I had a coolant leak and it was bad news. My fuel pump and timing belt had to be replaced and it was going to be pricey. When they called me with the price quote, they included a few things that were recommended but not necessarily needed. The price tag was still high but we worked it down to a spot that would keep my car running safely for the lowest price possible. I didn't try to get another quote, because I felt like the price ultimately was fair and did not include and unnecessary stuff like you get from shady mechanics trying to make an extra buck. It was MLK Day and I needed the car back the same day. They got it all done with time to spare. A few days later, they sent me brownies in the mail! That's never happened before. This was an extremely frustrating and unprofessional experience from start to finish. Our car was held overnight without anyone informing us. At no point did the shop proactively contact us -- we had to reach out every single time just to get basic updates. Even then, the information we were given did not match the actual timeline, and things repeatedly took longer than what we were told. To make matters worse, we were never notified when the car was finished. We only discovered it was done because we showed up in person, where it was found sitting in the parking lot. If we hadn't gone in ourselves, there's no telling how long it would have stayed there. We were also explicitly told we would receive a discount for the inconvenience, but when we checked out, no discount was applied and nothing was said about it. Between the lack of communication, misleading timelines, holding our vehicle overnight without consent or notice, and failing to honor what was promised, this shop showed a complete lack of professionalism and accountability. He said it would be done within 2 to 3 hours came back three hours later and the car wasn't even touched. He tried to blame it on the technicians Like he was unaware, which is ridiculous. When I went in, they treated me very well and they were honest and upfront unlike some other car repair shops. My vehicle still pulls hard to the right when I break during highway speeds. I had the right side lower and upper ball joints replaced for no reason. I was told that would fix the problem by an employee named Josh. I showed up at 7:45 a.m. in the morning just before they opened at 8:00 a.m. I needed a oil change, tire rotation, brakes, and for them to figure out why my vehicle is pulling to the right hard during highway speeds, it has scared me many times. My vehicle was first taking to the work bay an hour and a half later. At 11:00 a.m. I got a call from Josh who quoted me a price of around $575. Later on I got another call from him and the quote went up because he said he forgot to add labor. Later on after that Josh called me for a third time adjusting the quote up saying he forgot to add my oil change and tire rotation. Josh was insistent that my oil change was only going to be $34.99. I actually told him on the phone I thought it was more than that but he said "no it's just the standard one". The total bill ended up being around $700. They recommended the lower and upper ball joint be replaced. I called Josh on the phone and specifically asked him, will that fix my vehicle pulling to the right during highway speeds because it's dangerous. He said "yes it'll fix that" I asked Josh if you have any AAA discounts and he said yeah I can give you a discount I'll give it to you when you come to the shop. I explained to Josh that I'm traveling and I need to be on the road what time will it be done. He told me around 2:30pm or 2:45pm. I told him I'll go there at 3:00pm just to make sure everything's done. When I got there at 3:00 p.m. to pick my vehicle up Josh was nowhere to be found. I asked another employee how long it would be for my vehicle to be ready and he said it's about another hour and a half hour ot 45 minutes out. I was shocked because Josh told me 3:00 p.m. Finally at 5:15 p.m. ( I was handed my keys at 5:30pm. It took them 9 1/2 hours to do an oil change, change the brake pads, and replace the lower and upper ball joint on the right side) I went to pay my bill. I was surprised that it was about what Josh had quoted me the third time he had called. I asked him directly and said Josh where's the discount you promised me. He said he took $15 off for the tire rotation and discounted the oil change. Basically he took $30 off of a bill of about $700. Thinking the oil change would have been discounted from the $34.99 that he originally told me I noticed I was charged $54.95. I asked Josh what happened to the $34.99 oil change? He flat out lied to my face and told me he never said that. Then when one of his fellow employees came in lied again. The other employee who I believe his name is Mike asked me why am I trying to start trouble? He asked me what do you want me to do take more money off?? I could have said yes and got my bill reduced even more but I told him it's not about the money, it's about customer service. The money didn't matter to me, what I was promised by Josh did. It's crazy to me that when you're calmly asking about certain charges and holding businesses accountable by what they say, they think you're starting trouble. I was lied to on the phone by Josh and I was lied to my face. This may not seem like a big deal but to a business like this I'm one of hundreds of customers monthly. They care very little about people like me, to them it's a game of numbers and the bottom line. It is necessary for people to speak up when they've been wronged. If they don't businesses like this will continue to walk all over everybody. The funny thing is, if Josh had just spoke to me like a man and explained the situation, maybe said hey I messed up, I would have been a cool with it. Instead he had trouble looking at me in the eye and stayed quiet. Update: They never even fixed my vehicle pulling hard to the right during braking at freeway speeds. I've only been there twice, but I have to say I was impressed by their service. The biggest thing that they did to impress me was when I took in my SUV for an oil change. I have been trying to deal with this constant squeak coming from my front end and have been told that it was many different things that added up to a whole new front end or just learn to turn the radio up to drown it out. When I got my SUV back the squeak was gone. All they did was clean a couple of dirty spots on my steering linkage, then lubed it. Didn't even charge me for it. We don't use anyone else now. I found this place when I saw that the old store was being rebuilt/refurbished. I took my sons car in for an unknown problem. They identified and fixed the problem very quickly and cost effectively. Since then, I've had my car in for emissions, and other family members cars in for diagnostics and work. They are excellent. I do a lot of car repairs, so I can talk their language, and I can tell if they're trying to feed me a line. They have never done that yet. Mike on the front desk is knowledgable and never forces an upsell on anything. They did a nice job finding the same problems that 3 previous mechanics had told me about. However, after paying 200. For the diagnosis the bit to fix my car was really high. For a shop that specializes in exhaust it shouldn't cost over a thousand dollars to install a catalytic converter and bend several foot of pipe to connect it. In January (on a Saturday), I had one of my calipers completely freeze and damage my rear brakes and rotors on my Jeep Wrangler. Not wanting to spend a fortune with the dealer, and wanting someone who was a bit more specialized in brake care, I called Master Muffler & Brake in Layton. I had to travel the following Monday, and was worried about getting my Jeep back on the road. They told me to bring down the Jeep down and got it in and fixed within a few hours. I was really impressed with this shop. And get this - a few weeks after service, I received a card from them thanking me for the opportunity to serve me (with a little treat boxed up with the card). Wow. This just doesn't happen anymore. I figured I better hop online and give them the props they deserved. If I could give less than 1 star I would. I had a leaking Rear Diff Seal that turned into a new Rear Diff on my truck. I stressed that I was on a time crunch and had planned to be going out of town. Crap happens I am glad we caught it, but I was told if the parts make it in early Tuesday they would get it on before close (the next day is 4th of July). I live by the shop and could go past thru ought the day by noon the new Rear Diff was installed GREAT!! I call them to verify and am told end of day today we will have it done! GREAT!!!! I go over there about 45 mins to close because I have yet to hear anything ...... and it is in the exact same condition as it was in previously. I ask for an update and they CAN'T FIND THE GUY WORKING ON THE TRUCK???!?!!??!?!? And the proceed to BS me that the parts cam in late. DUDE I SAW THE TRUCK AND THEN CALLED TO VERIFY. I was told "I am sorry I can not hold to the promise you were given by some other guy, because he does not work today". Now I get to wait around for 2 day in the HOPES that they decide to finish my truck Thursday. The point, stay away from this shop they do NOT care about their clients. They turned a bad situation into a giant waste of time off work and broken promise after broken promise. Next time I will find a real shop worth the time and money who will back their promises to clients, no matter who made the promise, if they are wearing a Master Muffler shirt that is a promise by the company and the brand NOT the individual. read more

***AVOID THEM!!! DO NOT USE THIS SHOP!!!!!*** The final price to replace my brake pads and change rotors was more than 2x what they initially said it would be. Didn't have time to price shop so I went with them. A month later the brakes started squeaking. Took it back and they said there was road salt build up and to go wash the wheels really well and the squeak would go away. That didn't fix it. Took it back twice and both times they said they didn't know what was wrong. Went to another shop who said the brake caliper bracket needed to be replaced and that the brakes were halfway worn out. (This is 5 months after they were brand new). Went back to Master Muffler and they said they'd fix it for the cost of the part and that labor wouldn't be charged. I paid over the phone and picked my car up later only to find out they did charge me for labor. The brakes still squeak after paying them over $600 and taking it to them over 5 times. I needed a joint welded after replacing an exhaust section ("Y" tube and flex section) myself. The two pipes where I cut them for a joint were in great shape and I ground them to butt up against each other nicely. I called Midas in Roy, Utah and was quoted $20. Dropped the car off at Midas and was told I would be called with a price quote. I thought that was kinda weird since I needed a simple weld. They called me in a while saying they couldn't weld it, couldn't weld my stuff because it needed to be replaced. I declined, that B.S. said I would come and pick it up. When I returned to pick up the car I quizzed Daniel the front end guy and the shop guy. When I tried to pin them down, neither of them could say what exactly it was about my exhaust that was defective and not repairable. Seems like the real issue was there was no big money in it for them. I really quizzed them because I was planning on this post if they had nothing. I then took my car to Master Muffler & Brake in Layton, Utah. After a few minute wait a guy pulled my car into a bay with a pit under it. We had a short conversation, he went under my car welded it up perfectly in a couple minute and then told me to get in and go without any charge. Now that's lemonade! read more

Called and got a quote for replacing U-joints on my 2 wheel drive truck. The first thing the women on the phone said was "ooooh", that was very reassuring. Then after telling her it was a 2 wheel drive, she tried to quote me for a 4x4. Then she told me to hold on and came back with a quote of $384.00. She told me $84.00 an hour, a hour and a half to do the job plus parts. So $126.00 for labor and $258.00 for parts. "News Flash" U joints don't cost $258.00 for my truck, $30.00 at the most, and I expect a mark up on parts, but a mark up that high, no thank you, they are ripping people off, that don't know any better. I called several other shops in the area, got a price of no higher than $190.00, to replace my U-joints. read more

These guys are crooks. They were supposed to do a tune up, but my car ran worse after I picked it up. They charged me 80.00 to change the fuel filter, which I could have done myself at Auto Zone for 20.00 bucks. They will rip you off... they are sharks. Doug will try to make you repair things that don't need to be repaired just to get more money out of you. They are not honest, they are out to charge you every penny they think they can get away with. I have never been ripped off like that before. I hope they lose more money from this review for the amount they over charged me. I ended up paying 400.00 for a tune up. When I seen 80.00 for the Fuel filter.... It does not cost 60.00 to unclamp an old filter and clamp in a new one. read more
