We visited Matt's while on vacation at Bethany Beach with the whole family. It is a casual seafood restaurant that can accommodate kids and larger parties. Although we came on a weekday, there was still a 45 minute wait and a long line to park in their small lot. You can order drinks and menu items at their self seated bar while you wait. Overall we had a great experience. Service was attentive and the food is better than most in the area. For appetizers we ordered the crab balls and their famous hot parker house rolls and they were both delicious. The entrees were good but nothing out of this world. We ordered the traditional lobster roll, crab cakes, soft shell crab, and the fish camp stew. Next time I would try the warm lobster roll instead of the traditional because I wasn't a big fan of the mayo coating on the lobster, but the roll was full of large pieces. The stew was good, but I wish there was less fish and more of the other seafood (shrimp, clam, etc.) I was pleasantly surprised by how good the mac and cheese was for a kids menu item, which makes me want to try the crab mac and cheese next time. For dessert I highly recommend the key lime pie. It was the perfect amount of tart and sweet with a crunchy crust and whipped cream. Overall the apps, drinks, and dessert were what made this a good meal! read more

This is a MUST stop! Want seafood? This is the place! It's not much to look on the outside and is tight and cozy on the inside. The staff is pleasant and fast! Our group tried several items and split them. The steamed shrimp were large, HOT, and lightly seasoned. Delish! The crab balls were large and meaty. Breading wasn't too thick; just right! The fried shrimp were large, lightly battered and HOT! So good! The fried clams were also fresh and not heavy on the batter. 5 stars all the way! read more

I had driven by Matt's Fish Camp multiple times and always thought it must be the kind of place where local fishermen ate on their breaks. But when we decided to give this place a try and walked in through their door, I realized my assumptions were completely wrong! It's a really nice-looking new eatery with plenty of seating of all kinds-- booth, table, high cocktail tables, and counter. The clam chowder was rich, creamy, and full of plump pink clams, and our mahi sandwiches were delicious! We'll be back when we're in the area. read more

Having visited Matt's once a couple years ago we ending up back again twice in the same weekend. Well worth the drive to North Bethany we opted to go at off times knowing that there is usually a wait at dinner. At 3:30 for a late lunch we stopped in in search of a soft shell crab sandwich. We were lucky that they had them because the specials menu changes each day based on availability. It was large and perfectly fried. MFC has completely perfected their deep frying. The fried shrimp are the best I've had outside of New England. Not greasy and a great flavor. Pay a little extra for garlic parsley fries because they are tasty too. Our second day's onion rings were crispy and delicious as well with a nice little mustard cream but I think their tartar sauce is addicting. The rings are large and two of us had trouble finishing the plateful, better for sharing. I made the mistake that I think I made last time of getting a lobster roll. The meat is great but needed more butter, sadly the whole experience ends up being a little dry. We had the blackened mahi two days in a row, once as an entree with green beans (toothsome and well seasoned) and once as a sandwich. I preferred the entree because the soft texture of the potato roll was not not a contrast enough for the tender fish. Our second day in additon to fish sandwich and onion rings, I wanted to try a bunch of appetizers instead of a meal. You can't go wrong with any of the ones we chose. The clam stuffies had a refreshing lemony tang, you get three to an order. The smoked bluefish dip came with an abundance of saltines and had great flavor. the bowl of clam chowder was chock full of vegetables and bacon in addition to the clams, a great smoky flavor that I couldn't get enough of. I also had an order of potato salad that was enough for two to share and then some with all the food we had. All in all I would definitely go back to Matt's next trip to OC. I usually don't post bad reviews but it was slow and we were one of only two tables in the building so I don't understand why our waitress disappeared after we ordered and after she dropped the food off. I wanted to give both plates back. My girlfriend ordered the blackened shrimp Alfredo which was a milky mess... no heavy cream was used in this. And my salmon medium rare, I must have repeated the temperature 3-4 times because I can't eat well done salmon came out burnt to death . And to make things even worse was the flies that have taken over the restaurant. Even with the deflection at the doors it's an infestation in there. No management present.... complete opposite experience from what I'm used to from this restaurant group... I'll stick to blue coast and catch 54 best halibut ever. Sorry matts fish camp read more

Stopped in for lunch after a 3 hr trip to Delaware. Some of the freshest fish I've had recently. I had the crab louie which was delicious and my man had the fish and chips which was also quite good. Steamed clams which I don't normally eat, but these were excellent. Great service, cute decor. We'll stop in again on our next trip! read more

Surprisingly secret place off the highway serving excellent fish. We had fish and chips, warm lobster roll, chowder - all great. Its one of the places locals really cherish - and you feel lucky to have found. We stopped for a late lunch. I had the salmon entree and my husband got the lobster Reuben. Outstanding. Since it was off season on a Monday, the entrees were also 1/2 price. Recommend this place. Will return soon with friends! read more

When the COVID-19 appeared, restaurants begged patrons to continue to buy from them to keep them in business. We love Matt's and so were ready to do so. Ordered a few weeks ago around 7. But when we went to order a few days ago, curb service is available only before 5:30 or after 8:45. Apparently they now reward those who are willing to risk coming in for table service, but do not care anymore about those of us who patronized them before they were open. While we totally realize we are depriving ourselves....and although we have loved the food.....there are plenty more places to buy from, and we will no longer patronize this restaurant which has now showed their (greedy and insensitive) true colors. read more

We've been coming to Bethany Beach every summer for 20 years, so when we discover a great restaurant we want to share the news! This place was a great family restaurant with excellent food and service. It's busy and bustling so arrive before 5 for dinner to avoid a wait. I've posted pics of our food choices, most of which we read on Yelp before coming and we were not disappointed: Matt's crab balls, hot bacon crab dip with kettle chips, iceberg wedge salad, 1 1/2 pound lobster dinner, kids fried shrimp. All were fantastic. Dessert was worth staying for- especially the chocolate peanut butter pie and warm chocolate cake. When in Bethany Beach, this place is a must! Plus you can watch the sunset over the bay while you enjoy your dinner! read more

Went there for a late lunch on a weekday. To start, I ordered a Lemonade. It was just nasty. I told the waitress and ordered a water. After getting it I realized it was the water that tasted bad. Don't get water or anything made with water. I had a bottled water with me so just drank that. I ordered a lobster Reuben. The pumpernickel was perfectly butter toasted and the sandwich was surprisingly good. The homemade chips on the side were a bit heavy...not my favorite. Wife and I ordered carry out during covid crisis. We had two lobster rolls and a side of brussel sprouts. We were disappointed that the lobster didn't have much flavor. I suspect it was frozen, which is really disappointing for a $23 sandwich. The picked vegetables that came with the lobster roll were very good and the kettle chips were good. Outside seating. Yay We had Matts's Fish Camp Stew. Very good. Scallops cooked perfectly actually the whole thing was great. Only complaint please toast bread. Our bread was ice cold. Husband had short ribs. The short rib was mouth-watering and the carrots cooked perfectly. Then comes the not-so-good. the cauliflower puree was ice cold. And I mean ice cold. This was annoying because our waitress told us the short rib would take longer to cook. Which by the way we appreciated, but the execution well not so great. We did not mind the wait at all. That all said, we do not blame the waitress. Our waitress was great. Honestly some of the best service we have had in a long time. My thoughts are please give them a try if you have not already. Their food is good. Better than good. We will go back because the service was on point, the food was very good and it's a great place even with my little complaints. Very mixed, some of the best and the worst of the weekend. The fried belly clams were rocking'. The fried seafood combo was nice but the fried oysters contained no oysters. The seared Ahi was off the hook! A 10! But the corn and lobster Special was pitiful and embarrassment to the chef that made it a "Special". This "Special" was roasted corn in a bowl with 3 pieces of lobster claw meat. Severed as a small plate this would not even make a decent side dish, $14. We were so excited to try one of the areas newest additions. We especially went so my husband could have his lobster roll that he's been craving. We were unimpressed with the casual decor however we thought "don't judge a book by its cover" When we went to sit down in the booth a divider between them fell over and hit the gentleman behind us. We both ordered the clam chowder , which was very salty and I like salt! We also ordered the lobster deviled eggs which were amazing and I highly recommend trying them! My husband ordered the lobster roll and I ordered fried oysters. We were both disappointed in our meals. The lobster roll was fairly small and average at best and the oysters were tasteless. Both had fries that came with them and they were covered in coarse salt! We also both had the sangria special which had no fruit in it at all and it tasted pretty much like orange punch. After purchasing a home in the Rehoboth DE. area I was hesitant to visit Matt's Fish Camp because I identified the name with the fish camp style restaurants of North and South Carolina. It only too one visit to Matt's make me a regular. Matt's along with most of the SODEL concepts restaurants are innovative and provide a variety of dishes in addition to perfectly prepared fish, seafood, beef, pork and pasta dishes. Food is typically good. My husband liked the fried chicken. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp and grits as I like the other sodel concepts (catch 54 and blue coast) much better. I wish the restaurant would close the take out window because it is very confusing for customers with pick up. I called once getting there (as stated on my receipt) and nobody picked up so I went to the outdoor takeout window. I stood in the rain with my baby for a few minutes before realizing nobody was going to help me although I could see quite a few people right in front of the window (who did their best to pretend they didn't see me there). Simply, classic & traditional. A great family spot for seafood with an elevated twist. Despite the no frills and basic interior, there were some interesting ways they presented food and menu items. Our favorites were the: 1) Yellow & Pink Watermelon with spicy salt & lime: Refreshing and creative. The salt was mixed pink himalayan, pepper, and cayenne. 2) Lobster gumbo: Real lobster shell (kept whole, not chopped up). Great peppery & spicy flavor, not too overpowering. Ask for rice on the side to truly enjoy the gumbo sauce. They even elegantly had microgreens sprinked on top. 3) Salad: Surprisingly fresh & abundant (enough for 2 to share) with traditional lettuce and veggies (romaine, garden vegetables). read more

I love Matt's Fish Camp. Whenever I'm in Delaware, I try to hit it up. They have the best bloody Mary's ever, and I'm not really a Bloody Mary type. They use a cucumber vodka which if I'm not mistaken, they make themselves, and it's just so good. As someone who is allergic to most shellfish, they menu has a lot of non shellfish options and the staff made sure that my food was handled very carefully as the rest of my party had oysters, clams, etc. The vibe is always chill there no matter what time of year you go and it's just a great place to have a great meal with great company. read more

Hidden in Coastal Highway Northbound is this quaint seafood restaurant. Excellent service, excellent food, no crowds likely secondary to is location. Pro: You cant beat the happy hour. Unfortunately, neither of the 2 "Q's" were included in this meal. You might call this sandwich a "fried rod" sandwich because that's literally what you get - a 6" long 2" wide fried fish rod. It was served hot, but could have been crispier. You could also call it a large fish stick, but either way the awkward shape made for an unsatisfying sandwich that was average in both size and quality. I have always looked forward to getting food from Matt's especially since we stay close. I used to love their lobster roll. Last night I got it to go and it was horrible. It was the warm one which was not. The lobster was dry, roll dry and their was no butter on it as one would expect getting this kind of lobster roll. Off the "touristy strip" between Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach- I totally took a chance on a drive-by and was happily surprised. Basic decor, very laid back, shorts and flip flop seafood nook. Wait staff is super friendly and quick. Had a pumpkin brew (it is Sept) and the baked lump crab cakes. They were 99% crab- almost no bead crumb filler. Fries and slaw accompanied however I decided to try their brussel sprouts that were cooked to perfection with raisins, onions and crispy bacon. A bit unorthodox along with crab cakes but TOTALLY worth it. Didn't have enough room in my third leg to muscle down the gorgeous Key Lime pie they make daily with an insane graham cracker crust. I dined here with family recently during our vacation and was very disappointed. The service was lack luster at best. The water brought to the table was room temperature and not pleasant tasting at all. The food was either extremely bland or swimming in so much garlic it made your stomach turn. I was surprised when our food was slowly brought to the table very staggered and the last person served was my son who was only having buttered noodles which were cold when they made it to the table. The server didn't seemed to concerned with her tip since we didn't seem to be a priority for her. Though we loved Bethany Beach and will return to the area I am afraid to say we will not return to this overpriced establishment that thinks it is a restaurant. read more

We got take out tonight, I ordered a $16 fish sandwich, when my wife brought it home I took a look at it and there wasn't even the equivalent of 1 1/2 fish stick sized pieces of fish on the sandwich, and the roll was burned. We clearly got the wrong food, based on other reviews. My fried oyster sandwich, advertised as "flash fried," was pretty bad. Oysters were overfried and shriveled. The fried oysters at Henlopen City Oyster House beat this hands down. The lobster roll was OK and the fried fish platter got better reviews from my dining partners. A review I just read about the hygiene practices behind the scenes was alarming. Would avoid this place. read more
