    Coffee beans (Mar 2026)

Matt's Big Breakfast is a popular breakfast spot established in 2004 and currently has multiple locations in the Phoenix area, but this is the flagship location. This breakfast spot was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAidCOYC0_g ). In December 2025, Matt's Big Breakfast expanded and relocated to its current location which has a larger dining area + keeping the same menu. The new location is right next to the old location. [Parking]: I didn't see any available spots in the designated parking lot behind the restaurant, so I ended up parking few blocks away from the shop (plenty of metered parking spots near the intersection of E McKinley St & N 5th St). [Waiting time & Ambiance]: Our party waited about 5 minutes before getting bar seats. The restaurant has indoor tables, bar seating, and outdoor tables. [Menu]: According to the Food Network bio, specialty dishes at Matt's Big Breakfast include waffles, bacon, and The Chop & Chick (breakfast pork chops with eggs). Yelp's top highlighted items are The Hog and Chick, The Five Spot Platter, and Salami Scramble. *** Waffle with Bacon (made-from-scratch Belgian-style waffle, sweet cream butter and 100% Vermont maple syrup with two slices of thick-cut bacon - $12.49): A crispy waffle with two large slices of thick-cut hickory-smoked bacon. The bacon had a lot of pepper and tasted a bit dry. *** A solid 3.5-star on food, but bump down to 3-star due to not getting a refill on our bottomless coffee order.

I hadn't been to MBB in a few years, but when my girlfriend came to visit we decided to go--and it did not disappoint. Great atmosphere and consistent quality from start to finish. Thoughtful menu options that suited both of us perfectly. Friendly service that made the visit feel special.

This place is so fun, bright, and airy. It was within walking distance of my hotel. I would make sure I went after the early morning rush so there would be no wait. The first time I had the Cheese Omelet, it came with Wisconsin cheddar, aged provolone, or American, folded into three eggs, potatoes, toast, homemade preserves, roasted peppers, or sautéed onions. with home fries. The second time I got The Skinny: Four Egg whites, spinach, onion, and salad. Plus two blueberry pancakes, which were huge. This time, the wait was a little longer because there were more people here. As a lover of breakfast/brunch, I would definitely return. Plus, it is conveniently located right in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, which is very walkable. Plus, they have Rishi Tea, which is one of my faves!

Guy Fieri did NOT steer us wrong with this one We first saw this downtown Phoenix breakfast spot on YouTube when it was a small location -- and now it's expanded, remodeled, and absolutely beautiful. Tons of indoor and outdoor seating, and even on a Monday morning it was packed (but still easy enough to grab a table). The food? So good. That homemade lemonade honey drink is to die for. I had the Big Papa Burrito -- chorizo, potatoes, egg, and cheese wrapped in a fresh flour tortilla made right here in Phoenix -- and it absolutely lives up to the name. Huge and delicious. They carry Arizona-based Gunslinger hot sauce (love the local support), but their in-house hot sauce is my personal favorite. And the pancakes? Fluffy perfection. Delicious, generous portions, great vibe, and reasonably priced. If you're in downtown Phoenix, this is a must for breakfast.

Gave this place a try after seeing it on triple D food was good. Can't go wrong with breakfast. Everything seemed fresh. It was busy service was friendly. Ordered the waffle and some eggs with a side of toast it was good but I thought the waffle could be better seemed a little over cooked. Bacon was good. It was an overall good experience.

Matt's has been consistent since they set foot in the valley. Multiple locations, efficient breakfast. My steak and eggs were tasty this morning and the bar had us well taken care of. The host seems to be a little bit aggressive for a pleasant Sunday morning but overall a good meal. Not too much inspiration but a solid start to the day.

Top of the Morning Mattttttttt.... We're here for your Big Breakfast! Location: Located in downtown Phoenix near Arizona State University, this this place is hard to miss. It has indoor and outdoor seating for beautiful weather days. Parking: Im sure that I paid attention to parking. We walked to this location. Ambiance: A cute breakfast spot. Fresh flowers on some of the tables are a nice touch! It is also giving farm to table fancy farm vibe. Im not mad at it. Its kinda cute. Service: We got service with a smile. We were able to walk up and get a table. No issues/ no reservations. Our table host also made some great recommendations. The Food: We got there Big Papaa Burrito, Cheese Omelet, and the special of the day... Corned Beef Hash. They all tasted amazing. The Burrito was my favorite! It was super spicy just the way I like it. In short, we will be back. Im going to have dreams about this Burrito! Lol

We came here around 7:30 am on a Sat morning and it was surprisingly empty. The ambiance is bright, happy, colorful and brings a smile the moment you walk in. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We were a group of 4 and ordered the 2 of the breakfast veggie scramble special - egg scramble, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, spinach, with sourdough, hash browns and side of egg, the big Pappa Burrito, an avocado toast and orange juice. The portions are big. Veggie options are very limited and they don't do substitutions (gluten free or vegan). The scramble was good. The hash browns were the best part - super delicious, crunchy yet firm. The big Pappa Burrito was ok. I wished it had more punch in flavor. The avocado toast was good. Orange juice was freshly squeezed. Pricing wise, it is on par for the area but I think the prices are a little high for a brunch/breakfast place. Overall, food is good, but not mind-blowing.

Breakfast Special. 2 eggs sourdough toast and hashed browns. Coffee and orange juice

Prompt teamwork style service. Ordered the breakfast special. Eggs cooked perfectly. Bacon was a bit salty. Hashed browns came out cold and were promptly replaced with hot ones. The toast was thick with fresh homemade preserves. Good coffee and fresh OJ. Solid meal for a fair price.

Matt's Big Breakfast is always busy. It's great that they have moved to a larger location. I ordered the hog & the chick. Basic breakfast food. Just disappointed that I specifically asked for the bacon to be extra crispy and it didn't come out that way and then our waitress disappeared until the very end when we were ready to pay so I couldn't even have it corrected.

    Eggs Benedict Thursday special

Very cute place, nice indoor/outdoor feel, team waiting so your drinks never stay empty, ordered the Thursday special which was Eggs Benedict, it was very tasty. Parking can be a little tricky and worst case scenario you can do paid parking.

There's always a line here on the weekend. We got there a little before 10 and only had to wait about 20 minutes, but by the time we left there were a lot of people waiting. I've tried Matt's a couple of times but this was the first in their new building. Everything I've tried has been pretty good. I got the grains greens and beans bowl this time and it felt light and nutritious while also being filling and flavorful. I really liked the addition of the poached eggs and I would definitely get it again.

    The Skinny
    Kim H.

The service at Matt's was great. They constantly walk around to check on you and refill your coffee. The portions are huge. My only complaint was the lemons were kind of mushy for my Iced tea other than that the food was delicious and I'm glad they have healthy options.

On this visit, we had just finished lunch at RA Sushi and only planned on stopping in for drinks. However, after seeing the menu, we couldn't resist ordering the wings--and I'm so glad we did. The wings were absolutely delicious. They arrived perfectly crispy, exactly how I prefer them, with a flavorful seasoning that made every bite incredibly satisfying. The accompanying dressing was equally impressive--rich, creamy, and the perfect complement to the wings. Even though we weren't particularly hungry, we found ourselves finishing every last bite. One of my favorite things about The Kettle Black is their outstanding craft beer program. This time, I ordered a beer flight and loved the opportunity to sample several different brews. Each beer offered its own unique character and flavor profile, making the experience both enjoyable and memorable. It's clear that a great deal of thought goes into curating their selection, and it's one of the reasons I continue coming back. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between a welcoming neighborhood pub and a destination for food and beer enthusiasts. The service is always friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, creating an experience that feels both comfortable and elevated. Whether you're stopping in for a full meal, appetizers and drinks, or simply to explore their craft beer offerings, The Kettle Black consistently delivers. It's a place I find myself returning to again and again, and every visit reminds me why it remains one of my favorite pubs in the Valley.

That said, my experiences with service have been inconsistent. My husband and I came in for breakfast one morning and, while the server seemed to be doing his best, he appeared overwhelmed and possibly understaffed. It took quite a while before we were greeted, and service throughout the meal felt slow as he juggled multiple tables. On a separate visit, I ordered takeout. Unfortunately, the hostess who greeted me wasn't very welcoming, and there was another noticeable wait before my food was ready. The pricing is a bit on the higher side, but I will say the burger itself was excellent--great flavor, a nice char, and a generous portion of fries. Overall, this place has a lot of potential given its atmosphere and food quality, but improving customer service--especially front-of-house friendliness and efficiency--would make a big difference. The bartenders are amazing however we are sad our normal peeps have left. Tonight Sean KILLED it with us and so glad he was still there since first meeting him on Halloween. Honestly the reason for 4 stars is the fact the drunken wifey is gone and the 3% credit card fee. We have been coming here for a little over 5 years and never had to pay that. Wild change and slightly bs. You already charge a lot for food and drinks (increases over the years are noticeable with management changes) but when you always have a rather large bill usually $700-sometimes over $1000 depending on the kind of evening we're having it is going to be very noticeable. A change like that needs to be more obvious, minus a little print at the bottom of the menu. No one even noticed (since we really didn't need the menu to order) nor did our server. It truly makes me want to give you a three star but I can't discredit the hard working staff and people in the kitchen, as it is clearly the change of new management and the "rebuild" from the beginning of the year. It speaks volumes to a group that has been dedicated to the Americano since March of 2020 and now makes us wonder if it's time to move onto a different restaurant.
