Talk about underrated! We visited Matt's Fish Basket last week and were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. We were in the area for Go Fest, and it was so busy. To be quite honest we were looking for a place that had the shortest line because it was beyond busy. So we tried them out. 2 people were in line before us but we got our order within 15-20 minutes. All the other lines had 10+ Customer service was great. When we got our food it was piping hot, just the way I like it. We ordered the lobster fries and the cod and shrimp basket. My fiancée and I loved it! This place is so easy to over look but worth the try! I'm sure it won't disappoint. read more

Strong fish and chips shop at the Seattle Center Armory! Fried crispy mussels: have eaten plenty of mussels in my time but never deep fried. The light coating thankfully is not too much and does not cover up that mussel taste! Spritz of lemon for the win! Fisherman's chowder: for some reason I was thinking this was just clam chowder but it actually had all manner of additional seafood like mussels, cod, bits of crab. So good and served with chunk of garlic bread Sampler platter: comes with fried true cod, shrimp and fried oysters over hand cut fries. The fried fish was quite good with a beer batter that is nice and crispy. The fish also seemed to be fresh and good quality! Shrimp and fried oysters were good but will probably just get the fried fish next time. Still have other interesting things to try like seafood poutine and hush puppies which sound enticing! read more

There were many things I wanted to try, but we just left the Ice Cream Festival, so I just wanted a snack. I got the Crispy Mussels because it sounded interesting; don't think I've had it anywhere before. And it was smaller pieces than I expected, but pretty good. Wow, TOTAL SCAM BY MATT who should sleep with the fish's for unethical charge practice. Came into center house prior to Kraken game and stopped by for some nourishment. Food was fine but the surprise came once I got my AMEX BILL. This establishment charged me $6 fee on top of my meal for the use of the SQUARE CHARGE. Needless to say I'll never come back. Had you warned me or posted a sign I'd have a choice if that was acceptable but NOOOOOOO they hide it from the public. Good luck on your fish business! read more

My husband and I stopped here for a quick bite and we were pleasantly surprised. My husband's shrimp and chips, and my oysters were a cut above the fare one would find at a food court joint. I tried the shrimp, and they batter was delicious. Loved its slight tang of beer and that is was crisp without being too thick. The shrimp themselves were perfect. I would order these for myself. I really liked my oysters, and that they had a different coating from the shrimp. It was more delicate, which complimented the oysters perfectly. This place is truly a hidden gem. The seafood here is surprisingly fresh and the fish and chips in particular is perhaps top 3 in the Seattle area. They're located in the food court of the Armory of all places. But don't be surprised that one of the best fish and chips in Seattle is found at a food court. Hole in the wall restaurants, food stalls, kiosks, food carts, and food courts sometimes have the best seafood as they can be extensions of fish market companies. The fried cod pieces were huge and perfectly breaded and fried. I'm surprised this entire basket was only 22 bucks. A bit unbelievable actually. This is the only place I'll eat whenever I find myself in the armory for an event or to just charge up. To finish off my meal on my latest visit, a random lady approached me and gave me this box of cookies. Now my mama taught me to never accept candy from strangers, but this lady was very pretty and the cookies were delicious. I ate them all in one sitting. I tried the mussels and the Bodhizafa for my drink since it was an interesting sounding IPA. The mussels were quite tasty. The garlic and crab oil was light and added a nice flavor. The mussels had a good amount of crisp and tasted fresh. Service was quick and was happy with the recommendation to try the IPA. Not sure what happened in a matter of a week. But their Seafood Poutine went from a nice big box full of goodies to a very small petite portion but still the same cost. Not sure if has anything to do with the new employees or not but to have to pay 20 dollars for a 1/10 of what it used to be. I will not be back. Customer service was horrible read more

The food here is quite good, especially when you're looking for a quick and filling meal after exploring the Seattle Center. The true cod and chips was exactly what I was hoping, and the seafood poutine made my Canadian husband's mouth water. I love fried seafood, so I knew I had to stop here based on the reviews. The food here was just ok. I got the sampler, which includes fries with fried cod, fried shrimp, and fried oysters. The fries tasted pretty good, so no complaints there. The oysters were ok, but we only got three pieces. The shrimp was overcooked. The cod was ok, but I prefer my fried fish to come in long strips, but they gave fillets here, which are impractical to eat. The amount of food also didn't justify the price. The sauces we got also were thick, making it difficult to scoop. The line was also long and it took us a while to get our food, granted I went during lunch on a weekend. read more

Happy to contribute to the five-star reviews on Matt's. I live in the neighborhood and generally consider the Armory restaurants to be a bit expensive and a bit boring. But the reviews here intrigued me, so I've been meaning to come to Matt's for awhile. Of course I needed to get a variety of items to give it a solid try, so I ordered a sampler for lunch: fried oysters, shrimp, cod, and fries. The fried oysters and shrimp were massive, juicy, and easily the best versions of them I've had. Sauces were a ++ as well. The cod was flaky and juicy. French fries filled my container to overflowing and I ate just a few, but they were also unusually good. Those fries will see a trip through the air fryer tomorrow. Everything in the Armory has kind of crazy prices, and it won't be often that I spend this much on a lunch during the week. But I'm glad I did today and I definitely recommend giving Matt's a try. We got Hush puppies. Good. I would have liked some more maple butter with them, but they were the better of the 2 items we got. They were crispy and fresh and soft. Came here after visiting Chihuly, a little hungry but wanted something lighter. After viewing the other places in the Armory we chose Matt's Fish Basket. Kitschy front, should be ok, something quick. Boy were we surprised! We ordered the True Cod, came with fries (fish and chips), upgraded to the Crab Fries. We were shocked to find out the fries were the same size whether we ordered the regular order or stayed with the upgrade. The first thing that grabbed our attention was the cod-perfectly fried, juicy, tender, seasoned well. This was a shared meal, wish it wasn't cuz I had to share the fish it was so good, hot out of the fryer, is each order fried to order? Not fish stick sized, but a big ol' piece of fish that was meaty and totally enjoyable. The fries were tremendous too, crispy and not sitting there til the next customer, heap of fresh crab, very tasty with the Ol'bae aioli, a hint of spice, not too tart like tartar, very satisfying! Cashier asked if we were sharing we said yes so he offered to have the cook cut the roll for us. jumbo shrimp that is battered and cut in half because it's too fat but shoved to fit into the soft garlic bread roll with some lettuce and tomato delicious sauce. This place was a nice quick spot to get some yummy fish and chips. My son loves fish and chips so we came across this place and he wanted to try it. The time we ordered and got our food was about 10 minutes or so. That wasn't bad and we were also able to find a seat. This is inside the Food court by the Space needle. This is not your average quick bite seafood stop...its better much better! We needed something quick and had options for littles. We walked up and the staff was friendly and engaging.
