When I got there they told me they don't do inspection on mon or Fri the guys there but he doesn't do inspections I showed him my confirmation. He didnt care! I had my brake pads replaced and oil change at Mavis since the price was cheaper than a dealer quoted me. When I picked my truck up I saw ABS and check engine light on so I brought the truck back only to be told that I need to take it to a Toyota dealer. Later I found out that they damaged a speed sensor when they replaced brakes. Also, I had a ton of oil and my driveway so I looked under the truck and see leaking oil. I took it back again and they told me that I had a defective ring in oil filter the one they replaced 2 days before. They did apologize and replaced it free of charge so that's why I am giving them 3 star. Next time I will pay a little more and will take my business to a dealer so lesson learned. read more

So I had my car serviced oil change etc. Then we drove to Texas and discovered there was a problem. We had to replace our oil pan and get a new oil change and when we got home we went to Mavis about the problem. They worked quickly to make it right and made the best of a bad situation. This was at the Madison location I had a small puncture in my tire that was leaking and I went in to go get it patched up which should've been about a 50-70 dollar repair, me and my older brother went in this morning the second that they opened (8am) and we were told that my vehicle was 4th in line, we called at 1pm and they had told me that It was 2nd in line, at 3pm we were called and told that my tire (which I drove there on and made it fine on because it was only a puncture) needed to be replaced entirely which would be 192 to replace, I personally believe that this was because I am younger and I don't know much about cars, there was no reason that it should've been that expensive or take 8 hours to patch a hole in the tire, im personally not going to be going back to this tire shop for a long time read more

I despise giving 1 star reviews, but this was truly an awful experience here. I scheduled a same day appointment for a simple front brake job over the phone before coming in. Upon arrival, I was told that my appointment time could not be honored, and that I would have to come back on a different day because they were too busy. After going back and forth, the store manager agreed to squeeze me in. After 2 hours of waiting, they got my car into a bay. Upon their "inspection", they determined that I needed new brake pads, rotors and calipers, and quoted me $1,100. Ha, right.....I knew the pads were bad, and the rotors maybe, but the calipers, no way, as they were relatively new. They manager "demonstrated" how the calipers were permanently frozen by attempting to force them in with a crowbar. I informed him that they were less than 2 years old, and he shrugged his shoulders, and lowered his price down to $700. Wow. Since the calipers were under a lifetime warranty, I argued with the manager, and he reluctantly reassembled my vehicle. The next day, I went to the Mavis Tire location on Transit Rd., and miraculously, my calipers were fine...not frozen at all. The brake job there cost me $200, out the door. A huge drop from the $1,100 quoted to me 24 hours previously. I talked to corporate about the situation, and they made excuses as to why their mechanic diagnosed an obviously good part, bad, and got nowhere, except for a $25 credit. Gee, thanks... Mechanics are hard enough to trust. The Sheridan Drive location tried to scam me into buying parts, and labor that I didn't need. If I were you, I would find another shop to take your car to. This location can't be trusted. To top this all off, the Transit Rd, location got my brakes squared away, but I also ordered an oil change. Shame on me....when I got my car back, the oil appeared dirty still, and was a quart down, but that's another review/story, altogether.... Try Mavis, at your own risk.... read more

Came here on time after making an appointment online for a NYS inspection. But there was still another car ahead of me somehow. 40 minutes of waiting before they actually pulled my car in. Luckily service was pretty quick just another half hour of wait for the actual service. Got out passed without any trouble. Staffs were nice but the appointment system was kinda pointless. Classic bait and switch sales technique! I called ahead to get a price on alignment and wheel balancing and was quoted $90 for both. Dropped off the car, had the work done and was presented with an invoice for $143. Explained to the service adviser that I was quoted $90 and he said I must have been speaking with a call center because there is no way the shop would have quoted that much. Spoke to the manager and they refused to honor the quoted price even though I am a repeat customer who has purchased three sets of four tires in past years. They discounted the bill to $113 and I needed my car back so I paid. I'm not raising my blood pressure over $23 but if I was 20 years old that money wouldn't be so easy to piss away. Luckily, I have audio of the quote phone convo because I installed a digital call logger last year for calls to Verizon and such. Will be following up on this with their management and social media. Be warned and be smarter than I was about doing business with them! Get everything in writing in advance. I'll honestly never go here again for any reason whatsoever. I brought mine and my girlfriends cars here for nys inspection - seems simple enough. After waiting for 3 hours, her car comes out and passed. Three days later she hears a funny sound coming from the front end and discovers a piece of the body dragging under her car. She called and the manager blamed the salt on the roads for rusting the bolts on this piece - mind you her car is only 3 years old. My car FAILED! I drive a 2 year old car and these assholes had the audacity to fail it because they thought I needed new wiper BLADES. Are you kidding me? Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere with a competent staff. After reading similar bad reviews - it's obvious that this place is the definition of a joke. read more

Went here after receiving a great quote on the phone, when I got there Paul basically called me a liar and told me there was no way they would offer that etc, he was extremely rude and argumentative , thankfully Corey stepped in and handled the situation and completely saved the sale and my business. Poor customer service. I have made 2 appointments to have my breaks checked. They canceled the first one due to lack of mechanics. Scheduled another for the first break appointment on 6/1. Upon arrival I was told AGAIN that they did not have a mechanic. The employee was rather rude about it. This time I was told to go to another Mavis and maybe they could help me. Officially a Buffalo resident and in addition to being a resident, I had to search for a trustworthy mechanic. We've all had a bad interaction with a sleazy mechanic who's best interest was to increase their income at your unexpected expense; fixing things that were never required. My first visit at Mavis I meet with the Asst. Mgr Tom in which he took care of my requests. He's the exceptional genuine mechanic that you would want to have take care of your mechanical needs. He even took the additional time after my inspection to educate me on how I can prolong the life of my vehicle. I sure will be back due to the trust I've gained. read more

My first experience at Mavis was in November 2017 for a Wheel Alignment, I was given a great price for the alignment and the customer service was excellent. The staff was friendly and I was in and out in no time. Today was my second experience, I purchased 2 new tires. The guy gave me a great deal on my tires and he said I would be there for 1 hour and that was exactly how long I was there. I will be going back to get 2 more tires. This place is a rip off. I brought my car in February 28 around 1:45 PM for a simple New York State inspection. They told me my car failed because the back brakes were worn. They told me I'd have to spend $229 for pads and rotors. They also told me that the brakes were metal to metal and they were grinding bad which they were not. The next day I want to somewhere else and they told me that they're absolutely nothing wrong with my brakes and my inspection passed. Be careful they will try to get you. read more

I went in yesterday at 6PM desperate for a solution to my tire that continued to lose air. Although they were closed, the manger, Cory, had me stay in the car (it was cold outside) while he over filled my tire to compensate for leaking air for free and told me to come back tomorrow and they would fix it. I brought it in today 45 minutes before close because I had to work. They fixed it, the manager asked how I was doing, I was done in less than a half an hour and it cost me only twenty bucks. Our vehicle was brought into Mavis for two specific services we requested: an oil change and a NYS inspection. However, Mavis called us and said there were other problems with the vehicle and asked if we wanted to proceed. We told them not to proceed and that we would drive there and inspect the vehicle ourselves. When we arrived, the manager had instructed his employees to completely remove all four tires and both front brakes and calipers before we arrived. None of this labor was authorized. When we inspected the vehicle, we did not observe the issues that the manager claimed was wrong with the vehicle. When we asked him to assemble the tires and brakes and calipers back to their original order, he informed us that he could not. He claimed that the calipers were seized. This is a complete lie. The vehicle was driving fine and we only brought it in for an oil change and inspection. This vehicle had been inspected by another station for the NYS inspection just 45 days earlier and passed all criteria except needing new wiper blades. We purchased new wiper blades and brought the vehicle to Mavis to finish getting the inspection since the wiper blades were corrected. Ironically, the manager tried to tell us that the vehicle needed new wiper blades. When we challenged him and told him we just installed new blades the day before, he backed down and moved on to finding other issues and asking his technicians about those issues. In at least two cases, the technician said that the issue he was bringing to our attention was not accurate. One example was the emergency brake. The manager told us that the emergency brake needed to be replaced but his own technician told him that the emergency brake was in perfect working order and that he was not correct. When the manager told us that the tires and brakes and calipers were defective, we told him we didn't authorize his shop to remove them and completely disassemble them. The manager refused to put the tires and brakes and calipers back on and give us the vehicle back unless we proceeded with the work on the tires and brakes and calipers. Please see the documentation showing that the tires were just installed new 4 months prior in November 2018. Additionally, once the manager learned that the front brakes were still under warranty from Mavis and therefore any additional service work would be complimentary, that was when he started adding on additional problems. It was clear he did not want to give us a free brake job once he learned it was under warranty. So he then claimed we needed new calipers. This course of action allowed him to charge us more and make up the loss of the warranty work. This manager also disparaged our driving habits without having any knowledge or proof of such. He accused us of driving the vehicle poorly and creating the issues he claimed we needed to correct. He insulted us every chance he had. In fact, at one point, we even tried to get a copy of our invoice and he refused to let us see it and in fact, put it in the trash. When we attempted to get the invoice from the trash receptacle he became very rude and intimidating and questioned us on whether we trusted him or not. Additionally, we took the alignment record to another shop and showed it to them and they said that the alignment was not done properly. While they corrected a couple of measurements, they caused other measurements to be out of tolerance. This is the condition our vehicle was returned to us; unsafe and completely out of alignment. All in all, Mavis did not have authorization to remove the tires, brakes and calipers. Once they did, they refused to put them back on unless we authorized the work as they insisted. They refused to allow us to have our vehicle back with the original parts and the only way we were going to leave there with our vehicle was if Mavis carried out the work. We did not authorize the actions Mavis took that ultimately required our vehicle to require the reassembly work as they damaged the vehicle when they removed the tires, brakes, and calipers without permission. Here is a detailed list of what the manager said which indicates that the service delivered and requested was not as expected. - First he said the brakes were overheating because of the calipers being seized in the closed position. - Later he said the brakes wouldn't engage, then got into truck, tried to show us they were not working (but truck was not turned on) - Said the rotors were being returned (same for the brake pads) for various different and conflicting reasons: o Because of warranty o To be rebuilt o To be scrapped - Did not want us looking at original list of work to be performed; wouldn't allow us to get invoices from the trash. - Claimed that the caliper seizure was a big problem that happens frequently. He had already had several customers in that day with the same problem. - Gave us a lecture on our driving habits; claimed we were doing off-roading or that vehicle was in a serious read more

I visited the Sheridan Dr. in Amherst, NY location this afternoon. They took me right away and I was on my way in an hour. My tire needed a plug. It was reasonable ($37) and convenient to where I work, so I got it done during my lunch hour. The only issue I have - and that's why two stars are knocked off - is the air quality and smell in the waiting room. I don't know if there is a car emissions problem where it gets stuck in the waiting room or if that really is heavy smoke lingering that I smell, but it made me feel sick. It was so thick and heavy and permeated everything I breathed and smelled. I am not a Karen or anything - it was bad! There was no air circulating. I had to walk outside and stand there in the cold because I felt so sick. I did complete a customer service feedback survey and I don't have any issues with the staff. Actually, I worry about what they are inhaling from the place. I hope that gets fixed! If not for that, and how dingy and beat up the waiting room is, I'd recommend the place. read more

I've been to Mavis in other parts of the state and had been quite happy. If you show up at Mavis on Sheridan in Amherst and there's a manager named Ric working, go somewhere else, quickly. Engage Ric for his assistance, and you'll likely find the most combative and adversarial customer service ever known to man. In the 2.5 hours I spent in the shop, I got to watch several innocent customers leave red-faced and screaming, wise enough to take their business elsewhere. Other than customer service that is hilarious for some, and wildly maddening for others, the service was less than shoddy. On a single tire replacement, these gents returned my car to me with dangerously low tire pressure in the replaced tire, a spare that had been thrown back in my car without having been placed back into its proper spot, and with the new tire missing a valve cover. I worry about the less savvy being abused and left in a potentially dangerous spot by this shop. read more

This is the main place I take my cars for work. For whatever reason, this place just seems to have a staff who are consistently honest with me - a trait I really value in a mechanic. Their prices are very fair, the quality is spot on, and they are usually pretty quick, too. Compared to the other brand name service centers around here, this is the best one I've found by far. I wish I could remember the manager's name because he has worked with me on some stuff and even taken me to the car while it was raised up to actually show me what was wrong. Updated to 2 star because of resolution at bottom from HO. I live in Canada and these tires are very difficult to find here. This location is about a 4 hour drive from my house not including the border wait. On Friday November 22nd, the customer service centre arranged for delivery of the tires from the Lacawanna location (20 mins away) to the Amherst location on Sheridan. I called the Manager of the store, Jason, on the Friday to make sure he received the order...and he did. We confirmed that I would drive down on Tuesday, November 26 at 11:00 for the install and that the tires would arrive on Monday the 26th, the day before. All good so far. I called on Monday the 26th (the day the tire were to arrive) and confirmed with Jason that we were all set for the install the next day and that the tires had arrived. He confirmed this. I left Southern Ontario at 3:00 AM and drove Amherst, arriving at the store when it opened at 8:00. Though my appointment wasn't until 11:00 I had no problem waiting and if they could fit me in great. It turns out that the store is first come first serve...not by appointment. I was the 3rd person in line when the store opened out of about 8 people. Jason, the Manager, was not working and Duane was there. He took my keys and confirmed that everything was set and invited me to wait. It was a packed a house with many customers. 2 left and were in no rush. 2 were picking up cars from the night before and left. At about 10:00, I saw them drive in my truck. Even though I was 3rd in line, it took 2 hours for them to start. 3 people who came in AFTER me, got their cars serviced ahead of me. I though I had am 11:00 appointment, so no big deal to me. I waited patiently. I watched them put my truck on the lift and remove the tires and I went back to reading the news. 1.45 hours later, I saw my truck back out in the corner of my eye and I saw the tech bring the keys to the front desk. I walked up the desk to ask to pay as it had been a long 3.45 hours. Duane, proceeding to tell me that they had bad news and had to put my ORIGINAL tires back on the truck because they didnt have the tire I had ordered. AFTER 3.45 HOURS in the store and 4 HOURS TO GET THERE and 2 PHONE CALLS CONFIRMING WITH THE MANAGER. Needless to say, I was no longer happy and patient. Duane acted like it was no big deal and blame everyone else...Jason...the customer call centre...the Lackawanna store for not checking their stock. I promptly reminded him that he accepted my truck this morning, confirmed everything was fine, actually removed my tires before HE checked to see if they had actually arrived. He did absolutely nothing about it. He wouldn't call the Manager, Jason...he wouldnt even call head office to try and find out if he could get tires the next day. They offered me nothing in compensation and seemed to not even care that I have wasted $150 in gas, 8 hours driving (return) and 4 hours in store waiting for them to install the tires that they did not have. I can truly say, that I did not hear of a single customer in the store that morning that was pleased with the service that they received. One of the 3 other people, waited 1.5 hours and went up and got his keys and left. 1 of the 2 that drop the car off, came back after 3 hours to find that they hadn't started on his car and took his keys. The guy that was 2nd in line took his key back after 1.5 hours and left. It was the absolute WORST customer service I have ever seen, even without the driving down from Canada and all that waste. I called head office and they were pretty helpful in trying to find me an alternative. Denis was extremely dedicated to trying to find a resolution, but he cannot control inventory. No a single person in the company denied their mistake. Denis, told me that his head office computer showed 4 tires in the store. Their inventory system is a mess and they cannot be trusted when they say that they confirmed by looking. UPDATE: The next day, I received a call from Cooper Tires. I let them know of the story and that they should be aware of the companies in their supply chain the customer experience related to their tires. Even though I agree that it is not the fault of Cooper, they should be concerned about this incident being associated with their performance review on our RV blog. We have to mention the customer experience in addition to 'on-road' tire performance. Cooper did direct me to an online store that could deliver to Canada. A few hours after my conversation with the Cooper representative, I received a call from Denis at Mavis Tire. He said that he had been consumed by the problem and that he had been working on a solution all day. He presented me with a solution which addressed all of my concerns and cost impacts and restored my faith in the ability of a store chain to right by a well-meaning customer. A few months ago I took my car into Mavis at 3280 Sheridan Dr, Amherst, NY 14226 to get a leaky tire fixed. The next day the tire was not just leaky but 100% flat. I used fix a flat instead of bringing back to Mavis and that fixed tire. A few weeks later my wife took her car in for an oil change. The next day we had huge puddle of oil in the driveway. When I took back to Mavis they said they did not tighten drain plug all the way then said the rain would clean my driveway. Then I bring my car in for an inspection on 1/18/20 and on the way home with my son in the car my alarm goes off that the hood is not latched. How can a technician give a car back and not latch the hood? I did not use my car on Sunday then on Monday morning my front left tire was 100% flat and I had to get a ride to work. Coincidence maybe but Mavis is 3 for 3 in the last 3 visits for very poor quality of service. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

I ordered tires on Mavis.com for three vehicles needing service, an Audi and two Toyota Avalons. I inadvertently sent the tires to the wrong Mavis (there are two locations on Sherdian Dr.) Ric from the correct location called with the error and had the tires transferred to his shop. I wanted to have the work done there because I had met with Ric prior to ordering and he seemed very competent and attentive. All the work was done in good fashion and I couldn't be happier. I worked with both managers, Ric and Glen, and both were very professional. They worked with me on price and that was great too. I don't know what the other reviewers experienced but my experience was above par. I will return here in the future for service. read more

Service was Phenomenal. I recently posted about a terrible experience with Pep Boys, but with Mavis Discount Tire my experience was on the opposite end of the spectrum. The Rep Joela was attentive and the tire service took no more than 30 min. Pep Boys advised me my tire was unrepairable, but Joela assured me it was. I was only charged $15 to repair this.
