We decided to visit for breakfast on a Sunday morning, arriving 30 minutes before opening, expecting a long line or a crowd, but to our surprise, there was none. Reservations aren't needed, but they will only seat you once everyone in your party has arrived. This is traditional dim sum, but instead of carts moving from table to table, they provide trifold menus where you mark off what you'd like to order. The portion sizes were much larger than I'm used to, so we ended up with a lot of leftovers to take home. My favorite dish was the salt and pepper tofu--it was super crispy but not greasy at all. The restaurant isn't very big, but just enough seating on a Monday afternoon. We went here for dim sum brunch on a Sunday. This place exceeded expectations, but it comes at a cost! Parking is abundant. Definitely get here early, like when they open around 10 AM on the weekends, or you'll be waiting. Service was amazing. Totally unexpected, but greatly appreciated. We made requests for extra plastic forks and they were fulfilled immediately. Food also came out blazingly fast. There are no carts. You order off a paper menu and hand it to the wait staff. It's very easy. You can add items later and they came out quickly too. Very impressive! Kids are welcomed here and get a complimentary fruit-by-the-foot as dessert when they leave. Some of the wait staff speaks Cantonese. Food is delicious and authentic. Portion sizes are good too, except the egg tarts. Those were pretty tiny and they had a shortbread style crust, not the flaky laminated crust. Three pieces for $8.50. We had to order an extra one. Yikes! We got some classic dim sum dishes like har gow (shrimp dumplings $9.50), siu mai (shrimp pork dumplings $8.50), loh mai gai (sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf $9.50), loh bak goh (daikon cake $8.50) without the XO sauce, har cheung (shrimp rice noodle roll $10.75). We also got some non-traditional ones like siu long bao (Shanghai style dumplings $13.50) which were just okay, and gau choy gow (pan fried garlic chive dumplings with shrimp $9.50) which DH loved the most. We ordered a few items to-go, which took about 10-15 minutes. Yang Chow Fried Rice ($22) was very nice, lots of meaty toppings, not too greasy. Braised E-fu Noodles with Crab ($28) was a favorite of DH's and the kids. Sauteed Mushrooms with Asparagus ($28) was okay, flavor balance was a bit sweeter than expected, asparagus was a tad tough. Probably would get a different veggie next time. Braised Fish Fillet and Tofu ($28) was okay, but the fish was fried and the tofu was the fried variety too. Wasn't exactly what we expected. Still tasted good, but not our preference. Probably would try a different clay pot next time. Take-out portions are generous and come in large double boxes. The bag was so heavy I was a bit concerned it would break. We had everything wrapped up in exactly one hour. Setting is very nice, upscale ambience, cleaner than the usual Chinese restaurant. Tables are spaced far enough apart so you don't feel cramped. You don't have to dress up, but I can see people coming here for special occasions like birthdays. It is NOT cheap though!! We're light eaters and we figured with tax and tip, we're looking at ~$150 just for dim sum. It was over $100 for our 4 take-out boxes. Stumbled into here for lunch on a weekday. We had to put our names on a list. There was a wait time of about 15 minutes, but it felt like the time went by pretty quickly until we were seated. Ordering: You just write how many of what on the menu you want to order,then give it to your waiter/waitress and your food starts coming out! The orders look small but after so many you fill up pretty quickly! Everything ordered was pretty tasty. Staff here was very friendly and constantly checking our table to clear dishes, refill drinks, provide anything we needed. Ambiance of the restaurant felt upscale, but there were many other diners eating in casual clothes. We ordered Fujian style fried rice with assorted seafood that was the very last to be served.. not normally what we will order in a dim sum place so I can't blame them if it took forever to serve. In fairness, it was really good. I do not recommend the fried calamari, one of the worst ones I've had in any restaurant granted we should not have ordered it. All the rest, very tasty. Came in for a late dim sum lunch and the place was still full at 1pm on 6/19. We waited about 20 minutes and my party of 5 were seated upstairs. Their upstairs dining room is separate from the restaurant. You have to walk outside, go around the corner, and take the stairs or elevator to the second level of the commercial building. While the upstairs dining area is not huge, it is comfortable and the AC is usually on pretty high, so you may get cold if you run colder. After we were seated, they took our tea order and gave us a menu to select items from. Tea arrived but it took us a while to flag down someone with our order. They had 3 employees working this area but only one was entering the items ordered into the computer. The employee who took the marked menu from us took it and just left it on the counter for the employee entering orders without telling her. This caused a delay, as she did not appear aware of this menu and we had to get her attention and tell her about our menu on the counter. Some portions were decent, fish and cilantro rice noodle roll barely had any fish, and service was lacking. For $173 (before tip), I would much rather take my business elsewhere. read more

Lunch for two on a Thursday, right when they open up at 11am, $232 for both of us hungry girls. Usually we have a good experience but today fell short. We were celebrating and ordered a little bit of everything. Beef chow fun, scallop fried rice, har gaw, siu mai, scallop har gaw, gailan, and salt and pepper Dungeness crab. Warning: if you order crab, you should pick this directly from the tank yourself. They said the crab we ordered was 2.25lbs and to me, was very small. After much discussion, the cook came out and brought a raw 2.25lb crab and it was smaller than the crab on our table. We laughed and the server said: "the crab shell shrinks when cooked". Can you believe that? Manager came out and I explained we eat here all the time. We just want them to be honest on the crab weight at $28 per lb. The restaurant is super busy on the weekends so would recommend making reservations, if possible, and if not, coming early since there will likely be a wait. We ordered a ton of dim sum: har gow, siu mai, shrimp rice noodles, chicken feet, Xiao long bao, etc. All the dim sim was pretty good. The staff is attentive and polite with many "thank you" and "hellos". We ordered too much food for two people but I knew we would take it home for later. Har gow have plenty of whole shrimps and the skin is nice and thin. Beef noodle rolls are the best I have had so far. The noodle is very tender and the beef as well. Nice flavor and sauce. I love my braised chicken feet with black beans! These were cooked perfectly and literally fell off the cartilage. Could have used a little ginger but that's me. The ribs were okay. Not as tender as other places. I should have ordered a bowl of white rice to soak up the two sauces from the ribs and feet! Hubby really enjoyed the pineapple BBQ pork buns. He said there was plenty of tasty filling. And then the e fu mein noodles. Ok it's been years since I've had dim sum. My go-to place for YEARS was China Palace in Stockton. (Shameless plug - their dim sum is sooo yummy and they actually come around with the dim sum carts) Walking in, this place looked fancy. We got a number and waited for them to call us. For a Saturday, 11AM, party of 4, we waited about 20 minutes. I didn't know they also had an upstairs level. I heard when a group was called and they asked the staff if they had an elevator. Apparently they do which is nice to know if you have someone with you who is unable to climb stairs. No carts here, instead you complete the little paper with the items you want. Everything we ordered was delicious. The jasmine tea was nice to have because it was a chilly morning. I liked that the staff often came around checking our tea pot and refilling it. Restrooms: okay they're individual restrooms and they have about 4-5 doors. The handle doesn't turn so I assumed the doors were locked, hence ALL occupied. Yes I tried turning every single door. So I'm standing there waiting for someone to come out when I see a lady approach and just PUSH the handle and entered. I was like wth...so I tried it and yup, restroom was EMPTY. This is such a poor design choice for a handle, and a poor purchase for their restrooms. Maybe it was cheap that's why they got it or they were not installed properly b/c I've never seen a door handle like that for any restroom. We decided on getting the crab meat and baked maw fish soup, prawns with honey glazed walnuts, and the house special crispy noodles. The soup had just enough crab meat and maw fish in every spoonful and the flavor was really good! I usually go for the egg drop soup so I like how the flavors weren't too strong. The prawns were ok. I would probably skip it next time considering all the other items on the menu. I just happened to crave it this night. My favorite is always the crispy noodles.
