Matto has a location every neighborhood I visit!! Since I downloaded the app I just add $10 at a time and have cheap eats and coffee. Most of the time I just take home my favorite scone! I had a supply in the freezer since it is hard to get out on my adventures in the winter. The Cinnamon Scone is my favorite. I toast it in the toaster oven for three minutes. Everything is $2.50 ($2 if you order on their app)! Nuff said. Even with nondairy milk, even the pastries, even mochas. It's definitely lower quality than a regular coffee shop, and they cut a lot of corners. The straws are oddly small and flimsy, and if you order a drink with less ice they'll compensate by not giving you as much coffee/milk. That said, if you're already throwing your coffee or pastry money at Dunkin, switch to Matto for better, cheaper lattes. read more

Matto, never ever change! I was visiting my friend in the area when we passed by the little sign out front that says "Everything $2.50!" After spending $4+ on coffees for the past week, the penny pincher in me was awakened! My friend only had good things about Matto so I gave it a try...and another...and another! I downloaded the app, which is how you get everything for $2.50 - in person, it's $2.75. It's truly amazing how many things you can get for $2.50 on the app - all different types of coffees, specialty drinks, yogurt, baked goods, pastries, etc. It's great for an inexpensive breakfast and to satisfy my innate need to buy coffee outside of the home. Sometimes, it was hit or miss, but for $2.50 I am not hurting. Their coffee cake is a standout menu item, the slices are huge and it's really tasty! Also, the strawberry rose iced latte was pretty damn good. The barista working was always really nice and the shop is clean, bright, and modern. For $2.50, Matto really delivers and it's refreshing to be able to enjoy good coffee and save some money. I will definitely be back next time I'm visiting! read more

This is definitely one of those "you get what you paid for" situations. I didn't have high hopes considering that they price everything at $2.50 to get you in the door. I ordered a mocha latte. Which consisted of 85% milk, 12% chocolate sauce, and 3% coffee. You definitely couldn't taste the coffee so I practically ended up getting a chocolate milk. I'm a fan of Matto Espresso. It's a quickly-expanding chain of coffee shops where EVERY ITEM is $2. All of them. And if you think it's low quality, think again! The coffee is great and the snacks are really tasty (the brownie is divine and the spinach bourekas is one of my favorite things). Really awesome place to have coffee, relax, work on your computer and quickly have a bite. Most of the stuff are super healthy and delicious. Nutritious as well. Pastry and sandwiches are made in house. An entire kitchen downstairs preparing things daily and throwing it out at the end of the day if its egg or stuff that aren't fresh after a day. I like that. I went inside today (June 6) at 10:40am and purchased a muffin. The cashier put my muffin in bag that was thin as paper and does not close, so I asked for napkins and a bag and she gave me the napkins but no bag. When I asked for a bag again she says no bag and ask if I want another paper thin package. I say yes can you put it the opposite way so the muffin can't fall out and she the puts the paper on the counter and goes to the next person. I suggest if you are not giving out larger bags at least wrap the food in packaging where you won't lose your food. They are paper thin and the muffin doesn't allow it to close. *When did you stop giving out bags?? I won't return. I really enjoy this coffee shop- the atmosphere is spacious, with different seating options. I like sitting at the bar-style stools by the window. I have ordered espresso machiattos several times and have been pleasantly surprised- they make it just right with just a little bit of foam on top. The staff is friendly so just order something simple and be excited that its $2. I recently tried the Avocado Sandwich and it is by far my favorite, though their options do vary depending what they have that day. This cafe always has throwback R&B music in the background which is also a nice touch. I am able to sit and read without finding it distracting most of the time- I recommend to bring headphones and just put them in if it gets too loud. I do visit other coffee shops in the area but find this one to be the most relaxing. Tip- the oatmeal was not that good, though they give you the option of water or steamed milk. Without excessive advertising, their food was simply labeled per one's potential dietary restrictions. The first time I came, I ordered the baklava. It was a large serving of phyllo dough, nuts, and honey. It wasn't the BEST baklava I've ever had, but it was a huge piece! The next time I was here, I ordered the gluten free almondy. I thought it was absolutely delicious, and I would definitely come here again just for this treat! My friend, who's gluten free, had the gluten free vegan doughnut. Although the only thing qualifying it as a doughnut once removing all doughnut ingredients was the shape, this dessert wasn't bad. I ordered a mocha and enjoyed that this beverage actually tasted like coffee. I would definitely recommend coming here to get your fancy coffee fix while still remaining on budget. This place is my new fave! I work at City College and finally decided to look for something better than Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. My almond milk latte was delicious and strong. I got the almond croissant and whole wheat pita with hummus, eggs, spinach, and tomato -- both great! And, let's be honest, how can you NOT fall in love with a place where ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING IS $2!!! (I mean the food was great, but the price definitely sweetened the deal!)
