We passed by this restaurant several times thinking that we should try it. We stopped by right about opening time and they had ONE table. So, I suggest when going to make a reservation. We noticed that most of the folks seemed to either know each other or know the staff. I would say that the majority of the folks we saw seemed to be used to coming for many years. The staff were pretty incredible in how coordinated they were. So, service was great! And the ambiance was that of a fairly upscale place. It was large enough that they had a band in the patio area. The food was decent, but seemed to have some items on the menu that were not Italian, and we both found that the food we had was not as Italian as we have had before nor is as reminiscent of Italy as some other places. For the halibut, there was not much sauce, the pasta "aglio olio" was really just some olive oil over quite Al dente pasta (what happened to the garlic?), and the herb crust was not as 'herbed' as we have had it before elsewhere, it was breaded though interestingly, and the fish was slightly over cooked. The risotto was so heavy it was hard to eat, but was super flavorful, although it did not seem to be prepared as well as I have had it before. It was so heavy that I was quite unable to finish it. The deserts were ok. The crème brûlée had its sugar crust a bit burned, and the tiramisu seemed to use just standard squirt chocolate. Overall a bit pricey for the actual meal and given it wasn't the most Italian, but there was definitely a stable clientele. read more

Finally got around to trying this spot out after passing by for so many years. Made it a special occasion since it looks like the type of place for special occasions. Had a party of 8 and came in right at open. We had reservations so seating was no problem. I wish I had photo's of the food because it was delicious. I remember some of the party had fish and it was tasty. Overall experience was good with a couple of huh moments but nothing to really call out specifically. Prices are fair for the portions. We'll be back to try it again especially since I didn't take any pictures of the food to show fellow yelpers. read more

Go-to spot for special occasions. Had a fantastic anniversary dinner here last week. Went for the Fremont "Restaurant Week" Special menu. Steak was cooked as requested. they allowed me to substitute the mushroom sauce that I wanted. It was outstanding! Had a great Zinfandel with the meal that paired perfectly. Sides and cheesecake dessert were solid. Our waiter was excellent! Friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. My wife is vegetarian and loved her Bucatini alla Vodka, lemon drop and Tiramisu. First timers and our food was fantastic!! The lamb and the chicken (from the alfredo) were so incredibly tender and yummy. The mashed potatoes were an amazing smooth texture, not chunky like other restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The bread appetizer was also so fresh and soft. Our service was amazing. The waitress was professional as well as friendly and attentive. We always forgot about Massimo's in Fremont but this is easily one of our new favorite restaurants! This is yet another case where I wish there were half-stars. There were so many things wrong and yet so many things right! Service: friendly but definitely on the slow side. On arrival, we were kept waiting awhile by the hostess stand without acknowledgement, but there were profuse apologies when we finally were noticed. Dinner service was a couple beats behind what we would have preferred. It was nice not to feel rushed, but had to wait awhile again at the end for the check when we were overstuffed and ready to leave. Atmosphere: very comfortable seating with big, plush roomy booths in a classy dining room. However, the dining room is open to the bar area and there was a sports game going on with raucous fans cheering loudly throughout our meal. This seriously detracted from the ambiance. Food: overall good, but I was a little disappointed. We shared the Crab & Artichoke Fondue; it was okay, but I couldn't really find the crab in it. I chose Fettuccini Alfredo with grilled prawns for my main course; the prawns were perfectly cooked and had a really nice smoke from the grill, but the Alfredo sauce was very bland. Even topped with pepper and extra Parmesan, it tasted mostly like a creamy white sauce without any tanginess. Overall, I think the place would be worth a return trip. I came here with my husband to celebrate Valentine's Day. Crab and Artichoke dip was good, crostinis were a little crispier than preferred. LOVED the Winter Risotto, and will definitely be coming back for that. My husband loved his Rigatoni Ala Massimo, the sauce was delicious. Star off for our server. He wasn't very good at all, and did the bare minimum. Then when the check was dropped he decided to finally interact with us and make small talk. Always great food and great service. Even when the restaurant is sold out, they've found a way to fit us in. Our preference is the bar area but no matter where, we always find polite and responsive servers. Favorites are the Crab Artichoke Fondue (we get this every time we eat here), the Double Cut Pork Chop, the Filet and although I prefer meat the Eggplant Parmigiana Lasagna is incredible. Oh and the bar tender makes a spectacular Traditional Manhattan. Massimo's is a fine dining experience and so yes you may pay a little more but not as much as some overpriced steak houses. We've eaten here 50 or more times and each time we go we're excited for the food but also knowing we'll be satisfied when we leave. Expect leftovers (nice portions), especially if you get one of their awesome desserts. read more

I've just been here once, but we had a really enjoyable time! The food was all really yummy (I would definitely order the chicken piccata again). Service was good (our server was very handsome). If there had been just one or two more things, like a really good specialty cocktail or dessert, this would probably be 5 stars! But considering I've just been here once and only tried a few things, 4 stars is very good! I would go back, but I'm not in Fremont very often. Why have I not been here before! Great Italian food. Staff super friendly from the hostess to the waitress. Place got packed for a Tuesday night to my surprise. Service was fast and attentive. Each dish was delicious. Had to slow down on the warm complimentary bread. Prices were on the higher end but food worth it. I have been coming to Massimo's for the past decade and I love this place so much - it's a small spot with a fine dining feel. The house bread is delicious (comes with a nice oil/vinegar combo) and fresh butter. The best dish in this restaurant is the pasta primavera with red sauce - I order it every time and cannot get enough of it! The service can be inconsistent- we have had waiters that have been super attentive and some that have been not. We love this restaurant. There's plenty of parking, restaurant has a very beautiful ambiance and the service is excellent. Food---everything we ordered is just amazing!! Massimos Famous Ceasar Salad is not just named that for no reason. It is super good. They make the dressing by your table, toss the salad and serve. We ordered an order and we split it 3-ways and it was perfect serving. 5/5 Risotto with Scallops is very tasty. The Risotto i cooked perfectly and the scallops were lightly seasoned and tasty as well. 5/5 Fettuccini with prawns. The creaminess of the fettuccine sauce and the fresh pasta is just heaven in your mouth. 5/5 Veal with vegetables and mashed potatoes was also very good. The veal is cooked and seasoned perfectly with their special sauce on top of creamy mashed potatoes and side vegetables. 5/5 We ran out of room for dessert because we couldn't stop eating our dishes. I had a wonderful dinner party at Massimo's for my husband's 80th birthday last night. We reserved one of the private rooms and had 10 of us at the table. Everything was perfect! Our fantastic waiter, Freddy let us set our own pace for all the courses and we felt looked after without feeling rushed. They even let us stay a bit longer than closing to finish up and say our goodbyes. The food, of course was delicious and all my guests were impressed with their meals. Appetizers are solid, the cajun shrimp in particular was great. The wine list was extensive & will satisfy most wine snobs. Over 10 years in Fremont and never been to Massimo's until a friend recommended this place. Parking was easy and we were greated right away by a friendly hostess. Honestly, the place surprised me because the exterior/location is in a plaza type building you dont expect a nice and spacious restaurant inside. They have a bar area which was very busy, a main restaurant sitting area and even a patio area. It looked clean and new inside (my friend mentioned it had been remodeled within the last few years) and all staff had on professional uniforms. I made the reservation online and mentioned we were celebrating a special birthday(s) in the notes. We were seated right away and our waitress was very attentive and friendly. She acknowledged our birthday celebration which was really nice as sometimes those online notes get ignored. I ordered from the specials; a shrimp and spicy sausage risotto which was really tasty! Cocktail drinks were also very good! My hubby ordered the porkchop and he mentioned it was just okay, a tad under seasoned but cooked well. We were offered a lovely bday tiramasu desserts on the house but also ordered the creme brulee which is one of our favorites. It was nice to have a good meal locally and not have to drive to Palo Alto or San Jose for fine dining. Restaurant is beautiful. Some of the staff seemed to be very friendly. Came here for a birthday dinner. Waiter was slightly rude with a strong personality. Another employee used a section where her camera of her phone was facing our table so it was pretty uncomfortable. I'm sure she wasn't doing it to record us, but let's be honest you never know. The presentation was exceptional. The food was slightly bland. After eating my food, I did have some GI issues which was not fun for a 5 hour flight. Massimo's in an institution and I was happy to take part in a substantial power feed there while enjoying the new remodel. Was posted up in a booth of course. First order of business was the bar. Sunny was a great waitress and understood our needs which were simple...lots of food and drinks. Warm up was a Mai Tai along with a Manhattan. Both were stellar. These light cocktails were accompanied by a shrimp cocktail and garlic bread. Shrimps could have been slightly larger but lack of size was not enough to issue a single star beat down. The next round (drink was a Peartini) of food was the avocado and crab salad. Yes. Spaghetti with crab then arrived along with a filet for my friend seen double fisted in one of the photos below. Dessert was Key Lime pie (special) and it was outstanding. Cheese cake was also ordered with both sauces on the sides which was a wise choice. Nothing not to like here so JUST DO IT. read more

My husband hasn't dined out since the pandemic and he's been nervous about going anywhere but we had a great time here. The seating areas were all divided with plexiglass so it provided comfort for sure. The service was exceptional upon arrival. The hostesses at the door were very sweet and seated us promptly even though we arrived 20 minutes late from our reservation time. The ambiance of the restaurant was definitely romantic, classy and appropriate for dressy attire. I noticed that it wasn't rated kid friendly but I believe it is (if you have behaved kids) lol. The food was amazing! We ordered the fried zucchini and calamari for starters then ordered one of their specials which was the filet mignon (I think Diane style?) but whatever it was- was amazing! Very tender and flavorful. The portions were huge! I'm not a fan of taking home leftovers but we definitely packed our leftover appetizers, although we completely forgot to grab our box as we walked out I would rate this restaurant 5 stars but only gave 4 because their cocktail options seem very limited. Excellent service . I had the linguine with clams . The sauce was runny and the clams were stringy with two unopened . It tasted ok, but not up to Massimo standard . I've driven past this restaurant 1000s of times but never stopped by until last night. They had a great set up inside, it looked very nice. However I wasn't impressed with the service. We often had to wait for long periods of time before our waitress came by to give us drinks, take our order, etc. Massimo's does offer complementary bread for the table which was great! The food was SO GOOD. we all ordered pastas. I personally got the pesto cheese ravioli with pine nuts. I've never had pesto cheese ravioli specifically before but it was the best I'll probably ever had. Lots of pesto, but not too strong of a taste.
