfectly cooked, truffle Alfredo -- A must!, And red crab asparagus -- so good!, as well as a few other items, but these really stood out, because of how well all the flavors paired with each other. We also loved all our drinks, my friend loves her old fashioneds , and said this might be the best she's ever had, so that was quite a statement. After being told how fabulous Masons's is, my husband and I snagged a reservation. It did not disappoint. Before I even get to the food, I'd come back based on the impeccable service alone. Hosts were so welcoming. And brought us to the second floor which was tasteful and a great volume for co version. The first floor was packed, and everyone looked to be having a great time. But I cannot overstate how fabulous our server, Bridget, was. Consummate professional. Attentive without being overbearing. Never rushed but never forgotten. Total knowledge of the menu. Perfect suggestions. And presented the wine like a pro. What really stuck with me was how she told us she enjoyed working there. That after eating there, she k ew she wanted to work there. That goes a long way with me. The owners were going to each table to check on the diners. Which I think is a very nice touch. Now the food. We started with a seafood tower which was so cold and fresh. And presented dramatically with dry ice. I got a huge kick out of it. We also had the green salad with ricotta salata, cashews, and a vibrant and sweet dressing. Salad was perfectly dressed, and the flavors were so balanced and refreshing. For our main courses, I had the buttery, tender, medium rare filet. My husband had the strip. Both were cooked to perfect temperature. I don't know how they got that much flavor into a filet. Usually you trade flavor for tenderness. But this was full of meaty umami. We had the Brussels sprouts and mini potatoes as a side. The sprouts were sweet and spicy and tangy and salty. All the flavors. But all distinct and balanced. And the potatoes were a refreshing change of pace from the big as your head loaded baked potato offered everywhere else. Went for the first time tonight and everything was amazing! We foolishly didn't make a reservation; will be sure to next time, Tony. but one of the owners found us a table. The menu is extensive with many tempting options, we started off with an amuse bouche, arancini with bacon, delicious. We each had Filet Mignon and a side; baby potatoes, mac and cheese and asparagus oscar (my favorite). For dessert I had the pavlova which was fabulous! I had a Flight of Bumblebees, a non-alcoholic drink with ginger beer, yum! TJ own server was attentive and did a great job. In a beautiful building formerly a Masonic lodge. It had been transformed to a g modern steakhouse. The service is top notch and the food outstanding! My ribeye was perfect. We loved the fresh rolls and oysters, as well as the blue cheese casserole. Add great drinks, especially the wine, and you have a big city experience in Quincy! There is parking across the street and valet. Minor negatives- the bar is a bit small and faces nowhere if waiting for dinner.... The Masons Steakhouse has been a long coming project for Jimmy Liang, Ming, Tony and his A team! As a local, I'm incredibly proud to say they did a fantastic job! They have finally opened their doors to the public and it's an amazing establishment added to the city of Quincy. Just what we needed! A fine dining restaurant that you don't have to fight the traffic or parking for. There's a parking lot right across the street and valet as well. They have garnered some of the best top chefs in town using the finest ingredients! You can definitely taste the bursting flavors and passion in every dish. My favorite dishes were the lobster bisque, the beef carpaccio, shrimp cocktails, grilled shrimps, the octopus, the bone marrow, the caviar seafood tower (Chef Ming Cao's NYE's special), the lamb chops and grass fed steak, bolognese. I had a party of 4 so I was able to try all my friends' dishes and they didn't disappoint! My favorite dessert was the affogato as Chef Rob (finalist on Food Network Baking Championship) used imported vanilla bean and they make the ice cream and chocolate bark in house! My gfs loved all the unique exquisite desserts and they couldn't decide which was their favorite! You can trust their bread and desserts as they also have a bakery down the street called Niveaux Patisserie! Stop by there for some fresh authentic croissants or baked goods! What a disappointment. I had been looking forward to my first visit to Mason's for a while. I purposely waited, thinking by now they would have worked through the typical new restaurant opening kinks. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Food * Lobster Bisque - Came out cold. Not the end of the world, it happens... but not a great start. * Hamburger - Ordered medium-rare, but what came out was essentially raw with an odd flavor. Whatever blend they're using with the wagyu just didn't work. Honestly, it was the worst-tasting steakhouse burger I've ever had. * NY Strip - Looked fantastic when it hit the table, but ended up being tough and overly fatty. Not what you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse cut. * Roasted Half Chicken - A complete miss. It was raw and cold in the middle when we cut into it. They took it back, but instead of replacing it, they re-cooked the same piece and reassembled it before sending it back out. Very surprising for a steakhouse of this caliber. A chicken entrée isn't exactly a costly item--replacing it would have been the right move. * Positives - The oysters were great, and the spinach was excellent. Service * Bartender - Fantastic, really on point. * Staff - The team delivering food was attentive, friendly, and charming. * Management - Unfortunately, very "green." When a manager stopped by to ask how things were, I explained what happened. He apologized, offered a dessert, and then excused the issues by saying, "We've only been open seven months, we're still working things out." That floored me. Seven months is not an excuse for a high-end steakhouse. Even more disappointing: despite sending back a raw chicken and barely touching the burger, nothing was comped--not even a round of drinks. Atmosphere This was the highlight. Dark, classy, and stylish. Beautiful bar and seating--really well done. I grew up working in restaurants, so I know kitchens can have bad nights. I also know Sunday-Tuesday can be "B-team" shifts. But Mason's missed the basics across the board. Worse than that, the management showed poor judgment and didn't seem trained--or empowered--to do what's right for the guest. For me, bad food is forgivable if the service and management shine. Masons is very welcoming and the service was good. Many of the pan Asian plates looked amazing. The problem this restaurant has is that the word "steakhouse" is in its name. I went here for steak. I ordered the NY strip medium rare. The steak was a joke. I laughed when my plate came. I could have gotten this steak at the 99. That is not an exaggeration. It was tough, and overcooked, barely an inch thick. No one who goes out for steaks regularly will consider this an exceptional option when compared to competition like Grill23, Capital Grill or even Abe & Louie's. It's not a steakhouse and the owners should consider removing the word from its name, and focus on its Pan Asian roots. The deserts looked amazing.
