There is an option to pay a little more to get double fish portion for a total of 4 which was great to share between 2 people. I came here with family during an event inside the Seattle Center Armory on a Saturday around 11:30am. If not considering the event itself, then this place is just the storefront with their kitchen in the back, and their interior is essentially all the seating inside the Armory itself. They're conveniently sandwiched between The Little Chicken Teriyaki and Big Mike's Sandwich Co., not too far from the doors leading to the restrooms. They serve seafood baskets, fish and chips, poutines and samplers on their menu, and you place your order on a kiosk at the front. Staff were ready to answer questions, and had a lot of good energy when serving orders to me and their other customers. I split with two others in my group the sampler, which consists of two pieces each of fried cod, oyster and shrimp, all on top of a bed of French fries. The tempura batter for all three came apart a little too easily, though it was even more so with the fried cod, as it was hard to use a spoon and fork to scoop up the easily broken pieces. Shrimp and oyster were both really good and not too salty on their own. French fries were also really filling, and were very fresh - they were on the verge of being too salty. We visited Seattle Center Armory for lunch before going to next door's Seattle Kraken game, and with plenty of food options inside, I found Matt's Fish Basket. It offers classic fish and chip combinations with other seafood items. Since it's one of the food stalls inside the armory, there's plenty of seating inside. In fact, since we visited before the Kraken game, we had no idea there was pre-game event here where they have activities and games for kids and families. It was pretty packed at the armory, so good to know in case you visit before a Seattle Kraken game. I ordered the clam chowder bowl and side of fish. You can use the touchscreen for ordering and paying, and it doesn't take long to get your food. They have malt vinegar and ketchup on the side, but you'll need to order tartar for fish. The food was solid. I liked the fish better than the chowder as the chowder had more potatoes than clams. It does come with a side of bread, which was nice for dipping. The fish was flaky and flavorful, especially with sprinkles of lemon juice and malt vinegar. I recommend if you're craving fried fish and are at the Seattle Center. read more

Was wandering around Seattle center last weekend for a jewelry show and popped in here for a late lunch. I honestly did not know the armory was opened on the weekends haha. My brain assumed it's only opened during the summer so it was a pleasant surprise coming in here and seeing how busy it was. There was a torrent game at climate pledge so lots of people in jerseys. My friend and I ordered fish and chips and a chowder to share. It was so warm and comforting! I made the mistake of not wearing a jacket so it was really nice haha. Service was quick. Well it had my name on it so I had what the hell?! Jokes aside, I was craving some seafood after being in Seattle for a day. After hanging out at MoPOP for a few hours we popped over to Seattle Center Armory. It's a food hall with at least a dozen places to eat. As soon as I saw a seafood option I knew I had found my happy place. Menu is simple with fry baskets, sandwiches, and some specialty items. It looks like they've expanded their menu comparatively to older photos. Honestly fish and chips sounded great, that's what I went with! Beer-battered Alaskan Cod, hand cut fries, and tartar sauce. When you use high quality ingredients you don't need much else. A squeeze of lemon and a little hot sauce and I was in heaven. The fish was so hot I had to wait nearly 10 minutes for it to cool down. I devoured this basket. It's a gigantic portion of food. Two generous sized pieces of flaky cod in a crispy beer batter exterior. Absolutely delicious. I wish the sauce containers were bigger for dipping. Fries were simple, yet seasoned and tender. Absolutely zero complaints. I knocked it all back with a Fremont beer. Couldn't ask for more. Food was extremely delicious for a food court. Ambience can be a little loud but it's a food court service was fast.

Surprisingly good for a food court situation, the fish was crisp, the fries were ok (I'd prefer them thinner), but overall a really good option close to climate pledge. Visiting the Sakura Festival in Seattle, this place totally blew us away from our expectations! Not in a conspicuous place, nestled to the left of the staircase going up to the Armory, there were plenty of tables although there was a large crowd dining then. Not cheap eating, we thought at first, but when the food was ready to be picked up... wow! When do shrimp become prawns? These were some giant shrimp! Well breaded but just cooked on the inside. Delicious! The mussels were an appetizer and just delightful with a choice of sauces. The crab over fries.... I'll eat this every day. Just yum! Thank god we made it in time! Visiting Seattles Children's museum and came across Matt's fish basket. And want to SINNNNG the praises of Jorge the gentleman who not only help me order enough/tell me I was ordering too much food but also being AMAZINGLY honest and helping me order "hooked-up" stuff off the menu so that I wasn't paying full price. He could have totally not said anything and I wouldn't have known any better but Jorge literally got me so much bang for my buck. We got the sampler, seafood poutine, crispy mussels and clam chowder. My kids ate EVERYTHING. The food was SOOOO DARN GOOD. My 6 year old and 3 year old finished EVERYTHING on their plate without argument. But it wasn't just that the food was good, I really deeply appreciate Jorge's customer service. Best customer service I've had in a VERY long time. Not only did he help me charge my phone (didn't bring charger with me) but he gave my kids soft serve... I cannot express how thankful I am and how happy he made my kids. This man deserves a raise. TL:DR - Lots of food for the value. Fries take up most of the actual container. Shrimp and sauce were quite good. But this is just too much of a good thing. You couldn't eat it as a sandwich with how big the shrimp were, and just all the oil and fried batter was too much and made me feel sick. All in all, if you're used to fried foods, you'll love this spot, otherwise it won't sit well. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I think you'll either absolutely love this place or never want to come back. I'm pretty much in the never want to come back camp, but I can easily see other people really liking it. To just break it down bluntly, you get a HUGE amount of food for the price. Pretty much the entire takeout box was filled with fries, and my shrimp po'boy was on top. So you'd barely be able to close the flaps if you took the entire sandwich out. So again, this may be a reason to come for some. The fries themselves were delicious, crispy and crunchy, perfectly seasoned. The shrimp on this po-boy were HUGE. I mean, each one was literally the height of the bun it was served on. You couldn't even close the bun, I had to eat one shrimp by itself, lay them all sideways, and they were still spilling out of the bun. The bun was perfectly toasted on the inside, nice and soft in the middle. The sauce for the shrimp was delicious as well. The shrimp itself was about 1/3 batter and 2/3 shrimp meat, which is pretty good. All that sounds great right? So what's the problem? Well the problem for me is that it was just too much oil. Between the heavy sauce, large amounts of fried batter, and then the ungodly amount of fries on top of that. I barely finished any of it, I just felt sick from all the fried carbs. I started taking the batter off most of the shrimp, scraped off most of the sauce, and only eating about a third of my fries and felt super slow and heavy the rest of the day. So if you love greasy food and it doesn't bother you, you may love this place. If fried fast food is a once in a while treat, this may leave you feeling nothing but regret. read more

When I ordered the seafood basket I had no idea how big it is. There are two pieces of everything so far $20+ is not bad. You get 2 fried fish pieces, 2 fried prawns (they are huge) and 2 oysters. They also pack a lot of fries which is not bad but it is just fries. I was glad the lady taking the order reminded me that the portion is large so I didn't try the clam chowder. This is just decent gesture to warn customers so I'm grateful. We popped into the Armory for lunch on a trip to the Pacific Science Center and my wife got the fish and chips here. It's nice that there are so many places to eat here so your group can get different things yet still eat together! Decent portion size but we felt it was so-so- the fish definitely was oily/greasy, I was not a huge fan. Crab fries without having to go to a Mariner's game! This wa a surprisingly generous amount of really flavorful and delicious and buttery crab on top of a whole bunch of fries that were both crispy and substantial. Every bite had a lot of flavor and great mouth feel and neither the fries or the crab dominated but instead blended together. The downside might be my own fault - I ordered and ate the whole darn thing by myself so it took a bit which meant the bottom of the box was pretty soggy by the end. I think a larger and more narrow box or (heaven forbid) sharing with a friend might work better next time. This food court generally doesn't have options as good as it should given that it's in the main tourist area of Seattle so it's great to find a good one. read more

There was only one problem, that is not the fault of the restaurants that I had. It's kind of a bitch to get to this place. This area is located next to the Armory area of Seattle Center. So that means you have to park and walk a little. Basically, unless you have been to the center a few times, you may have trouble finding. Once you do find it, Matt makes the trip totally worth it. I had the cod fish sandwich, which consists of two VERY large filets that were so big that I couldn't fit them both between the buns. It is served po' boy style with lettuce and tomatoes. The sandwich sits on top of the fries that I tried with vinegar for the first time, and they were very tasty. I am going to have to throw shade at the beer selection. PB fuckin R and Ranier? Like most food vendors in the Armory building at Seattle Center, everything is overpriced. For a cup of seafood chowder, it costs about $12 for a tiny cup which comes with a tiny slice of bread. Granted, I absolutely love this seafood chowder, but not at this price. I've also had the Fish & Chips here, which are about $18. The fish is crunchy, but you only get three small pieces and the rest of the box is filled with 90% soft fries (which isn't bad if you like fries, but it's a lot!). I've also had the seafood poutine, which is packed to the brim and flavorful, but really oily. For some strange reason, this place also serves Dole Whip if you're interested. read more

Not at all impressed. Maybe I have had to much great chowder in my life. My husband and I stumbled into the city center probably about an hour before they closed and we were famished. We selected Matt's because we really wanted some good chowder. First off, the menu is misleading and states you can select an "add on" with any entree. We tried to do so but were told our "selections" don't count as entrees - it would be a good idea to note what is considered an entree on the menu. The "garlic bread" that was served with our soup was in no way real or local garlic bread. I suspect it came frozen from a grocery store and microwaved. Two small soups, two beers and two frozen pieces of garlic bread later, $55.00. Crazy! And they also tossed in a side of attitude the second we walked up to the counter from the female employee for free. I definitely would not go back and, to boot, we had AMAZING chowder for less at Pikes Place two days later. But more on that in a later review. read more

I was at the Seattle Armory for the Irish Festival on St. Patrick's Day. This was a good opportunity to try Matt's Fish Basket for some fish and chips. Matt's is one of the food stalls in the armory selling fried seafood in a counter service environment. The facility has little parking, but there are several garages and street parking nearby. The counter has a traditional nautical theme common to fish and chip shops with a limited menu focused on deep fried seafood baskets. On my trip, I chose the cod with chips. The food was served a little slow, but it was served very hot from the fryer. It came with a large serving of good slightly seasoned fries/chips which went well with the tartar sauce and ketchup. The fish had some issues. The fish was a bit tough and chewy which made it difficult to eat, although the batter was delicious. I was able to salvage it with some malt vinegar. Seating was generous with space shared between the other restaurants. It can easily get noisy with the hard surfaces. There are also shared restrooms near the shop, but enough of a distance to be a little inconvenient. Matt's is a standard mall food court type fish and chips shop. They are not the best, but they serve the masses visiting the Seattle Armory and Space Needle. read more

I ate and the pikes market place a day later and I'm telling you right now this place was much better tasting. We found this place by accident because it was near our hotel and only a short walk. I haven't had fish and chips this delicious and tender in my entire life. I'm not exaggerating! I really loved it and my 8 year old son was loving it so much he was recommending everybody that walked by to stop and try the place because there's so many other restaurants in this location to chose from. The funny thing is he told this one guy that he recommended it and it happened to be the owner, Mike! The clam chowder was also probably the best I've ever had. I would've previously said that Splash Café in Pismo is my favorite and they certainly are good. However, this one was so loaded with seafood from mussels to I think crab and of course clams. I was seriously very impressed. If I could have this shipped to SoCal where I live I certainly would. Mike please franchise this thing down to Southern California and let me know if you need investors! The Ranch and tartar sauce was fresh and obviously homemade. Also darn good!
