Great Date Night Spot! My boyfriend and I came here for date night. The restaurant has plenty of seating and a great ambiance. We sat outside, our table was sanitized prior and the staff all wore masks; our waitress even wore gloves. To start, we split the 3 mini burgers. The onion straws were my favorite touch! I decided to get a margarita pizza and a side Caesar salad. To my surprise, this was a pretty large pizza and not personal sized! I had plenty of leftovers! My boyfriend got the flat iron steak platter with Parmesan fries. He raved about this dish! Overall, we had a great experience. Dinner was slightly pricey as expected with all the food we got. So I've been to Matchbox twice - once for a random night and the second time at a Yelp Elite event. I've already reviewed the elite event but this review is in reference to the time we spent here after the event. During my first visit, I ordered the spinach dip and a make-your-own pizza. That spinach dip made me do a little dance in my seat. It was really good. I secretly wish it had crab in it but either way, it was really really good! I was able to put two pizzas together in one order. I had a half-Margarita half artichoke pesto pizza. OMG OMG!! Super gooey awesomeness!! The brownie was disappointing. It was cold and hard. I am not so big on chocolate so I am in no rush to try it again. MEH! My second visit was more memorable however. Our server Estephania was super sweet. We truly enjoyed her pleasant demeanor and bubbly personality. Especially after such a late evening, it was close to 10 p.m. We did not order much. I enjoyed a jalapeno margarita and my friend ordered some smoked wings. I did enjoy one wing and it was rather tasteful. Smoked I believe is like a special order. Very happy that Estephania was able to convince the cooks in the back to hook us up. We were so full from the elite event and just really wanted to try one more item (wings). Overall, I have not complaints and I will return to try more awesome pizzas. I was pleased with my appetizers, drinks and entrees and most definitely the service. Love the layout, design and ambiance of Matchbox and the food just makes it even better. I came here with my family and they sat us right away. For an appetizer we shared the spicy tuna tartare tacos. The wontons were perfectly crispy and fresh tuna and the spicy mayo perfected the dish. Overall everyone liked their dish. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich which came with a deviled egg spread and pickles and lettuce. The bun was a little too soft for my liking, but the chicken was perfectly juicy and crispy. I would definitely come back for their happy hour menu and the inviting ambiance. Not to mention, they have a few menu items I'm dying to try. read more

Honest Review! We go to Matchbox every time we are at sawgrass however this time the service was horrible. We ordered a Cobb salad and it took at least 10 minutes to get salad dressing for it. We also ordered 2 chicken and avocado sandwiches and the fries were stale and cold. When we told the server Brittany she said that's strange we make them to order. We asked for fresh fries. Low and behold the fries came out crispy and hot as they should so I guess they do not make them to order. Never got a refill on our iced teas and never got checked on. First time here with the family. We've been trying new restaurants and today was my pick, so I chose Matchbox. We were seated right away and Manny, our waiter was very friendly and helpful. I chose the rose sangria as you see on the pic and it was delicious. I ordered a second one and it didn't looked as pretty or as well prepared as the first one. The first one had pieces of strawberries at the bottom and a lemon on top with ice. The second was just the drink and the strawberry on top. The flavor was a bit different, but not bad. I'm so sad I didn't take a picture but with kids its hard to have everything go your way. The food was good. We ordered the mini burgers, the spinach and artichoke dip, and the wings as appetizers. All very yummy. The ribs, which apparently are one of their "famous" dishes didn't disappoint. The meat was coming off the bone. I would have given them better reviews but my children's meal didn't come out until after we had eaten ours. Usually restaurants will bring kids meals first to keep the kids happy (hence no pic of my second drink). They kept saying how hungry they were and complaining. Manny was not around for a bit and when I asked about the kids meals he went back and said there had been a mistake in the kitchen. By the time the kids meal came my kids were cranky, one of them took literally one bite of the chicken tenders and was done with it. The other one ate one slice of the pizza and was done with it. As a parent I was upset. Manny while a great waiter to us, was young, and failed to cater to the kids. I can't blame him I'm sure he has no kids but hopefully this will help with future customers coming in with children. On our second visit here the pizza was cooked perfectly. The Spicy Meatball had a little bit of heat but not overwhelming and I am someone that doesn't like spicy . Big inside/outside bar. The service was excellent, but I must admit the food wasn't . Everything arrived lukewarm or even cold, and our basic fettuccine resembled a soup rather than a pasta dish. We did send it back, and they tried to fix it, but the addition of a very sharp cheese made it inedible. This experience has left me hesitant to dine here again. read more

My first UYE & what a fun gathering! The venue chosen for this brunch was great. It had a nice decor & atmosphere. The staff was welcoming, friendly, helpful & attentive throughout our visit. The dishes ordered by the table looked wonderful. I was pleased with the presentation & flavors of my dish, the Bloody Mary burger (minus spicy component). Tastiest breakfast burger I've had in a while. Why? *juicy burger cooked to order *properly melted cheddar cheese *perfectly runny egg *crispy bacon *fresh pico de gallo *buttery toasted bun *even bun to beef ratio All the fresh ingredients worked delightfully together. When we went to Washington DC last year, we considered going to Matchbox. We didn't, however, because I remembered they had a FL location near us. Boyfriend and I just didn't see the point of going to a chain in another place that was near us. I have to say had we gone, though, I think it would have been worth it. Finally had the chance to try this place when our friend, Amy S., set up a brunch there. Because there were so many of us, they set up a long table, so we could all sit together. From there, we were able to watch the FIFA final and chat to our heart's content. While we went to try out their brunch menu, many of us opted for the lunch menu instead. Hence, there was a lot of variety in the table. You had toast, chicken and waffles, skillets - you name it. Not to mention pizza. That seemed to be a popular option amongst the group. I had a cranberry mimosa that was delightful. I don't typically drink so early on in the day, but this drink got my attention and it was fabulous. As for my order, I had the garden skillet with one change: using the entire egg rather than just egg whites. This was delicious and an explosion of eggs, vegetables, potatoes, and of course, bread. My boyfriend had a breakfast burrito that ended up making him full the majority of the day. Meanwhile, Amy S. had some lemon ricotta goodness that I got to try and it was amazing. I probably wouldn't order it as I eventually would get tired of sweet things, but I liked it. Unlike other reviews, this one starts with the end. Larry is an unusual manager. His heart is that of an entertainer. Never saying he was the manager, he obligingly said yes to take our photo and even joined in on the "US-ee". Our server slash bartender, Britney, is an amazing bartender and a wonderful overall host. You must try the "2 Hombres" Mezcal Manhattan (Not on the menu). There was a slight fumble with the Ribeye, but it was more than made up for, and the artichoke dip was great. read more

I was able to quickly find parking a few steps from the entrance. Our group had the large "banquet" room with nice architecture. - wood paneling between the steel beams to make it look like the inside of a wine barrel. They also have a nice doggie friendly (though princess Luna wasn't there, there was a "15/10 golden floof :)" I stuck to just coffee since I had been enjoying an extended weekend, but some of the bloody marys my friend enjoyed caught my eye for next time. As far as coffee, I'm dinging one star because they only offer regular american coffee instead of a latte. I stuck to their brunch and enjoyed a classic chicken & waffles. The waffle itself was nice and fluffy, with three meaty pieces of lightly breaded chicken with sausage gravy. Although I asked for syrup, the chicken itself had a subtle kick to it. I love spicy so I was happy. Ordering with my eyes, I asked for a sweet side of their cinnamon bun and maple cream cheese. However, my main was big enough that I ended up enjoying my dessert later that night. I can see myself coming back. I was thinking of Matchbox 20 before the brunch yesterday and it would be funny if the band actually ended up owning this restaurant. Just food for thought ;) Even though I normally don't step out of my comfort zone for brunch, we ended up doing so and it was a great decision in the long run since the food and drinks came out superb. Amy did a beautiful job with hosting the UYE and the group enjoyed each other's company. We mixed and mingled on the mimosas, wine, bloody Mary's, and whatever else there was to sip on that kept us chatting away. The mimosa I had was mixed with the usual champagne and patron. Yes, patron! It definitely hit the spot. And yes, the lemon pound cake French toast was marked in the books. I did not think I was going to finish the plate off, but I did and it was worth every damn calorie. Does that mean exercise today? The staff and manager periodically came in the back room to check on us and we were able to watch the World Cup finale in between bites and sips. In a nutshell, this place is like a upscale, glorified Chilies. I highly recommend it for large groups as there is plentiful seating and a variety of things on the menu that everyone can enjoy. When it comes to food they're a bit subpar. Everything we had was tasty but not exceptional. My daughter got a strawberry lemonade that she said was too sweet, and that's coming from a teenager. And my boyfriend got an old fashioned that was nearly $20 and tasted like straight bourbon. I got a pizza that was pretty good, my boyfriend's meat lovers Pizza was great. The rest of the table felt like their food was just okay. Same goes with the service. Our waiter was meh. Overall, we were satisfied with our meal but nothing worth going back for. Maybe if I needed to do some shopping at sawgrass and had a large group. I'm actually having a hard time filling up this review with anything to say about it, that's how mediocre was. read more

I tried this restaurant a couple of years ago and I can't believe they are still in business. The menu is very limited. My daughter and I were at the mall in the middle of the day and hungry so we went in to grab a bite. The bartender was our waitress. She was nice. The food was unremarkable and we ended up leaving half of it. I saw a manager but never talked him. I wanted to tell him to dust the wood divider between the bar and the tables. The dust was impossible to ignore, so much so that a man at the next table went to put his arm on the wood divider but saw the dust and moved away from it. If your food is subpar then at least have a clean dining area. read more

I was unable to get in contact with the restaurant by phone so I walked in to book a reservation for 20 persons for a graduation. I gave all the information and was told the reservation would be put in and there was availability for that day. I got a call back two days later from a staff member to inform me that they cannot take a reservation that large over the phone. I quickly explained to her that I did not make it over the phone I came in person because I never got an answer by phone for more than a week. She then repeated oh you came in to make it? I responded yes and she went back into telling me that they could not take a reservation that large over the phone. She then told me I would have to speak to the events manager but did not offer to have the events manager call me or tell me how I could go about speaking to her. I asked to speak to the manager because I was given incorrect info by the employee that took the initial reservation. She put me on hold and came back to say the manager was in a meeting and he would have to call me back. I asked for the managers name as well as hers. It has been 5 days now and I have still not gotten a call back from the restaurant. The staff member was rude and unaccommodating and kept talking over me while I tried to explain and get some resolve to my issue. This is unprofessional on so many levels. Matchbox staff needs a refresher in customer service. I was able to make a reservation effortlessly for my group at a neighboring restaurant. I was to meet my friend for dinner yesterday. We usually end up at Sawgrass when we get together since it's middle point for both of us. Years ago we would start with shopping and then end at dinner but now neither of us is much into shopping anymore so drinks and dinner is what we kept from our "tradition" So, yesterday, we met up, you guessed it, at Sawgrass. Since I had seen many of my friends check in and leave good reviews for Matchbox, I suggested it for both of us to try. It is located outside the mall, at the Colonnade area. This, right there earns them a star right away. Not having to go in and fight the crowds, fairly easy parking, and fountains outside to give a relaxing vibe if there's a wait. We got there around 8pm. The outside seating and bar were busy but we were able to get a table outside without a wait. High booth table, open kitchen, and the restaurant, even when seating inside has an open feel to it. Our server (Ryan, I think was his name) was great! Quick, friendly, attentive and fun. I started with a "Opposites Attract" drink (I think that was the name). Vodka, grapefruit juice, IPA, thyme and simple syrup. I don't like IPAs but this is a great cocktail. Make sure you mix it well before you take your first sip, that way you will get a perfect sweet and tart flavor. It's also refreshing and came with the Ryan's seal of approval. As an appetizer we shared the Spinach and Artichoke dip. WOW!! this is addictive! Honestly, neither of us could stop eating it. All their food is made from scratch and you can tell, especially on the warm delicious bread the dip comes with. Forget about your diet and try it!! No regrets! My friend ordered a Margherita Pizza - personal size (and still had leftovers). Looked delicious and she really enjoyed it. I opted for their Grilled Chicken + Pesto Melt. The chicken was so juicy and tender, and that sundried tomato spread is everything on that sandwich! Comes with fries and pickle, and it's a good size (I also had leftovers). Ryan kept coming around to refill our water glasses, make sure we were doing ok and that we liked our dishes. Even when we had paid, he kept doing so and making small conversation with us, showing great service. I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. On the one hand, food was flavorful and they have a great all you can drink mimosa special, BUT, service leaves a lot to be desired. Matchbox is located in the premier outlets are at Sawgrass mall. Parking can be a pain. I came in on a Sunday at noon, And there was absolutely no parking close to the restaurant I had to park on the normal mall area, which was quite a bit of a walk, and since there is a lot of construction going on it was uncomfortable to walk on heels. We were seated on the upstairs area where large groups are situated. There was another extremely large group, we were about 16 girls having brunch. Everything and I mean everything took forever to come, from drinks to coffee, to the waiter just coming to take our order. He also didn't know much about the menu, every time we had a question he needed to go and ask and that also took forever. Some girls got their food way before others and that bothered some of the girls on my party. When it was all set and done, the food was good. But it didn't take us nearly as long to eat. The brunch menu isn't extensive, but brunch menu never is. They do serve everything else on the menu I believe, so you don't have to order just from the brunch menu. When we wanted our checks, that was actually a longer wait than the rest of the time we waited put together. It got so infuriating, that I actually got up and walked to the kitchen area to ask for my bill. I normally would not do this but I needed to be somewhere at 4 PM and it was almost 3:00!! YES! from noon until almost 3, and eating our food didn't take more than half an hour at most. I truly believe that had there being more waiters, and there hadn't been two large parties, us being one of them, things would've gone a lot smoother. I feel sorry for the smaller parties who probably had to wait just as long to get served. I would definitely give this place a try again, but for now, it is just a three star review read more

I enjoyed dinner with a friend. Inside was very noisy but luckily it was a beautiful evening and we sat outside. The hostess and the waitress were both lovely. I ordered gluten free penne vodka. it was good but it was a small portion and didn't come up with anything. Gluten free pasta was $6 more than the regular pasta and the prices overall were more than I expected because I must have seen an old menu on line. The steak was $38, I think the gf pasta ran around $30. Dessert was sublime, caramel and cinnamon gelato with a shot of (decaf if you prefer) espresso poured over it. I'm not Celiac and didn't inquire about precautions so can't vouch for safety. They didn't ask if I had an allergy though when I confirmed that the dish was gluten free the waiter quipped, "yeah, we're not gonna kill you." read more

Went here for dinner with family. Had high expectations, and unfortunately it did not meet. The restaurant was basically empty on Sunday night. They were out of 3 different items we tried to order. I ended up getting the ribeye, ordered medium rare. It came out very well done, tough as leather with no flavor. They were kind enough to make me another one, this one came out very rare. Overall the steak had little to no flavor. The asparagus was overdone. Was quite disappointed in the meal. . Another thing that should be addressed is the salt grinders. Each table had salt and pepper grinders and the salt grinders were saturated with humidity and the salt was wet to the point that the salt would not grind and come out. Based on the flavor profile of food I would not come back Shame because the restaurant does have a nice ambiance and the service was not bad. But the kitchen staff needs to be changed as the food was a huge disappointment read more

So....while I go to Sawgrass often, I had never been to Matchbox, so I was excited when a co worker chose this as his birthday lunch spot. I have been back 3 times and have had varying experience. Once with a friend (during the week), once with 9 people (during the week) and this last time with 9 people (on the weekend). As a vegan, I will say there are not a lot of options if you don't want a salad. They do have a build your own pizza, which is what I had the first visit, but it was over $15 for my individual pizza. I had a build your own pizza with the roasted garlic spread, mushrooms, kalamata olives, tomatoes and artichoke. The roasted garlic was very good. I did not have any cheese on my pizza. The pizza is thin crust. The pizza was good, just a bit pricy. My second visit I found out that when you do the build your own you get the sauce and cheese as considered toppings for free. I asked if I could sub a veggie for the cheese and it wasn't much different in price as I had 1 less veggie this time. I have had the same thing all 4 times. I also tried the minestrone soup (take away the pesto and it is vegan). It was okay but filled with veggies and beans. The small group trips...My friend has a cheese pizza with added mushrooms and another had the chicken pesto sandwich, his came with fries on the first trip. The 2nd trip my friend had the margharita pizza and enjoyed it. The most recent visit we had coffee and dessert. My friend and I shared churros. They are okay. I love when the churros are soft and these were not. The raspberry sauce was tasty. The chocolate was just okay. Service was good both visits with the small parties. Our service was good when we went with 9 during the week. My last visit, today (3/18), my opinion of service totally changed. We were seated at a high top. It is hard for a 8 year old to (or me) to sit on a bar stool without a back. I asked if we could switch out some of the backless chairs with the ones at the bar, which had backs. While the hostess was good with it and helped us, the bartender was a little nasty telling the hostess she needed to replace her chairs. Our server was friendly but non attentive. I ordered coffee. She came back with water and told me the coffee was brewing, but never brought the coffee. I told her to cancel it and she looked surprised it did come. Umm she delivers the drinks not a runner. We ordered the cinnamon bun...it wasn't much different than the one I buy in a can. Nothing special. My daughter ordered a kid's pizza which was the same size as mine but 1/2 the price (and she had artichoke on it). There were kids at another table who were brought dough. I don't know what that was or if it was something they ordered. The pizzas came out (including someone who ordered 20 minutes after the rest of the table) and the 3 people who ordered something different came out about 10 minutes later. The server never came back to refill drinks. We had asked for separate bills. Evidently only the manager can do this as the server told us her manager needed to do it and it would take a few moments. Once she took my card, she was gone for about 15 minutes. I have to say, that always makes me nervous. She finally came back and I was able to leave. I will probably be back, but only during the week. They don't handle busy very well. I would love to see some additional vegan/vegetarian options that don't break the bank. read more

We will return for sure because of the great staff and really enjoy the environment. Wish you guys continued success. Update: 2/29/20 Matchbox continues to have a great selection of foods which encompasses a little for everyone. They do a nice job with their Matchbox Meat Pizza and their Fried Chicken Cobb salad so delicious. I ask for their dressing in the side but everything else that comes with it avocado, egg, corn, is just delicious. Salad always comes out super fresh. The ambiance is really nice. The place is enormous and they have a beautiful outdoor seating with a bar that sit inside and outside. They do have happy hour and it is a great place to visit for that. We stopped in here during happy hour. They do have a lot of local brews, which is nice to see. Beers during the promotional period were a smidge high at $5 each, I think they otherwise go for about $7. Our server was Arthur, he was very efficient, polite and professional. Food is a little pricey so I had waited a while to come here to eat. Have to say everything was super fresh and tasty! My pizza was $9 during happy hour and it was great! My parents both LOVED the appetizers they had. This establishment has a LOT of outdoor seating! This is the perfect place to come on a 70 degree and sunny day, especially if you are a tourist visiting from a cold place like New England in January I will definitely be back again, but probably during the happy hour when it is a bit less expensive.
