So the scenery was nice & service was great, & we maybe came in like 2 hours before they closed but as we ordered majority of the food was out (Plate Food wise) so we just adjusted our order to what they had left & got teriyaki chicken, shrimp & a couple musubi. & long story short chicken was 2/10 / shrimp was a 7/10 / Musubi was a 1/10 / Portion 4/10 . Not sure if I caught them on a bad day but there are much better Hawaiian restaurants out there but out of respect I won't list them. Biggest let down was the musubi due it being hard to mess up but man the soggy rice just killed it for me. On a side note if you from Hawaii I wouldn't come here with high expectations. Being from Maui growing up on local food it's always intriguing to try a new spot. Every chance I get to try Hawaiian food I'm there. The place itself was cool, cute little spot with a food truck parked right outside. This place has outdoor seating as well as a couple spots inside. I loved how we were greeted with aloha the staff were super friendly and very accommodating. We had ordered spam fried rice but received white rice instead without hesitation our order was fixed but however I did noticed the rice portion went from plenty to hardly there. Which is fine just a bit of a shock, I should have stuck with the white rice lol. The garlic shrimp was good but I wouldn't necessarily call it garlic shrimp, just not what I'm used to but still tasty. The mac salad was pretty good. I hate being disappointed and even more I hate leaving a negative review but Im always honest. I'd say overall it was ok, but I probably won't return, bummer. Food was good. A bit pricey, but good. They had a special chicken 3 meat deal for $25 that was supposed to come with sausage, but they had run out after we ordered and paid. In hindsight, I think I would have been just as satisfied with the regular teriyaki chicken and 3 meat plate for $8 less. Otherwise, food was not bad. Half the tables had their chairs were up on top where you couldn't sit, yet several parties came in and some had to sit at a counter window to eat. Honestly this place was delicious. In big cities with so many options it's easy to visit a good spot once and just kinda forget to come back because you're checking out other places. But this place - specifically the spam fried rice - kept coming back to me and my stepdaughter's mind throughout the year. The food was delicious! The staff was friendly without checking in too often to the point it's annoying. And while the food didn't come out super fast - it was clearly made to order so the fact it was fresh and was worth a small wait. The inside was a little plain (but clean!) but it's because the outside is the real spot that captures the Maui feel. Super cute tropical yet authentic vibe. They didn't try too hard to make it "island-ish". I appreciate that they focus more on the food than anything and keeping an authentic Hawaiian feel to everything. AMAZING spot downtown. We went on a Sunday and had no problem getting a parking spot. We were greeted by Maui, the owner and a very sweet woman who helped to take our order and provide exceptional service throughout our meal. The pig was not available during our visit as it was still in the smoker. However, I ended up getting the HUGE garlic shrimp which were unbelievably delicious. Maui offered myself and the other diners a sample of poke with a little bit of history about it. I had never tried poke before and I loved it. We ended our meal with a handshake from Maui. We love this place. The staff are incredibly friendly, the food is quality, and they have great portions. We split a 3 meat spam rice bowl and got extra sides. Only paid $35 to feed two and have a desert and masubi to take home. The food has a homey quality that I haven't been able to find at other Hawaiian restaurants. Let me start by saying, this is a new business and obviously there are going to be learning curves. Being a Hawaiian/Polynesian from Hawai`i, my expectation will likely be different from others. The colors of the building and the designs definitely caught my eye. In the future, once established, it would be nice for the truck to match it. My cousin Maui (bestest dis errrf) was on the grill cooking up the hot foods and gave me a shrimp sample which was delicious ! While there was a little bit of a line when I got there, I didn't wait too long. I decided that I'd get something to fill me for my shift and a snack if needed later in the night. Not gonna lie, the fact that I had such a simple order and had to repeat it multiple times annoyed me. BUT that really is my previous customer service background and recognizing when someone isn't actively listening. I also overheard a conversation between said cashier and who I'm assuming is the owner or manager in which they stated only 1 of 2 of customer's order came out and the second bowl was needed. And while, I totally agree it's not that big of a deal and customer can wait, manager did have a point in that the complete order should come out together. That being said, I personally think that's a conversation outside of earshot of ANY customer. For all they knew, that could've been a relative of mine. I don't know. Just my mana`o. He also seemed confused or at least I was confused when he was telling a previous customer about how the variety poke had ahi, tuna and salmon. I was like so....double ahi? Or is there different kinds? Cause if that's the case, gotta specify. The cashier seemed nice overall and eager to help though. I was a little taken aback when he handed me the musubi. It's the skinniest I've ever seen. I feel like if you're charging $3.50 for one, make it worth it. In my opinion the spam slice should be thicker, add more rice and add some sauce (doesn't have to be teriyaki) to it so that the rice can soak some of it up. The ahi itself was good. Again, because there's so many variations of poke and how it can be made, it would've been beneficial to know ahead of time what kind was being prepared for the day. But my biggest request, PLEASE fill that bowl with rice! For $16.50, I shouldn't have to portion my rice out so thinly. The rice was perfect though and whatever the little spicy stuff in the corner is, add more...it was ono! As of right now it's a 3/5 for me but I'm hopeful to give it another go in the future.
