crazy long wait for lunch, but i was in a party of 9. The Tex-Mex fare was good if not great. The menu is not very imaginative, but what they do, they do it well. I had the De marisco salad. Translated, fish on lettuce, with crappy dressing. The fish was described as red fish, shrimp and scallops. What I got was very sad looking fish, minuscule shrimp and almost no bay scallops to be scene. I substituted the terrible dressing for salsa and that made it edible. I go here with my boyfriend for their amazing brunch and unlimited mimosas! The food is fresh and the restock quickly. all o the food is hot and so are the plates. The servers can be a bit slow sometimes with refilling the drinks but not too bad. I always get my fix of breakfast or traditional Tex-Mex. So very disappointed. I went here for dinner tonight with my bf and another couple. I ordered the Enchiladas De Mariscos and I was SO disappointed. They MOST definitely were NOT worth $12.99. The enchiladas were stuffed (and I used "stuffed" very loosley) with shrimp, scallops and I believe some kind of fish. The pieces were so TINY and extremely overcooked. They were so dry and rock hard. The shrimp were really tiny (smaller than the size of a penny) and the scallop specks er I mean pieces barely resembled scallops. The tomatillo sauce that the enchiladas were smothered in was so overwhelming that I ended up scrapping most of it off. All in all the whole dish was a total let down. My bf ordered the brisket tacos at the waiters recommendation and he said after we left that he was not impressed with his dish at all. Bottom line - we will not be going back. read more

This place was close by our hotel - big bonus because I was sick of driving in Dallas traffic. My uncle (a local) recommended this place to us and it wasn't bad. It was pretty packed on a Friday night at about 7pm but the wait was only about 15 minutes. They accommodated our party of nine pretty easily. Since they were busy it was pretty loud but our waiter was nice and patient with us and the food was delivered pretty quickly for our party. Food was ok, not bad but nothing to rave about, definitely tex-mex. Atmosphere is friendly and I can see why its a popular place. read more

Surprised by all negative reviews 'cause we had great dining experience. Maybe people in Dallas don't appreciate good Mexican food. Being originally from San Antonio & last 40+ yrs in Austin we know good Tex-Mex & this is GOOD Mexican cuisine. My wife had a very good grilled salmon entrée & I had classic Tex-Mex. Each meal was excellent & plentiful. The service was excellent & prices very reasonable. Those complainers need to stay in Dallas-or come to Austin (but don't stay). I don't know why anyone would eat here. We walked in and walked out. It was 4:00 and we wanted to have an early dinner so you would think that it would be clean but this place was disgusting! The floors were gross, the tables were sticky, it smelled like vomit and the bathrooms were a mess! At 4:00? The cleanliness of a restaurant reflects what's happening in the kitchen. The restaurant looks cute on the outside, but the food really isn't great. Not a lot of flavor and nothing special. If that was it, I wouldn't even bother with this review. On the day that I dined there, I found a roach in my fish tacos. It was disgusting! Later after mentioning this to a few other friends, I had two other friends (unrelated) who told me they'd each seen a roach crawl on the wall during their time there. That's a total of 3 roaches in the small "sample size" I took. I've been meaning to call the restaurant and complain and also let the City of Dallas know, but hadn't had the chance. In the meantime, don't go there! Unless you're "adventurous" and are looking for a different kind of protein to crunch on! read more

Stopped here to have a few drinks on a Saturday night with my lady. Drinks were very expensive. Paid $17 for 2 small Margaritas. I probably wouldn't be complaining had the glasses been bigger. We first found this place when we pulled up to the former Lune de Noche for lunch and found the doors locked, the chairs stacked on the tables. In a word, it was closed for good. Winding back on Forest Lane, we discovered Mattitos. We had a pleasant experience at lunch and have been back several times for dinner. They have a great happy hour, but set your watch for the last call (and be sure to tell your waiter in advance) since if you're a minute late you're out of luck. The chips and hot sauce are good. We like the fajitas. The serving sizes are generous and reasonably priced. The servers are friendly, but extremely busy. I would put this on a par with an El Fenix for Tex-Mex. A reasonable value for the price. Nothing to write your mother about, however. read more

This is my new, favorite Mexican food restaurant. I've eaten here, as well as, the one on Oaklawn. The food is amazing. I love the avocado enchiladas. I've tried the mushroom enchiladas that were superb! This last visit I tried the Tres Cheese Chile Relleno. Great choice once again. My partner loves the steak fajitas. The strips of meat on the fajitas are very big and thick cut portions. The service has always been prompt and friendly. I highly recommend this place over Tupinamba, Meso Maya, and Manny's. read more

My wife was served fajitas with dead roaches cooked with the broccoli for lunch today. Unfortunately she didn't find them until she had eaten quite a bit. The Manager said "they sprayed today, and that caused the roaches to go everywhere!!! Some must have gotten into the food!!" WTF What type of infestation do they have?? She didn't plan on experiencing one of Food Network's Bizarre Foods! She was totally sick. Oh, yeah. The manager kindly said: "do not worry about your bill". What a peach! Service was slow to start on our last visit, but once we got attention it was pretty good from there. My chicken enchilada was much better then the beef taco. The enchilada was stuffed and the sauce was flavorful with lots of cheese on top. The taco shell wasn't quite the right consistency. My husband enjoyed his fajitas. The prices were good on the lunch specials with good portions and was happy to see them extend them to Saturday. You probably won't get anything too unique or outstanding here, but you will have a very solid and predictable meal. read more

Not a good experience. The food was slow to arrive to the table and it must have been because it sat on the line for awhile before coming out. The plate was scalding, the lettuce wilting, and the sauce looked burned. Aside from that, the flavor wasn't very good, and I don't think it would have been much better if it was fresh. When the waitress asked how everything was, we told her it wasn't very good. No manager came by to check on us. It was a disappointing visit. read more

7:20 Saturday night almost full... 7:30 Packed! and seating people on the patio (heated) Parking can be annoying, few spots up front and pot holes galore. I usually head straight for the back and park in the far left corner where I can stretch out. It was cold out and when it is I try to cut through the walled off and plastic warped patio, to get a few steps of warmth while walking around the building to the front door. The food is satisfactory. I almost always get a fajita (unless i'm just doing drinks and apps). I find this is a good place to come with a group for drinks. The bar area is small, more of a waiting area to get seated at busy times. Their patio is the best near by, for those warmer days of the year. I can't think of another restaurant 'close by' with a good patio (maybe on Preston and forest or 75 and park ln.) I have not had any issue with the service that I've revived on any of my not so few visits, but I'm rarely in a rush when I choose a sit down restaurant. Even when they are very busy, on say the fifth of may, I was surprised how timely our food was delivered and frequency of refilling waters. In my experience the food does take a hit on these prime days unfortunately. On regular days I've had to fight them off not to give me a refill on salsa and chips, I want to at least eat some of my meal. read more

Overall decent mexican food. Met a group of friends here the weekend before thanksgiving. We got there like right when it opened so had no issue with having to wait to be seated. We all got a variety of drinks and meals. Wasn't super impressed with their beer selection but my friends liked the mixed drinks and margaritas they got. The food was overall decent. I live in Austin so have loads of authentic Mexican food places here so am probably spoiled. Was concerning that the women's bathroom was dirty. I grew up in Dallas and went to Mattito's on a recent visit back home. It had to have been the blandest Tex-Mex I've ever had. The chips were flavorless, the beef in my tacos al carbon was so dry, and the "queso" served with them tasted like melted Velveeta. I'm not sure why this place has such a huge and devoted following, but if that's how you like your food, more power to you.
