Fried to a nice, golden brown and covered in panko crumbs, it didn't feel heavy at all. It came with a fresh marinara sauce and had parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the fried ravioli. Each bite was cheesy, crispy, tasty, meaty, and we devoured it quickly! Carbonara Alla Roma - 8.5/10: I thought the portion would be small since I seen photos online but it was actually a great portion. I had enough to take home and eat as leftovers! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the alfredo sauce was balanced and decadent. I could taste the pecorino romano, and cracked black pepper. The pancetta was smoky and added a nice umami flavor to the pasta. I didn't rate it higher because it was slightly missing a little bit of of that BAM factor! but it was pretty delicious! The Sofi - chicken - 9/10: Oh my gosh! My best friend got this and I wished I would have too! It was sooooooooooooooooooo good! It had prosciutto di parma, mushrooms, asparagus, shallots, cooked in wine and tossed in a rose cream sauce. The pasta was also cooked perfectly and that sauce was to die for! Each bite was like tasting the finest flavors and spices of Italy. I could not believe how tasty this was! If you come here, you HAVE to try this dish! Tiramisu - 9.5/10: One of the best tiramisus we've had in Jacksonville. It was the perfect amount of espresso and cream. They had dollops of chocolate sauce on the side and helped elevated the flavor of the tiramisu. It also wasn't super sweet which we appreciate. We don't really like overly sweet desserts and this one hits the mark on everything. Overall, service, food, and atmosphere was great! We would definitely come back to try other menu items! You can tell she knows what she's doing and actually cares. She made the whole night better. Felt like we were being taken care of by a friend, not just a server. We were joking we wished she could pull up a chair and have a drink with us because she fit right in with us. Nela is a big reason we'll be back. Next time we're bringing friends. SOFI'S is lucky to have her.

We initially asked for indoor seating, but after seeing how cozy the space was, we happily switched to outdoor seating since the weather was perfect. We ordered two of each oyster, and they were fresh, salty, and incredibly smooth. We also decided to try the baked oysters--something my husband doesn't usually go for--but they ended up being his favorite. So much so that we ordered another round. Overall, it was a fantastic night and a great experience. We'll definitely be back.

Unfortunately, my entree was not as good as the rest of my meal. The flavor of the scallops was strange, I am guessing from the pea flavor. I love mushrooms and risotto, but this one was not good. The risotto was not super creamy, seemed a bit uncooked. Based on most of our meal, I would definitely return to try other entrees.

Per usual, we finished up with Midtown Table Ice Craam. I *rarely* use this phrase but if you haven't had it, you're just plain missing out. From the moment we walked in until we left, the staff was friendly, attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. We started with the Calabrian chili wings. They were crispy, hot, and packed with flavor. My only criticisms are that a few of the wings could have used a little more of the Calabrian glaze, they were disrespectfully small, they were all flats, and surprisingly, the restaurant doesn't serve blue cheese dressing despite offering several dishes featuring blue cheese. For my entrée, I ordered the hand-cut fettuccine with glacier blue cheese cream sauce, Calabrian honey, tomato confit, crispy pancetta, and added steak. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the dish had an incredible balance of sweet and savory flavors. I've ordered this same dish on all three visits because it's that good. Every time I tell myself I'm going to try something different, and every time I end up ordering it again. My wife ordered the vodka pizza, and it was excellent. After trying a slice, I can confidently recommend it. On future visits, we'll probably order the pizza as an appetizer to share. It's delicious, easily shareable, and a much better value than the wings or some of the other starters. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and each one was excellent. The frozen fruit and vegetables embedded in the ice cubes were a creative touch that made the drinks feel even more special. If I had one suggestion, it would be to serve bread with the pasta dishes. Let's get into the highlights: some of the freshest table side guacamole I've ever had. Made right in front of you and you get a ton for what you pay for. My lunch portion of my Yucatán Quesadilla was only $9.99 as it was a Friday and it was just okay. Unfortunately, I did have to cut it myself. The "small" margarita for $12.99 is absolutely gigantic. In fact, every drink I saw come out was of ginormous proportion and seems to be the main draw here. Unfortunately, I was a bit let down by both the salsa, as even though there was a full bar, none of the options were all that tasty. The biggest detractor was honestly the service. Our server was extremely nice on the surface, but every opportunity was used to upsell by every member of the staff. A bigger drink, another appetizer, another drink, handing us their card and asking for a review following paying. I normally never have issue with this but it became overwhelming at a certain point. This restaurant absolutely feels like it has potential, but might suffocate over its mistakes in an extremely crowded Town Center/Southside Market.

MARK MY WORDS: BEST RESTAURANT IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA! I had arranged a private dining event with Sarah a week in advance. She was extremely helpful in getting us the reservation and following up. Nick was our server for the event and he was outstanding. His service was top notch, he was well prepared and thoughtful. The entire staff there, from Dalvin the bartender to Nick's service assistant who went by the code name "ginger", was helpful and attentive. Matthews has perfectly executed every meal and drink I've ever had there on 4 different visits. I am originally from the DC metropolitan area and have seen some really nice restaurants. Matthews stands out in JAX and could rival any of those. As far as the dining experience and food: We had some cheese and meats along with the fried blue cheese stuffed olives, yes fried blue cheese stuffed olives with sundried tomatoes and more! As far as the appetizers go: I have never seen such an amazing selection of appetizers. I literally wanted one of each. I tasted the foie gras: perfectly prepared and caramelized with a confi onion and marmalade, the amazing seared pork belly, and the escargot with prosciutto, enough said. My entree was the Wild Boar Tenderloin where I received another small piece of the foie gras, the boar prepared perfectly (Med) and seasoned perfectly, accompanied by the a la carte sides of the mac and cheese, truffled fries, seasonal veggies and honey, and the best roasted fingerling potatoes with fennel I"ve ever had. We had many sides to share for the table. I was fortunate enough to have shared a piece of the lupe de mar (Bronzino) and the snapper fish dishes. The Bronzino was the best filet I've ever had with a nice thickness, no bones, perfectly seasoned/crispy skin that I cut with a fork. The sweet potato souffle was phenomenal, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory. We did enjoy a couple of wonderful wine selections from a damn good menu put together by Pavel. I really like how he selects wine. The Latour Premier Cru Montagny Chardonnay was stellar with all of the rich food, along with the Chianti Classico and the Semillon dessert wine. This is the meal made for big time pallets who enjoy the rich/decadent flavors that the culinary world has to offer. I hate to give this gem away, as I know when I come back this spring it will be harder to get a table! If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience, look no further than Matthew's. While we were searching for a business venue for a large event, we stumbled upon this gem. Although it couldn't accommodate a large group, it would be an ideal venue for executive meetings or intimate gatherings. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like the only guests in the restaurant. The open view of the chef in the kitchen added a unique touch, allowing us to see the culinary magic unfold. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and demonstrated expertise in every aspect of the menu, making excellent recommendations. The level of service and attention we received was impeccable, striking the perfect balance of being attentive without being intrusive. Our parent's 50th Anniversary is the most special occasion I have ever celebrated. Last Saturday, we hosted a dinner party for them at Matthew's and we could not have been more pleased with the evening. I called our mother the next morning and she said "everything was so gorgeous that I felt like I was in a dream the whole time." Thank you to Marshall, Cindy, Dalvin, Jacob, Sterling, and the entire Matthew's team for everything you did to make this incredible 50th Anniversary celebration so beautiful. It means the world to us that our parents were able to relax and enjoy this special evening, knowing the details and execution were in your gifted hands. Your kindness, patience, and professionalism made a huge difference during the planning process and as we hosted the party which included children, disabled family members, and those with allergies. After struggling to find somewhere with an open kitchen at 12:30pm on a Wednesday night, was fortunate to come across Lolo. Despite it being late, half the restaurant was still full with folks eating dinners and having drinks at the bar. We were immediately greeted and got started with a mezcal mule and a 1451, both drinks were damn good! Dinner consisted of the carnitas, chicharron, tuna tacon, taco tropical, and the sopes calamary. Every dish was damn tasty although I could have probably ate numerous dishes of the taco tropical and the chicharron! On top of the amazing food and drinks, service was top notch and the decor looked like something someone who smoked too much while wandering around in a junk yard in Tijuana, threw together. Wow, what an experience to cherish, right here in Jax. the entire staff were welcoming and courteous, but the award goes to the chef, I believe his name was Mathew Ramos, he was phenomenal, it's like watching a show on TV, he was a genius, friendly, great interpersonal skills, and made it seems so easy, and of course the food was delicious. This was my first time visiting this restaurant and we were impressed with everything. Consider me an advertising for this restaurant and a repeat customer because the experience at the chef's table is something everyone should experience . Upscale dining at its finest. This is one of, if not the best restaurant in Jacksonville in my opinion. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff at Mathew's Restaurant made it a very special night by providing excellent service, ambiance, and top notch food. When compared to other upscale restaurants in Jacksonville, Mathew's really stands out by the exceptional service you receive from the moment you walk in the door to the end of the meal. The portions are a good size, get a few and your set for dinner. The staff is friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable. I've tried most of the upscale restaurants in Jacksonville and the surrounding areas. Matthews is at the top of the list for my favorite place to dine. Superb food with a great atmosphere and attentive but not intrusive staff makes for a pleasant experience. On our last visit, we had the tasting menu and it was excellent throughout. You can sit at the bar(on a zebra or another animal) while staring at the jungle atmosphere. Did I mention the soud of running waterfalls and animals? You and your date can become Tarzan and Jane. Then, buy a souvenoir in their shop to remember your experience! read more

That said, for a nearly $400 dinner, the level of service didn't quite match the price point. Our server was very kind and pleasant, but she appeared inexperienced. She spent about five minutes struggling to open our $130 bottle of wine and, while everyone has to learn somewhere, it felt uncomfortable for that learning experience to happen tableside during such an expensive meal. There were also several menu availability issues. The restaurant didn't have the 2016 wine we initially ordered, and we were told it had been unavailable for the past four weeks. They also didn't have the first bourbon my husband selected for his Old Fashioned. At that point, it seems reasonable to update or reprint the menu so guests aren't repeatedly ordering items that haven't been available for an extended period of time. The timing of service also felt off. We were expecting our bottle of wine to be delivered and uncorked before our meal arrived, especially after taking additional time to select a replacement bottle. Instead, our entrées were delivered within minutes while we were still waiting for the wine, which made the experience feel rushed and a bit awkward. At this price point, we expected better coordination between beverage and meal service. None of these issues ruined our evening, and we still enjoyed celebrating our anniversary there. The atmosphere remains a highlight, but for a nearly $400 dining experience, we expected a more polished and seamless level of service to match the overall ambiance and price point.
