Cold beer at least. Don't expect any sort of service and order from the bar if at all possible. Will close an hour or so early if they are slow so don't assume they will be open after 10. Unfortunately there aren't really many bar options in this part of FOCO, although there is a brewery with a big patio about a 2 minute walk away that closes at 9 or 10. read more

I don't like leaving bad reviews, but... I ordered a $10 order of chicken strips to go. was expecting them to be a good size and covered in sauce, as that is the appeal of fried chicken. I am a small person and don't eat that much food, but even for me the 3 tiny chicken strips were not satisfying. They came out dry on a bed of French fries, which I didn't expect. Did not want the extra carbs today, but had to eat them to be full. If i wanted fries, I would have ordered fries.... all I wanted was the chicken strips! read more

Our Family went to Maya Cove's Mothers Day Brunch and it was great! Steve fixes the best smoked chicken that I know of. The fruit was perfectly ripe. I think the food is okay for what it is - bar food and things like nachos, or fish tacos etc. The hurricanes (house drinks) are yummy and strong. BUT - the service is HORRIBLE and the staff clearly doesn't give a crap about their customers. We were there in a group of 7 friends. When our food finally came - one didn't get his dinner. When asked, the waitress said he hadn't ordered. He HAD - we all ordered at the same time, we were right there. Instead of apologizing and making it right, she argued with him and he never got any food AND he never got the 2nd drink he asked for. And at the start of the evening we had asked ahead of times for separate checks for our party. I know how much of a drag that can be at the end of the night so we made sure to ask at the beginning. At the end - you guessed it - one check. I said, "But we asked for separate checks," and the waitress said, "Well whattya gonna do?" and shrugged. For a bar in such a beer-friendly town, their selection was pretty lame, probably owing to their Caribbean motif. The food was average bar fare, which I smothered in hot sauce to get any real flavor out of it. The service was acceptable though the tables are packed very tightly together making it difficult to navigate. It seemed OK for a bar hangout but not for a place to eat. Not sure where they get their cuts of meat but it must be one stop before dog food. The pork in the Hawaiian pork sandwich was pretty much fat and grissle disquised with a ton of brown sugar. Several years back I ordered a steak that ended up being mostly fat and they refused to take it back or take it off the bill. I recently ate with my preteen daughter who ordered an apetizer (the poppers are actually decent) and a salad. Her soft drink was an unbelievable $2.60!! For a Sierra Mist? I had a sandwich and two "happy hour drinks. The bill with tax and tip came to almost $40...unbelievable for the quality of food. I'm usually pretty adamant about keeping my business local and supporting local guys but this is one place that I will avoid, even if someone else is footing the bill. read more

Long story short: overpriced food and terrible service. If you've worked in the industry you know the difference between busy and lazy/rude. I wanted to like this place. I've been twice, to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke. Seemed like they had a good selection. During lunch, the food was cold and under-seasoned. The server was slow and rude--ignoring multiple requests from our table (we were 1 of 3 occupied) to stand around and flirt with the bartender. She didnt even come back for our check, we left cash and walked out. When I came to pick up dinner, the bartender was SO RUDE. Get home, they had left the crab cakes out of my soggy seafood platter ($15!?) Moral of the story: spend your hard-earned money somewhere where they will act like they want it and give you food that's worth it. Went to the cove because they had a groupon deal. Went in and was pretty thrown off by the decor. Really beachy and Hawaiian status but not too bad. Has big tv's. Anyways. We enjoyed the seafood platter and the fatty melt. Both were really good. And their fries were pretty darn good. I think the shrimp needed a little more flavor but there wasnt anything to complain about. Oh, dont get the ranch on the side!!! This place is very hit or miss with both quality of food and service. I have eaten in the restaurant twice. While the food and drinks were, overall, decent (I recommend the fish and chips), we did have a very rude waitress on one occasion. We also ordered burgers for delivery one evening and they arrived practically raw and inedible, with a side of undercooked fries. Gross. read more

I have been in Fort Collins for 41 years. Maya Cove is one of my favorite restaurants ever. The service is excellent. Food is diverse and delicious. The owner is hospitable and generous. STAY AWAY. Food is very unexciting, bland and in a couple of times I went there awful and wound up in the garbage. The prices are absurdly high and the portions are small (at least for the fish and chips). The fish and chips were good, the coleslaw was good, but the amount of fries I got was pitiful and it cost SEVENTEEN DOLLARS. We have never eaten anything so vile as what we ate at Maya Cove. It's pretty hard to mess up a taco salad, but Maya Cove managed to mess it up big time: a big mess of greasy ground beef on top of a pile of lettuce and beans. And if that wasn't worse enough they somehow were able to make simple tacos into your worst nightmare. Upon ordering an order of over-priced chips and salsa we were welcomed to the crispiest and greasiest chilps my teeth have ever grazed. I literally felt as if I were chomping on two month old chips that were deep fried in lard. To make matters worse our margaritas which were frozen were not frozen at all. There was more water then tequila and the texture was not "frozen" pr blended at all. BIG let down. The saving grace from the taco was the cheese which was probably pre-packaged from Safeway. The meat was greasy, over-cooked and definitely covered in 99 cent Taco mix...also probably from Safeway. The service was painfully slow. The point is this is a waste of your time and your money. I had one of the WORST dining experiences of my life at Maya Cove. It took what felt like forever to get menus, for the server to take our drink orders, for our drinks to arrive, for the server to take our order, and for our food to arrive. From the time we walked into the door to the time we were served our food was at least an hour. There were maybe 5 other people in the restaurant at the time, and even though it seemed like our server was the only server on staff, I think he could have handled 5 tables. It was obvious the other people's orders were also taking forever and not getting what they ordered properly. Not only was the service notably poor (and I'm not one to nit-pick about servers, I've been one, and I know it can be a tough job) but the food and decor have nothing to redeem the terrible service. The restaurant seemed dirty and the decor was kitschy. The food was barely edible, and it takes a lot for this not picky eater to say that. I ordered the smoked chicken, the skin was totally charred, and it literally tasted like it had been used to wipe the residue off the inside of a dirty charcoal grill. I always see their smoker going outside, but it's clear that they do not know how to properly smoke food. I tried what my husband ordered, which I think was a burger, and it was ok, but nothing good enough to make either of us go back by any means. This is one of those restaurants Robert Irvine needs to have on his show "Restaurant Impossible". Other than a nearby Asian restaurant, this is the only sit-down place within a mile radius. I wish it was somewhere enjoyable to eat, but I guess we'll venture further to get a bite. read more

My wife and I went to this place today using a LivingSocial coupon. The food was alright, the service was actually great all the way up until we got our bill. We were literally sitting there waiting for our bill saying that we'd probably bring our grandparents in since they're into the "Jimmy Buffet theme". We got our bill and were prepared to tip well and we saw that 20% gratuity was added on already.. to a party of two. I asked the waitress about it and was told "there was nothing she could do about it". She made up some unbelievably stupid excuse that when she used a coupon in the system it automatically adds gratuity. What a ridiculous thing to say. We will never go back and we will advise our friends to never go there. Gratuity should never be added to a bill unless its a large party. If a business can't handle offering coupons, it shouldn't. And, if waitresses aren't getting tipped (The waitress told us the owner was tired of the waitresses being screwed, exact words) they are obviously not worthy of being tipped. Our waitress on this particular day would have been tipped more than the $7 added on to our 35 dollar bill, but I felt robbed after eating here. This experience literally ruined my day. Beyond adding gratuity to a bill of a party of two, adding 20% is just asinine. 10%, 15% at the most, but 20%... I will never go back and will actively discourage people from trying the place. 8 hours later, my blood still boils thinking about it. I can't believe this place can stay open! The food was so awful. I ordered salmon with veggies, and I swear they opened a frozen bag of vegetables, microwaved them, and threw them on the plate. My boyfriend ordered a hamburger and said it was the worst burger he ever had. How do you mess up a hamburger?
