Matterhorn bobsleds! Love this ride for the thrills and excitement of it! This attraction is exclusive to the Disneyland park in Anaheim, CA. The Matterhorn is an outdoor mountain roller coaster where you ride a bobsled through the Matterhorn mountain. Quick tip, there are two versions of this ride but, both sides are equally as fun; be sure to ride both versions! Anyways, as the ride takes off, you are blasted into a lot of twists and turns, big and small drops and you will also encounter a Yeti that will pop out at you! Standing in line though (as long as the line is) moves very quickly and gives you the feeling that you are standing in Switzerland complete with Yodel music and lovely vintage ski signs and props. This is a must when visiting the park and a crowd favorite amongst visitors too! read more

Lightening Lane perks- We were in line for no more than 5 mins. They have a separate loading line for single riders and lightening lane people vs stand by line. The ride leaves you wanting mores. Matterhorn is one of my daughter's favorite ride's at Disneyland. It's unfortunate that the ride always has a long wait time, unless it's raining outside! Make sure to get a fast pass for this ride, otherwise, you're looking at a 30+ minute wait time. You're riding in almost bobsleds. There are 3 people in each group.. Initially it's relatively dark going up the ride. There is a abominable snowman that makes sounds as you go up the ride. At the top of the mountain, you start to go relatively fast down the mountain. The turns can be a little rough and tough, but no falls or dips, it just turns. At the end, you may end up getting splashed with a little water, but you don't get wet, unlike splash mountain. I wouldn't recommend this ride if you have issues with your back or neck. It does turn relatively fast. Fun ride! If you're at Disneyland, you should at least attempt to ride it once. read more

I've heard so much about this ride and how much everyone loves it but I just don't. It's clunky with only a few yetis jumping out at you. It just feels like a generic ride from anywhere, not a Disney specific ride. I wonder if they'll keep it forever for the nostalgia or if they'll update it like they did Tower of Terror. But to be honest, I don't know how they'd update it. It's more likely they'd just tear it down. It's just an old ride and was meh. read more

Another great Rollercoaster like experience ride at Disneyland. I really enjoy Matterhorn Bobsleds ride because it's fun and fast. The standby lines for when I went was non existence so we were able to basically just walk to the gate to be seated in the ride. It felt like the ride was only 10 seconds because it was so fast. I took off my hat on this ride since I didn't want to lose my Project Rock hat and put my sunglasses away so it wouldn't fly away. read more

WORD OF THE WISE: If you have lower back pain or are just wary at all, you do get jolted around a lot on this ride and it is super rickety. My friend compared it to being punched repeatedly on the back. We were able to get a Fast Pass on this ride and came back within 40 minutes and did not wait too long at all. This is one of the rides that does have a super long wait time, so make sure to prioritize what you really do want to go on. You sit on the sleds, single file with 3 people per group and you ascend up the mountain before taking the trip down. I heard from my friend that one side shows you more of the mountain than the other, someone confirm that for me ! As you take the trip down, you get jolted back and forth and bustled up and down from how rickety the ride is. The yeti also comes out and gives you a roar and a spook here and there throughout the ride. It ends with a small splash through the water, but you dont get too wet. It's nice, but not an absolute priority for me. I'd rather go on Space Mountain honestly. read more

I miss taking a ride on their 6-person bobsled steel rollercoaster hurdling through Anaheim Disneyland's snow-capped mountain where an abominable snowman resides. Their new seating arrangement from their last renovation (within the past 5 or so years?) makes it easier for passengers to climb in and out of the bobsleds, but I wish that there were a way to cushion the seats and insides of the sleds. I always walk away feeling like I'm hurting in multiple areas from all the jarring turns and stops. All in all it's still a fun, classic ride at Disneyland that is worth experiencing at least once while you're at the park! read more

This is one of the rides you want to ride multiple times. The line was long but if you have the DAS pass or lightening lane pass than you can book the next time frame and get there when it's ready to scan you through. All I have to say is permanecer sentado por favor. This is my all-time favorite thrill ride at Disneyland and has been since I have been a kid. The bobsleds and inside have gone through some changes over the years but this still whips you through ice caves and dodging those creepy Yeti. Take you around treacherous curves, and rickety bridges and then splashes you into the icy cold water at the end. What is not to love? I must say though as I get older my back hurts a little more with each visit. But to me its worth it every time. I am not 12 years old anymore but this ride makes me feel like it. Opened in 1959, the Matterhorn Bobsleds was the first tubular steel coaster on the planet, and is the only Disney park featuring this ride. EXPERIENCE: Rising on the border of Tomorrowland and Fantasyland, the glistening, faux snow-covered mountain is modeled after the famous peak of the Alps. The coaster features dual tracks, one being a little over 100 feet longer than the other. The first and only lift hill of the ride takes you up through a dark cave, complete with howling wind and monster noises and a cool, life-sized moving image of the abominable snowman giving chase from behind an ice shield (added recently). Top speed is just 27 mph, but the peripheral effects of riding through ice-covered caverns, caves and tunnels, along with cutouts with views of the outdoors makes it feel like you're going a little faster. A combination of small drops, hills and banks ups the fun factor, but it's far from thrilling. Look for the resident abominable snowman (now animatronic) along the way. The finale is a splash through a small pond that actually aids the coaster's brakes with cooling and stopping, and is not a people-soaker.   FUN FACT: The ride is perched on excavated dirt from Cinderella's Castle.  Prior to the coaster being built, the "hill" was promoted as a picnic spot but also turned into a "lovers lane" site at night, LOL. Nice, classic ride. Went here last summer and am only getting to the review now. Due to the lines on a previous trip, I was never able to try this ride before. I mention "classic", since this is one of the older rides (though it has been slightly refurbished) and you can't find this in the larger Disney World. It deceptively larger inside than it appears from the outside - but it's still sizable from the outside. The lines gather quick for this one, so try to make it early or get a fast pass. It's basically a roller coaster with a theme. The coaster is smooth, though some turns and/or bumps and it's quite fast. There are 2 routes you can take, though we didn't get much of a choice and couldn't tell one from the other. I did see both routes on a Youtube video and they look similar enough with the only difference being in one of them you could potentially get a little water splash over the other one. The creatures inside have been upgraded and look good. Some smaller children may get scared on this ride between the speed, darkness, noise, or creatures - so use caution. All in all a good ride located in the Disneyland part of the park opposite the Nemo ride. If you've been to Disneyland and haven't ridden on it, it's surely worth it at least once. read more

Why is there always a ridiculous wait time to get onto Matterhorn? I don't understand. The ride is okay, and sure, they've done some upgrades, but it's not worth waiting 75 minutes for IMO. They have a single rider line that sometimes you can take advantage of. That can cut your wait time into a fraction, but you kind of lose the joy of getting to experience it with your friends - imagine screaming around the ride with strangers...a little strange for me. I would definitely get on this ride again if the wait time is under 40 minutes. Otherwise, you can find me at your nearest churro stand. read more

Having tried every single ride in both parks within a year, I gotta say this is the WORST ride ever, in my opinion. Gave it two chances but horrible each time. Ride is waaaayy too bumpy and uncomfortable, needs some serious renovation. Regular line was 100 minutes wait on a Saturday afternoon, but i was able to get on the Singer Rider line and it was only a 10 minutes wait! 5 Star for the speed of the Single Rider line! The race is on! We were able to get a FastPass for this ride and just as our group was the next ones to board just our luck a 'minor mechanical glitch' happens. It wasn't a quick fix either but we were given another FastPass to come back once the issue was fixed and cleared to run again. We got out of the line. Meanwhile, Mickey's Soundsational Parade was going on [4:30p] and was going the same route where we were on Fantasyland so we were able to watch a little bit of it. It was hard to see through the already waiting crowd that got there early. After about an hour we went back to Fantasyland and we lined up in the FastPass line and we were able to board this time! Yay! We hopped aboard a 6-person sled and off we went on a high-speed run down the icy slopes of Switzerland's most famous peak, well, okay, off we went in our rollercoaster swooping in and out of shadowy caves and dodging the abominable snowman. This ride has two separate lines! The race is on... the bobsleds are running simultaneously and at times it looked like the two are racing. Queue in one of 2 nearly identical bobsled runs: one is located in Fantasyland and the other along the outskirts of Tomorrowland. 2.5 STARS We ended up with FastPasses for Matterhorn on Monday, November 19th. I believe my group of around seven-ish people went sometime in the AM. I think the height requirement for this is 42", so only the older kids could ride. They were aged 4.5 to 7 years in age. I used to love this ride when I was younger. But I guess what I didn't remember was how rickety and painful it was? Ouch! My poor old hipbones kept hitting everything in the bobsled. Was this ride always this bumpy? Made me feel very old. Even the cousins in their early 20s said the same thing. Plus, I didn't recall getting wet on this ride. So be prepared if you plan on riding. Not my favorite ride. I'd make time for others before this one. At least we didn't really have to wait in line. read more

I would've given this ride a 5 star rating if it weren't for its super bumpiness. The seat wasn't cushioned so the bumpier it was the more uncomfortable it was for my b*tt. Not so good vibrations. This ride is just.. bad. I thought it was okay before it the refurbishment. I would've given it 3 stars then. After the refurbishment, it just became a disaster. Opened since 1959, Matterhorn Bobsleds is an attraction at Disneyland composed of two intertwining rollercoasters. It's modeled after the Matterhorn, a mountain in the Swiss Alps. It's also the first tubular steel continuous track roller coaster ever constructed. Before the refurbishment, you had these seats where you can literally sit and lean back/get held by someone behind you (hopefully someone you like). They changed it now so you're sitting in separate seats but they're drastically uncomfortable. It's like you're sitting in elementary school chairs. Plus, I feel like my legs are pushed up against my body. How is this even comfortable? I was also hoping the tracks would be smoother but it wasn't. It felt like my ear drums were rattling throughout the duration of the ride. Totally not a good feeling. Getting vibration sensations are quite pleasurable in certain spots (if you know what I mean) but certainly not in the ears. This ain't no Hitachi Wand. I do like the effects in the ride as well as the abominable snowman that randomly roars when you pass through. But the rough tracks and the uncomfortable seats have really steered me away. read more

You go through turns and tunnels! Bumps and curves! All the while wondering "When the hell is this ride going to haul ass"? It doesn't! Nevertheless, it's still a fun ride! You should shoot straight here as soon as the park opens! In the afternoon the line is ridiculously long! I wouldn't wait unless I was just spending one day in Disneyland! The seats are very uncomfortable! So if you have back problems or have trouble with getting up off the ground, you should pass on this bobsled! Another option would be to hold your butt up slightly during the ride! (I did and it gets tiring) All this to me is worth it! TIP: if you want a smoother ride go with the LEFT! One of the classic E-ticket rides at the happiest place on earth! It was recently renovated and I couldn't wait to check it out. The line moves pretty fast on the Tomorrowland side of the mountain. We had gotten in line on one particular visit, but it was late and the ride was down for menchanical check. Our highly anticipated visit would have to wait until next time. Next time arrives... For the most part, the ride itself has the same twists, turns, dips and drops that have pleased park goers for years. The renovations include new bobsleds that seat one person per seat and a new Yeti snow monster that's bigger and moves more realistically toward the bobsleds as they pass. So cool! One of the parks first E-Ticket rides is still as rough and jarring as it was when it first opened. They have recently redesigned the bobsleds to have a one person per seat configuration. In the past you might of had someone sitting in between your legs. This new bobsled probably expedites loading and unloading which makes for a faster line. When I arrived at the Matterhorn (Late morning) the line wrapped to the back of the mountain but surprisingly it wasn't that long of a wait. There is no fast-pass for this ride. The ride is fun of course, with a mix between dark tunnels and nice outside openings. If you are prone to neck or back issues then I would stay away from this one. There are some scary portions for the little ones but it's tame compared to space mountain. read more

I am sorry to the 8 year old Disney newbie if I lied to you about this ride. I blame it on my short term memory loss that you get once you hit 30. If your new to Disneyland, this classic ride is a must. Even with a 75 minute wait. You should wait it out. If you have been on it before, then no it is not worth the wait. Yes its a fast ride. But there is really no big drops. What you can expect is to be thrown all over the place with the illusion of losing your head especially if your tall like me. At the end there is a small splash. When Disneyland first opened, Matterhorn didn't exist. It was just a patch of orange trees. Now, you can see the Matterhorn off the 5 freeway. The mountain stands at 146 feet tall and on occasion you can people climbing up the mountain (although the last time I've seen this was about 10 years ago). This also the place where Tinkerbell descends from during the fireworks show at night. With the recent remodel, you can locate two bright, icy, scary Yetis during the ride. They've added a few other bling and visual effects to the ride. But it is still one big bumpy ride!! You jerk a lot, bang your body against the car, and the dips are not too kind on the body. The ride is not by any means a smooth ride. Another little annoyance is that you ride tandem (this could only be good for the one in the front as the person sitting in back of you pretty much sees the back of you head and is trying to dodge your hair in his/her face at the same time), but for couples and riding with little ones this is forgiving. That said, the line for this ride may look overwhelming but it does go fast. It averages from 20 to 45 minutes. I still enjoy the ride despite the jerks, bumps, and slams. Getting a little scare from the Yeti is also fun. I've been on the ride during the fireworks and it does give a little umph to the ride. It's nice to have the visual of things exploding right in front of you on a roller coaster :) LIttle tidbits: The 1/100 scale of the 146 foot tall Matterhorn at Disneyland is set in exact geographical alignment with the Matterhorn in Switzerland. It is believed that the Tomorrowland side of the ride is faster than the Fantasyland side. There is a half-sized basketball court inside the Matterhorn. THE SEATS Well, I actually have to give it TWO STARS because since the new bucket seats, I don't fit. I'm not My 600 Lb Life huge. Yes, I am more Wilson Phillips than Emo Phillips, but at 240 lbs and 6 feet, I've seen taller and bigger people fit. It might have something do with my arthritis. Anyway, my last ride I crammed myself in and my knees were almost to my teeth. And with my legs pushing on the edges, every turn was a painful pinch, so much that I wedged my fingers in for a buffer and I began to think that more than 50% of the screams I heard were screams of pain. But, let's assume you fit. In that case, Matterhorn is so awesome for the most part. THE LINE First, it never seems to be more than a 30 minute wait, even if the line hits maximum, wrapping around the mountain, and for some reason I never hated waiting in this line, with the lagoon to the right, refreshment stands, and the small winding part where you can watch the lederhosen-clad people load the bobsleds. Watch out for the part where the line gets divided by the people exiting... in our old days, we would exit and get back in line if they weren't paying attention, even easier now since everyone is on their phone. Back then, we didn't have phones. We had to stare at our telegraphs. THE RIDE Because it's enclosed within the mountain and you feel and hear the wind rushing past you, it feels like the fastest ride in the park. Most times it feels slick, other times rather bumpy. In all my years I never bothered to anticipate Harold's presence, so it always feels like a surprise when I see the Yeti, both in his innocent old days and fearsome new days. Just remember to close your mouth at the end so you don't get any amoebas splashing into your mouth. And, of course, Permanecer Sentados Por Favor!! BONUS Try to get a selfie with you and the Yeti. Even with a horrible camera I got lucky with only a few tries. Until the next update, my love for the Matterhorn will be on hold. I miss the old seats. Well, except during my teenage years when a girl sat in front of me and I couldn't control my blood flow. read more

I must be getting old because the Matterhorn Bobsleds used to be one of my favorite rides at Disneyland but now they pretty much eat me alive. This ride is rough as all get-out, even the supposed "smoother" side (which is the right; the left is even more jerky with rougher drops). Every time I exit this ride I now feel sick for half an hour afterward and my back and neck hurt for the rest of the day. I think I may soon retire from experiencing this attraction because it's not that much fun for me anymore. The new bobsleds are cool looking and you no longer have to stuff yourself in one seat to share with a second person (thank goodness), and the ride has had some updates including adding a SWEET Yeti effect. That's the best part of the ride by far and it's worth suffering through a ride just to see it. The ride also affords some gorgeous views of the park after the initial climb. This is by far the wildest ride in Disneyland park, even though there aren't any loops or major drops. You've been warned! read more

This ride is unique to Disneyland. Not in florida but not sure about euro or Asian Disney's. When we lived in socal in the early aughts we were season pass holders and went here pretty much every weekend and it was the first ride of the day. When my kid was 4 she lost her hat on the matterhorn and to this day every time I ride it i still look for that red hat. Damn yeti took it. Some minor tweaks through the years but still the same awesome ride its been forever. Tip: they have a semi-secret single rider line that mixes with the fast pass line so you don't have to wait two hours later in the day. read more

Really fun classic ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. This is the first ever roller coaster @ Disneyland. This ride does hurt but it can be worth the lite pain, especially if its your first time to Disneyland. I recommend trying to keep your head back through the ride because you get whipped around the track. Being that it is the OG Disneyland Roller Coaster, the track is definitely more rough than newer roller coasters like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The line gets really long for this ride so be ready to wait. Thankfully, they have Fastpass and Single Rider for the ride, so make sure to grab a Fastpass or try you luck in the Single Rider line, so you dont have to wait as long read more
