This was one of the best breakfasts I have had in a very long time, I'd sell out a lot of people for another bite of that ham steak lol. Now that my feelings have been made clear, let's talk about it. I found this awesome place thanks to Yelp (no surprise there) and I'm so glad that I listened to the reviews. I stopped into MBB on a Sunday early AM before I was due to fly out of Arizona. I arrived and when I entered, I was surprised at the quick greeting and seating which seemed to happen within minutes. The restaurant was buzzing with chatting, hungry patrons, I was just happy to get my seat! Once seated, I was greeted within moments, a level of great service that I came to learn was the norm at MBB. I was a solo diner and loved that the waitress saw that I was watching a k-drama on my iPad while drinking my coffee, and proceeded to tell me her fave kdrama recommendations lol. And then another waitress came along, she joined the convo and added in her favorites lol. Ladies with taste! I kept my mask simple, opting for the Hog & Chick (sub off-the-bone Ham) + 1/2 shortcakes. Y'all. That was some gooood food. Simple, yet straight to the point with the flavor. The eggs were fluffy, the hash browns crispy on top but so moist beneath and the ham? *chefs kiss* The portion was a hefty one, juicy and a perfect addition. The shortcakes were unbelievable. I can't believe that was a half portion because, wow. Their were huge and fluffy, topped with a generous dollop of butter. When covered in the accompanying maple syrup, be prepared to take a dreamy desert drift for just a few until you snap out of it to enjoy the next bite. Had a great time at Matt's Big Breakfast in downtown Phoenix. Located right next to Churchill's, Matts BB offers great portions of delicious, filling breakfast dishes. The dining area is small but I was immediately seated with no reservation on a Friday morning. The server only came once and other staff brought my food and checked on me. I ordered the Hog and Chick (upgrade to ham extra $2 but WORTH IT!) came with 2 eggs, off the bone ham, toast and potatoes. Soooo tasty, and large portion. I ate every bite. We were here on a Sunday around 830ish AM. Parking was abundant at this time, however, it was metered parking. The ones closest to MBB took quarters and card. My friend who lives in DT PHX recommends to always have coins in case the meters don't take cards. As of 04/2024, it is $1.50 per hr to park with a 4 hr limit. I like their menu and their choices as it is varied and has a little bit of everything. FOOD: My fiancé and I enjoyed most of the food. The toast here is very thick and not what I'm used to with other breakfast or brunch style. I liked it though. Super buttery and crunchy. It tasted even better with the jam preserves. And it was blueberries when we were there; not sure if it rotates or is always blueberries. I ordered the bacon originally and wished I stuck with the bacon. The sausages has flavor, but just lacked juiciness. It was very dry and much smaller than anticipated. They told me they were small, but not this small. It's barely bigger than the width of the preserves (see picture). SERVICE: I'm not sure if the server we had was new, training, or her first day. But she took our order and it didn't come out correctly and was dropped off to another table. We also saw that other tables that came after us got their food. I'm not sure if that's the cook's fault or her fault (whether she put in other people's order first or someone else beat her to sending their orders before ours). I had ordered hash browns and not the house potatoes. Usually my fiancé and I like to get different things to try each others and leave reviews. But we both got the same potatoes. I didn't find it in me to mention it to her since she seemed very flustered and I don't like to send food back to the kitchen. We had also ordered the griddle cake and never received that. We decided to not ask for it and leave. We made sure it wasn't on the receipt they gave us. We can see this place being very busy especially during weekend brunch! They have indoor and outdoor seating. The space inside is very small and can fill up very easily during the rushes. But the vibe is great to meet up with friends or family. 11/2/22 I came here on a Wednesday morning after arriving to phoenix. Upon arrival we were greeted and seated momentarily. My boyfriend ordered the chop and chick, I ordered the hog and chick with ham, and his mom got the smashed avocado toast with a poached egg. We all ordered coffee and it was phenomenal, we've all had 3 cups each. The only slight complaints would be; the avocado toast seems to skimp out on the amount of avocado you get. The other two entrees were great wholesome American country style meals, but they weren't too flavorful. I personally, doused my food in hot sauce. But other than that, the food was good. I was glad to have seen this is one of the restaurants' Guy Fieri choose to visit and give his approval. I would come back here again and try other options. read more

This place never disappoints. The eggs are cooked exactly as ordered, the pancakes are light and fluffy and the waffles come out of the iron brown and crispy on the outside. Matt's Big Breakfast Their wait list was managed great & was shorter than expected. Highlights were their staff, who were friendly and attentive. Their coffee is delicious too I'm not sure what their butcher told them was thick cut. Their bacon is regular cut and a BLT should have more than 2 slices of bacon thick cut or regular cut after all it's a Bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich. I'm told that their pancakes are amazing and my husband enjoyed their daily scramble. To be fair I'm not going to discuss their prices because i don't go out to restaurants very often let's just say I was "sticker" shocked. I was finally able to go to a Matt's big breakfast and was more than disenchanted, disappointed and lighter in my pockets than expected. After an hour wait, which is normal, I was sat at the counter near a plastic bin of restaurant materials and without a special menu - like the customers that sat next to me. 7 min in I got a cup of coffee from a waitress. The guy in front of me doing Togo orders virtually ignored me and my empty cup. 15 minutes I asked another waitress if I could get a refill and she asked him if he could pour me a cup because the coffee was about 10 inches away from where he was. 30 minutes and still no breakfast so I asked another waitress if she could check. I got the pork chop which took a little longer to come out... for good reason. The waitstaff informed me it was a little longer and I was happy to wait. The chops were very peppery, which is to my liking. The unforgivable component here are the chairs... like literal nails on a chalk board every time someone was being seated/leaving. Had a chance to check out the hype of Matt's Big Breakfast on Saturday December 6th. The host was friendly and seemed to be having fun. We were seated after about a 20 minute wait. Our food took a really long time to come out. There were four of us. My Big Papa Burrito came out with the warning of a hot plate. It was not and the burrito itself looked like it sat for a while and was warm at best when I cut a piece off. I did not give the staff an opportunity to learn of their oversight since we waited so long after ordering. The burrito itself was a 3 out of 10 in taste and a 2 out of 10 for value at $15.99. What went well was the food. I called, knowing they're a popular place, I called ahead as I had guests driving through PHX to LA. I was told there was no list and we all had to be there before we could even get on a list. So, rule follower, I said OK. Was told 1/2 hour to 45 minutes wait. OK. What bothered me is the lack of apology for the 1 hour 25 minute wait. The reason for the lack of apology was that he wasn't going to apologize because he can't control how long people sit at their tables. Suggestion: add time if you run a restaurant and know people hang out longer. We would have gone somewhere else if they had been more honest. Visiting my son out of state I found this place by looking up the local diners drive ins and dives for the area. It was breakfast time so it was easy to make this the place to visit. Funny enough it was also right next to my hotel downtown, so the parking is abundant but also metered. Located on the corner, different but cool aesthetic design that my kid took a liking to. The menu seemed a bit minimal but I feel I could easily find 2 or 3 items worth trying for sure. I went ahead and got the Saturday special which was a 3 egg scramble with a chicken sausage, cheese, jalapeños and country potatoes. The food is different from California but that doesn't mean it's not just as good. I liked my dish especially with the big flour tortilla. The cola I ordered was a cane sugar from a bottle which wasn't horrible but not really what I'd prefer. There might be another option worth trying in the future for me. The food came out pretty quick, hot sauce, salt and pepper available on request. Very friendly, professional and attentive staff. Even workers that weren't my waitress were checking on us so they get a huge passing grade in my book. I also want to add it's reasonably priced for California but I'm not sure if the locals would agree. Stellar service and family owned business! First let me start by saying my fiancé and I stumbled upon this place after having a negative experience at Breakfast Bitch. While being there we searched for other places nearby serving brunch and we found this gem. Upon arriving we got seated right away and despite them being busy every server was hand-on helping out all the tables. For drinks my we opted for bottomless coffee and the fresh-squeezed honey lemonade. We are both big coffee lovers and the coffee was one of the best we've had in the area. The fresh-squeezed honey lemonade was so delicious and sweet. The honey definitely adds a nice touch. For food I ordered the big papa burrito and boy was this a hit. I'm really into spicy food so this definitely was flavorful and spicy. My fiancé ordered the griddle cakes with a side of eggs. These cakes were super tasty and quite frankly you don't need syrup to enjoy the flavors. Overall this place is a 10/10 and everything is sourced locally.
