My husband and I are in our early 30's and have been coming here for years, you don't have to be "old" to have a wonderful dinner experience here! We even had our rehearsal dinner at Massimo's last year, that's how much we love it. i have a 5 month old and a 5 year old, and they have a fine time at Massimo's too! The last time we went was two nights ago. David was our server. He's our favorite but we've always been pleased with everyone else too. They're experienced, knowledgeable, and are not pushy. We noticed the menu had changed since the last time we came in. Change is good, but I was sad some of our favorites (large cold seafood platter, Steak Diane, vegetarian lasagna) were missing. I was looking forward to ordering the vegetarian lasagna with seasonable vegetables, which I told David. He said he thought the kitchen could probably still make it for us, which they did. It's still on their lunch menu. The only thing different was that it was now in a creamy white sauce instead of covered with red sauce like before, but it was still delicious and such a good value for $14. We started with the table side prepared Caesar Salad. It's a favorite, after eating this fresh salad no other Caesar salad s good enough anymore! They have a minimum of two per table, for $10 per person. Since there were 3 adults in our party we asked for a salad for 2 to split 3 ways. We all still got very generous portions. This cost us $20. Together with a bottle of Santa Cristina Sangiovese this was a wonderful meal. Another favorite of mine is the Veal Scaloppini ala Marsala. Mmmm! Still sitting here at the table in the lounge and writing this review. Brothers and I brought my mother here for Mother's Day Dinner and menu looked ok. We ordered 4 different entrees and asked the server to make sure they don't put any pancetta on anything.. He said don't worry none of the plates you ordered have pancetta. So the food came, we ate... After about 8 minutes of eating the (OK bland) food. We noticed two of our 4 plates contained chunks of pancetta. I called the server over asked him what those were and he said I'm not sure but he knew exactly what it was. We all confirmed it was pancetta. No apologies, asked if we were ready for dessert and that was it. We thankfully weren't allergic but unfortunately do not eat pork for religious purposes. This easily could have put someone in the hospital or been worse. My first and last time at this restaurant and hope my fellow yelpers and Fremont locals don't make the mistake I did and spend $200 for a horrible dinner and horrible experience. I have been here twice before and it seems that the food and service have gone downhill. I took my sister to see the place and experience the restaurant before I book my son's graduation dinner party. After tonight, I am better off booking my son's graduation dinner party somewhere else. Service is blah. Waitstaff is very impersonal. They made us feel unwelcomed, bordering rude. If they want people to come back, their servers need better training. Even the maitre d' was very unwelcoming, unfriendly. It gave me the impression that they hate their jobs. When we came for our reservation, the old lady in the hostess podium took my name, found my reservation in the computer, and said she will be right back. She didn't come back. A younger lady came out of the dining room and asked if we had reservations. I gave her my name (again) and then she took us into the dining room. As we were being shown to our table, we walked by the old lady who never came back for us. She was busy chatting up other patrons. Smh... Our waiter was very abrupt. Very mechanical. We had our 19 year anniversay dinner at Massimo's last night and it was amazing. We had Ted as our waiter and he was so helpful. To start, my wife wanted a cocktail, but since she does not drink very often, she didn't know what she wanted. Ted recommended a Cosmopolitan, which my wife loved. We then explained to Ted that my wife is Glutten intolerable and alergic to sea food. All of the apetizers had seafood and glutten, which is flour. He had the kitchen make a special vegetable appetizer that was amazing. We both had the spinish salad, which was also very good. It had a nice balance between vineger, feta cheese and sweetness. It was amazing. I had the special Pasta with Lobster which was to die for. At first, when Ted brought it to me, I thought it looked small and I said to myself, this will not be enough food. But, as I started to eat, the flavors of the lobster with the special sauce and the mussels exploded in my mouth and best of all, it was a ton of food. I almost couldn't finish the dish, but it was so good, I couldn't stop. My wife had the veal scalopini, which normally has flour in the sauce, but Ted had the kitchen make a special gluten free sauce that was just amazing. The veal came with a risotto which my wife said was the very best risotto she has ever had. We then shared a creme brule that was also very good. As far as the cost, we thought it was very reasonable. Bottom line: The service Ted gave us was AMAZING!! The food was AMAZING!! The cost very reasonable!! It is now an extremely overpriced place with oily appetizers, tasteless main dishes of Fish and Meats with a barrage of ill presented accompanying sides. This is supposed to be a fancy Italian restaurant in a residential city and it's a hit with some people - undeservedly so. The food is meh and the service is bleh. If you're looking for good Italian food, drive yourselves to another city, my friends. PROS + The staff dresses like they care + They make a pretty good salad tableside + Location (not necessarily food) is good for large groups or banquets CONS - Came in and stood at the entrance for 5 minutes before someone came to greet us and seat us - Waiters, though dressed up, wore old and worn out clothing and didn't really have much personality (felt like I was being served by resurrected corpses) - The food was really lackluster. I ordered the Filet Mignon special. It was pan fried and seared with lots of butter to where every bite felt like I was just eating butter. I love butter as much as the next guy, but give me some seasoning other than this! The dish also came with cooked bok choy, which tasted okay but was not expected for an Italian restaurant. - The service was really sporadic. The waiter greeted us quickly and got our drink order. Then he waited 15 minutes (even though we tried to waive him down) to take our order. The food promptly came out and was correct. He checked on us 2 minutes into our meal, then was nowhere to be seen for another 15 minutes. We had finished our food by the time he arrived next. He brought us the bill and we went to hand him a credit card and he simply walked away not to return for another 10 minutes! The food isn't terrible, but it's nothing special. People seem to give it high reviews because it's a "fancy" restaurant in Fremont. Hardly. The place is lackluster and boring with above average prices for poor service. My co-worker recommended this restaurant to me. This is one of the nicest restuarants I've been to in Fremont. The ambience is nice. This place specializes in fire. There's a fireplace in one of the rooms. My girlfriend and I ordered the Calimari Fritti and Filet of Beef Carpaccio for appetizers. I enjoyed both. For entrees my girlfriend ordered the Chicken Breast Piccata while I ordered the Ravioli Capri. We both enjoyed our dishes. For desert we ordered the Cherries Jubilee. This was prepared in front of our table on a portable stove. It was impressive to watch the waiter cook the Cherries Jubilee, because he had a blue flame emanating from the frying pan. Nice family owned Italian restaurant to satisfy your cravings. I attended a holiday dinner buffet and enjoyed their eggplant parmesan, chicken picatta and perfect tiramisu for dessert. I had some smooth cabernet from the bar and great laughs with friends and made the night perfect. Plenty of parking, nice staff, clean toilets. ok, so this place has a room that is named after the founder of my work b/c the founder of Massimo's & him were close friends, so having said that, i tend to eat here A LOT. When i go with work, the service is decent, not great (maybe b/c it's lunch?), but it's decent. Last year, my b-day fell on a week day so my friends wanted to take me somewhere to at least have dinner before the weekend and in jeans and t-shirts we went in and we received THE most awful service ever! (Normally we're all business dress for work) but wtf, should it matter? Hello Massimo's?? do you realize that you're in Fremont, a traditionally BLUE collar suburb?? so anyway, I mentioned it to my co worker the awful service I received and the owner called me the next day to apologize! i thought that was nice. I think since then, the service has been aight. Unfortunately, i just don't think the food is all that super-awesome-licious like some of my compadres at work think so. The food is ok, better than what you would make at home but not for the prices they charge. The dessert menu is average, i don't know where they get their desserts, but i'm pretty sure they don't make it there and they charge an arm and a leg for it! I been going to Massimo's for well over 15 years now and I have to say the place is a true Gem of Fremont and every time you walk in everyone is so friendly and upbeat and you just want to keep coming back for more. The regular patrons and staff all treat you like family with the friendly meet and greet attitude. Makes you wonder why you haven't been here before!? Billy the owner is always hanging around to come meet and talk to you regardless if your been going there for years or its your first time. Kudos to him for that, he obviously gets the fact that we love to meet the owners and be treated like were important. Over the last few years Tracy the event specialist has been an amazing addition to Massimo's as she is a fun enthusiastic fun loving person. Trust me you can't miss her! If you need to book a large party room, she is the gal to talk too and make it happen. Every time she puts a banquet room together I always want to crash it! She has skills for sure! The waiter staff is top knock and know the meaning of true service as that seems to be a lost art these days for sure! If you like table side salads or deserts this is a show not to be missed. They are fast, very friendly and go out of their way to keep you happy. I can't say enough about them other then the fact that they all are very hard workers with one agenda, to make you happy! Thats something you done see anymore! They recently have been making some changes to the interior to make it feel more bright open and having that feeling like you done want to leave. Whoever has taken on that project is spot on and clearly on a mission to make Massimo's stand out alone on the playing field of esthetics!! There food is not to be missed and its one of those place you can really play spin the bottle on the menu and you can't go wrong! We held our company party with approximately 110 guests here and received twice the service we could have ever hoped for on such a short notice. Bill was very, very accommodating and went above and beyond to see that the best customer service was provided from the time we signed the contract to the employees the night of our event. Although, I was busy most of the night and did not get a real chance to eat my food, I received nothing but great reviews from everyone about how good the food was that evening. My bf and I walked in here for dinner and felt a bit out of place. The atmosphere feels very old, starting with its decor. Everyone around us except for one other table were all groups of old people. But aside from that, the food here is excellent. The bf ordered ravioli filled with lobster (I think it was one of the specials of the night) and I had the massimo with rigatoni pasta. The flavor of the sauce is very unique and bold here. Even though I enjoyed the food very much, the service nearly ruined the experience. Our waiter was nonexistent and was too busy serving all his other tables! Also, what really urked me was that our waiter lied to us! We requested an order of the banana flambeed but noticed that were was a minimum of two orders or something. However it was written on the menu was a bit confusing to us so we pointed it out to the waiter and asked if it was ok if we just had ONE order of the dessert, which was OK by him. BUT, when the dessert came, we were served TWO banana flambeeds, which made us a bit suspicious! After flagging down the waiter, we asked whether this was being charged as one or two orders and of course, we were being charged for TWO when we clearly stated and the waiter clearly agreed we can order ONE! It just really irritates me when unexpected items are added to my bill, especially when we were trying to stay within a budget! And, the fact that the waiter wasn't very straight with us either just frustrated me. We could have made a big fuss to take the item off the bill but we didn't want to cause a scene..we just wanted to get out of there. I would have added another star to this review had the waiter or the manager came by and suggested to remove the charge from the bill (but that didn't happen!) Massimo's has so many good dishes on the menu it's hard for me to choose. Incredible veal dishes, pastas, and the minestrone soup is a must. All of their desserts are great but my go to desserts are the Tiramisu or the Mud Pie. Both made daily in the restaurant. You should treat yourself to dessert while you are there. My grade for this dining experience is a Big D. D for disappointing and D for Dull food. If you happen to be of an ethnic origin other than Caucasian then you might also want to skip eating here. We were an early reservation and the 2 main dinning rooms were mostly empty. Yet, we were escorted to their back room which definitely had a subpar ambiance in comparison to their main dining rooms. As our meal progressed the back room had the only minorities, 4 groups, in the restaurant. By the time we left, the restaurant was full in their main dining areas, except for the back room with the minorities. We celebrated my 50th Birthday here last year and really enjoyed the food. Went back tonight to celebrate 51 and was really displeased with our waiter. I ordered swordfish with garlic mashed potatoes. They came to my table with calamari steak. I explained that I had ordered swordfish and he said there was a misunderstanding. My husband and I recently move to San Leandro and were looking to get a nice dinner to conclude a long hard week. Tired of going to Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco, we thought we'd try something a little different. All I can say that we headed to Massimo's to give it a try and we were very impressed. Down this way--880 south, there are alot of chain corporate restaurants with tried and formulaic meals. However, we wanted something that would be welcoming and homey. Massimo's is a family restaurant, in the true sense. Think of sitting on beautiful big classic brown leather sofa booths and enjoying a glass of chianti and conversation. As for the meal, well it was delicious. We were fortunate to have Ted as our waiter. My husband wanted to share a cesar salad with me but I'm always weary of strong anchovy. Our maestro and cesar expert, Ted, made one of the best cesar salads I ever had. Now you have to take into consideration that I am someone who does not like fish period. I couldn't stop eating off my husband's generous portion. As we ended the evening, our hostess spent time to talk to us to see if we liked the restaurant and the food. She didn't spend the obligatory check and great 5 second conversation before moving on to the next table. No, she was extremely pleasant and personable. This is far one of the worst restaurants I have been! They should be getting 1 star! Perhaps the management focuses on dinner rather then lunch. Massimo's has its ups and its downs. I came here with my mom for lunch and drinks. She and my sister love coming to eat here and I was ready to try it based on their rave reviews. When we got there we were seated promptly by a center table. It was kind of dark with candles on the tables for light. It definitely had a classy atmosphere. The waiter was prompt and knowledgeable about the menu and had several recommendations. To start off we ordered the spicy rock shrimp and got a couple of cocktails. The rock shrimp was delicious with just the right amount of heat and flavor. We only ate about half of the rock shrimp to save room for the main course. We asked the waiter to box the remainder of the shrimp and he took it away to do so. The cocktails left something to be desired however. They were extremely weak and felt watered down. For the main course we had the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and the Spaghetti Bolognese. Those were both tasty and had a generous portion size. At the end of the meal we asked for the rock shrimp back and the waiter went to get it, then apologized as someone in the kitchen had thrown it away by accident. He made a fresh order and brought it along with the bill. I have seen the other reviews of Massimo's with other people having a frustrating experience. That someone apparently doesn't work at Massimo's because I just called there and they confirmed that they only make raviolis from scratch "every once in a while" and don't make any of their other pasta. False advertising. FAIL. They also advertise their food as "Modern Italian," check out the menu, eek! methinks not. DOUBLE FAIL. Overrated, overpriced, slow service. Came here a few weeks ago and spent $100 on mediocre food and service. The only reason I came here with my mom was to bring her to a decent place especially since we've never been and lived in the area for 25 years without visiting. The food is bland, presentation of the food is thrown on the plate without rhyme or reason, and my tastebuds were unsatisfied. That looks and tastes nothing like risotto, my friend. I had read Massimo's reviews so I had high expectations (46/96 rated with 4's and 5's). It was a very negative experience despite recommendation from a local colleague. I had dinner there with several consultants at 6:30 PM and the place was virtually vacant. The dining area was empty but we were told "all tables were reserved." We had to settle in the bar section which was noisy with 2 TV's blasting. The room was freezing despite thermostat displayed 73°. Service was marginal and food was unacceptable. Bread was hard and cold with warm butter. The bathrooms had not been updated since the 60's. Faucets were legacy and toilets were very out of date. Perhaps the dimmed atmosphere prevented customers from seeing how poorly it was maintained. As to the food, the halibut was overcooked and mash potato was made with instant powder. Veal tasted like cardboard according to my friend. Crab and Spaghetti tasted awful. My friend ordered her prime rib medium rare but it was medium and lukewarm. Waiters were no where in sight so she gave up. Consider how much they expensively charged, it was definitely a negative ROI experience and we absolutely will never go there again. Until they completely overhaul Massimo's management, please avoid this pricey restaurant! read more

We celebrated our Department's Service Dinner at Massimo's and was so excited about the whole gala. We had reserved the Banquet Hall and there were 45 of us in the group. Our group consisted of higher managements as well. Food We were not directed by the waitress as to where the appetizers where or the drinks. The halibut was cooked but cold; as a matter of fact everything on the plate was cold. It tasted like hospital food, no taste. The salad looked old, not green. The dressing was runny. Not fresh, bitter bottom pieces given to everyone. Leftover style salad was served. Coffee We were not offered Coffee, tea or any sodas during the whole time. We thought we were only getting water, though the company paid for the entire thing. Our own coworker served coffee and told that there is Caf and Decaf available as well. Some didn't get refilled with water, coffee, even after asking. Waitress Our group noticed that waitress was scolding the staff and being directive - you could tell by her facial expressions and body language, enough was heard but could not hear the details of the conversation. We felt that we had to be rushed out. Waitress took plates before we finished our meals. A cup flew on our chief guest. No spoons on table for coffee. I was so scared to ask the waitress for anything. I felt like she was trying to get rid of us asap. Everyone was looking forward to spend time with each other because it was a Friday night - the whole purpose of doing this event on Friday was not to be rushed. We were all very upset after we left Massimos. Never going back over there! Word of Advice, save yourself the horrible and terrible experience and go somewhere nice that you deserve. read more

I never knew fremont had "nice" restaurants. boy, was I in for a surprise. when you first walk in there's a long hallway with a desk in the middle where the hostess sat. my first surprise was the young hostess who was dressed in a black low-cut dress. I guess you have to do whatever it takes to attract customers. ;) I really didn't know what to expect when we walked into the main dining room. when I walked in I was admiring the decor. the room was dim, walls decorated with oil paintings and leather booths line the walls. this totally reminded me of house of prime rib except in fremont. surprise number 2. couple of minutes after being seated the waiter was already asking us if we were ready to order. my friend and I didn't even get the chance to look at the menu. we browsed the wine selection and asked the waiter for his recommendations. I could tell he wasn't very knowledgeable so I asked about the meritage wine. I swear he just picked one randomly and said it was the most popular. this was surprise number 3 because the wine, 2005 Napa Valley Cain Cuvee, was actually pretty good. my friend and I ordered the oysters as a starter and it was average. I couldn't remember the type of oyster but it was nothing spectacular. as our main entree we both ordered the filet mignon. surprise number 4! this was actually pretty good and cooked just the way I like it, red, bloody medium rare. for dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse. surprise surprise, not very good at all. the dining experience was just average. I had to write a review! I attended an event at this restaurant, lounge, and bar to celebrate a friend's birthday party. My friend rented the whole place to share his day with many friends and family. I didn't have a chance to eat off the menu, but the catering was fantastic! The owner came out to meet and greet the guests and the staff was very attentive. I had a virgin margarita and it was made with much love!
