We had visitors in for Christmas and wanted to go out for breakfast one morning before they left, so we tried Matt's for the first time. My friend had the tuna sandwich and said it was good. I had the biscuits and gravy which was real good as well as the hash browns. My wife had eggs with the sausage patties and the patties were flat out bad, real tough and lacking flavor. I tried them too and agreed, will never order those again. My friend's girl had eggs with bacon and the bacon was undercooked and not crisp. I would like to try other items on the menu and will be back but there are other breakfast places that I'd return to first. Service was excellent though and we sat outside because indoors was full. It's a little cold sitting out there as the sun is on the other side and it's a bit of a wind tunnel in between Matt's and the Beer Barn. read more

This new location has been quite popular and appears to have loyal customers from other locations. We stopped by when they opened (7:00am) and a few were already waiting. By 7:45am, it was full and there was a line. We loved the decor and super nice staff. They also have a nice outdoor seating area. We tried the burrito and my husband said this should the standard for any place that serves burritos as he loved it. I just had eggs and toast and they were both great. Saw this opened up and thought we'd try it. The door was open and it was freezing in the restaurant. Way overstaffed yet service was lacking. I wanted coffee to warm me up but no coffee creamer only oat or almond milk. The coffee mugs were dirty. No fountain soda just bottled "cane cola" so I'm assuming no refills. Food was meh, my hashbrown was huge compared to the small amount of chorizo and eggs I had. Grease all on my plate. $40 for basically 2 breakfast burritos and a soda. Comparing a breakfast joint to one of many four and five-star restaurants I have been to is rare, but Matt's is the exception. Let's start with the food quality. The pancakes were light and quite tasty. The freshly squeezed orange juice makes Over Easy's freshly squeezed orange juice taste like concentrate. Everything my wife and I ate was definitely on point. However, it was the interaction of the host with the customers I most paid attention to. Ernie took the time to interact with the customers and make them feel very welcome. Our server, Shannon, was highly attentive and made sure we were well-caffeinated. The last time I saw this customer interaction and the service level was Wildfish (since closed) or Catch 35 in Chicago. One excellent touch was making my disabled wife comfortable by giving us Table #2 (Now known as "our" table) Please don't get it twisted! I have been to Henhouse Cafe, Broken Yolk, and many other breakfast spots in the Valley. Matt's Big Breakfast has surpassed them. Food was good, I had the club sandwich but for the price given you get a bunch of potato chips from a bag seems on the high side to me. Although the sandwich was very good. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as I expected. I'd still choose other breakfast places over this one. The atmosphere is very loud and a server never stopped by again after taking our order. We had to flag people down just to get a sauce and a water refill. The food looks good and is filling but stick to the breakfast menu. Lunch is served with kettle chips that you could buy in a bag at the store (maybe they are?). Not anything special. The breakfast is good but nothing to get really excited over and rave about. Maybe the environment made it less than optimal. It was really uncomfortable having the lead/manager (I'm assuming) stopping next to our table to constantly tell other servers walking by to check on such and such table. I also like to enjoy my food and felt rushed. The Phoenix location was way better when we went there. It seemed more like a breakfast spot and not a rushed dining experience. If weather is nice, it may be better to ask to be seated outside so you can actually talk to people at your table. Most of the noise was coming from the staff, not other people dining. read more

My wife and I became instant regulars when we tried it for the first time. Not only the food and service are top notch, the owner Ernie is one of the kindest people we've ever met. I love how personable and relational she is. We feel like home whenever we walk in. Now, as far as the food goes, my favorite menu item as of now is their cheese omelette. I like to get it with ham, peppers & Wisconsin cheddar. Comes with house potatoes and toast. Can't go wrong with the price and the portion size is very generous. I have been going to Matt's for years and am so happy to have one close to home. Matt's Big Breakfast at Epicenter has very cleverly designed a space that highlights some features from the original Matt's as well as gives a nod to Gilbert History. The food and service are always spot on! I love the team approach to service and how everyone is so friendly! The breakfast items are as amazing as the original. Went here to eat for Sunday breakfast with my wife and our daughter. It was a short wait, although the waiting room isn't much of a waiting area, so may be uncomfortable if there's a long wait. We sat down and then our waitress (one of many it seemed) took our drink and breakfast order. We had the big papa burrito, the griddlecakes, and the waffle & bacon. For me, the Big Papa Burrito was the winner, but others were good seconds. I usually eat this type of burrito with just chorizo, eggs, and potatoes, so the added pinto beans, jalapeños, and enchilada sauce were really great additions! I tried some of the waffle and pancakes with the maple syrup and those were really good as well. We mainly got served by another waiter who took care of our refills and brought our orders out. Our 1st waitress comes back to bring the bill. This must be typical of smaller restaurants, but for some reason, I don't like the whole sticking your card and the waitress standing there while you enter your tip. Also, it defaults to 25% tip, but I ain't paying that just cause. I need to be very impressed for that, not just have it automatic. Overall, I'd say it was a good restaurant. My husband and I went today for the first time, after hearing what a great place it is in Phoenix. The food, served in very large portions, tasted great and had fresh herbs sprinkled on the potatoes. The bacon was top shelf quality and cooked just right! Our waitress was attentive and very helpful in guiding us to what we wanted. Other employees, as well as our waitress, checked to make sure our beverages were replenished and our needs were met. We'll eat outdoors when the weather is a tad warmer.
