My partner and I had an awesome experience dining here -- delicious food with great drinks and solid service! We went on a Wednesday for early dinner and it was already pretty busy, but we didn't have to wait to be seated and food came out quickly. I got a Shahs of Sunset cocktail which I really enjoyed as someone who prefers drinks on the sweeter and lighter side. My partner got the Baba Jafar, with ice that had the Maydoon logo carved into it which was a pleasant surprise. We got quite a few dishes to try out, but my favorite was the lamb shank. The meat was tender and the stew was extremely flavorful. I also enjoyed the Must Musir, as the pita tasted freshly made and the yogurt was tasty. Maydoon serves all my favorite Persian stews and I cannot help but order them all every time. I've had the pleasure of dining in (very stylish & welcoming staff) but we also have ordered several times as take out. Every thing was packaged well and securely. My greedy mouth just wishes there was bigger portions of my favorites. Fesenjoon is very unique and luscious tasting chicken stew in a thick walnut sauce complemented by tangy rich pomegranate. I can't think of another cuisine that makes something like this and it's amazing. Gormeh sabzi is a beef stew with kidney beans and preserved limes. It's rich and savory but balanced by the bright bitterness of the lime. Don't forget to order the kashkeh bodemjan if you love eggplant. It's a can't miss classic. My dining companions really enjoyed their Maydoon bowl with shredded lamb (pictured) and the lamb kabobs. My mother especially enjoyed her generously portioned braised lamb shank. Surprisingly my first time here. I've had it on my radar but never went mostly due to the craziness of parking in that area. Decided to give it a try during Dine Downtown since their menu looked yummy. Well parking was a hassle but the food proved to be worth the endless laps around the blocks. I went with 3 others and I was the only one to order the Dine Downtown menu. My selections were the salad, salmon and the spice cake. Everything was incredibly delicious and flavorful. My friends tried the kabobs (Koobedeh & chicken), Fessen Joon, and Gheymeh (vegetarian version). We also ordered the Persian ice cream to share in addition to my spice cake. I would have to say that the Fessenden Joon was my favorite. I wish I could keep a jar of that flavorful sauce in my refrigerator to pour on everything! I found this place by accident. They took over the old Nishiki restaurant and really created a beautiful space to dine inside out and outside. We dined outside and they made sure they had a space heater going for us. They used to own a restaurant out in rancho and have since sold that place. I highly recommend this place of you enjoy Persian food! The staff are flexible and accommodating (I changed my dish after ordering). Pros: staff are so friendly and attentive, they are constantly coming by to check how things are. The food...no words to describe how good and flavorful it is. I visited Maydoon during my trip to Sacramento, and it has become one of my favorite Persian restaurants to visit! Located on a bigger street, Maydoon does have limited parking, as it's primarily street parking. There were some paid lots nearby, but your best bet is street parking! When you walk in the restaurant, you'll notice how bright and spacious the restaurant is! It has both indoor seating, as well as bar top seating for those just walking in. We came in on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation, and we had to wait about 20 minutes because of how crowded it gets! I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan on coming on weekends! For the food, we shared the dip trio as an appetizer and the Maydoon bowl with ground beef kabob. The dip trio came with hummus, kashkeh bodemjan (eggplant dip), and khiar (yogurt and cucumber dip) with a side of pita bread. All of the dips were equally delicious! I loved how they featured various flavors, from the tanginess of the khiar and the simplicity of the hummus. The Maydoon bowl was one of the best ways I've eaten kabobs! Specifically, their green sauce was so delicious and did an amazing job of marrying all of the vegetables that topped the bed of rice! It also that extra flavor to the beef kabob as well! For the two of us, this was the perfect amount of food to share! The Maydoon bowl is quite large and the trio dip is a large portion for an appetizer! We came here when the city still had the COVID restrictions on dine in , so we were seated on their extended outdoor patio . Thankfully it was a nice night! Due to limited seating at most restaurants it's probably a good idea to make reservations during peak dining hours, which is what we did. We were seated right away and served water and menus . Since we were waiting on a couple of people before dinner , we ordered a few drinks and appetizers. I can't recall the names of drinks or apps, but the drinks were well made and appetizers delicious!! My favorite was a homemade egg and potato salad app and the eggplant hummus like dip , both of which was served with pita bread . Holy moly it was very tasty !! We cleaned the plates before the rest of our dinner party arrived !! Definitely order some apps , they are very good. For the main entree we ordered their kabob dinner plates . Very good . The meat was flavorful , the accompanying sides were also so tasty . Our dinner mates also loved every bite of their meal as well. For dessert we all ordered their homemade saffron rose pistachio ice cream . Do not pass on this . It's beyond delicious!! Seriously leave some room for ice cream and maybe even an order of their Persian tea . The inside decor is quite lovely as well. I was totally blown away with the bright, complex flavors and large portions. Bed of fluffy, perfectly cooked jasmine rice; tomato, cucumber, onion and herb salad (they took the bite out of the onion thankfully); and high quality chicken marinated in amazing flavor. The hummus was very large and quite good, I loved that they provided enough pita to actually enjoy it! I had enough for lunch the next day, so it was a great deal. Review is long overdue, the food here is delicious. Have tried the sample platter, koobedeh plates, fessen joon, gormeh sabzi, and many more! Overall, I'm a bit miffed by all the super positive reviews. I'm keeping at 3 instead of 2 because the ice cream was awesome. Instagram was advertising a meal special that included vodka sodas and hummus. Pickup was easy. Unfortunately, they forgot the extra dough we ordered to go with the hummus. We ended up using some pantry crackers, and the hummus was quite good. Our pita wraps, on the other hand, had full pieces of herbs and sprigs on top of it. So unappetizing and frankly a bit weird. Lazy? I assume they were supposed to be cut up. The meal also came with a huge main jar of watery yogurt. It made the pita even harder to eat. But the saffron, rose water, pistachio ice cream redeemed our experience. It's very rich but unlike any ice cream I've had before. A few years ago I stumbled upon a recipe for a dish I had never heard of from a Persian recipe website (Persian Mama). The recipe sounded so unique and different I had to give it a try. It required frying onions for over an hour, grinding walnuts to a paste, and finding pomegranate molasses from a nearby middle eastern grocer. The result was so incredible that Fesenjan became an annual staple in our home at the onset of fall. A family fave. Finding Maydoon - I was set to try their fesenjan and see if I had been making it correctly (never having tried it made by anyone but myself, I wasn't sure)... well Maydoon's Fesenjan tastes identical to mine and that means it's incredible!
